    Loaded burrito

Came to John's after reading a review on Mexican dining in the area so I gave it a go & am glad I did. Ordered a Carne Asada burrito & it was a biggie. Good but a bit chewy. Will return & order a chicken burrito next time. They also offer "mini burritos" which is a great idea if you want a smaller portion. This is a little restaurant with an attached convenience grocery store. It is located down the street from Fidel's & Tony's Jacal. I believe this was another Mexican restaurant years ago that we used to go to. You order at the counter and sit down & she brings the food to your table. No outside dining. About 8 tables in dining area. Red & green salsa offered.Friendly family run spot. Very low key.You can grab a drink next door @ the market. Slice of Mexico here! Tunes are Mexican & cheerful. I will be back

I tried the carne asada burrito, and holy moly was it good! It came with the usual carne asada, guacamole, cheese, pico de gallo, and sour cream on a flour tortilla. That first bite of carne asada was so flavorful, juicy and not dry, and the ratio of ingredients was just right. It was further enhanced by their delicious homemade salsas. I've tried a lot of carne asada burritos in my life and this one surprised me how much I enjoyed it!! I will definitely come back again for their carne asada burrito!

This place is a hidden gem! I came here on a Sunday morning, and this little market had a small line. The menu has a great selections of breakfast burritos and other items. The interior is very casual with a couple spots to sit down. It seemed best for grabbing a quick bite and taking orders to go. I ordered the carne asada breakfast burritos, which came out hot with green and red salsas. The carne asada breakfast burrito had a generous amount of meat, eggs, pico de gallo, sour cream, and guacamole inside. Each bite was a delight! Highly recommend for your next breakfast burrito craving!

Look at that beast. Huge burritos here.

This place, tucked just down the road from Fidel's/Tony's in Eden Gardens, consists of a small market in one room and a restaurant/taco shop in a connecting room. The market has a variety of mostly Latino goods, including drinks, meats, veggies, and fresh cheeses and freshly-made salsas. I was very tempted to buy a couple of the salsas but did not do so. I will get them the next time. The restaurant/taco shop portion has a few tables and a much better menu than you might expect. There are tacos, burritos, tortes, plates, sopes, and a few other options. My guess is that most people just get takeout. We came for the burritos, which are absolutely massive. One burrito is probably good for two meals, They also offer "mini" burritos which are only "mini" when compared to the regular sized ones. The mini burritos are probably about 75% as big as a normal-sized burrito at some other taco shop. We tried one mini (papas con chorizo) and it was a little mushy but just fine. I was hoping for a bit more flavor and spicy bite from the chorizo. The Ultimate Breakfast Burrito comes with eggs, bacon, potatoes, ham, and sausage, and it is a delicious beast. The California burrito is made with carne asada and fries, and it is a standard example of this type. The shrimp enchilada burrito was the clear winner. The chipotle cream sent this one over the top in terms of delicious flavor. There is no filler whatsoever in these burritos. The tortillas are fresh and they are packed with proteins and whatever other ingredients are described in the menu. The salsas they give you on the side (spicy or not are your choices) are clearly housemade, although the "spicy" one was not very spicy. The counter worker was very friendly. This is a no-frills taco shop and market. The portions are extremely generous. The quality is there. They also have their own parking lot, on the side, and in the back. As we were leaving, it looked like they were setting up a grill to serve freshly-grilled tacos out front. I'm a fan.

This is a hidden gem in Solana Beach! The most authentic mom and pop Mexican food there is. Our favorite are the mini burritos for breakfast. They are small but emphasis on the word "mini". It's the perfect size for when you're hungry, but not hungry enough for a huge burrito. And if you do want a full burrito, they have that as well! The menu consist of a lot of authentic Mexican dishes with some specials on the weekend such as pozole or menudo. Next door is a small market that has all your Mexican items that you may need if you plan on cooking a dish yourself. Staff is friendly and attentive and food is made to order. Check it out next time you're in Solana Beach.

