I've tried this taco shop a couple of times in the past but the last time I got a breakfast burrito there was a large piece of egg shell in it about the size of a nickel (along with some other smaller pieces of egg shell). Not sure how the chef could miss that but it ruined the whole burrito for me. It was not even a busy time of day. They need to be more careful with egg shells. read more

The place looked like a taco stand, clean but not elaborate. A fair amount of tables and chairs. Hot and mild salsa was available. The tacos came very quickly. I wanted beef with a crispy shell. Sorry Rudy's, but food poisoning after eating a shrimp burrito deserves 0 stars and an negative review. I should have trusted my gut and throw away the whole burrito in the trash when it didn't taste right. It had small shriveled-up shrimp, rice, cabbage and the white sauce. After a few bites i gave up on eating it, after 30 minutes i started feeling queasy and after one hour i was in the bathroom and spent a few hours there into the early morning. Disappointed. Gave this place a second try after my friend convinced me they got better. The first time I went I wasn't impressed. The second time I went, I was severely disappointed. My husband hadn't been here in 5 years, we ran the Solana Beach area and he really wanted to stop by as he remembers his being one of his favorite taco restaurants in San diego! We ordered a variety of street tacos including tongue and brain, which were two of his favorites. All of the tacos we had were amazing! This has been my go-to burrito spot in north county for years, and I am guilty of 'gatekeeping' it, but here you go, Yelp! Rudy's Taco Shop has been with me through the wins and losses in life - it's a great pick-me-up or treat-yourself type of food. This place is settled in between the 5 and the beach, so it's a good spot to pick up that glorious burrito for watching the sunset or just taking to the beach. Otherwise, they have a good amount of seating inside and outside. Although the parking lot can be tight during peak hours, there's also street parking. If you're in a rush, you can call ahead and/or order online for pick up. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu, but my favorite has always been the carne asada breakfast burrito. Quesadillas are another pick. The salsas are a nice complement so make sure not to skip the salsa bar! read more

Fun fact: I've never had a California Burrito after knowing about it my entire life until I visited Rudy's Taco Shop. My friend decided to take me here since I was determined to finally try one. I highly recommend calling in your order. When we phoned in our order and drove to pick up our food, we didn't have to wait since our order was already ready. You pay upfront and they'll either hand you the bag or point to which bag is yours. The parking lot for this taco shop is tiny. It gets especially crowded during prime lunch hours, but you can park on the street and take a short stroll to the restaurant. They have plenty of open seating, both indoors and outdoors. They have a great selection of beers on tap and other beverages and they even have paletas! I got to try: - California Burrito: $7.69 - Surf and Turf Burrito: $9.99 The carne asada in the California burrito was flavorful and tender. I barely noticed the fries because of how much meat they put in the burrito, which was a good thing. The Surf and Turf burrito was also just as filling. To my surprise, they had a good amount of carne asada and shrimp throughout the burrito. The guacamole in this burrito was fresh and delicious. A friend recommended this place for good burritos. I guess I should of ordered a burrito instead of a tostada. It really did not hit the spot. It was vegetarian so maybe that was my downfall. The chips and guacamole were ok and they did not have great hot sauce. The wifey did order the burrito and was happy and the young one had a tostada and was happy saying it was good. I think this place is probably better than a 3 so I would give it a try. I just read this to the wifey and she gave me side eye when I only gave it a 3 and I am a gringo. Super good Mexican food from a little tiny joint by Del Mar. You could eat in, there's a tiny dining patio and also some seats you could also take to go or get catering sized stuff. Portions are pretty good and everything is homemade. Flavor wise I think it's pretty spot on. You're looking at between $10-$12 a plate if you want a main plus slaw, rice and beans. Super nachos are good sized with a ton of meat and walk on them. Some of the chips give me a little soggy because the meat can be a little bit greasy but it's tasty. My husband and I and two kids were able to share it today for lunch so that's the portion we're talking about I have also gotten the California burrito which I love. It's basically at Cardenas on a burrito but they put french fries in it which is some thing that is kind of "native" to the area. Good sized and delicious. There's a lot of options in this city when it comes to Mexican food but this one is the top of my list of spots I like to go to when I'm in town read more

Met up with some friends here who frequent Rudy's Tacos and love it. Well, I'm glad they showed us this place because it was awesome. It's a small casual restaurant where you order at the cashier, and then they call your name when your food is ready. There is seating inside and outside. Not a lot of seating, but decent. Good customer service, and they cooked the food pretty fast. They have a TV inside and at the time everyone was watching a soccer game. We sat outside on the patio. There is a window leading to the outside where they give you your food. They also have a salsa bar inside. Now, onto the food. I ordered the Birria Tacos, and they were so good!
