This was my first ever all inclusive resort experience. I can honestly say I feel like my life has been changed for the better after this vacation. We ventured here with my partner and his family for his 40th birthday celebration, and the entire week didn't disappoint. First, the staff is incredibly kind and hospitable. Each morning you are greeted with smiles and they always make themselves available or attentive to your needs. I barely could open a door during the entirety of my stay. A major shout out to the entertainment team, specifically Bidi Bidi Bum Bum (her nickname), who kept us relaxed and busy during the week. Bidi is incredible. Next, the overall hotel esthetic is quite nice. It certainly has its own unique design decisions, but the accommodations in your room are amazing. Each suite has its own mini fridge stocked with beer and wine that they will refill each day. Every room has a coffee machine and a large bathroom as well. They have three pools, one of which is indoor and the other is a quiet bool. The main pool has a massive bar where cocktails are poured every day from 9 - 7. Not only that, the five restaurants and the buffet have so much food I think I could not eat for a whole week after the large amounts of steak and seafood I ingested. This was remarkable! Unclear how it has been rated this low but I am here to say this was a world-class experience. The level of customer service was top notch. As someone that has been to 10+ resort experiences across Mexico, Jamaica, DR, St Marteen and other Caribbean this is up there as one of the best. The price is incredibly reasonable 2 people for 5 days was around $1900 for all inclusive. There was 5+ restaurants, 1 beach restaurants, 1 buffet option on the resort. The Mexican dining restaurant was sensational, the steakhouse was my least favorite. A ton of different bar options around the resort. The liquor options were not bottom shelf, good mid tier options. And direct beach access, the most impressive part was it was seaweed season yet they were pretty clear. The grounds were very pretty and ton nature The room was spacious and the views from the balcony was gorgeous. Be mindful of the nature there are lemurs. They offered shows and night entertainment every night. My favorite was the fireshow and karaoke bar which is open most night. There were various pool options. There was a quiet pool option and a large more lively pool with a swim up bar. It was good vibes and entertainment. BEWARE of the time-share pitch. My husband and I just spent a week here celebrating my birthday and it was one of the best vacations I have ever had in my life. The rooms are gorgeous and well appointed. The amenities are ample and amazing, and the service is top tier. Our butler service that came with our room, shout out to Karolina and Angel, was so thorough we wanted and needed for nothing. Ice delivery to the room, a birthday cake, and beautiful floral arrangement along with top shelf liquor and everything we needed to make this a special trip. They even ran an amazing bath for me filled with rose petals. Luis who sold us brilliantly on the Club and was so very generous in our offerings. It's a great value, please listen and take advantage if you want to return. It's worth every penny. The restaurants and food was great too! We can't wait to come back soon. read more

Beautiful Resort, but Deceptive Advertising and Poor Experience Overall My wife and I stayed at JOIA Paraíso by Iberostar for our honeymoon, and while the property itself is beautiful, the experience left us extremely disappointed due to misleading advertising, poor communication, and frustrating service. Misleading Promotions When we booked, the resort advertised an $800 resort credit with unlimited golf. In reality, this "credit" was 32 coupons worth $25 each, only valid when you spent $100 or more per transaction -- not an actual $800 credit. The "unlimited golf" was also false; there was no unlimited golf. We also specifically opted out of any marketing or timeshare presentations during booking, but upon arrival were told the only way to receive our supposed credit was to sit through a "concierge presentation" -- which turned out to be a timeshare class sales pitch. We said no multiple times, but they persisted. Room Upgrade Regret We upgraded our room for $900, assuming the $800 resort credit would nearly offset it. Once we realized the credit was misleading, we asked to revert to our original room and were told no. The logic we booked under was completely undermined. Check-In Chaos From the moment we arrived (around 2:30 p.m.) to when we finally got to our room (almost 5 p.m.), the process was a mess. We were shuffled between staff, waited nearly an hour for our bags, and were exhausted before even starting our honeymoon stay. Persistent Timeshare Pressure Even after sitting through the first pitch, we were stopped again the next day in the lobby by another concierge trying to sell the same "class." It took a firm "please leave us alone" to get him to stop. Not exactly the peaceful honeymoon experience we hoped for. Room Issues Our first room had a broken toilet, no hair dryer, no TV remote, and a balcony door that didn't lock. The humidity made everything damp -- even the bed sheets. After our travel agent intervened regarding the false advertising, the hotel tried to "make it right" by moving us to a villa, offering a 30-minute couples massage and one round of golf for one person. The villa, however, came with its own issue -- a very loud tree frog that chirped every 15 seconds. It was enough to send my wife to tears from sheer frustration. We ended up moving again (our third room in three days). The new room had working amenities, but our keycard didn't work for the beachfront door for several nights, and the shower pressure was barely functional. ‍ "Couples" Massage That Wasn't The 30-minute "couples massage" they offered was actually in separate rooms -- not together. Definitely not what we expected or needed after everything we'd gone through. Food and Service The one bright spot: the kitchen staff was very accommodating to my wife's gluten allergy. She only got sick once due to a mislabeled dessert, which was corrected the next day. Service overall, though, was very slow. It routinely took 30+ minutes to get a drink at the bar, and during meals, staff rarely checked on tables. Guests were getting up to refill their own water from the service stations. Summary While the resort grounds are stunning and the food quality was decent, the false advertising, constant sales pressure, and poor service completely overshadowed our honeymoon. We spent more time dealing with problems than relaxing. If you're looking for an honest, stress-free all-inclusive experience -- especially for a special occasion -- I would recommend looking elsewhere. read more

