O-M-G! Absolutely fantastic experience at this dealer! Showed up in early April looking at options. Having already been to Toyota and Honda I was upfront that I was only looking and not ready to purchase anything yet. Both Toyota & Honda reps weren't as pleasant as they once were when I said I wasn't going to buy anything YET, though I had every intention of buying sometime over the next few months. When I stopped in this dealership I told the sales guy up front, I'm only looking and I am in no way ready to buy anything. Not only did he respect that decision he gave me A LOT of his time showing me the car I was interested in and all its features & functionality. I expected him to just be like, "There is the car, look and get out of here stop wasting my time!" But nope, the sales guy, Don, was super patient, kind and never pressured me to buy. He gave me pricing options, gave me ideas of what I'd be spending based on what I wanted but never ever pressured me in any way. I thanked him and said I'd be in touch in several months to buy. That was the end of that, Don never ever harassed me or pressured me to buy anything. Well sooner than expected I stopped in true to my word that I'd be back to buy from my sales guy. I went ahead and purchased the car I was looking at and the entire transaction was absolutely pleasant. My sales guy Don was amazing and his finance team was just as spectacular, but I guess finance always goes well when you have great credit; LOL! I know dealers get pooped on for service but the sales team at this location is superb. I can only hope and pray my service experiences are just as pleasant. The experience was no fuss, no hassle and all the success. Andy Carlson, the salesperson, was phenomenal. I told him what I wanted - a 2025 Impreza - and I sat in the show room model and then we took a nice, 3 mile test drive. I said, "SOLD!" The financing was NOT an issue for I was able to pay cash for the vehicle. No messy haggling, no angst. FWIW, the finance lady told me interest rates went up two percentage points between Monday March 31, 2025 and Tuesday April 1, 2025. Just a heads up to those who need to finance a new vehicle. My significant other and I were in the market to buy a certified pre-owned Subaru and a car at this location caught our eye. We got in touch with Colleen and scheduled an appointment to see the car that next Saturday. The dealership is a hike from where we live, well over an hour. While driving there, I got this feeling in my gut that we should call them to confirm our appointment. The first thing we asked was can we talk to Colleen we have an appointment this afternoon. The man on the phone said in a confused tone that Colleen was off that day. Who the hell schedules an appointment on a day they know they're off? But wait, it gets worse. We figured ok, this woman doesn't want to get paid, fine. Can we see the car with a different sales rep? The man on the phone told us that the car wasn't even at the dealership that day. It was at the detail shop. It's a good thing we called early into the trip. I couldn't imagine the conniption I would have had if I drove over an hour to a dealership where the woman I was supposed to meet flaked on me, and the car I wanted to see wasn't even there... I appreciated that the salesmen did not immediately start hounding me. It's a very low pressure environment. When I was ready, a salesman approached me and was able to answer all of my questions very thoroughly! He was so knowledgeable and made me feel comfortable and gladly answered every question, no matter how simple. When I walked out the door that evening, he gave me his cell phone number if I had any questions. I ended up texting him numerous times with additional questions and I appreciated that he was so responsive. I also went back on two more occasions, once with my husband and once with my daughter, to make sure that this was exactly the perfect card for me in my family. I went to Johnsons Subaru to have my car serviced, while I waited I walked over to look at the new subarus. I was greeted by Michael Nazzaro who was so friendly and personable. I was immediately comfortable talking to him. It surprised me! In the past, when I bought a car. I was greeted with fake salesmen with fake smiles who would give me the hard sell, which made me feel like all they cared about was selling cars and they couldn't care less about me as a person. I was just a number. I never felt like they were being honest with me. It would always ruin the car buying experience and leave me feeling like I was being taken advantage of and not valued as a person. I knew right then and there that my next car purchase was going to be at Johnsons Subaru. When it came time to purchase a car. I made an appointment to see Michael Nazzaro and let me tell you. This was the absolute best car buying experience from beginning to end. I am not a young woman and I have a lifetime of experience dealing with all types of people. They serviced my battery twice within 4 months $43 .... Sent an email but never got a response. Mentioned it to Sofia in service today and she deducted it from the Service Invoice. More troubling to me is the Oil Change I was charged for was not performed. I came home, opened the hood, oil filter was dusty and slightly rusty ( car is driven infrequently) . The oil was brown and I had to add a quart to bring it up to an acceptable level. This poor service could have resulted in a costly repair. I don't know too many people who check their oil 35 minutes after leaving Honestly I think the mechanic saw the existing Oil Change Sticker indicated the oil had another 1,000 miles left before