My friend, her boyfriend, and I stopped by JoJo's in downtown Frederick, and it's such a cute spot! The restaurant gets lots of natural light from the huge glass windows, which gives it a bright, welcoming feel. We started with the red sangria pitcher, which unfortunately wasn't a standout for me. It tasted a little watered down, and I think it could have used more fruit and a stronger wine flavor. For entrees, my friend ordered the seafood tortellini, her boyfriend got a steak, and I ordered one of the specials--the Cajun pasta with chicken and shrimp. If you've read my other reviews, you know I like things spicy , so I asked for the Cajun pasta to be spicy. Unfortunately, it really wasn't. The Cajun flavor was pretty light and delicate, even after adding some red pepper flakes. That said, the shrimp were fantastic--large and beautifully cooked! My friend also let me try one of the scallops from her pasta, and the scallop was cooked nicely as well. Both pasta dishes came in generous portions, and there was plenty left over that we couldn't finish. One thing worth mentioning: they have an extensive gluten-free menu, which is a great option for anyone who needs it. Overall, a cute place to check out when you're walking around downtown Frederick. Stopped in for lunch after going to the library, (2 hour parking validation). Upon Skyler's recommendation we got the club sandwich with broccoli and a fish sandwich with hand cut fries. They have a full menu of specialty drinks, brews and wines. Food came out fast was hot and delicious. read more

Took my Mom to downtown Frederick for antiquing and lunch yesterday and we liked this place a lot! There are a ton of restaurants in the area within steps of each other and most are very casual - this wasn't upscale but was nicer than super casual. We ate in the restaurant downstairs not it the upper level tap room. They have a small patio with a few 4 person tables with umbrellas which was nice. The dining area was narrow and small but they have about 15-20 4 person tables that they moved around to accommodate larger parties while we were there. The hostess and the waitress were very very welcoming and the menu is extensive with many gluten free options. My Mom got the Philly Cheesesteak w/ fries ($19) - delicious (I tasted it!) Generous size and fresh meat with cheddar cheese and grilled onions. Minimal fries but they were good. I had the Crabcake Sandwich w fries ($37) - while it was a very large Crabcake for lunch I thought that was very expensive. It had old bay aioili on top and that was so so - it wasn't bad but was somewhat too mayo-y/mushy and lacked flavor - I had to ask for old bay to add on and that helped a bit but I couldn't get past the fact that it was too liquidy vs the Crabcakes I make or order in other restaurants. The vibe is great and they have 2 tables by the window so if you like to people watch def sit there - fun! VERY popular place and gets crowded fast - due to the size of the restaurant and the large parties they accommodate it can be very loud. read more

Jojos is a lovely restaurant in a beautifully restored historic building on Patrick Street. They have several seating areas to accommodate their guest and they do take reservations. The service is always wonderful and their craft cocktails are perfectly executed. I love to have a good crabcake when I am in town and their crab cake dinner is one of the best. This is a great restaurant when there is live music! And when they have great live music you are in for a real treat! The food is pretty good, even creative. The beer menu is extensive and caters to those who like to discover gems. The bar is really great to eat and drink at, the staff are invested and the clientele is rewarding! I normally will review places after I have been a few times, but JoJo's is a wild card. It's great for gluten free options but their service and standards are all over the place. I have ordered take out - the same salad 3 times. The first 2, great; the 3rd one, its so tiny and when I called to inquire about it changing, I was told "the small is small" (Thank Captain Obvious) but it was never a side size. Like this instance, previous times the Shrimp and Scallop Risotto have been prepare one day, and then different the next time. Consistency is key.... and I think its time I look elsewhere for a gluten free spot. read more

Philly Cheese Steak was good Cream of Crab Soup was watery, didn't have a rich mouth feel. Ordered Crispy Oysters app. 4 each huge overly breaded oysters. If you're going to eat oysters they should be flour-dusted and quick fried from fresh. These probably were breaded frozen. Didn't taste fresh. This is a very weak 3-star review. This is hands down the best restaurant in Maryland. My wife and I eat out 5 nights a week and we travel up to an hour in any direction from Frederick and we have yet to find another restaurant that can beat the food. Every meal and I have tried many is top notch. You feel like a private chef made it for you. Even their appetizers are unique and the taste is amazing. We eat here at least 2-4 times a month. We probably would be here more but like I said we enjoy traveling to new restaurants that we haven't had. It's a bar atmosphere but very chill. They offer live music typically starting around 7pm. The service is top notch. They are super attentive even with a slammed bar. They have standards these other 5 star restaurants should try to live up to. This is a place that deserves the best tips because I can never find anything negative to say about it. read more

