Cute spot for country cookin'! We've passed Lucy's multiple times when in Elgin, and even got a slice of cake to-go, but never really ate here. This weekend we went out to Elgin for their music festival, and dinner beforehand. There were so many items on the menu I wanted to get, but I went with my gut and got the Club Sandwich. It was kind of small, but that's a good thing, because while I like clubs, they're usually too big for me. Everything else about it was just perfect. If you like bacon, you might be a little disappointed, because the bacon was scant. On the side I chose onion rings since the only options were those or two types of fries. I tried a few nibbles of those, but they were easy to leave behind. I wanted to save room for dessert! All the desserts looked good, and their meringue pies appeared to be most popular, but I chose the Italian Wedding Cake. It was soooooo much better than the carrot cake I tried a few months ago, but maybe I'm just overly picky about my carrot cakes. This cake was huge and moist, and a real treat! My husband's burger seemed fine. Not too much to tell about it. We're definitely going to have to be back! read more

Something has changed at Lucy's and not for the better. This has been a reliable, old-fashioned comfort food kind of restaurant but I think management has changed. Prices went up early this summer and that would not have been a problem except the quality of the food has gone down. They have different cooks in the kitchen but customers cannot tell when they come in who will be in charge that day and it can make a huge difference. I love the idea of mom and pop local establishments and want to support our locals restaurants as much as possible. One advantage of such places should be better than average quality of food and service. The familiar wait staff has suddenly changed. Instead of the regulars who knew customers by name and made you feel welcome, there are strangers who make no effort to change that status. One woman I will not name (but could) was moving so slowly at the cash register it seemed that something must really be wrong. I was waiting for a pre-paid to go order that had already taken over 40 minutes. A bag was on the counter but she was helping two other customers check out. After ten minutes she looked at me, shoved the bag in my direction and said, 'that's yours.' this could have been done at any time without inconvenience to the others. read more

The desserts themselves looked so overwhelming that I am probably coming back ... regardless of anything else I say in the review. * * * On the traditional Texas food - I had two all star incredible dishes - and two flunks that I did not finish. All Stars: Their Chicken and Dumplings (a weekly special). Served in massive quantity and better than any Chicken and Dumplings you have had elsewhere. Their Southern Green Beans. Served with industrial quantities of bacon and not quite as boiled to death as are traditional Southern Green Beans. Canned Green Beans have found their destiny. * * * Flunkos: The coffee. Undrinkable. Fried okra. Just not good. * * * Common Tendency: Just from my four dishes - it would appear that the more elaborate the dish, the better the final product. Both the chicken and dumplings and the green beans required substantial care and effort from the kitchen. Coffee and fried okra are toss-offs pretty much everywhere. So the survival guide here seems to be, Order the most elaborate dishes you can. That would put the pies way up on the priority list. Pies being high on the priority list is in harmony with all of nature. read more

Came in as it was the only thing in the area open. Service was friendly enough. Music was overly loud. Both of my children got corn dogs, however they were both burnt. My husband ordered pork tenderloin fajitas, he said the only thing he liked well enough on his plate was the rice. Pork and beans had no flavor. My mom ordered grilled shrimp, shrimp were good, broccoli rice casserole was inedible. I order Chicken Fried Steak, took two bites and sent it back. The chicken fried steak tasted like cardboard, cabbage was nasty and the macaroni/cheese was straight noodles. Will not be returning. read more

Had the chicken fried steak that filled the plate. Was quite tender and lighly breaded with broccoli/rice casserole and black eyed peas. If people that take your orders are very patient and very nice! The restaurant and the restrooms are clean which is a real treat! Located in Elgin, TX Historic District: Excellent BLT/Club Sandwich & The worst Ice Tea I have ever had. I had recently been thinking it was time to have a club sandwich, so, when I stopped at Lucy's during a motorcycle ride from Austin to Lexington,....and saw a club sandwich on the menu, I ordered it without hesitation. Truth be told, I didnt have high expectations for the club,....but I was totally blown away by this sandwich. Think triple decker BLT with ham on toast. It was truly delicious. That said,....the Ice Tea (Unsweetened), was,......well, not like any ice tea I have ever experienced. Think, Ice tea brewed with old coffee grounds left in the pot,.......I don't know what was in their tea brewing pot,....but whatever it was was not good. I mentioned it to the cashier after telling her the sandwich was excellent,.....she just responded,...that she didn't know anything about it as she drank sweetened ice tea. I just left it like that. On the way out, I looked at the deserts that were near the cashier,...cakes, pies and brownies were all said to be home made, and they all looked amazing (I did not try any). read more

