I've been dinning at Pom's Thai for years. I would order take out and dine in. In the past I have left them several five star reviews but recently deleted them due to being confronted by one of the owners. My family came to Portland to visit and wanted Thai food, so I brought them to Pom's Thai for some wonderful Thai food! The two women who work here were incredibly rude to my family. I was horrified. So I wrote about that experience in my review only to be confronted by one of the women who work there as I was dinning there (yes) again (I wanted to give them a second chance since the food is good). I ordered the Kuay-Teow Medium Rice Noodle, Shrimp & Vegetables, in Clear chicken broth. I would have much rather of had an Instant Noodle Cup! I have gotten the same in the past (over a year ago) and it was quite good, but this time it was terrible! The "Broth" tasted like hot water with pepper flakes, no chicken flavor or other spices what so ever. If I had microwaved a Ramen Cup and dumped a couple of shrimp and some vegetables in it, it would have tasted 10 times better than whatever they served me. I know times are tough, raise your prices if you have to, but don't serve me a something so bland that I wished I had a spice packet left over from a pack of instant ramen, just so that I can make it palatable. read more

Portland Food Fights Lord of the Wings Challenge stop #4. The South Portland location has a large sign hanging outside Dine In resumes 06/14/21. Well I believe with the recent updates there is no indoor dining. You can pickup only at their entrance. You call it in in order online. The Wings are plain but very crispy. Thru came with a yummy thai sweet & sour (not the Chinese red sauce). The sauce was a nice addition making for a sweet glaze on the wing. We even noticed they put a notch in the takeout lid to help keep the Wings crispy. I have not eaten any of their Thai meals from the menu as this was my first visit but they sounded great and I'll be back. They are not too far from the Maine Mall...on back street behind where Sea Dogs, El Rodeo and Harbor Freight are. Same center as Moe's BBQ. Plenty of free parking. read more

Very large portions - oftentimes dinner for one night and lunch for the next day. My personal favorite thing to get is the mango shrimp rice and the assorted teas I have tried are yum. The location is not as great as the previous old port location but it's all the same stuff. The inside is your standard Thai restaurant. It's not a large staff so don't expect to rush in and out but it's tidy and standard and definitely worth trying out. read more

I ordered takeout from Pom's Thai last night. My wife is on a special diet and got the chicken katsu, which is described as coming with "vegetable lomein" and having "sauce on the side." We also selected "no spicy" when ordering. We asked for it without lomein, as she just wanted the plain chicken katsu. However, when we opened the dish, it was filled with vegetables and had plenty of sauce. I suppose "vegetable lomein" means vegetables AND lomein to them. Ugh. Normally, I would overlook a mistake due to a language barrier, but I don't know, when it comes in a pool of liquid, THAT'S A SAUCE. Don't say that the sauce is on the side, if there's ALSO A SAUCE in the dish. And if a customer orders something "no spicy," then maybe DON'T PUT A BUNCH OF PEPPERS IN IT. The result is that my wife was not able to eat the dish. I called to complain, but they insisted that the sauce was on the side. Pepper liquid doesn't count! read more

I believe I stopped in at this Pom's restaurant many years ago with a slew of cranky kids and have not returned since. I have no idea why, but after a wonderful dinner here last week with my husband, I realized, I really should have returned sooner. We decided to go with an all appetizer and dessert meal We started with: Chicken sate-solid, loved the peanut sauce Fresh spring roll (shrimp)-our only disappointment, while fresh and tasty, a VERY small serving Kat Tong Thong-delicious, in a delicate and crispy nest Chicken and peanut dumplings-excellent flavor Thai empanadas-delicate pastry filled with pork and taro-fantastic We were not going to order dessert, yet got really intrigued by the pumpkin custard listed on the back of the menu. Such a mixed bag here. I took my wife and two grown daughters here for lunch. The girls ordered pad si ew and I ordered the spicy fried rice. The girls thought their dishes were "pretty good". I found my dish to be neither "spicy" or "fried". The rice was fluffy as if it was steamed, not fried. The menu gave this dish a two "chili" rating but I found that the heat was almost imperceptible...... not pleased. The service was simultaneously very friendly and ridiculously amateurish. The waiter recognized I had completed my meal and asked if he could take my plate. I said, "yes". He then stood next to my wife for approximately 30 seconds as she completed her lunch. As soon as she took her last bite he asked her if he could take her plate. She couldn't even answer because her mouth was full. This was not an isolated incident... the whole meal was marked with a pleasant staff that made the experience very awkward with their clumsy service. Bottom line the food was decent, the staff was friendly but I am not sure I will be back considering all of the excellent Thai restaurants in the Portland area. read more

