My wife broke down in the middle of the road in front of Johnstons today. She was disabled for about 30 minutes before a Good Samaritan helped move the vehicle to the side of the road in front of the dealership. I showed up and parked in front as I attempted to diagnose the issue to hopefully get the car started to at least get to a parking lot. Ironically, staff from surrounding businesses came over to offer assistance. The car place, nope. I watched as employees came outside to take their breaks, walk the lot and not once did someone stop and ask if we were okay. They did look. I sent my wife off as I waited for the tow. I was able to get the car started and as I let it run, I went to ask an employee if I was able to park in the lot for safety. He ignored me and walked away, looking over his shoulder to see where I was. I sat for an hour before the tow driver arrived. He even laughed that the dealership had a great opportunity to go for the assist and sell a new car. Nope. I wasn't thrilled the last time I visited them to entertain vehicles. I definitely will not consider them moving forward. It's not up to the business to assist a disable vehicle that's not one of their lot, it's not their job. However when the vehicle is right in front of your showroom, human decency would say to check on them. Especially when you have mechanics that might be able to diagnose, assist and make a few dollars in the process. read more

They are using switch and bait they estimate your payment on their website and switch when your in the showroom their website said I can purchase a 2023 Camry for 23,985 267.00 per month 4.49 apr 72 months with 10,000 down the interest rate went to over 7 percent I showed the sales person the website quote so they lowered the interest rate but then messed up my trade in, on their website they offered me 1200-1800 for my trade through KBB which is what they use to aprassise vehicles but when the appraised my vehicle at the dealer they used carfax appraisal and showed me the carfax appraisal for 800 dollars my estimated payments went from 220 to mover 300 per month. please beware check you numbers shady dealer. read more

From a neighbor's experience seems like these people are in the business of trying to take advantage of senior citizens. a customer went to get an oil change and inspection. according to them the car did not pass inspection and found almost 3,000 dollars worth of repairs on a 30,000 mile vehicle.when she tried to take the car back to maybe take it to a different place they refused to give her back the car took off the inspection sticker so she couldn't drive it out and tried to sell her a new car. They were not very nice but they did give her a loaner when time came to pick up her car she presented a personal check and they wouldn't accept it. they were very rude in reminding her that it was written somewhere on the repair contract. now this person is on a very fixed income and the thought of those people taking advantage of senior citizens is shameful. I'm not sure where the disconnect was here in this situation. I received a recall notice on the Toyota app. I called Johnston's Toyota and spoke with an actual person on the other end of the phone who made an appointment for me to come to have the recall remedied. I arrived 15 minutes early on the appointed date only to be told that the remedy has not been received by Toyota yet and that I should keep my eye on the Toyota app for notification of when the remedy is received. I think this was unprofessional for me to have such a futile appointment in the first place. We purchased a certified used RAV4 at this dealer way back and have had the maintenance done there since then. I was aware of that service and repairs could likely be done for lower cost at smaller car shops, but was prepared to pay more for going to an "official" Toyota service centre, use of OEM parts, convenience etc. (although the maintenance/repair bills started to seem too expensive with time). After a recent repair where the shocks were replaced, where I 100% felt that something had not been addressed properly and the problem was still there, I went back to have the car checked again. To their credit, a manager test-drove the car and even raised it up but could not find any issue, which I found strange since the car was obviously more wobbly and was still dipping when driving. Losing trust in them, I brought the car to a car mechanic recommended by a friend. After lifting up the car, he informed me that the Toyota service centre had not only not used Toyota OEM shocks but the cheapest possible, Chinese-made shocks. One of them was already leaking. Furthermore, in the front, two different shocks had been used. They did not tell me that they were going to replace the existing OEM shocks with lower cost shocks. I even had one pair of shocks that had no issue but were just older, which I agreed to replace with the thinking of getting new OEM shocks after a number of years. The other mechanic, being an honest guy, further noted that he could have done the same work--while using good shocks--for less than half of what this service center charged. Based on this, they have fully lost my trust and I will never go back there (neither for maintenance nor for buying a new Toyota). Don't get me wrong, the people who work there are OK. I guess it is related to the business model where enough profit have to be made when running a larger service centre (more overheads) and with less income from car sales in recent years, leading to cutting corners, and part greed from owners to earn as much as possible rather than a business with more integrity. I don't think this problem is exclusive to Toyota service centres. But that they did not even used OEM parts when charging so much money for the repair felt like a complete ripoff. This review is a year or two late. But I have had nothing but good experiences with Johnston's Toyota. Brian Ruperti was a pleasure to work with, I recommend doing business with him. I told him what car I wanted, and he found one for me quick. He contacted me frequently updating me on the cars arrival, etc. He was very informative, knew the car's specs inside out. Dealer gave me a solid trade in value too. Service department is great too, they're easy to get in touch with, respectful, and they do quality work. I took my wife's Toyota Venza there for the last recall, I think it was about the airbag issue, when it came back the audio stopped working, I mentioned it to the clerk and he said that the supervisor told him that I brought the vehicle in that way, meantime, I drove to the dealership for an hour while listening to the radio and took it off when I reached their yard. The seriously rude clerk at the counter also told me that I would have to replace the amplifier and that would cost around $500.00. Since I don't have video evidence of me listening to the radio it was useless arguing with him. I haven't had use of the audio system since. Just so you know, if you are taking your vehicle in there for anything, make sure you have a video of everything connected to that part. read more

