Before visiting Dr. Tanner, I had not been to a dentist of any kind in about eight years due to physical and emotional trauma I experienced at the hands of my last dentist who also left me nearly bankrupt. After that I avoided dentists until recent tooth pain I could not resolve on my own forced me into searching for a new one. Luckily I found Dr. Tanner after doing some research into nearby holistic dentists. After reading online reviews and speaking with very helpful and friendly staff who assured me my specific needs and concerns would be catered to (i.e. not forcing unnecessary x-rays on me when I am electro-sensitive, and not exposing me to chemicals that trigger bad reactions due to my MCS/chemical sensitivities), and explained that Dr. Tanner did his best to first save teeth before heading down the root canal/crown/extraction road, I went ahead and made an appointment. And what I can say is I am so glad I did! Dr. Tanner and his staff made me feel totally at ease and comfortable and really took time to listen to my concerns and address these with patience and caring attention. Dr. Tanner has a great bedside manner and treats patients as fellow humans, whom he does his upmost to help. In my case he worked with me to come up with creative solutions to my problem without causing me any financial ruin or other trauma. I would definitely recommend Dr. Tanner, whether or not you are specifically looking for a holistic approach. But if you are then he's the one to see, and especially if other dentists have let you down and led you astray in the past. While I didn't directly see him interacting with kids, I could tell that he'd be really good with them, especially any who are usually afraid of dentist or doctor's offices (or adults who are afraid.. like me!). read more

I have a tooth abscess with jaw pain and had been uncomfortable with a previous dentist's analysis of options, bedside manner, and general demeanor. As the pain progressed, I called Dr. Tanner's office and was able to get a same-day appointment for a comprehensive exam (including xrays). I'm now scheduled for an extraction after a very friendly, compassionate interaction with every member of his staff. Dr. Tanner and his super sweet team made me feel so comfortable, even though I was really nervous. They were gentle and kind, and didn't rush anything with my teeth. They explained everything in a way I could understand and were just so nice the whole time. I hadn't been to a dentist in 8 years, but my wisdom teeth started coming in, so I knew it was time for a visit and a deep cleaning. I'm super scared of surgery because of some rough medical stuff in the past, so keeping my teeth was the best news ever. Dr. Tanner walked me through the CT scan to check out my teeth and where they're growing, and he told me they could stay--no need to yank them out, which was such a relief! Michelle was so sweet and careful with my cleaning--my gums are really sensitive, but I hardly felt a thing. She did as much as she could since we drove 3 hours to get there. I do not do dentist visits very well. Luckily I found Dr Tanner's office and have found the gentleness I needed. I do IV sedation due to high anxiety and Dr Tanner arranged it for me it was a very good experience. He and his staff are very caring and I couldn't be more pleased. Need a holistic dentist? Dr Tanner is seriously the only person I trust inside my mouth. All other dentists I've seen have recommended unnecessary procedures throughout the years, none of which I ever agreed to do. Dr Tanner is gentle, kind, and doesn't do it for the money. He truly has a desire to help people! And!! He's amazing with kids!! And!!! He encourages no numbing agents so you can actually feel what's going on and report to him during procedure. I just had an amalgam filling removed with no numbing agents and I can't believe I'm saying this but, it was AMAZING!! My face isn't all numb afterwards and I barely felt a thing. i have a child with MASSIVE dentist anxiety. dr tanner is hands down the most patient and compassionate dentist i have ever met. we were with him FOUR HOURS- as my kid was massively anxious. unfortunately she is sensitive to drugs so drugs or anesthesia is not an option for us. HE WAS SO PATIENT. i am amazed. i lost my patience (but found it again) but he never lost his. from the first minute to the last minute he was present, kind, compassionate, understanding. he told me he has had phobias before and he understood my daughter's fear. i am amazed a dentist like him even EXISTS. i jokingly told my friend he must be a bodhisattva and honestly think that might be close to if not the full truth. yes you have to wait sometimes- it's because he is being as present and understanding with everyone else as he is with you. when you have someone with full presence and compassion you are willing to wait for it. i cannot recommend this dentist enough. read more

I've visited him several times and I am always impressed that he not only takes the time to hear my concerns but LISTENS to them and makes recommendations that are best for me. I've never felt his approach was "cookie cutter" even though a couple other dentists in the area seem to be. I really appreciate that Dr. Tanner delves deeply into more holistic and natural approaches to dental care - so there is great synergy to my healing and health as a result.
