I do not understand the 3.5 average stars here. Today we visited for lunch and the Derby (we want to call it the Brown Derby), hit it out of the park. Everything we ordered was that good. Cocktails (decadent, I know) were hit-it-out-of-the-park delicious, and our meals were the best lunches we've had in quite a while. The kitchen can run circles aroind several more established venues in the region. The Rockfish Tacos and the Sunrise Burger, both simple could not be beat. Tasty homemade fries with just the right amount of seasoning. Nothing had ever seen the inside of a freezer and you could taste the difference. Our waitress Chandler (a female) was as rock-solid professional as they come. Ask for her. We cannot wait to return for dinner, as well as lunch again to work our way through the menu. One note on the costs here: the Derby is not a value proposition. Those searching for the $10 to $15 lunch may need to search elsewhere. Our two lunch entrees, two cocktals, taxes and generous tip for Chandler (meet her - you would too) set us back a little over $60. Be forewarned. It's worth it though.

This place is seriously awesome!!! My husband and I stopped here for lunch with our 2 kids after church one Sunday and we wish we could've stayed longer! They had live music on the back patio from 11-2 for "Sunday Funday" and the singer was legit good! The whole theme of the restaurant is super cool... I love the decor on the inside and the outside patio is super cute. Our server was super friendly and I was very grateful for the extra side of their homemade ranch that she gave me for my leftovers :) We were really impressed with our meals, as well as the looks of everyone's meals being delivered to the tables around us lol. Even our kids meals were great... the KIDS cheese pizza was huge AND yummy and our daughter's mac & cheese was definitely homemade. The Chicken Cobb Salad was very fresh with tons of avocado and I loved my shrimp salad wrap. The prices are very reasonable too for the amount of food you get. Where they "get you" though is with the cocktails (that have no prices on the menu). My mimosa was $12, which is high considering it was brunch. We were also bummed that we only got to experience the brunch menu since it was before 2pm on a Sunday but we will definitely be back soon (hopefully without kids! Ha!) to order off the full menu!

I only had breakfast there but it was very good and the restaurant was busy! Huge portions, good Bloody Mary and the sausage gravy was to die for.

Charming restaurant on Main Street in New Market! We dined on the back porch with our four legged friend. The staff was friendly and accommodating and brought our dog a water bowl. I ordered the California Chicken Wrap with $2 up charge for onion rings and my husband had the Mediterranean Veggie Wrap with Grilled Chicken add on. We both enjoyed our meals. They had a guitar player on Thursday night on the back patio with tables and umbrellas. The musician was very talented with a great set list.

This was my first visit to The Derby and I was very impressed. They had a lot of options on the menu and everything we ordered was wonderful. The server was so helpful with suggestions for our meal and the service was good. The cute historic building even has outdoor seating and even though it was rainy, we were able to sit on a covered porch. The salad and crab soup was so good with large portions. I highly recommend this great restaurant in New Market.

I can come down here every time I visit family in Maryland. The wings are delicious. The beers are cold. And the staff is very friendly. The pizza is good and the calzone is delicious. I haven't had a bad meal yet. The outdoor space in good weather is awesome as well. I will continue to go here when ever I get the chance. My wife likes the place a lot as well so that's a bonus.

The Derby has a variety of options without having an insanely long menu. Some of my favorites are the Cobb salad, mozzarella lancers, and the crabby pizza. Also, the macaroni salad is delicious! The location is great with a variety of seating including the separate bar area, indoor dining, outdoor deck dining, and outdoor patio dining. There's space and games for the kids to play, and there's ice cream out back! You'll regularly see the owners walking around checking to make sure their customers are enjoying their meal and experience. So awesome!

Food 10/10, outside space 6/10. I am not sure if I came to visit on an off day but I was disappointed with the overall cleanliness of the tables outside. The tables were very dirty, not wiped down at all- we cleaned the table ourselves when we sat down. At one point my brother in law accidentally spilled his drink on the table and an employee brought napkins to clean it up.. Now for the positives- the food is great! I LOVED the crab bruschetta and the crab dip was delicious. Their orange crushes are also great. There is so much potential for the Derby to be amazing! I hope they are receptive to the feedback and make some positive changes!

Pepperoni Pizza and fries. Not bad.