SUPER BAD EXPERIENCE @IBEROSTAR MEMBERSHIP PRESENTATION + BAD ROOM/CONCIERGE GUEST SERVICE! SERVICE DEGRADED!!! So we just came back from JOIA PARAISO Iberostar Monday 1/12/26. On Friday 1/9/26 we agreed (me & my husband) to go next day to a Iberostar MEMBERSHIP Presentation. We said from the very beginning that we aren't committing to anything yet...because if this was going to be another Timeshare...we would run for the hills. MIRIAM @ Front Desk Concierge booked up for 8 am 1/10/26 and seemed to understand our one specific statement - we are not buying right now!!! In exchange for lending our time for this presentation, they promised 200$ Iberostar Cash and a FREE Massage, 2 in 1 (MIRIAM said)... We went to the presentation the next day...the 90 minutes that DAVID promised this will take, turned into 120+ minutes. At the end, we said the same thing we said to MIRIAM the previous day (by the way - DAVID was next to her when we booked)... NOT TODAY! Regardless, 3 people kept trying to "close us".... When we're finally done, they don't have the "Free" (wasn't free) Massage Certificate + The $200 Iberostar Cash. We wait and finally get it. Didn't think to look inside the envelope right then and there... When I go to the Hotel, I found $150 instead of 200 Iberostar Cash. Back to the Front Desk... Whomever what there didn't know anything about it...of course...Let me talk to this and that person...come back... Eventually I got it later that day. Around 7 PM I go by the SPA to schedule the "Free" Massage... My husband didn't want to go. I go and ask if I can just do the massage alone. "No, no, no ...you have to pay if no 2 people" someone said at the Front Desk of the Spa in a super broken english. At this point I am just irritated... Finally I go back to the Front Desk Concierge and find MIRIAM... I explain to her the issue and she gives me the $50 Iberostar Cash and then tell me that I can have a friend with me, instead of my husband. We book it for the next morning at the beach... The service was so-so, because when I asked for a little more pressure I was told that that is more $$. Fast forward to checkout... Surprise - surprise!!!...I had to pay for 1 of the massages in the end. But nobody explained ever the concept of "BUY ONE GET ONE FREE" that anyone understands in this world... Even simpler than that...nobody said "PAY FOR ONE GET ONE FREE".... Instead they kept saying "FREE' Massage and then they put both our names on the certificate. OK - let's say, I got it wrong the 1st time...but Saturday night when I spoke to MIRIAM the 2nd time...she could have explained it better...NOPE...that didn't happen... When we get to Checkout - FERNANDO, some manager gets involved...let me see...blah blah blah...and of course nothing got credited, nothing was solved as we had to leave and our ride was waiting. I think they do this on purpose, or it is a case of really bad Sales combined with bad English...In which case, they should not be allowed to interact with the public / resort guests for sales purposes! STAY AWAY FROM THEIR SALES ANYTHING...waste of time, pressure, incompetence, INABILITY TO EXPLAIN & the Front Desk staff not able to resolve anything! ROOM SERVICE IS TERRIBLE! We let a NOTE for the Cleaning lady - in Spanish, to please get us more coffee and restock the fridge. Of course the fridge was not restocked, and no coffee. We had some wine in the fridge, but no opener. Towels were not replenished either on a daily basis. I had to call the Front Desk to specifically ask for everything... At some point we gave up...because the Coffee Machine Broke...then the AIR was not working... HOT TUBS - NOT HOT... The so called HOT Tubs in the main pool and the quiet pool are NOT HOT at all. The ones in the SPA are HOT sometimes...I guess it depends on the day... NOBODY HAS CHANGE....INSANE ATM FEES! The Front Desk cannot break bigger bills! So unless you want to pay $10 to get Cash from the ATM, bring smaller bills... NO RESERVATION SYSTEM - NOT GOOD... Why did they have to change their previous reservation system, when it was working...not sure. But the First Come First Serve is a DISASTER! You have to wait in line literally when they open, because later you have no chance to get in...while you see all these empty tables... So BUFFET it is for you once again! CREDIT TO THOSE THAT DESERVE IT: But I wanted to give CREDIT to those that deserve it: Bell Staff, Security Staff, Pool Bartenders - Rodrigo, Humberto, Gabriel, Aron // The Lobby Bar Bartenders Daniel, Dario & Gerardo // Rhapsody Bar - Luilly & Jonathan + most of the serving staff was great! I mean... this is IBEROSTAR JOIA....their so called "JEWEL"... But for the $$$$$ you pay to get to Iberostar...the Room / Cleaning Service / Concierge / Sales Team is REALLY BAD. We have been here TWICE before - and I feel that the service has very much degraded from our previous 2 stays. I am certainly NOT RETURNING to this IBEROSTAR... I stayed here for 7 days on this trip. Daniela, with the star prestige staff, went out of her way to ensure that we had everything we needed. And yes, out of her way by helping us on her day off. We felt valued and appreciated. Mauro, our butler, ensured everything ran smoothly and kept a watchful eye to point out things we didn't even know that we needed. By anticipating our need he helped us have a memorable time. At the French restaurant, Emilio's passion for food and great service made the meals enjoyable. Daniel our chef at the Japanese provided not only a culinary experience but a visual one by putting on a great show. Spa at the grand: Jaime he was the receptionist and dida great job. Grisel did a great job as my massage therapist. Luilli (pronounced Luigi) at the Rhapsody bar. Reyes at the dinner buffet did a phenomenal job of not only suggesting the perfect wine but making sure that we needed nothing. Felix at the steakhouse was a true professional and took care of us like family. At the Italian restaurant, Laura the hostess was welcoming and helpful. (She also works at the breakfast buffet doing a great job there). Eusebio was our waiter and was very attentive, helped educate us to the offerings for the members and made us feel welcome. Great job 10 out of 10. He offered spot on recommendations. The food here was amazing. I had the lasagna, with short rib. Hand made pasta with fresh sauce. 