We've eaten at Jo Jo Pittsford for many years and have always enjoyed the food and ambiance, although it's often loud. We recently had a Pizza and salad there. The server was very good but the pizza took a very long time to arrive. It appeared they may have been understaffed. We had a Pepperoni and mushroom Pizza that was good but one piece had something on it that tasted and looked like a piece of meat fat. We advised and showed the server what we found and she said it appeared to be chicken. (It was inedible grissel) We have never experienced that with a Pizza and was potentially a health hazard. It did appear that they have declined since our last visit. read more

A group of friends decided to meet here for a birthday gathering of 8 people. The place is quite loud, hard to converse within the group. I got there late. It is kind of hard to find a restaurant if one is not familiar with the area. I got there late, and the food was not served yet. I ordered my food, and then, we all got the food at the same time. Good. Two pounds of mussels across from me were shared by some at the table. I saw pastas, fried calamari, and Steak Salad(I was not too impressed by it), I got the Pork Chop. It was tender, although I ordered cook well done. The sauce was delicious. It came with Shoestring Fries. Tasty. A glass of Precose to wash everything down. Refreshing Caitlin, our server, was excellent. I told her to bring the special Orange Chocolate Torte for the Birthday Girl with a little candle, and she did in the end. This wasn't my first time to JoJo- but each time has been a nice meal and experience. We wanted a table for 4 on a Monday night and the only online reservation before 8:30 PM was 5:15 so we went for it! Earlier than we usually eat but I do know it is a busy place. When we got there - the place was half empty (though the bar was cranking!) But within 45 minutes the tables were pretty filled. They do a great business here! We had a fantastic waitress- smart, funny and I can't remember her name unfortunately- but she was very attentive and gave great advice on menu questions. After ordering drinks (I'm a draft beer guy and they had a good selection) we started with the Raclette app- basically thick cut potato chips with melted cheese on them. Very good! I ordered the Pork Chop - which was huge and very tasty- it came with a demi glaze sauce. The others at my table ordered pizza- wood fired- a pepperoni and a sausage and pepper- classic versions. I tried a slice and it was awesome. It did get a little loud as the place filled up- but the place is so good that it gets busy. We took our out of town friends here- and they really loved JoJo! When traveling, we look for places where locals gather. This is it! Friday night was vibrant here. Friends at the bar enjoying appetizers and drinks. Friends at the tables celebrating birthdays or just getting together to kick off the weekend. Loud and inviting. Perfect way to taste local life. Our server Christina was very friendly. Gave us excellent recommendations and brought our food very timely. She gave us space to enjoy our time. She had great context on the menu and also shared great info on the neighborhood. We tried the pork loin, with Brussel sprouts and the very flavorful special steak of the day. Both were tasty, properly cooked. My steak was tender, juicy, flavorful. What a darling spot! Came here recently with a coworker and very much enjoyed the experience. For beverages, they're primarily a wine bar but do have a few cocktails on menu. I opted for their green can tea cocktails which is a delicious mix of bourbon, ginger liqueur, and green tea. It was refreshing and delicious. For my main, I went for their grilled romaine with salmon added. The salmon was beautifully cooked and delicious. The grilled romaine camed drizzled with caesar dressing and had a nice smoky flavor. All in all, a solid dish. The only complaint I'd have is the volume of the place. It's incredibly loud which made it difficult to hear my dining companion. They don't have much (if anything) to improve the acoustics/absorb sound (no linens on tables etc). Beyond that, though--the meal, drinks, and service were lovely! Get to it! read more

There's a huge bar section as you walk in and a nice toasty pizza oven, a pleasant surprise to walk into from the outside cold. The plus for me was the many options of wine flights. Wine tasting without driving to the Finger Lakes. There's also plenty of other drink options for the non grape juice drinkers. Pizza was my favorite with its soft & crispy perfectly char crust. Mussels and fries were huge & the Octopus was surprisingly filling with the chorizo & beans. Overall, I enjoyed everything we ordered. Not sure if there is a limited number of decent restaurants in this area of town or not - because this place was very packed, and for 2 hours I could not figure out why. To begin with, the place is extremely loud and it was near impossible to have a conversation. The acoustics of the interior were doing this place zero favors. I ordered a burger that for some unknown reason was $20. It was nothing special or spectacular. It was mostly bland. Service seemed friendly, but slow. This place had more of a feel of a loud pickup bar than a fancy restaurant or a chic bar to chat and have conversations. We popped in to order some takeout and have a glass of wine after Christmas, availing ourselves of a gift certificate from my SIL who lives in Pittsford (we ventured the whole way from the exotic far-flung locale of Gates). I thought that the menu selection was great-- not too much, not too little, and well-balanced to suit various tastes and gastronomic objectives. We got the specialty pizza, which was pepperoni drizzled with just the right amount of honey. We then got two pasta dishes, one of which was gnocchi with a red sauce. I thought the gnocchi was good. The other one-- with butternut squash and other stuff- had all of the right ingredients but it felt like it was missing something, like perhaps it was under-seasoned. I'm not sure. Anyway, they have some really great happy hour specials, too, and it's a charming, cozy, modern barn kind of an interior. We sat at the bar and the bartender was great. read more