What a crap show! It's clear not all car dealerships are created equal and the fact this place gets shit on in reviews is no exception which they clearly don't care since they likely make enough in sales only because of the brand they sell which practically sells itself. Toyota makes one of the most reliable vehicles on the market but this place should have it's franchise license revoked. I wish car companies had a set standard of service each franchise owner had to follow because as I mentioned not all locations are created equal. I've only come to this place for oil changes and very minor repairs without issue for the most part. I've come to expect the multipoint inspection known at (other) Toyota dealers and expect someone to come out with a laundry list of items they think you need. While that can get annoying I've come to appreciate the fact that someone even looked over my vehicle to catch anything that might actually warrant a repair. In one instance I didn't know my rotors were visibly chipped and should have been replaced but this Toyota dealer didn't catch that, another location did. While I can't blame this place for that recent brake/rotor repair it would have been helpful if this place caught it, I would have even given them my money to fix it. Thankfully my SUV didn't fail me barreling down the highway at 120Mph! Not only do they not do the infamous multipoint inspection I've gotten from other Toyota dealers they made me wait a whopping FOUR hours for a simple oil change. It wasn't until I went to the bathroom and noticed my SUV parked outside the door completed that I asked, "WTF is my vehicle ready? Can I get it so I can go?" Apparently my "paper work" needed to be completed and 30 mins later I was on my way but damn 30 mins to finalize my bill? Da f@ck! This place is crap and I'll never return to it ever again. I'd soon give my money to Jiffy Lube cause the risks there outweigh the benefits of sitting at this dealer for hours to get an oil change Jiffy Lube can do in 15-20 mins. read more