100% authentic. At the Rhapsody bar, Luilly's expert mixology skills provided superior elevated cocktails that are on another level. I would bet that he could make a regular Coke taste better. If you like a good cocktail experience, be sure to stop by. Paulina at the front desk was very helpful and attentive to any issues that popped up during our stay. Finally thanks to Julio with the Club, who helped explain some of the exciting changes come to the Grand and assisted with any club member issues that came up. Apologies to anyone that I left out. 4 stars for the fun memories made here. If I could write about my entire trip I would. It took me maybe a month to bounce back from my vacation at Iberostar in Riviera Maya. My girlfriends and I planned a trip to celebrate all of our 30th birthdays collectively. I couldn't say no! Here are some of the basics that you need to know before booking: The reservations were very affordable. Among the 5 of us, we shared an adjoined family suite which included 2 bathrooms, one king sized bed, and two full sized beds. The rooms were spacious and we even had a patio. Cleanliness was decent and they came to change linens! The grounds are huge! Maybe 15 minutes on foot from our rooms to the main dining hall/front desk. Very thankful for their golf cart shuttle system on days when walking just didn't feel like an option. But because grounds are large, you have many places to explore. On our first day alone, we encountered so many different animals. A group favorite were the Coati, which looked similar to raccoons. We also got to see iguanas, macaws, swans, flamingo, and peacocks. The food was repetitive but a lot better quality Mexican food served than on the west side of Mexico. As part of your stay, you can make one reservation per room. Since we had two, we got to try 2 different special dining experiences. If you're thinking about get sushi here, I just don't think it's worth it haha. You won't be getting the same quality that you are used to. Try the Mexican food or maybe even the Greek restaurant. Something to note: This resort has its own purified water system and no plastic water bottle policy. Like all resorts, you get beach access and pool access. The variety of pools here made each day super interesting. We stayed near the wet bars so we could enjoy mas tequila during our dips. We spent a day on the beach and rolling with the tides in the Gulf! The water is so warm, a lot of seaweed, but tolerable because the temperature was nice. Everyone who works at Iberostar is so kind and accommodating. I have definitely already recommended this place to others and would love to visit again someday. The location is only an hour or so from tulum and the Mayan ruins, so if you are making plans, that's something to consider! Outstanding Outstanding Outstanding - This is one of my favorite and best run resorts I have been to. The property, dining, amenities, rooms and best of all STAFF makes this a top choice. First off -- this trip was taken in the Fall of 2020. Therefore, there were extra protocols taken for safety and health. Indoor restaurants required masks, social distancing was enforced and the entire staff wore masks (whether inside or outside). Additionally, when arriving to the resort, they had a kiosk that scanned your temperature. Plus -- All gyms required temperature checks too on every visit. Iberostar went to the nth degree to make sure we stayed healthy. As for the experience... WOW! There was never a reason to leave the resort --- everything was there and taken care of. Food wise, the specialty restaurants had unique dishes and great atmosphere. But the buffets were the big shocker! The variety and customization of food was amazing. The neighboring resort (Lindo) probably had the most amazing breakfast buffet with food type from around the globe --- including a 'doughnut station.' All of the pools were amazing (both at the Grand and Lindo resorts). The staff was always making sure you were taken care of --- with your beverage of choice and fantastic snacks. There were several contests and events too where you had the chance to win prizes and get to know the staff and other guests. Every night the resorts had entertainment and shows that were outstanding -- both for adults as well as families. I honestly was not interested in going --- but was dragged along. By the end of the first night, I was hooked and planning future evenings. Now for the most important ingredient at Iberostar.... the staff. I just can't say enough great things about each and everyone. They really made the entire vacation a most memorable experience. Specifically... Sailin, Oscar, Adrian and Angel. This team members must never sleep because they would greet us in the morning and wish as well as we ended the evening. Their attitude, professionalism and friendliness was unmatched. Shortly after returning back to the states, we booked a return trip for the following year. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes an annual event. read more