Their drinks taste really fresh. We tried the blueberry basil smash, as well as the blackberry margarita, which were both very enjoyable. I love the food options at Jo Jos. This was out second visit here, and I love that they offer gluten free options and are aware of allergens. My husband ordered the fried chicken sandwich, which was perfectly fried and on a fresh warm brioche bun. I opted for the salmon sliders, which were amazing, and added some truffle fries. It was the perfect late evening meal to go with our drinks. Depending on the day and time, parking on the street may be limited, but there are options in the area. Stopped in for a late lunch and was delightful surprised - not super busy which was more to the time of day, then to the quality of the restaurant. They accommodated my request to sit outside as it was beautiful and fun people watching. I decided to pick steak and cheese, offer the brunch menu on a gluten-free bun and a dragon lotus, which was a rum based delicious experience. Service was attentive, food was delicious without being overly excessive in price. (For the area anyway you always pay a premium downtown) and everything came out as requested. We were out on an afternoon adventure on Sunday. It was Lunchtime and it was hot. In fairness, we chose based on close and AC. But that turned out to be the right choice! We arrived for Brunch, and I have to say three things. 1. the appetizer (we got the Avacado APpetizer) was stunning. 2. My dining partner of choice got the omelet. We stopped in for dinner on Mother's Day, and truly enjoyed sitting on the restaurant side of Jojo's - there is a tap House side as well, that looks like a great place to go for drinks. I had the crab cake sandwich which was fresh and flavorful, and the service from Melissa was efficient. Pricing was quite reasonable averaging less than $35 per person all-in including the entree, drinks, tip and tax. While we were traveling through town on a special occasion, this is the kind of a place we would certainly return to if we lived in the area. read more

My husband and I lived in Frederick 30 years ago when we first got married. We were staying in Frederick for the night after visiting our daughter in DC for the weekend. He was nice enough to make a reservation at this restaurant for dinner Sunday night. We arrived a little early for our reservation, but they were nice enough to seat us anyway. The downtown district is so quaint and charming, even more so than when we lived there 30 years ago. This restaurant also fits that bill. They have two big rooms for dining. The menu offers a wide variety of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and entrees. I ordered the Chipotle meatloaf with mashed potatoes and vegetables. It was delicious. It's been many years since I last visited Jojo's Restaurant & Tap House in Downtown Frederick, MD. My husband and I arrived for brunch, and we quickly found something on the menu we knew we'd like. Our waitress was one of the nicest people ever. She checked on us often and was very efficient. The food, on the other hand, was average. I ordered the chicken and waffles. In general, it was good. The waffle was golden brown, the spicy syrup was a nice change and the chicken was crunchy. Unfortunately, the chicken was also unseasoned and had absolutely no flavor. My husband also said his food was pretty bland as well. It's a shame because, on paper, the food selections look great, but the execution could be better. I stopped at Jojos on a Saturday afternoon for some drinks and some appetizers. I ordered a favorite Burley Oak draft and it was tasty as I expected. Burley Oak is hard to find on draft anywhere so I was excited that they had it. I also ordered fried pickles and the crab dip. The fried pickles were quite thick, more than usual. They had good flavor, but you had to eat them in one bite because the thickness made the whole pickles come out of the breading. Not a huge "issue" in my opinion, just making note of it if you like smaller hand held bites. The crab dip was good and as expected. Nothing fancy, just a trusted crab dip. My husband ordered the steak and cheese and that was a standout for me. It had American cheese on it so it was nice and melted creaminess. The service was good and the food was good as well. BLUF: Friendly staff, great selection of beer, nice cocktails. Drinks (5/5): We got a few beers and a cocktail. The sour beers we had were good, and we were shocked with their selection! Usually places have 1 sour, but this place had at least 3! The Lavender Gin Sour ($12) was delicious! It was a bit too sweet (syrupey) but it tasted like straight lavender with hints of gin. Food (4/5): We ordered the Fried Pickle Chips ($7) appetizer. I loved them, though we wished it was a basket of them vs a plate of 8 or 9 on a bed of lettuce that we got. It's breaded vs the normal flour batter. I prefer the breaded version since it was thicker and had a nice crunch to it. The chipotle sauce it came with was nice, it just needed to come with either a bigger container or a 2nd one since it wasn't enough for all the chips. Service (5/5): The staff was extremely nice and well versed in the different brands and types of beers.