    Chilequiles with green verde salsa

Absolute hidden gem. All the recipes are from the woman's grandmother, who started the market with her grandfather "John". You walk in, you can tell a family owns the place. It's so wholesome and small. I got the coffee and 2 "mini" burrito deal. Best chorizo burrito and best bean and cheese burrito I have ever had! Not kidding. The burritos were not mini either, they were basically a normal sized burrito. Amazing! All for 8 bucks. My girlfriend got the chilequiles, they were insane. She got the eggs on the side, so you'll see in the photo the eggs are on the side but if you can imagine. The eggs on top of there. Holy molè this was so good yall. A must try if you are traveling down the coast of Southern California or if you are in the solana beach area! Thank you guys!

    Nopales con huevos

Excellent breakfast choice! They have nopales con huevos! Loved it! Their salsas were fresh and tasty. Hubbie tried the breakfast sandwich and said it was delicious and filling. We'll definitely return next time we're in Solana Beach. If you're truly looking for a local place to support with great food, this is it. Service was excellent and there is a side door entrance to the small dining area. It's not fancy. If you like great tasting food and enjoy being with the neighborhood folk then come here.

What I like about the store is that they always seem to have clean aisles, clean floors, and all of the items are put together very well on the shelves. When we walked in, we needed to find sunscreen, and there was a cashier who was nice enough to offer to help us find it. She directed us to where it was. The prices for the sunscreen are super competitive and very reasonable. I also found that they have the deli section near the produce department (on the left of the store). My husband and I peruse some of the things to see if we were going to have anything before we went to the fair. He ended up getting a packaged sandwich. I only got the sunscreen. It's always a good experience when we come here and we appreciate that Gelson is a small grocer in San Diego.

Pros: - Parking jackpot - Tons of parking in Del Mar (rare and appreciated) - Beautiful location - Surrounded by other shops, makes errands fee a little bougie - Clean and spacious - Wide aisles, organized layout, and easy to get in and out - Fun fact - I can spend hours at a grocery store browsing through the aisles looking at new products. - Hot food and prepared meals - Chef's kiss - perfect spot for a quick lunch they never miss - Health food heaven - A health nut dream if your wallet can keep up! I was tempted to buy some yummy new products but hesitated due to the price point. But trust, it is well worth it. - Gourmet and hard-to-find items - Great for when you're feeling fancy or experimental - Local products - love supporting local vendors - Friendly staff - super welcoming and go the extra mile - Not too crowded even on a Saturday - that's always a plus! Cons: - Prices = emotional damage - You go in for snacks, come out reconsidering your life choices LOL - Regular items can cost more - Your basic groceries will definitely be pricier than standard markets - Upscale vibes = upscale bill - Go figure! Final thoughts: This place is perfect for browsing, treating yourself, or grabbing a solid ready-made meal. It's not your everyday budget grocery run especially in this economy so shop wisely. Great spot though when you just want to splurge and treat yo'self! Health is wealth they say!

We are regular customers at the Whole Foods pizza counter and order pizza for our family there…read moreoften, usually one or two whole pizzas at a time. Unfortunately, it is consistently a very slow experience, even when there are only a few customers ahead of us. Despite having a very large pizza oven capable of cooking multiple pizzas at once, pizzas are routinely cooked one at a time, which often results in 30+ minute wait times. Today's experience was especially disappointing. The store had run out of pizza boxes, so our pizza was placed into a cake box that was too small to fit it properly. The employee cut the pizza and stacked half the slices on top of the other half, causing the pizza to become messy and smashed together. She handled the slices directly with her hands instead of using a spatula, and several pepperoni pieces fell off in the process. In addition, the employee placed two different stickers on the box -- one appearing to indicate a single pizza and another appearing to indicate two pizzas -- which could have easily resulted in us being charged incorrectly. When I politely asked whether we could receive a discount because of the condition of the pizza and the inconvenience, I was initially told very rudely that there would be no discount and that the register would not help either. I was then asked, with obvious attitude, whether I wanted the pizza remade, which would "take another 10 minutes." I simply asked for the missing pepperoni pieces to be placed back on the pizza. The manager ultimately did provide a 50% discount, which we appreciated. However, even the manager acknowledged the pizza had been handled improperly and wanted to take a picture because she was surprised by how it had been packaged. Despite that, the response still felt dismissive, including being told the discount would only be done "this one time," as though the issue had not clearly been caused by the store's handling of the order. We understand mistakes happen, including running out of boxes, but customer service, food handling, and basic professionalism still matter -- especially for repeat customers who spend a significant amount there regularly.