One of our favorite Adults Only resorts. Only 35 minutes from the airport. Greeted with a cocktail while checking in. We had a Superior Suite located on the top floor in the middle of the resort. Great location. Resort does have elevators. After you checkin you can make all of your dinner reservations. Resort offers a quiet pool as well as a livelier pool with daily activities Beach is long and wide and no seaweed! Some areas tho are rocky. Breakfast is buffet style with many choices. Lunch is either buffet or the beach grill. Dinner can be buffet which is casual or Steak House..Japanese...Italian..Mexican or French gourmet. We liked the steak house the best. Staff super friendly . Nightime entertainment is in the Martini bar with singers..guitarists..duos etc. They also offer about a .30 minute show outside . Mexican heritage..fire or LED show. All very good. Room service available till 11pm. Not a party resort but a fantastic resort for special occasions or for couples to reconnect. This was our 7th time at this resort and there will be an 8th! read more

We go twice a year go an all inclusive resort in Cancun, Mexico. We been to many high end resorts and have many points we like and some we don't. This was a wonderful place we were able to create great memories in. The good... lots of water activities. Like the lazy river, adults water slides, kids water park, big pool, pool foam party and on and on. Food wise, I wouldn't say this was the best resort we've been in. Some restaurants were not available for us since they were fully booked. Which was odd!!! Since we weren't able to book ahead but when landed and checked in, no spots available the whole week we were there. Very disappointing to say the least. The concierge at the front hotel Check in was horrible and was not at all welcoming upon arrival. As in all of these hotels, they always try to sell you on timeshares we learned to say harshly NO to. But he kept insisting we reconsider. Until I just got up and left. It's like a façade of hotel to a sham of selling timeshares. After that fiasco and me not sparing my opinion about it, we dealt with the building concierge that was lovely and very accommodating. We are gluten free and dairy free family but we managed to eat most of what was available to accommodate our food sensitivities. The best restaurant in the facility was only available at lunch time and it was the Mexican restaurant. We enjoyed that one the most. The beaches were pristine with no piles of seaweed and endless activities to roam around the complex. We enjoyed our time here immensely. read more

I am very late at writing this review but wanted to mention it and add some pics. These properties are like several huge resorts in a row. The highest level and price is this one ... so the All adult Grand guests can use the other Iberostar resorts pools, restaurants ect. You can go to their restaurants and bars but i doubt you will want to. They can not use yours. So the service and food is better here. The beach is the worst though .. it's very rocky. The food is ... hit or miss. the service was hit or miss but some were excellent. the drinks and alcohol selection was great. I'd say they had the best selection for drinks of any resorts we went to. I even downloaded a drink app because if they don't know how to make it ..the app will give the recipe. I like to walk about and explore. I like to play with my camera and this resort was excellent for that .. I went to all the Iberostar resorts and looked around. Lots of birds and wildlife. I really enjoyed that. Some are wild. they have golf carts that take you around and the grand get special care .. you go to the front and they have carts just for the Grand. I like to walk but all the resorts are huge so it was helpful to have the carts to get to the resorts. The other resorts allow children. The resort is gorgeous but the marble floor and wet feet make for a dangerous situation. Several fall and you don't want to get injured out of the country ..it's expensive and the care isn't great. Was this my fav all adult .. I'd have to say no but we did have fun. The room was great but didn't love the beach being rocky and the food was not up to my standard. go in lobster season if thats something you want. you need reservations for some of the restaurants so make the reservations as soon as you can.. read more

We are regular visitors here so it always feels like home. Some staff have been here since the grand opening. Lots of new staff with fresh energy are being trained so a very welcoming mix. We love to walk the beach observing the shorebirds. The restaurants offer a great variety of creative dishes and take great care of those with food allergies. Nightly live music in the lobby bar is enjoyed by a crowd mostly in their 40's and above. There is a dance/karaoke bar that is open late for the younger crowd. Great resort for relaxing having a large pool with pool bar and a quiet pool and spa. read more