Truck came with a deformed steering wheel which they are refusing to fix even though the truck is less than a month old and is completely warrantied. When pressed as to why they won't honor the warranty and help out a paying customer I was essentially told "Tough luck, we already have your money and we're not going to help you". If I had noticed the deformity before hand and refused to buy the truck, I'm sure they would have happily fixed the issue. Passenger side window was also not working at time of pickup and I had to bring it in to be repaired. They obviously don't inspect the vehicles they sell all that well. When I went on to purchase the vehicle the price that I was given was $3000 more than what was previously discussed when I put a down payment down. I'm huge on giving reviews for businesses in the area I live in. Not sure what all the hate is about ? Maybe we need to have time with the car to see what everyone else is complaining about ? I will say Brian is a great salesman. If you're ever going to buy a car no matter if it is new, certified preowned, leased etc. ASK for Brian if you can ! The way he made everything so crystal clear and making the process of getting my aunt out of her old baby that she's had for over 10 years was a great transition. I liked the way he did business so well that he made me want to switch over from my Honda to getting a Toyota lol. Very very Great person ! The place is cool calm and collective and never forget if your going to get a car the best time of the year is at the end of the year or beginning of a new year! They tried blaming a baby for these scratches.. hes 29lbs.. need I say more? Yes, yes I will also we brought the car back to they can finish what was owed and returned it with a deep gash on the back bumber. The reason why we came in the first place was for them to touch up a simple few paint issues on the side and hood of the car. Where does the bumper get scratched in all that? I was told my cabin filter was "excessively dirty" however little did they know I changed it 2 weeks prior to dropping my car off so they obviously never even looked it. Even worse I dropped my wife's van off for routine service and a tire rotation (tps light was on as well), they quoted her $400 for 2 new sensors, I later found out that the light was doing its job and that she had been driving around on a flat tire and never knew because she has runflats. Worst experience EVER! That said.... I've had unpleasant experiences with this dealership in the past but I've never had them push repairs on me that were unnecessary. I brought my vehicle in for an oil change & to diagnose the master warning light (which I actually thought was a TPMS light- whoops). I was told that I needed 4 new tires & new front brakes & rotors. I declined all of that because I've been having constant type issues for the last 2 years & all of my tires are insured with Mavis. I also had new brakes & rotors since last spring & if I was truly in need of brakes there was surely a larger issue that Toyota didn't identify... I digitally approved services in the amount of 186.36 but when I arrived to collect my vehicle I was presented with an invoice over $250... I refused to pay that amount. That wasn't what I agreed to. I had it in writing. After another 15 minute wait- I received an updated invoice for the agreed amount. I immediately drove to Mavis to discuss my tires & have them look at my brakes. I had already inspected my toes & felt that I NEEDED 1tire... but 2 were questionable. Mavis agreed. Upon inspection of my brakes though... I was told that I have 50% left & a brake job was completely unnecessary. MAVIS was aware that Toyota recommended these repairs. They could so easily have cashed in on my ignorance. But they didn't. Went to this dealership to inquire about a duplicate key for my 2019 Tacoma. The employee at the parts counter was courteous. Unfortunately, he quoted the price of a key at $160.00 without labor. I asked, what labor? He informed me I would have to make an appointment with the service department to bring the truck in to have a mechanic program the key at a service rate of $130.00. Add tax and you're looking at a bill over $300.00 for a key. The employees at Toyota should be wearing eyepatches and a flag with skull and crossbones should be flying prominently in front of this dealership. read more

When I walked in there were three people behind the desk, two looked busy and the third looked up from his cell phone and said "Hi" and then returned to his cell phone. Assuming he was on the cell phone busy with Toyota work I proceeded to walk into the showroom. It is massive. I witness three sales people at their desks humped over on their cell phones. I am eighty yrs old and get tired easily. No one came and welcomed me and said "How can I help you?". Very unfriendly. It seems wherever we go no a days nobody wants to work. Paid for routine 5,000 mile-interval oil change, but this service was never performed, even though an update reminder sticker was affixed to inside of windshield for the next oil change. Unaware of this mistake, Johnston's Toyota telephoned me two days later to inform me and I had to bring car back again to get the oil changed. Another such stupid mistake was made earlier in year by this dealer when they took three days to recharge A/C coolant - - a typically simple job. Home of the 2.5 hour oil change, grainy diagnostic videos, and shady, deceptive, and unethical business practices. DO NOT do business with this dealership. I've never left a bad review in my life, but my experience with this establishment warrants it. I was sold a three year old "certified pre-owned" vehicle with ~20,000 miles on it. Did not receive a CarFax with the vehicle, as assured with the Toyota CPO criteria listed on Toyota USA's website. Within 15 months the vehicle developed a fairly severe rust problem, come to find out it had been in 3 accidents before it was sold? The fellas at the body shop were horrified by the shoddy, cheap repairs and pointed out multiple problem areas. Of course, the paint isn't covered under the extended warranty that I paid a not insignificant amount for. How is a vehicle that has been wrecked multiple times eligible for Certified Pre-Owned status? Who is enforcing brand standards? At this juncture, the vehicle requires extensive paint and body work. It has more rust than my 20 year old truck, despite my best efforts and frequent hand washes, even in the dead of winter. Covid-era used car shortages are no excuse for gratuitously taking advantage of people...I never expected a family-owned Toyota dealership, the only one within an hour and a half of me, to conduct business no differently from a buy-here-pay-here used lot rife with auction castoffs and sleazy salesmen. This same vehicle has also developed any number of intolerable rattles and a transmission shudder when downshifting. Don't tell the service department, though; they'll just respond that they can't replicate the issue. Not to mention, the last time I brought this vehicle in for service, when it was returned, my dash cam was unplugged. Why? What are they hiding? They could've just turned it off and I'd have been none the wiser...but these are the sort of people you're working with here. All they're interested in is your money, and they're besmirching Toyota's good name in the process. I have initiated a buyback claim with Toyota corporate, and may enlist the help of friends in the automotive journalism industry as well. But heed my warning...do your due diligence if you buy here, and if you can, go elsewhere!!! read more

