I've been here twice in the past week with my Trek road bike and both of my experiences have been great. Last week, I came out of UWM with my tire deflated. I walked to the store and it took maybe ~20 minutes for Tyler to replace the inner and check me out. It cost me ~$12 Yesterday, I brought my bike there because I couldn't shift my bigger gear back down after taking a spill over the weekend (damn trolley car tracks). I walked in and again, Tyler was there to help me out. He immediately was able to shift my gear. He then asked what happened and brought my bike in the back to ensure that the integrity of the frame wasn't compromised. He brought it back out within 5 minutes (max) and told me I was okay. He also realigned the stem of the shifter. He didn't charge me for this and was extremely polite and informative. I am extremely happy with the service I received here from Tyler. If I need any more service done on my bike, I will definitely be coming here before any other shop. read more

Don't recommend. Went in for service. Left my bike. I get a call the next day right before closing about repairing something I didn't ask for. Since I refused additional work because of time restraints. The shop refused to do anything. Go somewhere else. Also I asked for break pads to do the work myself the worker got on the computer and ignored me. read more

This company is a rip off. They charge the customer shipping both ways. If you return the item unused, they charge you to ship it back and then add on a 15% restocking fee. So, they're pretty much making money shipping to you. I would never do business ever again with them. I spent close to 30.00 to return an unused item. Not a solid business practice. read more

Where do I start. I dealt with Drew and no one on planet earth could have been more helpful. My son had a bad accident a month ago and finding parts is extremely hard to locate. Drew did not skip a beat when he offer multiple solutions and asked the right questions that lead me in the right direction. After sending Drew a few pictures we were able to determine that the least costly solution worked best for me and my Son. I live in Virginia and The Bikesmiths are in Milwaukee, but I tell you this. If ever the need arises; Drew and The Bikesmiths will be my first call. The response time fulfilling the order, shipping it, and keeping me informed was timely and impressive. Ordered pedals from Bikesmiths during the Corona. Not only were they amongst the lowest prices, I received the pedals in 2-3 business days.

This place needs to drug test its employees. I order two tires, two tubes, and two rim liners from their online store. A week later the shipment shows up with only the two tires but a packing slip saying all six items. A call to the store gets an apology and a promise to send out the rest of the order. Yet another week goes by and the second shipment shows up with the two rim liners and only one tube. Seriously? How high are these people? I understand mistakes happen, but twice on one order? read more

Ordered tire's from them & wasn't sent properly & so called manager turned into complete a**hole when I questioned them about it, he's ego gets in the way of common sense, buyer beware, he knows more about everything than you, will never spend a penny with this place again, but I did ordered tire's from someone that knows what they're talking about. Over the past 10 years I've had very mixed experiences with the folks at Bikesmith. I recently got a flat on my way home from work, and since they were the closest shop I stopped in to have them replace my tube. The young man working behind the counter was very nice, quoted me $5 for the tube and $10 for the labor, which I thought was fair. 15 minutes later I was on my way, but something was off. For starters I think while he changed the back tube, he didn't check the front to make sure it was equally inflated. For seconds, he didn't actually check the back tire itself, for I found myself with ANOTHER flat the next day. With the help of a different shop we found that it was in the same place, and found the metal shard in the tire. Needless to say, I'm pretty disappointed in the work that Bikesmiths did and their lack of attention to detail. Next time I get a flat on the East Side I'll walk my byke to a different shop. read more

Don't go here, Cory the Biker Fixer and Milwaukee Bicycle Co are infinitely better shops. When I first bought my bike, the owner said that if I could a u lock for my bike he would lower the price to $21, and then charged me $30 anyways so I had to come back for a refund. Their adjustment policy was made completely unclear to me. After I got my first (And apparently my last) adjustment, I took my bike back several weeks later to get my brakes adjusted. They held my bike for 6 days before they called me back and said they wouldn't do it because I had already got my 1 tuneup and the brakes were not the original ones the bike came with. I know for a fact that adjusting mechanical disc brakes only takes 20 minutes tops, and I was very surprised that they wouldn't even do that one last service for me because of the misunderstanding. Sorry guys, I'll take my business elsewhere, as should anyone reading this review. I'll let them have 2 stars because some of the dudes there seemed cool despite my grievances. read more

College students may find it good to know that this shop sometimes sells used bikes. If you're in the market for a used, reliable bike, that is a good brand, and would otherwise be looking for one on Craigslist (this was my situation when I was new to town), you may want to check The Bikesmiths. I bought a used Trek hybrid bike here two summers ago for about $160 and I've been completely pleased with it. When I've dropped by the store a couple of times with questions, I found the shop staff to be very friendly and honest, too. read more

