I walked in a few weeks ago for a broken chain. Mr. Johnson is amazing. Great guy. This bike shop has a lot of history, they are trustworth and knowledgeable. I finally decided to replace the off-road tires on my mountain bike with road tires. I looked up the local shops and Johnson's seemed to be the best choice for me. I called them up to confirm they were open (because COVID) and he gave me a quote for starting price on a road tire. When I dropped off my bicycle, I asked them about more comfortable seat options because OUCH! Am I right? He showed me a few options and recommended a large, gel-filled seat, which sounded pretty good to me! They disposed of my VERY old tires and gave me the original seat that came with the bike. My bike was ready the next morning, and they also cleaned the chain for me and basically made sure it was ready to go. I was very happy with my experience and will keep Johnson's as my go-to for bicycle needs! read more

I walked in last week with a popped inner tube and they took my bike back and had it fixed within 45 minutes! I was impressed with their timely service and they also found out the source of the issue and fixed that as well! I was a little nervous to find out about how much it would cost me, but the total for "parts and labor" was less than $25, I was very pleased. I love this bike shop! When I moved to the neighborhood three years ago I decided to buy a bike for running around. I asked hubby where and he looked at me like I was crazy... Johnson's of course! Johnson's, a family owned business, has been there since he was a kid. So I picked out a no frills bike with tall handlebars and the brakes worked when you pedal backwards. So Old School, awesome! Well when I took it out for a ride I realized it had no speeds either. No problem I thought... better exercise. I don't know if you are familiar with the Wauwatosa neighborhood, it has tons of hills- small ones and really really big ones! So I called the owner and explained that I would like to return the bike and pick out something else, and he said of course. And he credited me the $80 towards a bike with speeds... 21 of them! LOL!!!! I just took my bike in for a flat tire and hubby's for a tune up. They fixed it immediately and helped put a new light on our bikes that we impulse bought. The Owner is such a nice guy!!!! They have a great selection of bikes and accessories and tools. I did buy a tire pump last year, excellent quality and it will be the last pump I will ever need! Check it this awesome neighborhood business. You will not be disappointed in their product, selection, or service! read more

This name has been in my household for years !!!! My Dad bought my bikes here since I was 3 ! All my bikes have come from their and I at 64, bought another bike there.Yep ! I bought a tryke ! 3 wheel bike ! It reminds meOf the bike I had when I was a kid many many years ago. It is easy to ride in to start and the seat is completely adjustable. The color is red which is my favorite color anyway but I love the bike I am so so happy with this purchase. Johnson's put it together and delivered it which was a bonus for me. I only have positive things to say about Johnsons. When they delivered it it was nice to talk about the old times when I was a kid and Johnson's used to be part of my childhood. It was fun to reminisce. I would recommend this bike to anybody. read more

As a more-avid-than-the-average-avid bicycle enthusiast, I needed to find a satisfactory local bike shop to help me with my addiction to bicycles and bike parts when I moved to Wauwatosa in 2007. Johnson's was right up the road and also stocked my go-to brand of mountain bikes: Specialized. So I ventured inside. Ever since, John and his team have been wonderfully supportive of my every bicycling whim. They've helped me get the most bang for my buck when I'm buying a stock bicycle, and they've helped me choose parts when I build one from the ground up. They've answered every technical question in between, and only laughed at me a little bit when I tried some hair-brained innovations of my own. I play with lots of bicycles in lots of different ways. Johnson's has given me the same service whether I was looking to buy a $300 bicycle or a $4,500 bicycle. They love bikes, too, and it shows. I send friends here with confidence, and all have found good deals. In short, Johnson's has become my go-to local bike shop, and rarely do I need to seek out an obscure part anywhere else. They're top notch, especially for a small, community bike shop! read more

While a few of the more recent reviews are not encouraging, i recently brought my bike here for an annual tuneup, after following the suggestion of Brian M. Overall, I'm very pleased with my bike. I tooker out for a spin on Sunday afternoon, and all seemed well. I wasn't blown away by the customer service. But along the same lines, I wasn't disappointing. John, the owner guy i assume, really didn't pay much attention to me. But the gentleman who did the work on my bike was really great. He went over everything with me, talked to me about some suggestions on how i can fix things if they break on a ride, and was great. I wish i would have gotten his name for future reference. I will bring my bike back here for future service and updates. At that point, i hope to bump it up to a 4 star establishment. read more

Great local family owned bike shop! I'm very fortunate to have in my neighborhood. "Specializing" in Specialized and Schwinn brands. There are also a few other random brands thrown in to fill out the entire range. Need a little bike for your little tike? Check. Need a new commuter? Check. Need a new top of the range Paramount? Check. Need any accessories for the bike you already have? Check. More importantly, as Mike P. found out, need a random part to keep your 1970's vintage hand me down clunker going? Check Mate. I didn't buy my new bike here, but all of my random parts and accessories since then has come from here. I have no problem paying a few dollars more to a local family owned business if it means I don't have to drive half way across town. Now that my warranty has expired on my Cannondale, I fully intend to bring it to Johnson's for all repairs and adjustments. If that goes well, I'll bump 'em that fifth star! read more

Super friendly staff, very helpful and knowledgeable. I had my bike repaired/tuned up; they told me exactly what had to be repaired or replaced and there were none of this ridculous extra charges that other regional bike shop charges for a bike over 10 years old, or the wrong make or model. We went back and they ordered another bike for my wife and were more than patient in explaining all the options, helped get it adjusted for her, etc. And their prices are right in line with all the competition. They really are a throw back to the old days of customer service and neighborhood friendliness. Maybe that's why they've been in business for 50 (or so) years!!!!! read more