I've been to this restaurant a few times and I always have a pleasant experience. I love Thai food so We chose to spend our last dinner in Maine at this resto and couldn't be more happier. The Panang Curry (Tofu) and Pad See Ew (Beef) were delicious. The food wasn't oily at all. One of the few Thai places I've been that doesn't drown your food with oil. The service was amazing too. Our waiter lost the order form and apologized for the long wait. We really didn't mind the wait but he was very kind to offer us a complimentary non-alcoholic drinks. This is the best Thai I have had in this area. Very fresh and the seasoning is spot on ! It can be prepared mild to spicy! The curry is very authentic in flavor. I have tried many dishes here and found they all seem to carry the best aromatic smells and flavors . The staff seem friendly when I pick up orders to go ! When ordering delivery it takes forever! So patience must be your strong suit when wanting delivery. I haven't eaten inside so don't know the Ambiance. But really enjoy the food. read more

I would highly discourage coming to this place. The customer service is awful and the pad Thai we had uncooked chicken. They are also very cheap and even told us to throw away an Starbucks cup that we had with little coffee to finish up. The other food we tried was also mediocre. read more

I have shellfish allergies. (Yes, I'm a Mainer that cant enjoy lobster, shrimp etc. Poor me.) So I tend to order pad Thai without shrimp or fish sauce (don't want to take that fun trip to the ER). This place always is very good about whatever accommodations I request. I ordered take out two nights ago and they were pretty amazing with the social distancing. They had me call when I got there, they came out and sat my food on a table and motioned for me to pick up. I was pretty impressed they respected my health along with the health of their employees. Enjoyed a late lunch getting take out at Pom Thai located on Western Avenue in South Portland. My family all order one type of Pad Thai. I got my standard noodle dish, vegetable and I certainly wasn't disappointed. It was loaded with different kinds of veggies like red peppers, mushrooms, carrots, scallions and my favorite those little pieces of corn, right! Remember the movie, Big staring Tom Hanks. It was delicious! My wife ordered, for the first time the Crab Pad Thai and loved it and was very pleased to find out it was made with real crab meat and not that artificial stuff. She wished it had a bit more. My son went for the Shrimp Pad Thai and was very pleased. His wife ordered her Pad Thai with chicken and enjoyed it as well. So, my recommendation if you are ever near South Portland and want a fantastic Thai experience then you must put Pom Thai on the top of your list of places to eat. Enjoy! read more

I'm not sure what to rate them. The food is good. However, I went there with friends who have brown skin, I'm white, and the staff was extremely rude to my friends. It was obvious and maddening. I don't think anyone should act the way they did, especially if they're serving the public! I would not recommend them. Terrible experience! It was our first visit so based on previous reviews, I am hoping this was just a one off. We arrived a little before 6pm and waited a good 5-10 mins to be acknowledged and seated. The restaurant was fairly empty. Our order wasn't taken until about 20 mins later. We got the sampler platter for 2 and I ordered a stir fry and my husband ordered crab meat pad Thai. The appetizer took about 20 mins and was not good or worth it at all (see pic). After about 50 Mins I asked where the entrée was because we needed to leave for the airport for a 830 flight. The server just walked away without acknowledging my question. Meanwhile it's getting busy as people are coming in and standing around waiting for pick up orders or to be seated. A couple walked out after waiting about 15 mins without being acknowledged. Two other ladies left their table after their order hadn't been taken after 20 mins. One guy said he ordered on door dash and had been waiting 45 mins for his food after he showed up on the assigned time. It was a complete mess!! We told the server we needed to leave and to just charge us for the appetizer. She came back 10 mins later with the food but brought the wrong dish for my husband. We told her to pack mine because we had no more time or we would miss our flight. They did pack both dishes but only charged for mine and the app. As I was eating at the airport, I found a hair in my food. My husband never touched his because it wasn't the correct dish. I visit Maine often and will definitely not return to this restaurant. Very disappointed! read more