This is our second time here with an 8 year gap. It has changed some and not all positive. Overall it's a nice resort and in my opinion the entertainment staff and waiters and waitresses are the real stars here. The people are what makes this place worth the trip, the food is ehh ok, the rooms, for the price are ok. Will I return, maybe, again the staff kill it here! We've been Iberostar Club members since 2018.. We visited a couple of other "Grand" ones before and we came to this resort based on reviews and recommendations. We had very high expectations following the incredible experience we had on our visit to the Grand in Montego Bay, Jamaica. It didn't take long to feel the disappointment. First thing was a sloppy letter from the Prestige club person assigned to us apologizing for not meeting us upon arrival. He called the next day and offered to meet with us to welcome and introduce us to the many quirks in this particular facility. There was nothing extra special about his welcome or invite to upgrade. Throughout the whole week we were there it was more than obvious that he did not care one bit about us and only did the minimum to get us to accept his upgrade offer (which was ridiculous but that's a different story with a different review!). Sure.. We told him we were celebrating our anniversary and he sent a bottle of champagne with a couple of fruit "bites" to our room (literally 4-5 bites of fruit and 2 half pieces of chocolate). A couple of days later it was my birthday and again he sent another bottle of champagne with 3 pieces of macaroon to the room. He didn't even send a message with either one. That might have been his best standard but we come after a WONDERFUL experience at the Montego Bay Grand the previous year where we had a huge red ribbon on the room door welcoming us upon arrival, where they had a happy birthday sign on a cabana on the beach just for us with a champagne bottle. Where our room was decorated with towels forming birds and hearts and HBD with roses on the bed and another bottle of wine then a cake after dinner with happy birthday on it!! I mean coming from that to a bottle of champagne and a couple of macaroons was night and day for us. Only when I complained about having to go all the way to the next level hotel to have our massage did he offer one single day of couple massage at the spa at the hotel we are staying at. Otherwise we had to pay extra. Every day we had to travel to the next level hotel to have the massage separately there. Couple massages even there are extra! Every morning he would text me to ask how we're doing and if we decided on the upgrade offer. When I finally said we did not accept it he did not even bother to respond and we stopped hearing from him until we left. I even sent him a message the day we left and he totally ignored it. Needless to say that this guy's actions spoiled most of our expectations. Add to it a very limited number of restaurants with average food. A remarkably under average buffet with stale bread, old cheeses and tasteless food. The buffet was the worst as far as the food. The other restaurants were average. I have to give credit where it's deserved. The butlers were wonderful, most of the staff were very helpful and nice to us. The inside of the hotel is elegant, the quiet pool is very pretty, entertainment was adequate. But if I were to choose between this place and Montego Bay I would most definitely pick the latter. By far Montego Bay is superior on so many levels especially their prestige person Martha who was simply amazing while Eddie in Cancun was lowest grade amateur. read more

We stayed at the JOIA Paraiso for a week in a beachfront, beach access, butler available suite. The positive things first. The butler staff, the wait staff, were all very kind, happy, and eager to please. Because it was low season, there appeared to be a lot of time for the staff to spend time on their phones scrolling, doing social media, etc. When we showed up, they jumped to service what we needed, which ended up being very little over the week stay. I would NOT recommend visiting this resort during low season. At least two restaurants closed daily for 'maintenance', which appeared to be more related to not wanting to have to open and pay the help. This meant that you had a much more limited selection daily....or guests could frequent the buffet over and over again, which isn't ideal. The Teppanyaki restaurant showed completely booked each day on the hotel app, but never was there any more than 1-2 tables being used and making a reservation was prohibited but both us and by our butler. Seems again that they don't have enough cooks to handle the demand in low season. The buffet was decent at all times. Breakfast was probably the best of all the selections. The GALA night was less than what was made up to be. I suspect in peak season, the food would be more fresh, replenished more often, and more appealing. Not much the resort can do other than what they are doing, but the constant seaweed infestation makes enjoying the beach almost impossible, whether it's the seaweed or the constant tractors and trucks trying to haul it away, and right outside our room door. "Members" appear to get the best treatment and options, so be prepared to take the tour, be hit up to buy into membership, and take the 'we are not a timeshare' presentation. read more

We were happy to see the resort was not at full capacity and had no trouble finding a seat at the pool and restaurants. The place is older and falling apart in many areas. Pieces of stone missing from balconies, wobbly railings, weathered shower tile and the discoloration of the jacuzzi tub in the room was not inviting. However the resort was large and open and easily accessible. Most staff was friendly and excellent. Pool side waitstaff were awesome as were the entertainment promoters. They were Super chatty and friendly and outgoing. Bartenders by the pool were also great. We didn't see or hear from our butler much. They also called our room at inopportune times, waking us at 9am etc. we ended up unplugging the phone from the wall. Enjoyed the breakfast buffet variety with made to order omelette and other tasty pastries as well as drink options. Burger setup near the pool over lunchtime was also tasty and convenient. Used the spa almost daily but the women's steam room was out of order for our entire stay. Hot tubs were not hot, just semi warm, both at the spa and outdoors. Hallways were quiet, beds were comfy and you can order extra pillows using their ap. We were disappointed their website says airport transportation was included but it was not. We were told we had to take taxi for $50+. The shopping center was also disappointing and run down. Wait staff at the restaurants in the evening were great. Menus very limited, and sometimes out of things if you dine later (we always ate at 8/8:30.) read more

