This is a cozy restaurant with a bar area. It's a bit dark so there's a touch desk lamp at every table where you can choose yellow or white light. We went at 4:30pm on a Sunday night when it wasn't too busy. Our waiter was very nice and came frequently to our table to check on us and asking if we needed anything. You can also make reservations online. Since the restaurant is located in a mountain area, I had no reception or internet. All the dishes we had were pretty good. They start you with warm complementary bread with butter. The filet mignon was our favorite dish with soft meat and mashed potatoes. The sauce was a little sour to complement the meat. The linguini in the seafood linguine was cooked soft so it's good for little kids, but if you would like it more al dente, you'll probably have to let them know. There were 3 mussels, 2 scallops and several shrimp all cooked well. The green beans were cooked so they were still crunchy. Some of mine were a bit too undercooked for me. There as a good amount of meat in the veal and pork bolognese over pappardelle. The noodle were cooked well and long. The Maryland crab soup was part of the daily dinner special. Wish there was more crab in the Maryland crab soup since I saw a lot of vegetables. It was pretty spicy which wasn't noted on the menu. The crème brûlée was cooked very well. We almost missed this spot since it's tucked away in the middle of nowhere, but the packed parking lot on a Saturday night told us we were in the right place. * The Appetizer: I started with the mussels. While the garlic sauce was generous and delicious, the quality of the mussels themselves was disappointing. They were all open, but they had that "off" taste associated with older seafood. * The Main: Things turned around completely with the pork tenderloin. It was cooked perfectly and paired with a very flavorful sauce. Highly recommended! * The Dessert: Finished with the coconut cake. It was incredibly moist--perhaps a touch too sweet for my personal preference, but tasty enough that I'd definitely order it again. Overall, a great find with just a minor hiccup on the seafood. It was our first time at Monocacy Crossing, and we really enjoyed their happy hour at the bar. The service was friendly and attentive, and the happy hour specials were great! The cocktails were well-made and balanced--strong without being overly sweet. We had the spicy paloma, whiskey sour, and the happy hour sparkling rosé. The goat cheese fritters were definitely cheesing! I actually spread them over the complimentary bread to make a little "crostini," and it was delicious! The highlight of our meal was the salmon with mashed potatoes and zucchini. They were also kind enough to split our entrée for us, which we appreciated. I've been wanting to try this place over the last 3 years driving past it every week! This is a cute local place that's surrounded by not much! It has a cute outdoor space and seating and inside they have a bar area and to the right of that they have the dinning space. The dinning space is a little small but spacious enough for families and/or parties. What I did notice is that this place isn't really kid friendly persay. They don't have a kids menu but they will do chicken fingers and fries and a noodle dish. I did also notice that most of the people in the restaurant didn't have any kids with them. The Food, we ordered a lot. For appetizer we had gotten: Salted Sourdough Pretzel Twists with Pimento Cheese Dip Crispy Thai Chicken Bites Crab Dip topped with Cheddar Cheese with Tortilla Chips The Pretzels were interesting, not what I expected, a little sweet and salty, shaped like a stick, was a little more doughy than I would've liked but it was good! The Cheese dip was decent, could've been more cheesy and hot but not too bad flavor wise (wasn't my fav dipping sauce but good enough) 3.5/5 The Thai bites were interesting, had decent flavor but just didn't love it. Wasn't really "crispy" because it's tossed in a wet sauce, but think of it like small nuggets that are breaded and fried, tossed a a sauce. Not my fav 2/5 The Crab dip, I'm a sucker for always ordering this wherever I go. Upon making that request the server indicated only one dessert to share among them. I get a lot of guff from my buds for never giving 5 stars to restaurants I've been to. I have always said - when I get a 5-star experience I grade as such. Well here's one: Stopped here for dinner with an 8pm reservation on a Saturday. Eyeing the menu I was excited bc there were several things I saw that I was interested in. Coming from 1:20 away, we bundled a trip to Target and Old Navy into the excursion- and somehow both of those are only 2mi up the road from here. We pulled up and walked in right at 8. There is an outdoor area with Edison bulbs hanging overhead, but we made sure with weather - to book inside. Several seating areas- bar, front dining room, and a