As we drive from West Texas to Houston, we always try to find a new place to try. Yippee we have a new place to stop for meals. Hamburger steak, mashed potatoes and green beans. Ended the meal with coffee and dessert. And the service was wonderful. Jasmine was the best. Always checking on us, making sure everything was good. Extra napkins when needed.. and tea glasses full. Today is September 2, 2022 and my wife and I visited Lucy's. Unfortunately, that was all we did. My wife arrived at 10:45 AM and I was meeting her for breakfast. My wife asked for the breakfast menu and was told they stopped serving breakfast, she understood. I arrived at 10:55 and we ordered almost immediately. I ordered a burger and my wife a club sandwich. 30 minutes later, we still hadn't received our food and asked the waitress if I should order dinner? She did laugh and said she would go back and check. When she came back without food and no explanation, I told my wife it was time to leave and she agreed. As we were walking out the door, the waitress said they only had one cook in the back. That was an extremely lame excuse and not acceptable. I would leave a picture of the food however we never saw any. Not going back anytime soon. read more

Great local dive! We had the special, chicken and dumplings with 2 sides, black eyed peas and cabbage. It was all made on the spot, and so very good! They have good looking burgers, Mexican food, and hand battered onion rings. Most of the other tables ordered queso, so that must be good. Good little "hole in the wall" cafe. They can get pretty crowded at certain hours; lunch usually, and that does impact your wait time. But most people that come to eat at Lucy's aren't in a huge rush. They have a solid menu, with breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can't go wrong with the cheesy chicken. We Picked up three chicken fried steak dinners at Lucy's Monday evening. This is just plain good home cooking. The meat is not frozen, it's hand cut and breaded to order. All the vegetables are seasoned and made just like Grandma made them . And of course if you got room for pie, they're delicious and homemade. Stopped here on the way back home to Houston because my husband grew up coming to this spot. Initially I thought, what on earth are we doing here? Because it's really not an impressive place to look at by any means. But W-O-W! Food was absolutely amazing, especially the Spicy Skillet - SO flavorful! The first time we went to Lucy's for breakfast, we had called originally but the phone lines were busy. We were told they were short staffed so they were unable to answer all the calls coming in. It was a bummer too because by the time we drove over there they were no longer serving breakfast. We tried Lucy's a week later and the same thing their phone lines were busy. Luckily this time we knew when they ended breakfast (which is 11 am) and we're able to drive up there and order. The food was good and filling. We had the French toast plate, but I will mention that there was no powered sugar on it. Honestly, I didn't need it so I was okay with that. Plus, they also give you plenty of syrup and butter! We also purchased a slice of cheesecake which didn't disappoint. The filling was delicious. All in all, I would come back to Lucy's. read more

Food is good when it is hot. Parts of my food was hot and the other part was cold like it was just pulled out of the refrigerator. They didn't have anything else because they were 20-30 minutes from closing. I may try it again when I know they won't be closing. This is a small town diner. When I'm offering to take someone out from out of town, I describe it as the best dive in town. They have a wide variety of foods from sandwiches to enchiladas. The salsa is really good! I eat breakfast at Lucy's at least once a week. The staff gets worked hard for little tips so be nice and don't be that guy that leaves a dollar. read more

The chicken fried steak was okay, the mashed potatoes and mac&cheese (bland) , that wait time was definitely not worth it !!!!!!

Well so we've been limited to our out to eat locations due to the COVID19 pandemic just like a lot of people. We saw some reviews and decided to give Lucy's take out a try. Well so glad we did - delicious! My wife had the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans - daughter had the chicken tenders with mashed potatoes and salad and I had the cheesy chicken. All were delicious. No complaints. The cheesy chicken is just a bit on the spicy side as it has a topping of Queso. Can't wait to order from Lucy's again. read more