the next oil change. I called Sofia, she apologized and asked me to bring the car back so they can change the oil and offered a free oil change in the future. I've been in the Service Area 3 times in the past year, not one person looked up at me to ask me if I needed assistance. They were busy looking down at their screens and cell phones or chatting about music preferences. I'm 6'-4" , I stand out like a sore thumb. Today, a very busy service person stopped in her tracks and asked me if she could help me, Sofia. I had already been ignored by two people sitting at their work stations. If you find the need to use Johnstons Service Department make sure you ask for her, she is responsive, texted me to update the status of my repairs ( front axle, air conditioning compressor $2,000. ) answers the phone. Immediately addressed the issues with the service department. Very patient When we dropped the car off she appeared to be training a coworker, that's a good sign. The car was washed and plastic sheeting was placed on the seat, we scheduled the use of a loaner car, no issues there. Air conditioning is ice cold, steering is much tighter. 12/20/2019 Still waiting... over 2 1/2 hours for an oil change and tire rotation. Got here at 2:30...it's now 4:50. I was hoping the new location with more service bays would fix this problem. After leaving the dealer I noticed the oil change reminder sticker was not on the window. My hood wasn't fully closed. My tires weren't rotated ( I know b/c one of my rims has a ding in it and it was on the right rear tire when I brought the car in. 12/21/2019 Checked my oil (which was supposed to be changed yesterday). Down almost a quart and the oil is dirty. Dealer also never topped off fluids. Called dealer to complain about dirty oil and no tire rotation. Was told sorry by the service manager and to reschedule my oil change, they'd take care of it. 12/27/2019 Checked my oil before leaving the dealer. Oil has been changed. Again, they did not rotate tires (specifically asked them to when I handed car off). Same rim with mark is still on the right rear tire. Fluids not topped off. Complained to service manager. Definitely NOT buying any more vehicles from Johnston's. Was looking at a new Toyota for towing a trailer. Still looking, but won't be going back to Johnston's. They're the closest Subaru & Toyota dealer. I will drive further to buy & have my cars serviced elsewhere. read more

I like my money and I work hard for my money. Tony, the sales manager, refused to take more than 1% off the MSRP for a new car. I asked for 2.4%. I do not feel that is unreasonable. The new location is great! Spacious, clean, and organized. I bought my car ~4 years ago and go to Subaru for maintenance (oil change, filter change, inspection, etc). They let me know what I need done soon, what can wait at a later time, and what I don't need. I don't feel taken advantage of like I used to feel when I had my Nissan. Everyone is very friendly and remember me so I don't feel like another face in the crowd. I had a recall once and they reached out to me to make an appointment to change the part. The free external car wash and access to the vacuums at the near by car wash with each service is a plus. Only downside is the wait time..it's a bit unrealistic. Was told an estimate of 1 1/2 hours, but waited just over 3 hours . It was unusual from previous visits. Possibly hiccups in the new location or staff..not sure. read more

I purchased a new 2020 Subaru Outback from a dealership on Long Island just before moving to the Rock Hill area in New York. The closest dealership to me now is Johnstons Subaru. This past weekend, my new car, with only 1,250 miles on it, would not start. I called Johnstons Subaru for service and this has been my experience to date... 7/24/20 4:30 pm: Called Johnston Subaru because my brand new 2020 Outback isn't starting. Gabby answered the phone and said the next appt. is 8/13/20. I said that is not acceptable - I have a brand new car that is one month old and is completely dead. She said she would transfer me to someone in service to see if they could take me right away. She transferred me back into the automated voice system. I reconnected with Gabby and she then transferred me to Maureen's extension. I got Maureen's voice mail and left a detailed message. As of 11:45 am 7/25/20 Maureen hasn't returned my call. 7/25/20 11:45 am: I called Johnston Subaru and got Brooks. He said that no one in the service department was picking up and that he would send an urgent message for someone to call me back. I told him that I expect a call back from someone within an hour. 7/25/20 12:45 pm: No call from Johnston's Subaru... 7/26/20 9:00 am: No call form Johnson's Subaru... I will update this review over the next week based on my experience with Johnston's. I am incredibly disappointed with my new Subaru and exceedingly disappointed with Johnston's Subaru's lack of responsiveness. Update - Monday 7/27/20 12:30: Still no return phone call from anyone at Johnston's Subaru. So I called them AGAIN. At this point, the service department closes at 5:00 pm, so I have now been fully 4 days without a car...just because no phone calls were returned. Julie agreed to have the car looked at tomorrow (Tuesday 7/28/20) if I have the car brought in via flatbed through roadside assistance...and no, they don't have any loaner cars. Tuesday 7/28/20: 9:00 am: Brought the car into Johnston's Subaru. Julie did not come out to greet us or to apologize for the terrible service to date. Cameron provided assistance getting us checked in and I had to find a ride home since there were no cars that Subaru could loan me