I went here a while back because I needed new tires for a super old bike I had bought second-hand. The staff was super helpful and knowledgable about everything, and I asked if they could show me how to put the tire on, and they guy was super informative! They're definitely not the place looking to rip you off, prices are fair and they won't sell you anything you don't need. I would definitely recommend this place. read more

I've been to The Bikesmiths sooooooo many times! Helpful and courteous usually. But today I walked in during a global pandemic. As I entered I couldn't help but notice the sign on the door with the standard lingo about Thank you for social distancing, 6 feet, and all that stuff. Well, that's good, I thought. So I put on my mask and entered. Two other customers were in the shop, both wearing masks. I approached the rack of inner tubes, which looked picked through, to try to find a 26" x 1.5" Presto. A young man came around the counter and walked up to me, easily within 6 feet--probably more like 3--wearing no mask. He asked if he could help me find something since they were out of some tubes. I said, "not unless you put on a mask", while emphasizing with a hopeful tone that he might pull one out of his back pocket and put it on; like the mattress delivery people 2 days ago, who walked into my house maskless, but immediately and understandingly put theirs on when I suggested it. Instead, this young man at The Bikesmiths (20-something, probably) chuckled condescendingly, turned on his heels and walked away. He laughed at me. He had the audacity to be patronizing. What an ass. In a world negotiating multiple crises, how is it that some Americans laugh at caution in the face of a life-threatening disease? What an ass! Without a letter of apology from the owner, I will never walk into The Bikesmiths again. read more

I have been to this shop a few times over the span of my bike commuting years to purchase some things as I used to live near it. Each time I have been there I have experienced generally poor customer service. I have never had the same person take care of me there (high turnover?), but all of them have been condescending and rude. I've experienced sarcastic tone there and I've seen it used on others in the shop as well. Examples I've either seen, experienced, or been told about(non-exhaustive list): -"Well, I've never seen YOUR bike before; so I don't KNOW what you're asking." Mechanic to some random guy who brought his bike in for fixing. -"Prove that you didn't break this yourself!" The person then went on to prove the thing they bought at Bikesmiths was faulty; they did not break it. -After explaining a few times that they forgot their U-lock at home and just wanted to buy a cheap cable lock for emergency situations the worker was still questioning them. Any mechanic will probably know more about bikes than me or any other average Joe, and at Bikesmiths that seems to translate in to treating their customers like toddlers. In an industry where there is a large amount of direct communication with the consumer, this is probably not a good way to run a business. read more

Check their work before you leave the store: I've had the last three visits require either a second trip back to fix an issue (to their credit they fixed it with no charge ASAP), or me having to take my own time making adjustments on the stuff they had worked on. After the last time I was there the front derailleur wouldn't shift between sprockets and two links needed to be removed from the chain in order to shift through all gears. It was fairly pretty minor stuff (except the chain length), but I'm paying for this stuff to be done right. Always very polite each time I've visited their shop for work or to buy something for the bike, so no complaints there. read more

Ordered a pair of MKS GR-9 pedals on-line (love'em) Monday night after hours, and received them Thurs.,even though I live 2K plus miles away in a bitty town and paid for the cheapest shipping ($3+ 1st class USPS). They also tracked it for me, so I could follow them. As you can tell, I'm thrifty, which is why I ordered from them, but w/such great service to boot, I'll definitely shop there again! read more

The guys here are so knowledgeable and friendly that it makes for an awesome experience every time. Wow these guys know what they are talking about! they will fix your bike. Prices are reasonable. if you just need a small part or something fixed I have even seen them do it for free. These guys are the real deal. I recommend everyone within 30 minutes of this place goes nowhere else but here. I had the helper of a guy named Ryan and he took me in like I was his best friend and gave me the low down and how he was going to fix it. They all collaborate as a team in there and find a way to get you the best price and part on your bike. Oh and did I mention they are fast???!!! Trust me try it out! read more

Bike Smiths was one of the first bike shops I went to when I first moved to Milwaukee from Chicago. They were impersonal, vaguely rude, condescending, pricey, but what did I care I was used being treated like that in bike shops all around Chicago. Then I started to visit the other shops around town. They smiled, talked to me like a human, had reasonably priced parts and tools. I realized just how terrible that place was. Initially though I felt bad that I had judged them harshly from this contrast. I gave it two more shots. I purchased a fork. A stilted strained affair with little eye contact and then a year later a chain ring. I came in with the details of the part I needed... 3/32", 42 tooth, 110 BCD. I got home with the part slightly perturbed by the price of the chainring only to discover it was the wrong size. I realized this wasn't their fault it was my fault I should have known not to go there. I didn't bother returning the part, because if a regular transaction there gave me a bad taste in my mouth how were they going to make me feel over a return/exchange.
