One of the stranger bakeries I have ever been into, they really don't have much to purchase. When I walked in, they had two cinnamon rolls, and some dog treats. I asked about a pie and they said that all pies have to be ordered two days in advance. I'm not really sure why they have a storefront. Passing thru at lunch time and stopped in for a bite. Quite the selection of pastries and sweets. Everything looked amazing. I wanted one of everything it settled on a petite "love bug". Whoever does all of the cake decorations sure is an artist. Ordered the Greek salad with grilled chicken. Great presentation of the salad. Customer service was great. Standing, waiting for my cupcakes I was looking around the bakery. I noticed cobwebs in the corners and dirt everywhere. I think being a bakery they should take more pride in cleanliness. Also there are what appears to be rotting and dusty cakes as a display, I guess to show what kind of cakes they can do. We ordered a cake for my husband's 40th well over a month in advance and they failed to properly put it on their schedule for the correct day! This was the piece that would tie the theme of the party together. Rather than be professionals and ask where the party was (less than 8 miles away) and deliver it (starts 2 hours later, but we wouldn't have eaten the cake until 4 hours later) instead they offer cupcakes -a total disappointment and disaster for a milestone birthday!!! Who does that?!? A real owner would have gone above and beyond by having a crew start getting sheet cakes started and they stay there to get this cake done because they failed to have an appropriate system to confirm party orders at the beginning of each week. Instead, they ruin potential lifetime of clients since we had already been returning customers. We had come back twice for my daughter's graduation, our son's birthday, but they completely missed the mark for my husband's milestone and rather than do the right thing she hangs up the phone on me after offering unimpressive plain cupcakes and thinks that was the right action for this error. There are reasons this bakery gets mixed reviews, this is clearly one of them. We only returned because they offered GF options. We won't anymore. It's a shame because she could have done the right thing and instead chose the easy option, which is didn't leave a good taste in our guests mouths at all. No pun needed. read more

Ordered a cake for my nephew's bride to be's shower. Jennifer was so helpful! She's so nice! The cake was exactly what I wanted. Received so any compliments from the guests. I was pleasantly surprised at how moist the cake turned out, since it was naked. I also ordered cookies decorated as a bride's dress. They were so pretty and the flavor was delicious. Stopped for breakfast and ordered biscuits and gravy, toast, scrambled eggs, and coffee. Coffee was pretty good. Biscuits and gravy and eggs were pretty good. Thick slab of wheat toast made from bakery bread was good. Everything sort of needed salt, though. We also picked up a few peanut butter pupcakes to-go for the pooches. Nice little hometown place. I imagine their lunches are reasonably tasty. Note that the dine-in service, while very friendly and very accommodating, is not like a restaurant. They are still working the bakery and cooking/getting your food in the middle of everything else. Just keep that in mind so you have the right expectation when you eat here and you will enjoy your meal. The staff is hardworking and really nice. On another note, they have a great little selection of locally made aprons, totes, and hot mitts for sale. They would make cool gifts. read more

I ordered from them through Grubhub this morning for delivery. I ordered a grilled cheese panini combo w/ Dr. Pepper, a cream cheese brownie and a peanut butter treat shake. This was the first time I have ordered from them and frankly, I was disappointed. I did love that my order came with old school soda in a glass bottle. That was probably the best part. The panini was fine, nothing special. Just bread, cheese and bacon. Can't go wrong with bacon. The shake was good. I was however, under the impression that it was going to come with the slice of peanut butter pie . It even says on grubhub "treats and sauce on side." I only got the shake. No pie. So for being that I paid $6.25 for a plain pb milkshake. It wasn't that awesome. It was gritty and packed full of cost saving whipped cream. I've had better protein shakes. The cream cheese brownie though was the worst part. When I think of cream cheese brownie I think of a soft brownie with a cream cheese frosting. That's typically what you get. Even at big retail chains. This almost looked like they put a dab of cream cheese on and baked it. And OMG it was soo chocolatey. It was too much. I love both milk choc. and dark choc. brownies but this was straight up gross. I've made better at home. From a box mix. It was hard and a bit stale. Probably was made a few days ago. I hate to be brutal, but if you are a bakery, one of the classic staples along with cake slices and cupcakes is brownies. And this missed the mark completely. Bastrop is a small town and I was glad to see that we had a local family owned bakery, but I think I'd rather get my baked goods at heb when I don't feel like making them myself. My sister got married this past weekend. It was a very small family event and instead of a regular wedding cake she requested a German Chocolate Cake. I have to say that this cake probably went down as one of the best GCCs of all time! When I put it in the car I checked the icing and had a little taste. SO GOOD. When I cut it at the wedding, which we had a Salt Lick, so you know, everybody was completely stuffed, people said..."Oh, I can't eat all of that...I'm so full". They would push their cake plate away and minutes later pull it back to finish saying, "It's so good, I can't help it". I HIGHLY recommend this bakery. It also looked like they had some pretty awesome lunch items, as well...but I was on the road and couldn't stay to enjoy. I just might make a special trip next time. read more

My waistline wishes I never found this place...ohhhh but my soul and belly are in love!!!! Stumbled upon this place waiting for some paint to get mixed at Sherwin Williams. Immediately upon walking in I knew I was in trouble!!! The cakes, the pies, the cookies, the cupcakes, the tarts the cute little decorations hanging from the ceiling, I was in love!!! I was in Bastrop and needed a cup of coffee so I stopped in here. The coffee was good and fresh made when I ordered it. Delicious. The real treats were the cake pops I got as well. One looked like a cheeseburger, but it was all cake deliciousness on the inside. They even had dog treats in the shape of muffins. I think my dog greatly enjoyed this stop too. While I was originally just looking for coffee, my dog and I greatly enjoyed our treats from Johnson's. I would definitely stop here again. read more

