The prices are WILDLY great - they never took advantage of the "covid price hike" as so many other businesses did. I have been here numerous times for take out. They have a no nonsense menu of classic "American" Asian foods like fried rice and pad thai for very reasonable prices and great quantities. I come here particularly for the rice dishes because they make them to taste as you would expect! They don't do anything fancy or special but there's enough of that in Portland tbh Atmosphere is fun with a counter to order but also an Asian grocery store with 2 aisles. Parking is street parking nearby (no dedicated parking lot) - but I've never had trouble finding a spot I will definitely be back to get comfort food vibe Asian food for prices that are very reasonable. My boyfriend and I stayed here in Maine for a few days, and surprisingly Vientiane Market was one of my top places that we ate at! Due in huge part to the Yum Nua! This was the first time I had tried that dish, and it was absolutely incredible. It had an incredibly nuanced flavor profile with spice, some zing, and saltiness. The portion was quite large but still easy to finish due to how delicious it was. LOL! The only sad part was that the Drunken Noodle was much too sweet, which is not what I am typically used to. Tom Yum was nice and warm with a pleasant taste. Not my favorite Tom Yum but still very comforting. The staff there were very kind and sweet. Many people appeared to have ordered take out, but if you decide to eat there like us, then there are a few tables for you to choose from. Overall, great food for a great price! Craving Thai and a quick grab and go. Got the pad Thai, drunken noodle, red curry and Tom kha. The prices are great, portions good as well. The only disappointment was the drunken noodle- they use a dried noodle and not fresh rice noodle which impacts the texture and the flavor. Minus that, the drunken noodle was not what we are used to but not in a bad way. The chicken pad Thai didn't have much chicken, but great flavor, lots of bean sprouts but a tad skimpy on the green onions. Tom kha was very good as well. Red curry lots of fresh veggies too. All this for under $50, it was quick and ready in under 20 mins. Not the best Thai but it was good for price, portion and connivence read more

Didn't feel like cooking dinner and so I stopped at Vientiane on my way home from work. It's on my way home every day but I haven't been here in several years. I got the drunken noodles with chicken, something I often get at Thai restaurants. The price is on the low side compared to other places. Service was very, very quick. The food - I am eating it as I type - is really good. I think the sauce in the dish is usually a salty, soy-based sauce, which I like. But this is served with a fruity, somewhat spicy sauce. It's nice to try something different, though I think in the end I prefer the version I am used to. read more

This is my local thai takeout. It is THE BEST. I've been going here for over 30 yrs. Very much a local favorite. Very fresh ingredients cooked to order and reasonably priced. Order your food no higher than medium spicy unless you genuinely have a high spice tolerance- they will take you to your limit! Whilst waiting for your order, you can browse the limited market space for select spices, pastes, dry and canned goods for cooking Thai dishes at home. We have seen this place for years and are bummed it took us so long to order from here. This was some of the best Thai food we have had. The drunken noodles were delicious with just a slightly different taste to the sauce and not too spicy. The crab rangoon were yummy and the spring rolls were fresh. I'm very disappointed in the food at this establishment. I ordered crab Rangoons, pad Thai, fresh spring rolls, and Pad se ew. The crab Rangoons were over cooked and the crab meat was not very good. The pad thai was so fishy tasting I had to drown it in lemon juice to eat it. I ended up throwing half of it away. The pad se ew was dry, and bland. Completely trash. The fresh spring rolls were good. The prices were more affordable than other Thai restaurants, but I guess it's true. You get what you pay for. read more

A combination market and restaurant with just a couple tables. I've been twice (in a week) and both times I've been so pleased. I used to live in Thailand and this tastes so authentic. I had the Tom Ka soup and chicken satay- both outstanding. Chicken tender and well spiced. Second trip I had the massaman curry with shrimp and Thai rolls Both delicious. I liked also that the portions didn't overwhelm so didn't overstuff myself or waste anything. Perfect. The lady who waited on me said her favorite was the Pad Thai so looking forward to trying it this week. This place is so small that I nearly drove right past it! Being that it on the corner of a split intersection, however, made it stand out. I decided to order a chicken pad thai and tofu tom yum soup for my first try. I called and placed an order for takeout, which took 15 minutes (not bad). Luckily, on the left and right side of the shop, there's a 15-minute street parking space for about 2 cars each, so 4 spots total. The food was inexpensive and piping hot! I ran home quickly to eat my dinner and was very happy with what I got. The tom yum has a little spicy kick to it (I could've handled much more heat than that but that's okay) and the broth was flavorful. The only negative thing was that the tofu was super dry and didn't soak up any of the broth so it stayed dry. The color of the pad thai made me feel disappointed at first since it seemed like there wasn't much sauce in it. I was wrong! I don't know how they did it but there was plenty of flavor and sauce in the noodles even though I couldn't see it. Usually, pad thai sauce is a thick brown color but you don't see that here. It ended up being too much food for me and I ate the 2nd half of the pad thai the next day! I'll be back to try other things for sure! read more

Wow, This is the real deal. I've paid $15 for good Pad Thai before. But then I found Vientien. For just $7.50, she makes a Pad Thai that's really good in my humble opinion. I've gotten it 4 times now. I'm a big hungry guy and I'm never dissapointed with the portion. It's sweet and slightly tangy with a lighter color sauce. I do 2 star, its right on the border of almost too hot but not quite. I usually pull right over to the side of the road and pound it before I go home. It's that good ;) Other than the Crab Rangoons and the Chicken Sai Thai, which were okay, I haven't tried as much of Vientien's menu as I would like. The staff is pleasant. The store is neat. Its super easy to access. Easy parking. And the Pad Thai is exactly what Im looking for when I want something with real flavor. This is a truly amazing spot my partner and I happened upon. The food here is so reasonably priced, quickly served, and tastes authentic. We tried the tom kar soup, Bangkok, and Pad See Ew and all dishes were out of this world. The meat was tender, the sauces were complex and not overly salty or sweet, and our stomachs felt great after dinner.