while my brand new car was being looked at. 2:00 pm: Cameron called to say that my car was fixed and the problem was a bad cell in the battery. A new battery was installed and I can come pick up my car. I was unable to get a ride there before the service department closed. Wednesday 7/29/20: 10:00 am: Arrived at service department. Two representatives available, one helping a customer and one appeared to be doing paperwork. Neither representative acknowledged my husband and I standing there. I finally asked the rep (doing paperwork) if Cameron was in. He replied, "Yes, he's here today, he should be back soon.". That was it - no attempt to help us.... After standing there for 15 minutes, a woman named Maureen asked if we were being help, to which we replied "no". She said if you are just picking up [your car], I can help you. So she pulled our folder and completed the paperwork so that I could take my car. I asked if she was "Maureen" and she said she was. I told her that I had left a message on her voice mail 5 days ago and she never returned my call. Obviously - at this point - she needn't worry about returning that call. She replied "Obviously - well I'm glad your car got straightened out. We just got new phones". There was no attempt to apologize for not returning my call, nothing. There are pervasive indicators that the staff at Johnston's Subaru are in dire need of training to improve their skills to provide quality customer service. I understand that even a new car can have mechanical issues that need to be fixed. But to be without transportation, after I just spend $38,000+ for a brand new car - solely because the service department lacked the responsiveness to call me back - that is inexcusable!! Unfortunately Johnston's is the only show in town for Subaru repairs unless you are willing to travel 30-40 miles to the next closest alternatives. Let's hope Johnston's uses the information from this review to retool their service department and do a better job in the future. read more

CHRISTINE ROMAN, an employee of Johnstons Subaru, was completely unprofessional after trying to tell my wife that it would be 1000.00$ for new tires and I told my wife that we would shop around for tires. Then she tried to tell my wife that we have another set for 900.00$ I still said no. First of all my wife was there for a free oil change... yes the inspection was over due. Basically they told my wife if you don't pay what they want for their tires we wouldn't be able to get passed inspection. I got there and asked to speak to whoever did the inspection. That's when Christine Roman started to get mad and start yelling in front of my wife and 2 kids.. she was pushing me out the door as I was trying to get my kids and wife in our car. I was trying to get my wife to drive out of the garage and I was going to my truck which was in the parking lot... Christine Roman continued to follow me out into the parking lot and continued yelling. Finally got my family out of this horrible situation and we left. We went home and I called the supervisor, she eventually told me she was actually there when the inspection was getting done and would have been happy to show me the tires... I said that would have been great but I was getting yelled and pushed out the door. The supervisor eventually told me that the front tires were fine and it was just the back ones, but "it's policy" that if there is a problem with one tire you have to change all 4 tires. She also told me she had to send Christine Roman home because of the way she was acting. Just for the record I just drove through 3-4inches of snow a day or two ago before we had gotten to Subaru so I knew those tires were perfectly fine. Went to my mechanic, he said he would have never failed those tires and they were close but that I have at least another 5000 miles left on those tires. I have had big problems with Johnstons Subaru and Johnstons Toyota. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO EITHER ONE!!! read more

Then when we entered dealership we were greeted promptly and introduced to Greg our salesman. We took the car for a test drive and Greg answered all my questions not only about one be driven but our models I might be considering. Once back finance department was polite and finished up all the financing details. Pick up was was smooth. All the paperwork was ready. The car was detailed and had a full tank of gas. Nice surprise! I am so happy with my Forester, I know I won't own anything else. I might upgrade in the next year or so if they come out with a color I've been longing for since trading in my copper Legacy. If you want the best, ask for Michelle in sales. I am still thankful for everything she did for me, she had me in my Forester in less than 24 hours from start to finish. I exclusively use their service department. I prefer to deal with Maureen if she's there, I've had some not so great interactions with other service advisors at the desk but Maureen is exceptional. Recently purchased a pre owned outback. I worked with Dave Ammision and he was very friendly and professional. Didn't rush me and we test drove quite a few different cars so was very patient. When i forgot my old plates the night i picked up my car, he delivered them to my house the next day. I also worked with Michelle Hargood( i think that's how to spell it) and she was fantastic! Explained every detail of the financing and when i didn't really understand a few things, she went over until i felt comfortable. The only con to the entire process was that the car has a very small "ding" in the front fender that was supposed to be removed before i picked up the car. It was never done