Beware if you stay at this resort; the electrical code is not followed and you could be at risk of electrocution. The management of the resort always tends to fall short in how they handle problems and issues of importance. We have stayed at the Grand Paraíso resort 3 times, and every time it has been in a villa room with a private swimming pool. On Tuesday, April 16 we had a major issue at this resort with the villa private swimming pool light not working. I communicated the issue with Star Prestige. The maintenance crew was sent the following day around lunchtime to swap out the light. Luckily, I had to go back to the room and caught them installing the light wrong. The maintenance crew cut the cord of the light under water and tapped the new light back to the old light cord, which was a completely wrong installation. The light and cord should have been replaced as a whole with no splices. Splicing the wires underwater and taping them back together is a potential risk for electrocution in the swimming pool if the tape fails over time since water is a major conductor of electricity. I have been an electrical engineer and also a swimming pool builder for 15 years in the US, and that is completely wrong. I would be out of business if I was wiring my swimming pools this way. At that point, you are endangering the lives of anyone that gets in the pool. I communicated what I saw with Star Prestige management and they sent the maintenance crew back to try to explain/justify how the installation was done right in their mind. The light installation was done completely wrong in all aspects of electrical code in any part of the world. Splicing wires under water is completely wrong and deadly. I spoke to Saray Trevino manager at Star Prestige after the incident and she was still taking the side of the maintenance crew and bad installation process. Due to this incident, we were unable to ever use the swimming pool in our villa for our stay. I was not about to put my wife, unborn son, and myself at risk of electrocution. This upsets me the most because that was the number one reason we stayed at Grand Paraíso again so my pregnant wife could tan and use our pool in private. The staff never offered to replace the light the right way since they knew I was upset at the situation and knew what I was talking about. They left it as It was and tried giving us the speech of how it was done right and they had procedures in place they always followed. Knowing what I know about electrical code a speech was not going to give me peace of mind to use this pool under any circumstances. This was way too risky for me to play with our lives and my unborn son. The maintenance crew and Ms. Treviño are far from knowing how to wire a pool light the correct and legal way. I am attaching pictures and a video to this review to prove what I saw and happened. I am certain I will never return to this resort ever again since I am now concerned about how everything is wired all over the resort.  I waited this long to write this review because I was told that this would be escalated to upper management since this was such a serious problem. I assume this issue got swept under the rug by management at the resort because I was never contacted by anyone, even more so because I am a member of this hotel chain, which in reality does not mean anything to them. I am also posting about this issue now since I learned about the tragic incident that just occurred at Sonoran Mexican Resort, where a Texas couple got electrocuted in the spa and one of them lost their life. I am seriously concerned about the electrical code enforcement Mexican resorts follow and how the hotel I trusted handles this type of issue. This is by far the BEST resort we have ever stayed at. The accommodations were terrific. The hospitality reminded us of Disney. The staff was extremely friendly. The food was top notch. The variety of food, entertainment and amenities was perfect. We will return for years to come. Anyone who reads this must ask for Oscar, the pool concierge at the main pool. He smiles all the tome, remembers the guests by name, is hospitable and goes above and beyond to help with anything. Our housekeeper, Elvira always made returning to our room special with many nice things she did for us. At the lobby, in concierge was the first representative we met, Jenny. She was by far one of the most personal and friendly associates in the entire resort. We were truly BLOWN AWAY with this amazing experience and look forward to our next visit!!! read more

My fiancé and I recently stayed at the Iberostar Grand Paraiso and we can't say enough great things about our stay, the hotel and the amazing staff! Everything was better than the next and we were never unsatisfied with anything. The service and staff were the ferry on top and truly made our stay so great--we can't wait to go back! Arrival/Check In- Upon our arrival, we entered the resort complex which is one large property with 5 different hotels. When we pulled up to the Grand, we were greeted by a friendly bellhop and our concierge, Sara who was so friendly and great. We had our temperatures taken, offered hand sanitizer and were given welcome drinks. At the front desk, we worked with Paulina and she was so sweet and kind with getting us set up for our week stay. We upgraded from a garden view to a pool view and it was a great decision. From check in, we sat in the lobby and got a drink as we waited for our room. The bellhop then came over and took our bags and walked us to our room. Room- We upgraded from a garden view to a pool view and we overlooked the quiet pool and it was so beautiful. All rooms look the same and have the same amenities (aside from suites) and they were very spacious, clean and welcoming. All rooms have a balcony as well with a chair and couch. We had an amazing butler and housekeepers, who took care of anything everything we needed! Thank you so much to Elena, Maribel and our butlers Irmin and Armando!! Food/Drinks- We weren't sure what to expect as some all inclusive hotels can be hit or miss but the food here was delicious! They had 4 restaurants open and all of them were great and had different menus. Our favorite restaurant was Italian and the hibachi we went to at the other hotel, the Maya. Everything had flavor, tasty and was thoughtful in presentation. For breakfast, they had the restaurant by the pool open each morning for a breakfast buffet. The presentation was beautiful and the selection was bountiful. The servers were great and friendly and very accommodating. For lunch, they had the oceanfront restaurant restaurant open and you could sit inside or outside. The fish tacos and shrimp and chicken skewers were AMAZING! I would order them everyday if I could. At the buffet, they had so many different options and items changed daily. Amenities/Services- -Spa: the spa they have at the Grand is stunning and very grand, just like how the name alludes too. They have a beautiful pool with different water features, a hot tub, massage rooms and juice bar. We also visited the spa in the front of the complex which was just as amazing and better. They had a large saltwater pool and a sauna, steam and jacuzzi room. Our attendant was so friendly and helpful. He showed us how to use the sauna room and what the circuit was that we should follow for the ultimate experience. He brought us water and juices and was so kind. They also had a great special for a 20 minute facial which we both did right by the pool. -Massage: we chose to do an 80 minute beach front deep tissue massage and it was so wonderful! Our massage therapists were great and the sound of the ocean made everything even better. -Pool: the main pool at the grand was so beautiful and was the main feature to the hotel. They had beautiful cabanas, day beds and lounge chairs both in the pool and our. The waitstaff were so accommodating and eager to get us whatever we needed. Thank you to Maya for being our go to girl by the pool!! They also had a poolside chef serving light bites and tacos and a snack cart that they pulled around with fruits, water and veggies. -Entertainment: the hotel had an AMAZING entertainment staff that were out and about all day by the pool and beach playing games with guests and teaching different classes like sushi making, wine tasting and more. Thank you to Carlos, Gabriel, Yodan for being so friendly and making us feel so welcome. The hotel also had amazing performances each night with different show themes and the singers and dancers were amazing!! My husband and I were at The Grand last week. The staff was so conscious of the pandemic. I felt more safe there there than I do at home. All staff have a mask, and glasses on at all times. We were lucky enough to stay in a ocean from room, which was amazing! Major props to the room cleaning, and turn down staff. Our room was perfection with continually fresh towels, and made beds. I have no clue how they always seemed to catch us when we left our room without fail. The only downfall was that a lot of the restaurants and places throughout the resort were closed due to operating at lower capacity, and less staff I'm sure. So it's totally understandable. Overall, we had a great trip. If your thinking of going, just do it! read more