Love Johnson's Cycle. This business has been around for a very long time. It is nice to have them so close in Wauwatosa. They are usually friendly and helpful. While working on projects they are not as friendly. They carry a lot of different bikes, new and used, and accessories. If they don't have what you need, they will order it for you. Prices are moderate. They will do a free estimate for service on your bike. Just a great place to learn about the sport of bicycling. read more

Since the time I was in about 7th grade and riding BMX bikes I started going to Johnson's. John is always very enthusiastic about bikes and being on the cutting edge of the latest trends. I'm now riding a Specialized road bike, and from the time I said I was interested in upgrading, John and his staff helped me make my decision on what model to get that much easier. The staff is usually good for at least one good one liner, and they can hold a conversation about any current event making this a friendly and fun bike shop to come to. For example, before John's father Pete passed away, he was as sharp as a tack when it came to sports. Infact, he could've taken GM Doug Melvin's job for the Brewers, and Pete NEVER watched the team play! Talk about a knack for the game! If you're looking to start biking and just need an entry level, want to convert you're dad's old road bike to a fixed gear, or you're looking to be some kinda crazy triathlete Iron Man, Johnson's can fit your needs. I read a review from a gentleman that said it took 3 weeks and cost him 100 bucks for a flat below? That guy has gotta be full of it. In my experience, flats are done for roughly 15 (including the tube), and finished for you by the next day. Sometimes they'll even do it for you ON THE SPOT depending on how busy they are. I love that this shop is in Tosa, such a great selections of bikes, gear, and it's really nice to have a repair shop as well. Dropped my bike off to get a tune up, new tire, and a cleaning. The service was friendly and the repairs were done in a week. I have nothing to compare the price to, but it was under $100 to get it all done and now my bike is ready for spring! Super nice people here at this bike shop. John really took time with me even though they were closing. They took time to show me how to do certain things for my bike and he even took the time to explain to me certain bike trails in the area. Paved versus gravel. Really informative in telling me which trails are best with my road bike and others are better with my old beater mountain bike. This is my new go to bike shop! read more

Johnson's Cycle and Fitness took care of me and my Felt road bike more than I could have ever expected. After noticing a small but dangerous crack in the frame of my bike, I called the manufacturer, went to the Felt dealership, as well as a bike shop down the street from where I live -- all with no luck. I tried Johnson's and John took care of it immediately. He was able to redeem the original warranty even though I had purchase the bike used. The service was extremely fast and I was riding again in less than 2 weeks. Emails were very responsive and the price when it was all said and done was practically nothing. I wasn't in the market of purchasing another bike, but I did take a look at what they had in the shop and all the prices seemed reasonable. There was a good combination of used and new-- and multiple brands. I couldn't recommend this shop enough. read more

My wife and I stopped in on a beautiful Friday afternoon to purchase a new bicycle. The two grumpy old men who worked here stared at us, as if we were inconveniencing them by just walking in. After about 10 minutes of browsing we decided it would be best to support a different, friendlier local bike shop. Looks like Cory the Bike Fixer gained two more devoted customers. A convenient and friendly store for Wauwatosans and West Siders on two wheels. The store is quite small, but they pack it in with a good selection of new and used bikes at prices far lower than a lot of other bike shops in the area. A fairly good selection of gear, as well -- I'm the type of bicylclist who doesn't go for the latest fancy doo-dads; Johnson's carries a good selection of the basics, and that's good enough for me. Friendly on site repair and mechanics staff, quick turnaround and reasonable prices on all kinds of repairs. Don't be fooled by the signage -- this is not a Schwinn-only shop. They carry many other makes. read more

I agree with Gretchen T. Not very friendly or customer-oriented. I rode over to inquire about a minor repair--broken spoke on the front bike tire--and found person unwilling to tell me approximately how long it would take to replace/fix (I have had this done many times, usually while I wait, at a place in Chicago which would charge $10 tops). The guy at Johnson's said it would cost $20 to fix and bike wouldn't be ready for two days. His monosyllabic replies conveyed no-can-do, so I left and won't be back. While dropping the bikes off, the clerk was somewhat rude and impersonal. He seemed annoyed that I was taking up his time, and said he would give me a call at the end of the week to discuss prices. I heard nothing for over three weeks, at which point I went to the shop and questioned the same clerk on the status of my bikes. He again seemed annoyed when I informed him that I dropped off two bikes over three weeks ago and had not heard anything about them. He scoffed that they were probably not ready yet if I had not heard anything, but he would check. Low and behold, my ticket was on the bottom of his pile. He offered no explanation why he did not contact me, and simply blurted out that I owed him $125 for work done. I was charged $50 for an inspection that resulted in a one bike just having the tires pumped up, and $75 for a new brake shoe pad and tire tube on the other bike. I was disappointed that I was not contacted about prices before work, as I would not have agreed to his extravagant costs. I will not do business with this store again. I would recommend anyone looking to have work done on a bicycle to go somewhere else. read more

Mixed results. I brought my husband's bike in for a tune-up and mentioned I needed it for the weekend. Unfortunately, if they did the "Visually inspect for cracks and wear" as part of the tune-up, they missed severe wear on the tire. When we got up north, the tire was flat and uninflatable. We were in a remote location, far from any bike shop, so my husband couldn't ride the bike. The good news is that when I brought it back to the shop, they apologized and replaced the tire for free. read more