back dining room. They were very busy, so I was interested to see if it was a "only show in town" or "this place is really good" business. Upon being sat we ordered a couple diet sodas, and I added an old-fashioned. The drink was really good - just the right balance of booze and mix. For appetizers we went with an order of crab deviled eggs, as well as the hushpuppies. I will say that the menu had about ten things I wanted to try: duck nachos, Korean beef tacos, caprese salad, etc. The deviled eggs were great: fried egg half, with the devil filling on top and lump crab meat on top. Came with 4 pieces and slaw with a nice tangy remoulade underneath. This is a must-try if you're into this items. The Hushpuppies were probably a top-10 item I've had so far in 2025. Deep-fried and moist and fresh inside with a little corn mixed in. They were served in a dish with bourbon sugar glaze sauce underneath. WOW THIS WAS FREAKING GOOD. For my entree, I popped on the bacon wrapped filet with horseradish cream, potatoes and green beans. I'm not much of a bacon wrapped anything fan - but the bacon was just an after thought that added a touch of salt and sweet to the bite. The clear sauce as well as the horseradish worked in concert with the meat to deliver an EXCEPTIONAL meal experience. Wow. Have I said that enough yet? Beans were flash steamed and fresh, potatoes were great. For dessert, I nearly got disappointed bc out of the 6 things they offered- 4 have coconut in it. Is that a big deal? No- bc I got the espresso chocolate cheesecake, BUT coconut pound cake, chocolate turtle cake with coconut, coconut creme brulee - kind of overpowers other options. My cheesecake was very good - right size and great flavor. Also had a cup of coffee. Our waitress was also very nice and after handling several tables and leaving us alone for 5-10 min without taking a drink order at the beginning of our visit - she was great. This restaurant got good reviews and the chef is CIA trained, so we felt it was worth a shot. Upon walking in, you enter into a dark bar area. We were then seated in a back room. The facility appeared a little run down. However the service and the food were fantastic. My wife and I shared the crispy artichokes, grilled romaine salad and the pork schnitzel. The food and service were good, although my quiche was a little overdone on the bottom. My mom got potato bacon soup that she liked a lot. A few things that made the experience less than stellar. The noise level in the restaurant makes it hard to hold a conversation. And, this is just a pet peeve of mine, but the hostess led us to our table and then blocked us from sitting until she poured our water. That annoys me. Just step to the side for two seconds to let your guest get to their table. Another pet peeve: the hostess laid the menus on our silverware. Do you know how many hands have touched those menus? This was my first time to this restaurant. I had won gift cards from The Housewives of Frederick. We enjoyed the gnocchi "snack" and pretzels. The gnocchi had a lighter consistency than I've had before, and it paired great with the pesto cream sauce and bacon. The bacon was a game changer in this dish! The pretzels weren't as dense as a Philly soft pretzel. The dipping sauce with chives paired great with them. My boyfriend had the burger, and added a fried egg and bacon at the waitress's suggestion. I enjoyed the pork tenderloin and veggies. The squash was really good - not overcooked. The cocktails are good - a little strong, even. Our waitress, Jade was good, not overly attentive. My boyfriend said he'd driven by the restaurant for years, not thinking much of it, as it looks small, like a plain house, but it's quite sizable and comfortable, though a little loud. My boyfriend and I came here on a Friday night, there were only outdoor tables available but figured they would have heaters and one of our friends who recommended this place also said they had heaters available as well. We were greeted warmly by the hostess and taken outside. The outdoor was well lit but no heaters But we ordered decaf coffees to warm us up. It's been a long, long while since I've been to Monocacy Crossing. It hasn't changed. Spousal Unit and I went for our anniversary dinner. Forty nine years (or as she would say, 10 good years). We did not mention this to the restaurant staff by design. We were seated immediately in the dated dining room by a very attentive staff member. SU ordered the hangar steak with shoestring potatoes - an oldy but goody on the menu for years. She swapped veg of the day (a squash medley) for the arugula salad without any ordering issue. Her steak was well cooked, but not as salted as she preferred; no salt or pepper on the table, and she wouldn't ask, so she ate it as is. I ordered the lamb chop special (the only entree on the special menu). Lamb was also well cooked and under seasoned - a really nice