They want to charge $140 for diagnostics to do warranty work- nothing on my Toyota extended warranty indicates this. Johnstons is unwilling to diagnose and honor the Toyota extended warranty Which I bought at their dealer. wasted money and empty promises-steer clear for sure. Going to get your car fixed or serviced is like popping a pimple on your face; you don't wanna do it but you have to do it anyways. (Wait, are you supposed to pop those pimples?) Anyways, going to Johnston's Toyota for service has always been a great experience. 1) you make an appointment and drive up to the bay where they take your car. 2) you go the service guy and you discuss the plans for your car. 3) and this is where it starts to become amazing. You can either drive away with a loaner car that they will lend you for free if there's availability, OR you can stay at their Clean and spacious waiting area. 4) if you end up in the waiting area, you can avail yourself to free coffee and hot chocolate. They have ample seating, not crowded, a play area for little ones, a flat screen TV, 3 workstations for you to catch up on Yelp or FB.. Or you can log in to their free wiFi from the device of your choice. 5). If you decide you wanted to stretch your legs instead, you can walk across the Parking lot and look at the new Toyota cars too. Overall, it is a good experience before you can echo your children's wonderful motto: I'm bored! read more

This place is a scam. When confronted, they stutter and attempt to explain that they give your car some "special warranty" and other nonsense. Don't believe a word they say. It's all bull. Went for a test drive on a Tundra and when the "salesman" found out I wasn't buying that day he sat on his phone texting, playing games doing something except trying to change my mind about my timeframe regarding the truck. Service Department Issues!! I dropped my Prius off for an oil change and tire rotation. When I picked up my car and drove home the steering wheel was pulling hard to the right and vibrating a lot. When I got home I called and was told to bring it back. Apparently, the tech didn't do a thorough check of my car when they rotated the tires and never saw the issue. Jen from service said I needed new tires and quoted me a price. When I got the car back they added an additional $300 she failed to mention. When I called back she never returned my call. They inconvenienced me, were sloppy with the work, treated me like an idiot and overcharged. I'm NEVER going back again!! read more

The wait can sometimes be a bit long, but they generally do a nice job and I really appreciate that they don't try to do the hard sell on things I don't need - I can actually have a real and honest conversation on service needs, what needs to be done immediately, what can wait. First I will start out that I usually get a survey via email or text after my appointment. This time I did not. Was it due to the fact that Karen at the service department was rude? I think so . We had an exchange of words. First she gave me wrong keys and told my car was on the side . There are 2 sides . I didnt find it had to come back get right key and then she said claimed she did not say that . She had a tone and I told her "you have an attitude" and I asked what is your name "Karen " and points to sign. I said "I can't wait till I get the survey . "Needless to say I never got it. Why? So here I am on Yelp now. I plan on calling the dealership questioning why they never sent me their survey ... can't be selective about what your customers have to say.
