The worse Pad Thai I have ever eaten. Hands down. The entire dish was beige. Never in my life have I eaten completely beige Pad Thai. Beige noodles. Beige chicken. Beige bean sprouts. Beige sauce. Beige peanuts. Zero spice. Too sweet. Bland flavors. Mostly noodles and sprouts. Not much protein. Maybe it was an off night. But . . . blah. They brought some ground chilis, that added a touch of heat but that didn't add much flavor. I kept adding chilis. It didn't fix the underlying lack of flavor. Daughter got the drunken noodles. It definitely looked better than the Pad Thai. She said it was average at best. At least it had some color. We both ordered our dishes spicy and neither one had any spice. Like zero on a scale of 1 to 5. Both entrees were about $14. The salvation of the meal was the curry puff appetizer. They were really good. Savory filling in a flaky pastry crust. Like a Thai-chicken and curry empanada. So so so good. They were $8. Service was ok. There were only a few tables with patrons so that helped. The place is really cute, and they put a pitcher of water on the table along with nice water glasses. I just wish the food was spicy enough to need a lot of water. If I was scoring only for the Pad Thai, I'd give this a minus zero. With the curry puffs and the nice ambiance, I'm giving this a generous three stars. It should really be a two star review. That said, lots of people seem to have positive reviews. Maybe I just hit a bad night or a substitute cook. read more

I have to thank my daughter for the tip on dining at Jojo's. The food was so good, all I could think about the next day was going back, and I did so with takeout. All items were expertly cooked, and the flavor was so satisfying, hitting so many notes. All three at my table felt equally enthusiastic about the food. The restaurant is small (but they do a lot of takeout), so anticipate possibly waiting for a table. The time from ordering to receiving your order was quick. But the best part of the restaurant was the family that owns it. They were so nice and accommodating, hospitality at its finest. A great example, I was told my takeout order would be another 5-10 minutes, so I went outside to my car. The owner walked it out to my car. So gracious and positive. My wife and I were staying at nearby hotel so decided to try Jojo's. As we walked in we noticed the small dining area. The space was clean and staff were friendly and attentive. Most people coming in while we were there were picking up take out food. We sat and ordered an appetizer and two entrees. The only cons at least for me were the chairs and they don't serve cocktails. Honestly, the chair was extremely uncomfortable because they were like sitting on rocks. I kept squirming around because it was so uncomfortable. Overall the food was very good with exception of the Thai Ice Tea (watery). Overall the food and service was good so we would recommend. read more

We finally tried them out for takeout, before committing to a full dining experience, and now we cannot wait to return. The portions are generous, the prices are fair, and the food is delicious. Their food was one of the best Thai food I've had in the greater Portland area, which says a lot considering all of the incredible Thai restaurants nearby. The massaman curry was delicious and the drunken noodles were to die for. I ordered a spice level 4 and it was really spicy, just as expected. If you're not into spicy food, make sure you stick to a 1. The crab rangoons were hands down the best I've had in years. The curry puffs were good, but I think next time I'll just order more crab rangoons. The food was packed with care. When we picked it up we interacted with the staff and they were so friendly. Give yourself a delicious treat by going to Jojo's Thai Kitchen whenever possible. We live in Texas and were driving from Lubec, Maine to Portland to catch a plane home. We were tired from driving and hungry and this little restaurant impressed. I had the Mango Curry with tofu, spice level two and it was some of the best curry I've had in a long time, and I've patronized numerous Thai restaurants in several cities and towns. The tofu was perfection. My husband had the Massaman Curry, spice level four and he was very happy. The service was welcoming and knowledgeable. Family friendly! I wish we lived closer. We came from MA and wanted Thai food. What do we have here? This hidden gem of a family owned restaurant offered us the most amazing Thai food to go. Mind you it was a meal to go and we are raving about it and giving it five stars! What did they do well? Apps: Thai fried chicken wings. Crispy yumminess without overly dried meat. Dumplings great in their own. Scallion pancakes crispy and light. Entree: Drunken noodles spicy level 3. Well seasoned. Not overly saucy which was done correctly. Kat Soi noodle soup spicy level 4. Love it that they packed the curry soup separately from the noodles and veggies. Also the crispy noodles, tho packed in the same container as the boiled noodles, did not lose their crispiness. Based on three of the dishes (crab Rangoon, chicken pad Thai and pineapple rice), I would have rated it a 3.5. However, the sesame chicken was horrible which brings the rating down to a two. Jojo's, I am so glad you are here. I work in Scarborough, and it is severely lacking in diversity - with so many fast food and few vegetarian options. I've experienced Jojo's Thai Kitchen twice now - once as a take-out at work, and then last night for an early dinner with my husband. Both experiences were top-knotch. I had raved about the Pad See Ew so much to my husband that he knew precisely what he wanted. I was scrambling to make a decision - because A: I really don't know many Thai dishes, I know what I like and stick to it, and B: I'm incredibly indecisive. I chose Pad Wood Sen - it sounded nice. Ha. We also got an order of Fresh Rolls because we had no idea what that was. I've included photos - the rolls were indeed fresh. Lettuce, basil, rice wrap, cucumber and this great chili oil for dipping. Pad Wood Sen was a freaking delight. Tasted similar to Pad See Ew but with glass noodles. They gave me a ton. Fresh veggies and tofu were a perfect selection. I had to bring leftovers to work (which I'm eating as I type this.) Pad See Ew (heart eyes emoji) still has my heart. Wide noodles, sauce that hits every note in your soul, fresh steamed veggies and tofu - yes, sir. The restaurant was small but very clean, the staff are friendly and prompt. Scarborough has come up nothing, but excellent when it comes to cuisine. However... Jojo's disappointed. I ordered from the lunch menu. They do not have specials, but lunch portions. I tried the Basil Chicken with Rice & ordered the Tom Yum Soup. This was not the Pad Krapow Gai I expected. Usually, Thai Basil Chicken is spicy, very tasteful, the basil overpowers the chicken, yet somehow complements it all at the same time. The rice ties it in together and it all just melts beautifully when ingested. Instead, I literally had a chicken stir fry, with basically 2 basil leaves. To replace the copious amounts of basil, bell peppers and onions took its place. The Tom Yum was not what I am used to either. OK, we ordered from Jojos again a couple of times recently. Lo and behold, the food was quite good again! Hooray! BUT... something was wrong, very wrong... SHRINKFLATION! The portion size of the four different entrees was significantly less than in the past. Dear God, even the small containers of RICE were not completely filled! I don't know about you, but if I'm springing for Thai food--which is already not exactly cheap--I'd much rather spend a couple dollars more to get a more generous sized portion. Jojo's, you blew it. And mark my words: this business decision will come back to haunt you, when the rest of your regular customers get wise to this practice. May God have mercy on your soul. read more

I stopped by with a group of three for dinner and we were seated and had our food brought out within 20 minutes of being in the door. The food was fresh, authentic, and inexpensive. If I lived in the area this would be a frequent place to get takeout or to dine-in. The seating inside is best for smaller groups. Maybe up to a party of six. It's a smaller authentic Thai family business so it's probably not best suited for a rowdy crowd. The staff was sweet and very nice. The owner himself came out and helped bring us our food. The woman who took my payment was giving a male staff member a hard time literally while I was right there. Once he went back into the kitchen, she went on to tell me "how stupid" he is and how "he never has any idea what he is talking about" and huffing and puffing.