so now i have to go back which is not close for me. Michelle gave me a "we owe" statement so it will definitely be taken care of without charge. Brought my car in for service 2 weeks ago. Every time I call to check the status, I'm either told it hasn't been touched yet and to check back "in a few days" or they don't pick up. When I do get someone, they're quick to offer a rental (which hasn't materialized AT ALL) or they try to sell me a car. After this, I will not EVER deal with them and will tell everyone I know to stay away from there. I usually don't leave reviews put feel its warranted. I brought my car there for an Inspection and oil change. They said I had 3 bulbs that were out and would fail Inspection. I said just fail the car I'll change the bulbs myself Also they said my air filter and cabin filter needed to be changed. This was all a lie, I just changed the both of them 2 weeks before! Impossible. When I arrived their was only 1 bulb out. I asked how I could need the filters changed I just changed them? She said I don't know that's what the mechanic said. I asked about the 2 additional bulbs being out and said there was only one I thought you said 3 were out for which there wasn't a response? Great sales experience but absolutely terrible service experience. Want an oil change? You're waiting a month from the request Call service? You'll be transferred 2-3 times and end up getting a machine. Schedule online? When you arrive, you'll be told "The computer didn't give us enough time. It's going to be a longer wait" I don't like having to jump through hoops to obtain routine service on my car. I don't like poor customer service after you've obtained $30k of my money. Overall not a bad experience. Love my new car. I would go back because they were quick and I did not waste much of my time. However they will loose two stars for making the experience only typical, recently my wife purchased her new car at a Honda dealership where there was no haggling needed and a painless process. Honda is getting it right however their cars underwhelm me. This dealership still makes you go through a process of the haggle. This is not plesant. I ended up doing ok and I got a fair price but it was not the best deal I could have obtained. The problem for me was that the car I am buying is in high demand and I needed something new with AWD before winter (we moved north). I hate buying cars, do so about every four and a half to five years because I commute to work and end up with a high miles out of warranty car. The Good: - They are honest about what they have on the lot and do not have. - Process is quick, if you have the funds and credit you will get out of there fast with your car. - I managed to get within 96% of the actual trade-in value of my old car. Last time I purchased it was within 90%. You will never get a great deal on a trade in anywhere so this is sort of a sore spot with me at any car dealer. The Bad: - They don't have test drive models - If you want to order they discourage that, they focus you on lot inventory - Like the other Subaru dealers I have visited in the past the atmosphere was not really festive. Overall in around four and a half years or so I will likely be doing this again I think. I will certainly take a look at what they have in stock but also look at other Subaru dealers as well. I recently had an appointment at Johnston's to purchase a new Forester for myself. We have been customers of this Subaru for years, and have purchased more than 7 cars from them. Last year I purchased an Impreza and have had nothing but problems with this dealership since. There were interior scratches that were supposed to be fixed, but no one ever got back to us on a day to bring it in. We decided to give them another chance and trade our problem Impreza for a new Forster. We worked with Blake who seemed like he really wanted to help us out, and make things right, since we have been long time customers. He got us the deal we wanted, we loved the car. Then that's when the old bait and switch happens, while in the finance office we find out that instead of running all the prices on the down payment we discussed he ran it in 2 grand higher, which we definitely did not agree on. So we got back to his desk discuss some more, he goes to speak to the manager Tony. Tony comes over to tell us he can't do any better, he addresses my husband by name, looks right past me, ignoring me to speak to him. This is MY car, I'm purchasing it, I'm putting the money down and making the monthly Payments, ultimately I make the decision whether we do the deal or not. I found this to be so rude, it's 2020 women have careers and bring money into the household as well, And BUY there own cars! This is when I got up and left, I will not be returning and my family will not purchase from Johnston's again. Very disappointed. read more

Seriously the best car buying experience I've EVER had. I worked with John and AJ, great, genuine guys. No B.S. Straight shooters. The slick stereotypical car salesperson does not exist in this store. (However, it does existing in a couple of other Middletown dealerships...) Bought a Legacy for my hubby, great car, really pleasant buying experience. I would purchase another car from them in a heartbeat. Yes, I'm gushing. Had my 2016 Forester towed in with an engine knock, 4 weeks later still no progress in the fix and no phone calls with any updates from the Johnstons Subaru. If there was a way to give them 1/4 star I wood. Also they would only offer me a replacement car for one week, I had to have Subaru corp. to get involved to cover the rental car. Sad but true, Don't go there !!!! read more