Spent 6 fabulous night here. I read so many reviews comparing adult all inclusives in the Playa del Carmen area before ultimately choosing Iberostar Gran Paraiso. The superior service by such a wonderful staff was at the top of so many other wonderful things that makes this the best vacation ever. Thank you Iberostar for your focus on excellence. The food was delicious, room was amazing, golf course was in great shape... Shall I go on??? Staff was so friendly and attentive to us. I also love that the Iberostar chain is focused on sustainable tourism. I will now look to stay at other Iberostar properties. WOW the resort is a lot nicer than I imagined I'm from Las Vegas and the place rivals any LV hotel. It's only a minute walk to the well maintained beach with lots of cabana huts. The buffet and restaurants are incredible. It's worth the all inclusive price. The rooms are really big and lots of amenities. If you need the COVID test to go back to the USA they only offer it at specific time and dates... if you need information about an activity they give you wrong information... if you need help with dining... they give you wrong times... if you need transportation once again they give you wrong time/ info! If you need to use the business room where the computer and printer are at.... It doesn't work! If you ask questions to 1 employee he /she say "I don't know" so then we ask another employee and the information is wrong.... Save yourself the headache and go somewhere where the employees can help !!!! read more

This review is about their COVID testing and policies. The resort itself is lovely. My friend and I stayed here for 5 days and almost nobody wears masks (except for staff). Nearly all places to eat only offer indoor dining without any windows open or ventilation. Both my friend and I are fully vaccinated, so we didn't worry. We received rapid COVID antigen tests the day before we flew out but they did not feel right. Our results came back in 5 minutes, which is about 10 minutes too fast, and were negative. We fly home and then two days later we both woke up with congestion, coughs and dulled sense of smell. One of us has tested POSITIVE using the much more robust PCR test and the other is awaiting results. We are both sick in bed. I am pregnant. This resort is likely giving out several false negatives a day and sending people on their way to dine in restaurants, ride in crowded shuttles, swim at the pool and board airplanes home to loved ones. GET TESTED SOMEWHERE ELSE OR DEMAND THEY GIVE YOU A PCR TEST. Their tests are faulty! We have the symptoms to prove it. If I could take back my entire vacation, I would. DON'T VISIT THIS RESORT DURING THE PANDEMIC! read more

This review is for iberostar Bavaro Selection ..Worst vacation ever!!, first night my husband took a shower and the water ran all the way out into the hall, so he had to use towels to clean it up and to stop the water from running out the shower. The room was very hot and the fridge was not working well, the beverages were barely cold. Stayed in that room(1237) for 2 nights then we moved ourselves to another room(1304)after lobby failed to get air and fridge fixed as promised after my husbands complaint.The air in the second room was just a little bit better fridge still seemed not to work as well.Next day went well and was glad we had our room changed but had to keep ordering ice to keep our drinks cold.The next day we went to the pool upon returning to room our door was wide open with the toilet detach from wall (says they're doing work to bathroom downstairs)we than called front desk to put complaint in and asked for a supervisor to come to room to show what was going on as well; his name was Francis and said he would send complaint to lobby. Later on that day we're getting ready to have dinner the lights went out for 20 mins so we left out room to see if it was the whole resort but it was only our room! As we were going downstairs notice maintenance man coming out of electric room. We went to lobby and spoke w/ head supervisor ensured she would have all construction stopped but next morning was woke up by more noise. Next day lights went out again, We were all eaten up by bugs by end of trip! Food was not good Very sad read more