choice. My squash was tasty but overcooked but hey, that's what I see in virtually every restaurant. Would have liked to have the option to swap for a different veg but no other choices were offered. Bread was OK, but one of the pieces was stale - not enough to send back, but enough that we didn't eat it. Desserts were excellent. SU ordered he coconut cake, and I went with my old standby Creme Brulee. Great choices! Service was good. The wait staff was attentive without being pushy. My only quibble: food came out way too fast, not giving us time to wind down over nice glasses of wine after a long day. Would I go back? Yes, especially if I was looking for comfortable food in a comforting setting, or if I could sit on the patio and relax over cocktails on a much cooler night. But it will not be my choice for next year's big five-oh celebration. read more

I went for brunch on Sunday and though the food was quite good. I was so disappointed in the restaurant I'd gone out of my way to make a reservation because it was our 30th wedding anniversary. We arrived a few minutes early and they were able to see us at a two top directly in front of the entrance to the kitchen. There was very nice two top next to us by a window, which was available at the time, and coincidentally was also filled with a 1230 reservation, but for us on our special occasion which I went out of my way to include in the notes when I made the reservation again for our 30th wedding anniversary we get the traffic jam outside the kitchen. Very disappointing for this once in a lifetime occasion. Was regards to the service they didn't even bring us bread at the beginning of the meal. Maybe not for us. Returned to Monocacy Crossing last month, after being away for awhile. The layout has changed from a couple years ago, now seeming to focus more on the bar. Since we were there for a romantic dinner, not exactly what we hoped to see. But, after standing in the bar for a few minutes waiting for our reserved table, we were ushered into what must be the smallest of several dining rooms - maybe a dozen tables in a sparse, narrow room, with all the sounds of the loud, crowded bar room a few feet away. Our memories of the larger, more central dining room we've visited numerous times before left us a little confused. Likewise, the service seemed a little off--we really felt we had some servers that needed more training, in both tone and execution. Before they took our orders, they warned us that the kitchen was very busy and would send each thing out when it was ready; a word to the wise, I guess, though the timing was better than that warning braced us for. The food was good, but not the fine dining we had come to expect. After a decent cocktail, we had the Thai chicken appetizer, some soup, and the house-smoked salmon app (with potato latkes!). Everything tasted fine, though the chicken was pretty basic (like bar food?) though plentiful; admittedly, it was from the sizeable "snacks" section of the menu. For the entrees, we got the special bacon-wrapped filet mignon and crabcake combo, and a rockfish special. They were okay, though the steak was a bit overcooked (from medium to medium well). Total for dinner came to $133 before tip, including 3 apps, 1 drink, and 2 entrees. Maybe an off night--we may try again if we're close by. read more

Do you like food? If so, Monocacy Crossing is not for you. Today was my wife's 43rd birthday, and we were excited to try this place because the food sounded good. Key word: sounded. I started with a dirty martini that was so clean Jesus could've walked on it. The steak tartare had as much flavor as a garden party at King Charles's estate. My wife ordered the ricotta gnocchi--except it wasn't gnocchi. It was a plate of deep-fried ricotta balls, which tasted like someone lost a bet with a fryer. My mother-in-law's polenta dish was so salty, it talked back to me. We were told my wife would receive a complimentary birthday dessert. When she ordered cheesecake, it came with a $10 surprise charge. I mentioned these problems to the manager, who shrugged and said, "Well, I guess we'll try better next time." Hahahaha. Next time. Do not waste your money here. A better meal--and better customer service--could've been had at McDonald's. read more

