Went to Johnson Pools this past week looking for a pump strainer. I have to say that I received THE most excellent customer service in a long time. I needed a new Pool Strainer and they had one in stock. Let me tell you, the price I was charged was almost $50.00 less than if I bought one from IN The Swim or Amazon. If I could leave a zero star I would. I have dealt with these people for over two years. They do everything they can to void your warranty / They also have their service people add parts to a repair that were not needed . The technician told me the part was not needed but installed it anyway . The heater ( under warranty ) functioned for 30 days before it failed ( Do not buy pentair Gas heaters) . I was told it failed because the ph of the water was too low . Well guess what the PH of water we drink is ? 6.5 -8.5 . Yet I'm told the one month of use the heater functioned was enough to "rot" out the heat exchanger. The water sample taken was 2 months after the heater failed and quit working. How can you determine what the PH of the water was when it quit working. They always try and make it my fault or my pool maintenance person's fault. My advice is do not use these people . They should be reported to the BBB for deceptive practices and illegitimate charges. I could go on but you get the point read more

I had a terrible experience having my fiberglass pool repaired by Johnson Pool. They didn't do the repair correctly and added extra charges. I spent a lot of money on a pool that probably won't make it through the season and Johnson Pools has made it clear that they couldn't care less. Do yourself a favor and find someone else to do your pool work. read more

it's always been my dream to have a pool, but it's turned into a nightmare so far. installation was delayed several weeks, no update from the business. had to call several times for any information on when it will be installed. workers left trash, and the pool leaking at connectors. they had to come back and fix it. used glue all over the pump and connectors. filled the pool up, only to find it couldn't keep chlorine. no help or instruction from the company. turned out to be a bad cell. didn't figure that one out until opening next season. now I can't get everything checked because it's all glued together, unless I break the seals and re-glue it. can't even get it open right for the season because now I need a new cell and to replace a ton of stuff they messed up read more

We initially had a pool contract with a different company. Unfortunately, our pool builder fell ill and could no longer continue. Craig from Johnson Pools was very helpful and was able to accommodate us in a timely manner. Our project manager Eddie was absolutely amazing! Eddie not only had knowledge about every step but also led the team very efficiently. He was willing to answer all our questions at any time of the project and was always available. One star is too high for this business! They ruined our pool so bad frogs infested it (video below) and refuse to do anything to fix it. The receptionist was rude to my husband when he asked why staff didn't show up even though we paid for the visit. Contrast to Terry Pool where we weren't even a client and they showed up first thing this morning to help. We set up an appointment with Craig to go over the site plans for our install. Twenty minutes past the appt time, I called Johnson Pools & Spas. The office got a hold of Craig and texted us back. Said our phone cut them off and to call them. Said Craig had come out and waited for 20 mins. Said we had a gate and he couldn't reach the front door. I asked if Craig was coming back out. "I don't know" was the answer, so we told them to forget about it. Our driveway splits to the east and west of our home. If Craig had parked on the west side, he would have seen our tv on. If he had parked on the east side, there is a door with a doorbell. If he had gotten out of his vehicle and said anything, our dogs would have alerted us that someone was out there. We had no other phone "issues" from any of the other pool companies. The way we see it, we got advance notice that this install would not go well. I used to be a long standing loyal customer with Johnson Pools (25 years). They are now in decline. I have had a few bad experiences as of late and recently, a terrible experience with support and follow-up customer service. I was sold a pump with a 6 month warranty and not informed of the warranty limit. Pump lasted less than a year. I would expect a quality company to only sell quality parts or at least provide loyal customers with a 1 year warranty at the least. It took effort to get get an agent to discuss the matter only to inform me they will do NOTHING, not even a discount. I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY EVER AGAIN. read more

They charge for services not-rendered and then act bullish and naive. They take exception when you call them out on their deceptive and incompetent practices. They indicate that they are a good company because they've served the Northern Alabama area for "over 41 years." I interpret that as, "they've gotten away with negligible service while over-charging for 41 years." I'm disgusted by the work ethic and do NOT recommend this company to anyone, for any reason. In business due to lack of provider competition, high density of pools in the area, and population disposable income. Knowledgable and friendly retail staff with a gorgeous showroom! They offer free water testing and then explain what your numbers mean, some of us need it broke down a little bit, and they understand that, then explain which chemicals to use in what order. I definitely recommend them for chemicals and water analysis! read more

I was so upset with my service that continued to be delayed over 3 weeks. When I expressed my concern to the owner Penny Johnson she was hateful, rude, told me I should understand that they are human and get behind. I didn't mind getting behind but I was never communicated with. She told me I was rude and I replied with ma'am I'm just trying to be patient but you do not communicate at which time she said "this is rediculous." No apology, no sincerity, just excuses and being hateful. I will never use them again. I hope others take note. read more