My husband and I stayed here as the 2nd part of our honeymoon back in August 2014. This resort was absolutely amazing. Upon checking in some time between 9-11pm, we were promptly greeted and brought up to our room....by our personal butler who was assigned to us. UM WHAT?! This was incredible. He went on to describe that anything we needed or wanted, he was just a phone call away. He said that if we wanted a bottle of alcohol, that it's included. Just call him up and it would shortly be in our room, even if we weren't in the room at the time, it would be placed in there for our return. New pillows that varied from hard to soft. There was actually a pillow menu in our room and we could call up and request a certain type of pillows to be delivered to us. The kicker was when he was explaining all of this to us, he was drawing us a bath. He said, to take advantage of it one night. For example as we are at the bar downstairs (Which has a great assortment of drinks and shots) to give him a call to "draw a bath" and a filled bubbly tub would be waiting for us when we got upstairs....and it was. Now my husband and I joke to this day about the "drawing of a bath." This specific resort is all-inclusive and adults only, but there are other kid friendly properties on the resort that you are welcome to visit. They will bring you in a golf cart to any of the other properties you want to visit at any time during your stay. This includes a great ice cream shop and a quick place for tacos...oh, and a night club. That night club was so dated, from the decor to the music. Think a Star Wars themed, UFO-ish vibe playing music circa 2002-2006, but that was kind of what made it a fun place to be. The swim up bar was great with the exception of the bees swarming the blenders, but that's beyond the resort's control understandably. The restaurants were incredibly exquisite and overwhelming amazing with options. I think I must have ate me fill in expensive, pricy cheeses alone. The specialty restaurants, you need to make reservations for. We really enjoyed the Italian one best. We did get a couples massage too while there, kind of expensive, but it was our honeymoon so when in Rome. There are some interesting animals that roam the resort too, from iguanas just chilling to what we called "MungerDogs", they looked like a monkey type of dog creature. Both totally cute and harmless. There is also a daily schedule of games and sports, from pool games to archery, I think darts...there just was always something going on. All I can say is that this place was by far the most luxurious resort I have ever been to, to this day....I just dream of going back. read more

My biggest issue with this hotel is the drinking water. The Vero filtration system specifically. They eliminated bottled water, which is fine, I'm all for the environment, but let's face it...this is also a huge cost cutting measure. The water tasted salty and very hard. Not to mention, the reusable single server bottles smell like whatever was in them prior to being reused. (i.e. juice) I complained to the staff and was told I was the FIRST person to complain! A quick google search and you'll find a trip advisor thread with several people complaining about the water. (Which I have not contributed to.) I will admit I'm a huge water snob, but it's almost all I drink. No juice, soda, and very little alcohol. If someone complained about the quality of vodka, would they listen? Our standards are high at nice resorts. I've stayed here twice but unfortunately, I won't be back due to this alone. This is a hospitality issue, fix it! Two stars because the weather is perfect otherwise big disappointment . The food by the beach is awful . Not sure how you mess up hamburgers and hot dogs but this place puts the bare minimum into food and amenities and it shows . I would consider this place a high end all inclusive. based on the pricing , but the quality pales in comparison to other places we have stayed like Excellence Riviera Maya and Hard Rock Punta Cana. Huge sprawling resort with minimal assistance via golf carts etc . The main lobby bar serves "popcorn " for happy hour and throughout the evening. Weird vibe here . The staff is accommodating but not overly friendly or enthusiastic about making sure the guests have fun . I tried to order an omelette and coffee for breakfast and I was told fried or scrambled eggs only and use the lame coffee maker in your room . Very basic offerings here. read more

Fantastic Iberostar Grand! I've stayed at Iberostar Grand Rose Hall while in Jamaica and this one in Cancun is very similar. Service was top notch, which if you are familiar with Iberostar Grand's you will know that the customer service is fantastic from everyone from the front desk staff, bell hops, waiters, bartenders, pool towel hut, everyone! Everyone says "Hello"! I love the layout of the rooms, large sitting area, patio with swing, door between front door and bed room, HUGE bathroom including a soaker tub. The food was fantastic at the buffet, Japanese and Italian. The Mexican was not as good as Mexican night at the buffet (Sunday's, includes a mariachi band), the surf and turf was okay, the French was a horrible experience and we didn't even eat. Maid service is fantastic and turn down service is very nice. The resort is ridiculously clean! Which is amazing because this place is HUGE! It's Vegas HUGE! It will take you at least 10 minutes to walk from the front desk to the beach. Even though it was HUGE, it didn't feel crowded. There were always places to sit at the beach and pool, seatings at the buffet were always less than 2 minutes and most restaurants had open reservations. I will note that I would recommend emailing the hotel concierge in advance of your stay to book your al a carte restaurants to have the best seatings. It is also a good time to let them know if you have special preferences for the mini bar such as no beer, extra wine, extra chocolate, etc. It's also good to pick you pillow preference from their pillow menu as well. Other things that were great were the the multiple other resorts you can visit and use the facilities including restaurants, the shopping center in the resort complex (you can get a golf cart to drive and pick you up), the Main Spa was fantastic and the shuttle from the Lindo to Playa Del Carmen 5th Street. Things to note that I did not like was the new Iberostar Club, they have a special seating section at the beach with their own bar (never saw anyone) and a special lounge in the main building. Because of this the timeshare people (Iberostar Club Starfriends) will leave you a note everyday saying to come and speak with them to collect your free gift. This is a timeshare presentation tactic, FYI. I also didn't like that the beach was not walkable because of the steep slope from the fluffy sand to the water, it was not wide enough to really walk down the beach through the water plus the beach ends when you get to the resorts north and south of the Iberostar. The water was also rougher than expected but that's not controllable. read more
