We visited in St. Patrick's week hoping to have corned beef & cabbage. Not on the menu. I ordered beef brisket sandwich. Fully a quarter of the brisket was fat - keeping me at the task of trimming the meat through the ample coating of BBQ sauce. Thankfully my friend found the Shepherd's Pie delicious. The French Onion Soup was just like I remember it as a kid! It's delicious and very traditional. The restaurant is cozy inside and I love the big booths. They make it feel pretty private even if it's crowded and loud. The potato skins were yummy - nothing to write home about. The Caesar salad had good flavor, but the steak I got with it tasted off (although it was tender) and one of my pieces was totally raw inside. Not good. Didn't try the drinks, but their fall specials sounded so yummy! Service was fine - the manager came by and made jokes w/ us. They make excellent cocktails and we enjoyed a delicious dinner of Prime Rib and Beef tenderloins with bay scallops. The service is great and John the owner, personally delivered our food and did a follow up to make sure everything was first rate. They have a robot server named "Rosie" that assists the servers by bringing your food to the table for your server to serve you. This works great as it allows the server to spend more time serving the customers and avoids those large trays that clutter up the aisle ways in some restaurants. It's also a great conversation piece and it shows off the food as it passes your table. Everything looks great. The prime rib was cooked perfectly and the beef tenderloin was so tender you didn't need a knife. The Chicken French was also very good. The Haddock was perfectly cooked and they went the extra mile to handle our special carrots request. Our party of seven were very pleased. The also have excellent menu items for the Vegan members of the family The tall wooden booths give you the" Irish Tavern "feel while allowing you to be able to carry on a conversation at your table. This past St. Patrick's day I came to McArdle's with some friends to try corned beef and cabbage for the first time. They gave me the soup of the day (bangers and potato soup) for my starter and it was very delicious! The corned beef in my main platter was pretty good and they gave me a lot of food overall. My vegetables were a little bland at first, but the seeded mustard added an interesting kick to my meal! The service was kind of fun because they had a little robot that would assist the waiters in bringing platters to customers. Since it was St. Patrick's day, they invited two bagpipe players to circle the restaurant and though it was a little noisy, it was a fun experience! This is one of our go to restaurants. John (owner) always greats us and he is one of the few remaining owners that actually comes to every table to make sure you are happy! The staff is friendly, pleasant and attentive. They are known for their great service and good personality. The food is delicious, made from scratch with care for quality and service. The menu has great selections including fish fry, steaks, burgers and craft beers. Great nightly specials. They have several options for vegitarians as well. Went out for my husband's birthday & tried a new local restaurant. I used the Resy app it sent two confirmed emails , and one cancelation. My husband called & they made one under his name because they couldn't see mine. We get there on time give our name, they said they need a few tables go clear and we would be seated, 15mins go by we hear the manager go up and ask about various reservations the girl said we hadn't shown up. My husband walks over and tells them we've been sitting there & they get us a table. I order one of their Fall Sunrise Mocktails, I don't know what it is supposed to look like but of the 4 things listed I only could taste club soda & apple cider. We order two apps fried mushrooms & the pretzel, as well as the vegan ravioli & beer battered haddock. I tell the waitress I have a dairy & sesame allergy. She says "They put butter on the pretzel is that ok?" I tell her,"butter is dairy" She just looks at me. The manager stops by after she walks away informs us the mushroom batter has dairy but he can switch it. He'll figure out something for the pretzel. Apps were the best part of the experience! The waitress comes over, the Tatar sauce & coleslaw both have dairy, We know everything is made from scratch but the tartar sauce makes no sense. The manager stops by they add milk to one & sour cream to the other, pick different sides, they can give cocktail sauce. In hindsight we probably should have just said let's grab something somewhere else. We took the fish home & his substituted applesauce. My ravioli were supposed to have fried chickpeas, definitely not and I got half a cans worth. The manager stopped by at the end and said in hindsight he could have made up a tartar sauce. He gave us two tokens for drinks next time we came in. He was really nice but that's too much stuff in one hour especially for the price paid. read more

Really liked this place. We had never been here and were very happy with all of the food!! My husband and I got the Tenderloin tips with mash potatoes! Boy do I wish I had a bottomless stomach! It was SO GOOD I didn't want to stop eating. I also tried the French Onion Soup and Beef and mushroom (I think it was) soup that my family had... everything I tasted was . Have been coming for years whenever I'm in town. My mother is still in the area. Consistently good food, clean, fast and friendly service. People seem genuinely happy to work here. No fake smiles. They were able to accommodate a large group on a Friday night with a few days notice. Made my day and the day of my son's robotics team visiting from Ohio. Only my son has had a Rochester fish fry. Such a nice place. The service was excellent. She took the time to let us know what the specials were and some recommendations. The lunch special was a shrimp patty sandwich with a spicy sauce. When I asked the shrimp was no breading, just shrimp. I tried it anyway. And she was right. I'm not sure what held the shrimp together but it was just a shrimp patty. Came in around 1:00pm for lunch and was greeted and seated by the owner and he immediately took our drink orders. Ordered the French Onion Soup which was delicious! Really flavorful and hearty. For lunch I had the Spicy Fried Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich which was also very good with the just the right amount of heat. The dressing had an almost Asian taste to it. Sides: cole slaw had too much sugar for our preference. If you like sweet slaw, you'll love it. Fries were soft by the time we ate 2 hours after pickup. I don't believe I've ever given a One-Star to a restaurant before, and although I would like to try and justify and give it Two-Stars, I would be lying. I remember going to McArdle's years ago and for some reason never going back so when my boyfriend showed me some photos of their Chicken French that looked amazing we decided to try it- boy was that a mistake! The chicken was rubbery, overcooked with a batter that was both burnt,and if you can believe it, also had large amounts of uncooked egg as well. Everything just tasted burnt. The broccoli was the same way- brown and overcooked for some, while others were hard and very uncooked. Upon pick-up the staff was kind and nice and parking is very convenient, but unfortunately those are the only two good things that this restaurant has to offer. I have been going to McArdle's for years now, so if I say I am going out to dinner, my friends all say, "It must be McArdle's." A bunch of us go there every year for our December birthdays, and my mom and I also go there frequently. It is my favorite place to dine out. The food is always fantastic! Went for dinner at McArdle's to support a local restaurant. When we stepped in it was crowded. We noticed we were the only non-white customers. Were told we were 5th on the waiting list and it would take about 45 to 60 minutes. We were 'encouraged' to wait at the bar but we declined since we don't drink. About 40 minutes into our wait we noticed that more than 5 parties in the waiting area (excluding guests with reservations) had been seated but we were not called. When 2 couples who had come in after us were seated, we asked the hostesses how much more time it would take. We were told that there would be 1 more party and then it was our turn. There was no-one in the waiting area but us. At that point we walked out. Would give negative stars if possible. read more

Made reservations for a Friday evening at 7. Waited for a few minutes at the bar and ordered the Green Tea martini. It was good and tasted delish! We watched 'Rosie' the robot load up with food at the kitchen window and take off. Lol. It's kinda cool to watch her in action, she even sang happy birthday to a guest!