Attended a children's birthday party here. It was a cute set up. The table was in the middle of the bakery. All of the kids were given their own set of 4 cupcakes to decorate. There was a large sheet cake already decorated with examples of what the kids would be doing. The woman in charge would show the kids as a group how to make something and then go to each one individually to assist. (We're talking 3 and 4 year-olds that need a little help still.) The cake(s) that I tried were beautiful to look at and delicious. The other baked goods on display looked tempting as well. The party was for 2 hours, but pretty much only took about an hour. The bread on our sandwiches was good, the vegetables fresh and our order was accurate but other than that I do not have much positive to say. We were never greeted, had to wait 25 mins for our food, one of the employees told me that she was refilling the teas but then never did....I had to ask for more tea when we checked out. The sandwiches were pretty small too, and in comparison to other sandwich combo meals elsewhere. My brownie was 0/5 stars (dry, seemed old) my husband's carrot cake was much better, maybe 4/5! I paid sixteen dollars for a pie for a funeral and when I cut it I realized the white stuff was neither whipped cream nor even Cool Whip, but some kind is flavorless, stiff concoction. I ordered cookies and a fondet train to go on a cake. I wanted them to similar colors blue and red to match. The first time I went to pick up the cookies were perfect! But the train was a very dull baby blue and dull red. It did not match the perfect vibrant colors of the cookies. So they had no problem fixing it and asked me to pick up just before closing. When I arrived back the train was now the right colors but was pointing in the wrong direction. I sent two photos to the owner of exactly how I wanted it both trains pointing to the left. The cake was already made at this point. The two young girls that were there were not at all helpful when I pointed out the mistake. Pretty much blaming each other and not offering me any kind of solution! I had to attempt to flip the train engine myself pulling all the pieces off and reattaching them. This was the worst fondant decoration. It literally looked like a 5 year old made it. I'm including a photo from in the car right after picking it up. Also after I put it on the cake the next day at the party the the colors began to run down and making the whole thing look horrible! The worst part is when had contacted the owner she was the least bit concerned and said she was sorry to see me go as a customer. She definitely doesn't care about losing customers. Also my best friend ordered a cake from them for her sons smashcake last year and clearly ordered blue for a boy. When she arrived it was purple. She went to H-E-B and they made her a way better one for way less and looked exactly like her photo. She won't even use the credit she was offered because they have lost her as a customer as well. My sister is getting married in March. We went for a cake tasting and everything was great. We ordered an elaborate 5 tiered wedding cake and a grooms cake. Since the cakes in the shop looked great, I ordered my daughters birthday cake and the bridal shower cake from them as well. This past weekend we picked up the birthday cake for my daughters Alice in Wonderland tea party. I gave them pictures of how the cake should look. The cake I received was awful. The fondant pieces looked like a child made them and were cracked and pieced back together. I have never been more disappointed in a cake. The cake topper was supposed to have a saucer, tea cup, spoon and Alice falling into the tea cup. That topper alone was priced at $40 and I only received half of it. When I messaged the bakery about the issues, the owner said a new decorator made the cake and she didn't get to see all of the cake before it was boxed but that the topper looked great. I sent her pictures and told her I wanted to come in to talk about the cake and get a refund. I told her this was the first cake we ordered from them and we were starting to get concerned about how the bridal shower and wedding cakes were going to turn out. Most professional bakeries would have said I'm so sorry this happened and I will make sure i personally take care of those cakes to make sure this doesn't happen again. Instead she said she was issuing a refund for all 4 cakes because they didn't want to further disappoint us. I find it hard to believe how issuing a refund of over $1300 in cakes is a good business solution to the problem. We were given the refunds and have found aNother wedding cake baker. I will not be using them in the future and do not recommend them to any of my friends or family. read more

The icing tasted generic and out of a bucket or something and it was hard, so much so that when I took my first bite of the cupcake the icing was sliding off as a whole. And the cake part of the cupcake was very dense and not very moist at all. I expected homemade icing from a mom and pop bakery. I usually go to Simply Sweet for my cupcakes but wanted to give you guys a try because of all the reviews I've seen of your cakes. I had never even been to Johnson's Bakery but found them on Restaurant.com and needed a cake for my husband's 50th birthday. I wanted something non-traditional and decided on a chocolate meringue pie and a plain cheesecake. The bakery took my order at the last minute (my fault, not theirs), and had both ready 24 hours later. They were ready when promised, and absolutely delicious. I ordered a cake for my baby shower. Had a picture of what I wanted with colors and shape. The women who took the order verified what I wanted and even showed me the pans they would use. I ordered it 6ish weeks early on purpose to ensure it would be perfect. On the day it was due to be picked up, it wasn't ready. Twice my mother went to pick it up and it still wasn't ready. Finally on the 3rd try it was ready. The cake cost $120 dollars. They knocked off $20 dollars because it was so late being done. When my mother saw the cake she realized it was all wrong!!! Even with verifying the size, color and picture on hand they ruined my cake!! It was the wrong shape, color and size. My while family was upset and furious that they had to pay for a cake that was all wrong. I suggest if you want a cake for a special occasion try Austin.