We ordered takeout for two adults and two children. My daughter had the Pad Thai with crispy tofu and she loved it! The portion was a good size for two meals. I ordered the appetizer for one and it was amazing! Loved the onion rings and all the samples of chicken. Huge onion ring fan! The kids both ordered chicken nuggets with fries. They enjoyed the nuggets but didn't touch the fries; bland crinkle cut. For $9.95 each, next time we'll stop at McDonald's and get a Happy Meal. Make sure to grab utensils/napkins on your way out. Food: The food here was mostly good. My table split the crab rangoon, pork dumplings, and squid and vegetable tempura. The crab rangoon was delicious. The crab mix on the inside had a great mix of flavors and wasn't just a boring blob of cream cheese. The sauce it was served with was also so tasty and I would be happy to buy a bottle of it. The dumplings were a bit bland for my taste. Most of the flavor came from cooked garlic that was sprinkled on top of the dumplings rather than from the filling in them. The vegetable tempura was perfectly cooked. it came of blazing hot and perfectly crispy golden brown. The one downside was the squid. The tempura was still cooked perfectly but the squid on the inside was VERY over cooked and so chewy it was hard to bite through at times. Some of the food here was great while some was nearing bad so I plan on returning and sampling some other dishes. I'm hoping that the bad dishes were just an off day because the menu here is extensive and filled with things that sound great. Service: The service here was great. The server was attentive without hovering and was very polite. Ambience: The restaurant was lovely. The tables were nicely spaced out. The interior was stylishly decorated. read more

Experience was VERY good and I mean it. As pretentious as this may sound, I almost never eat at other Thai restaurants outside of NYC and that of my own father's Thai restaurant out of fear that the food would not be up to par. We weren't even planning on coming to this restaurant, but we came here because the Chinese restaurant next to it did not have dine-in seating and I'm so glad we ate here. I got Rad Nar and my friend got fried chicken. Rad Nar was very authentic with the right sticky and glossy soup. The chicken was tender and the vegetables were fresh. My friend's fried chicken was seasoned properly and very crispy. Service was highly highly attentive and polite. Too bad we had to rush our meal to make our Amtrak train. This place is great! I placed an order on Door Dash and was very pleased. The sauce used on the Pad Thai is phenomenal, and I also recommend going in for a sit-down dinner if you have the time. The atmosphere isn't too bad! I took a chance yesterday and strayed away from my normal Pad Thai dish to try Crispy Pad Thai. It wasn't at all what I was expecting, but it was pleasant! The noodles are thin and crunchy, there are zero soft, traditional noodles like a normal Pad Thai dish. The dish is also more saucy than a traditional Pad Thai dish, as the thin crunchy noodles do not absorb the sauce. This restaurant is well worth 5 stars! The choices for vegan and gluten free are phenomenal! The restaurant is very clean, tidy and well maintained. I'm really picky about where I eat and have been known to walk out after being seated. Back to the food! It's really good. One of us is gluten free and the other is vegan and we had plenty of options. If you're a meat eater - even more choices! The service is excellent as well. We had an all around good experience here! It would a regular place to eat out if we lived locally. We highly recommend eating here. Ask the amazing server for help with the menu and you will be happy with her suggestions. Went with my mom for some lunch on a Wednesday. The place was pretty empty, so we were served quickly. We looked forward to coming here due to their menu having the vegan duck option. I'd read in other reviews that the were very accommodating for vegans. Well, it turns out that's pretty subjective. I tried ordering different items on the vegetarian menu, but they unfortunately had brown sauce as an ingredient. Brown sauce has fish and oyster. The server essentially implied that the vegetarian sauce was there only one we could get. As a result, it took us some time to determine what we wanted. In all I ended up getting vermicelli noodles with their vegetarian sauce. It was good. Not spectacular, but good. read more