Food was a bit off last evening. First time I've had the pizza that it wasn't spot on. Too heavy and not crispy enough. Service, as always, is excellent. I have to challenge other reviews that describe the setting as intimate. Intimate implies some privacy and a level of quietness. But the noise, the noise, the noise. I can only assume the owners want to encourage this cacophony. It's all but impossible to hold a normal conversation so everyone yells at one another and that just raises the levels. There's an interesting app available called SoundPrint that allows you to test the decibel levels in setting and then make a note of that for others. Jo Jo consistently scores above 81. Last evening, it was 82. On weekends, it's higher. Note that exposure to that level of noise for any extended length of time can damage your hearing. read more

This place gets a solid 5 stars for atmosphere alone. That gorgeous S-shaped bar is not only aesthetically awesome, but it also has a way of maximizing seating space. Their menu selection is well-rounded with some complex flavor combos as well as some classic favorites. Same goes for their drink selection. Fresh ingredients throughout! Staff service on the night that I was here was very pleasant and engaging. Tons of parking which is a plus near the canal. My only critique is for my entree. The chicken in my Buttermilk Chicken dish was a little over fried (or maybe the oil was a little overused), and it was buried under salad greens. Still had a decent flavor, though. We have visited twice now, once to eat, and once to just enjoy wine. The second time made me think twice about returning. The food is good, I had the mussels, they were done properly and the sauce was tasty. The wine was average, a bit on the warm side, and not because I was sitting in front of the oven :) Nice ambiance, plenty of seating in the dining area and bar area. Two tv's. Service was okay, but not great. The second time we just got wine and I asked to see the bottle. To our surprise the wine was not that highly rated, and after looking it up we were charged as much for a glass of the wine as the bottle cost. I came in for dinner with some coworkers and truly loved my experience. We came in right at the end of Happy Hour and our server rushed to get our first wine orders in so we could make the special. I ordered the Ceasar salad with shrimp and it was quite possibly the best Ceasar I've ever had! It was incredible and filled with plump, perfectly cooked shrimp! I also ordered a side of fries because, girl dinner lol, and they were just what I wanted! Everyone else in my party enjoyed their meal equally. I've been to JoJo's a bunch of times, and it never disappoints. We were able to get reservations for Valentine's Day so I was pretty happy! I appreciated that they called to confirm the reservation! We walked in about 6:45pm and our reservation was for 7:15pm so we got a drink at the bar, and were seated at our table by 7:00pm! The food was delicious as always. The calamari appetizer was actually one of the best I've had! They even added olives and peppers by my boyfriend's request :) Our server, Colleen, was friendly, fun and energetic! She accommodated our special calamari request (above) without a question. The only thing I'm sad about is they used to have a side of macaroni and cheese with Chorizo sausage. It's not on the menu anymore. However, I bet if I asked they might be able to make it! Definitely recommend this restaurant! read more

Always a good stop for dinner. This place is located in a more posh area of Pittsford, do the dress code tends to run business casual/formal despite this being a bar. The highlights are the wines and the mussels, both of which are recommended. I'm not sure I've had a thing I didn't like in the menu here. While perhaps not the pinnacle of the restaurant scene, this is one of the best high end bars you'll find in the area. Make reservations because this place can get busy, plus parking can be tight. I have to say...went for HH with a friend and brought home take out. There is a tough crowd at my house for food brought home. The bread that came out before the food was AMAZING. Waitresses wore masks at all times and there were plastic dividers between each table, to ensure appropriate social distancing. With new covid rules, everyone must be out by 10pm. My only complaint was that the waitress didn't tell us when we had to leave by. I wish we knew how much time we had to finish our drinks. I'm a sucker for a good burger so I ordered the JoJo burger which was a sirloin patty and had gruyere (yes please), bacon, lettuce and onion. I ordered mine medium and it was cooked to perfection along with their fries. The other entree we ordered was the muscles and frites and they were extremely flavorful. I highly recommend dipping the bread in the broth once you're done! As for an appetizer, we ordered the hummus plate which came with warm hummus, grilled naan and veggies - a perfect start to our meal. Lastly, we ordered a side Mac and cheese for our toddler. There was plenty of selection from the menus, both food and drink. We nibbled on some sandwiches, all very tasty and ended with some chocolate cake - only dessert they had but it was yummy.