We were close to New Market today, so we decided to try The Derby, which we had wanted to do for a while now. After eating here, I'm wondering why we waited so long. We were promptly seated, and the food was EXCELLENT! We got the Crab Dip for an appetizer, which was tasty and the bread with it was amazing. I got the Chicken Parmesan with a Caesar salad and a side of their meatballs. My wife got the Chili Burger, which was huge and flavorful. Her side was potato salad, which was equally amazing. We got my son Pepperoni Pizza with fries, and it was also good. In addition to the food, the service was very good also. We have no complaints, and will definitely be back.

Sitting on the tented back porch! Can't wait until The Derby Cone ice cream is open for the season!

Made a reservation not like you really need one, but we made one and was seated down pretty quickly. The host was nice and friendly and the wait staff said hello to us within the five minutes of us seating. I appreciated how family-friendly this place was, they give these cute little animal boxes with different things inside and crayons to keep the kids entertained. The decoration is fun with a lot of outdoor vibes and stuffed real animals. They bring out a side of chip and a yogurt dill dip that's interesting, a fun idea. The food, mhm so we ordered a lot! Crab dip: 2.5/5 not too bad but not memorable, okay amount of crab, flavors were too heavy on the cream cheese/fillers but just okay, they need more bread with it but the chips helped. Prob wouldn't order again Crab cake: 3.8/5 pretty good size and good amount of crab and good flavor probably the best dish that we had ordered here! Would get again. Burger: 3/5 granted I did order this medium well for my kid, but the burger was charred a little too much around the burger, giving it a sort of dry crunch on the edges and charcoal burn vibes. Not my favorite texture that I would want on a burger, but perhaps it would've been different if I ordered a medium? Bread itself was a little stale/crunchy which I did not prefer how it was cooked/prepared. Overall, it was just okay. Ribs: 2.5/5 the ribs were half off ribs so I decided to go for it because of the good deal. But it was just okay, being that Blackhog barbecue is right next-door (thier dry rub ribs are amazing), I would hope that they would step up their barbecue rib game. For a " full rack" there were only nine bones and seemed a little smaller than what I'm used to. It's very heavy on the sauce which I didn't think was the best pairing and wasn't the best flavor bbq sauce. Overall, I wouldn't order it again. Steak kabob: 3.2/5 this was actually pretty tender for the cut of meat, I'm surprised that I didn't have to work for it so I was happy about that! The only criticism that we have is that the meat itself did not have that much flavor or seasoning and there's only one skewer of meat and one skewer of veggies. Meaning the total amount of meat that was probably on that dish was no more than 4 -5 ounces of steak. And for that price point, I would want a little bit more meat. Mac and Cheese: 3.5/5 pretty good for a kids Mac! Good cheese and flavor was impressed! Overall, the service and the host in the experience of being there was pretty good, but the food was a little lacking not sure if I would go again, but it was on our right experience in terms of food

My food did come out 15 minutes later than my pal. Was kinda weird. My only complaint is their service process. You have to go up and order at the bar your food and drink. Yep! Spent $50. They lose 2 stars for that alone. A restaurant/bar is about the food/drink and service. They only have half of that right. I hope they change this. I've been in the service industry most of my life and it's one of two things. 1. Servers/bartenders cannot handle doing both tasks. Or. 2. They're lazy and rather make you wait.

I drink unsweetened tea most of the time so I'm constantly waiting for a refill. The good ... the food is generally tasty. The Bad ... they are charging $32.00 for a 16oz ribeye. I know they use Mt Airy Meat locker for their beef. The steak was seasoned well but had a tiny sliver of a bone for what they called a bone in. Also .... The nickel and dining is ridiculous. You get one side. And they upcharge for mushrooms or onions. In comparison... Longhorn service a 20oz Ribeye with 2 sides and bread for $32.79 So I got the Ribeye and about 6 stalks of very tiny asparagus. I actually like the small asparagus but not 6 stalks??? As far as the steaks go ... don't give me the local meat BS or the cost for a small business. Side cost little ... salad and potatoes are cheap. We don't go to this place regularly because of this ... so we end up with a $72.00 bill (wife got a Cesar salad with shrimp) and seltzer water with a lime. Result ... have to make something to eat after we get home. After dropping nearly $90 after tip. My wife and I prefer to patronize local places but these owners are making it hard. I was going to order the chicken wings and a side salad .... But ...$24 for 12 half wings is beyond ridiculous. The wing shortage is over but many places are hanging on to the price increase ... I'd imagine because they think the customers are stupid. Out of curiosity... I shopped a pack of fresh wings at BJs wholesale club to see what wings are going for. The price for an 18 pack is around $8.00. And that would make 36 buffalo wings since you only get half. Disappointed... food that we did get was good ... but value is somewhere close to a zero!