Food is very good -- no complaints whatsoever, everything on plate was perfect. Price is killer for what you get...! Kitchen produces great food without delay. Our family has celebrated birthdays and anniversaries here for several years at Sunday brunch. It is always a delightful experience with excellent food and service. Everyone orders a different entree, but we love several of the appetizers and usually order four or five to split among 10 adults. I cannot recommend it highly enough! This is an odd review. We had great food and good service. We had several issues that we did mention to our waitress but did not ask for compensation. I had a bug in my water today after I drank it. I did not drink the bug of course. 1st strike. 2nd strike we had both had filet and luckily I caught my toothpick hidden in it as I was about to bite down. My wife keep eating hers but I did worry. I saw her toothpick just before she bit into it. Pulled her toothpick out again. We mentioned it again but let it slide again with out making it a big deal. Would have been nice to been acknowledged that these were not small details. The bug no big deal. Not going to sick from that. Toothpicks however can seriously do some damage when biting into them the wrong way. Compensation for not making a scene with a full dining room would have been nice. Should have been a free dessert or cocktail. Did not ask for it but come on. Nope, Nada nothing. It was we will do better for the next customers. Really. Guess it will not be us. read more

Monocacy crossing is a quaint restaurant located in a small house. They have a nice sized bar and area for high top tables. There are two other dining rooms. It was simple but very nice and comfortable. The menu had a nice variety of offerings but not usual fare, more upscale. We had the pecan crusted got cheese fritters in cranberry sauce which was absolutely amazing! For dinner we had the bacon wrapped beef medallions and shrimp and grits. Absolutely delicious This restaurant was recommended so we went for our 10 year anniversary. We had onion straws snack $5. These were fantastic Ahi tuna and hanger steak were delicious. The coconut curry rice was the star of the show for me. Coconut pound cake for dessert. So tasty Candece was truly a great server and knew the menu extensively she has great recommendations. They have a mini patio then a larger patio partially tented with string lights. Great ambiance. Patrick was our waiter and we loved him!!!! He told us the history of the restaurant and was super attentive. I had the Monoc Burger and it was amazing. The fries were spicy and delicious and the sauce that cones with the burger was so good. My mom had the Paparadelle with Bolognese sauce and the pasta was thin and light and the Bolognese was super fresh and seasoned well. We had their famous Coconut Cake for dessert and I can see why they are famous for it. The owners Mom makes that cake and no one should eat there without trying it. We plan to go back in the fall and will try other dishes as their menu is excellent and I will definitely call ahead to make sure we can get a table in Patricks section. read more

I visited for my birthday dinner with my family and this restaurant became my new favorite! Very friendly service and staff, nice bar, nice atmosphere, great food, and reasonable prices. We got so many dishes including appointments, snacks, main dishes, and dessert, and everything was so good except the shrimp and grits. The grits was great but the shrimp tasted off with its aftertaste (taste like dish soap) and a couple of people who tried also feel the same so we asked for change our dish. The staff was very quickly responded and we could swap it with another dish. (Thank you so much!) The best dish was hanger steak with potato straws, it was cooked perfectly and very delicious. We love coming to Monocacy Crossing because it's a quaint little restaurant tucked away on Route 355 with awesome food and ambiance. Today we had brunch with a party of 8 with call ahead reservations, and were seated promptly. The restaurant has been remodeled and updated so it has a nice upscale and trendy feel with a large bar seating area and outdoor patio. The food is excellent and the service was efficient. We started with appetizers and tried the fried deviled eggs, mussels in a white wine sauce, and the crab dip. All three appetizers were delicious. My favorite is definitely the crab dip. For main dishes, my husband ordered the Huevos Rancheros, which he had to add some Chalula sauce to add a kick of flavor and spice. The eggs were cooked perfect. Then I ordered the shrimp and cheddar grits with cherry tomatoes which was pretty tasty since the shrimp seemed fresh. Lots of flavors. My wife brought me here for my birthday. We made reservations for a Tuesday night. Plenty of people sitting outside, in the bar and the dining room. We sat in the dining room and tables were spaced apart for Covid. Our waitress was personable, pleasant and was on top of everything. Excellent service. The food was outstanding. I noticed that there was not salt or pepper at the table. Either that is being done because of Covid, or maybe more likely because the food is seasoned perfectly from the kitchen. Any good restaurant should not need to offer up salt and pepper and this was the case with our meals. We had an appetizer, 2 entrees and shared a dessert. Everything was excellent. It is a tough call to say if the service or the food was better, so I'll split it down the middle and say both were great.