Johnson Pools is going downhill. They have always been expensive, but they used to have great people and great customer service. Now, they lost their best pool technicians and their customer service is not what it used to be. The weekly maintenance person is still good and very reliable. read more

Last weekend I broke the firebox in my Green Egg grill through careless handling. On Saturday (March 7, 2020) I called Johnson Pool to find a replacement. The person who answered the phone said they had one, and put the telephone down to verify it was still available. He returned to the phone, and said it was no longer there. He was preparing to order one, but then said their inventory records showed they had seven in stock. He put the phone down again to check with "Alex", but was never able to get Alex's attention. He said he'd call me back, and at this point I asked him what the cost of the Large Green Egg firebox was. He replied that the cost was $167.00. We ended the phone call at this point. A few minutes later I called Brooks & Collier to ask about their pricing and availability for the firebox. The lady who answered the phone said (with no hesitation) that they had the part in stock, and the price was FREE. She said the firebox was covered by Green Egg's lifetime warranty. I explained I had no receipt; she said I didn't need one. I asked if I needed to bring the broken firebox; she said I did not. I hopped in my car, drove to Brooks & Collier, and was back home with a repaired Green Egg grill in plenty of time for the planned cookout that night. If Green Egg is covering firebox replacements under a lifetime warranty, why is Johnson Pool and Spa charging $167.00? read more

We had them "clean" our pool for a while.... until we realized they weren't actually doing anything. They were supposed to come and vacuum our pool but didn't show up. I called the following day to ask why no one came and was told they did come. I had unlocked my gate and was home all day. I had taken pictures of the pool after they "came" and there is no way anyone could have even snuck passed me and cleaned it. I sent them to tracy at the shop. She then told me she would send them back out.... well a guy goes into my back yard throws shock in my pool then is gone before I had time to make it outside. He was supposed to clean the pool it didn't need more shock. I called them and told them I would pay for the chemicals but not the labor because I had proof they did not actually scrub or vacuum the pool. This was sept 2016. I didn't hear anything until about 3 weeks ago. I get a statement. I call. I am told that yes I could just pay for the chemicals. I do that. Then they proceed to continuously bill me. Not only do they tell me it is from service in April of 2017 they change it when I tell them I haven't had them service my pool since octoberish of last year. "Oh I mean't September". the lady tells me. Overall, They are great if you need to buy chemicals or maybe even need a part in the motor replaced. However, I would watch them like a hawk and keep ALL of your receipts if they do regular maintenance for you. Oh! And to boot Tracy just up and walked out sometime last year..... so we aren't even dealing with the same office staff! I'm just disappointed I thought they were a better company. read more

I can't say stay away from this place strongly enough. They are OK if you just need chemicals but if you require any sort of service seer very clear. It took them a year and a half to get us a pool cover. It took at least 4 fittings and them requiring more drilling of anchor points even though they took our old cover that fit perfectly to use as an example. They constantly blamed their vendor for their mistakes and lied to us to not take ownership of the problems. They will consistently not complete their pool opening and closing checklists. Totally unprofessional. I welcome any rebuttal from the management and I'll be happy to share the email chains. read more

I can't give negative stars or I sure would. I have been waiting since I believe Nov for a mystery part for a hot tub that the service tech said he had at the shop. He left and never came back, I called a couple weeks later and was told by the service manager that it was my job to have placed a service call when the tech left my house that day...did not realize I was now an employee of Johnson Pools! I guess since I didn't place a call that day the part he had got shipped out somewhere else and they now had to order another for me. A couple weeks later I take it upon myself to call the tech directly (since I'm now an honorary employee of Johnson's) and he informs me he will be at my house after lunch and will call me when he's 30 minutes out...great. At the same time I'm on the phone with him, I'm getting a voice mail from the service manager telling me the part didn't come in and it will be a couple more weeks...wth??? How can he be coming out to my house with no part???? My gut tells me the part was needed for a more important job and mine was reordered again and this time is....wait for it, ON BACK ORDER!!! My advice, there are other pool companies in this town, use anyone else read more

Do not use this company! They will try to make you pay outrageous bills for not doing any work on your pool. Avoid this company!!!

Checked on having a pump replaced. They quoted $500 for parts and labor. The same pump on line is $199 on amazon. That seems like way too much for labor, plus, I assume they could get the pump for less than retail .. and they also said since the existing pump, which I bought from them, was over one year old, it would not be under warranty. The on-line sale offers a 4 year warranty for $17. I don't mind paying more for local services ...but not that much more for less. read more
