Dark, flickering lights. We couldn't tell if the place was open or not. We were the only customers for a minute and felt very weird. Not very welcoming and the food was garbage. This was our first experience at an African restaurant and needless to say, it fell short. We still tipped and took the food in to-go bags to be respectful but we'll need another experience to make up for this one. IF U ARE HUNGRY DONT GO HERE. This wait here is unbelievable even when the restaurant is empty. Most times u walk in and there is no one to take ur order or seat u or welcome you until 15mins later some will eme from the back kitchen. Ask you what u want then disappear for another 10 mins only to return to tell u she is still checking if they have the food u want. And ask for ur patience while she goes away for another 10 to check again if they have the food. Then return to tell u they don't have it. After 35 mins wait. SO BASICALLY IT TAKES 35min to find out if a meal the put up in the menu is available. You have a menu and don't have the food available and need 35 to check and tell the customer it's not available in a restaurant with only four customers and almost empty. The food is good but overpriced. I get the rice and stew as well as the peppered snail. No complaints. The service is terrible and the location is terrible. This is a pick and go place so there is no indoor seating. The ambiance is unattractive but I don't expect much. read more

This is the first west African restaurant I tried in the DMV area. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food. My favorite was the spinach stew. It was very tasty and the okra stew was also pretty good. My cousin enjoyed her jollof and baked chicken. I wasn't a fan of the egusi. I've personally had better tasting egusi so I won't be ordering it again. I will definitely try all the other stews on the menu. This restaurant doesn't have a sitting area but apparently is coming soon. The African lady that took our order was nice but somehow unhelpful when my cousin was unsure at how to order the food. I literally had to step in and explain how the jollof and chicken came lol. Her demeanor was kind of like "what are you even trying to say?" Besides that I think it's a nicely operated restaurant and don't have any complaints. Update 1: I went back on a Saturday and the restaurant was in chaos. The food is normally good. I usually get jollof rice, goat, egusi, cassava, and fufu. However, their plantains aren't ripe so I stay away from them. The service is HORRIBLE. The wait is ridiculous. They say 20 minutes, you give them 30 mins. Then they say 5 more minutes, then 7 more minutes until it's 45 to an hr later and you finally get your food with no apology. read more

We waited over an hour for three items. I was disappointed in the service and the quality of food for the price. We ordered the Jollof with stew chicken, plantains on the side, Egusi with fried fish and Chicken shawarma. There was a hotdog in the chicken shawarma! A whole hotdog! I nearly lost it. Yes, the wait time is long. Order ahead of time. At least 30 minutes. However, when I think of pepper soup I think of here. Other than my mothers own recipe this one captured my heart. I had a very bad flu a few months ago. My sister brought me this pepper soup, and some other home remedies. I cannot confidently say this was the sole reason my fever broke but it was the only thing I was able to consume. The herbs & spices was all the flavor I needed. And just the right amount of heat! I honestly was disappointed. The wait was extremely long even though I ordered online. I was still waiting for 30 minutes after I got there. Other people said they were waiting over an hour. The place was over capacity, which is terrible bevause COVID. It was so disorganized, the staff couldn't keep up with the orders. Onto the food, I got the pounded yam and egusi. The pounded yam was extremely lumpy. The egusi was missing so much flavor! Sadly the worst egusi I've ever had. For something that was $18, I expected so much better. I ordered takeout and unfortunately, it was a terrible experience. The customer service was very poor, and the food was tasteless. I've been a customer for years, but this time was disappointing. I ordered the bitterleaf and edikiakong soup with assorted meat, but received two large, bony pieces of tough cow foot and a small, tough piece of meat in each. They seemed to have been cooked separately and added in later. It feels like a complete waste of money, and I won't be returning after this experience. If I could give zero stars I would! This restaurant is great if you're really craving Nigerian good and need a quick fix. Their jollof rice and their assorted meats are pretty solid and my favorite. Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of their swallow food. The okra soup smelled and tasted like vomit and I was very disappointed esp since I like their jollof rice. I'll also echo other reviewers's comments regarding the wait. If they do phone order and online order only, that'll help a lot. when they said food will be ready in 20, add another 10-20 mins to that.. truly on African time! I ordered rice and ọbẹ ata and it was delicious and spicy. That was a doordash order. I'm Nigerian, Yoruba and I like spicy food and it was perfection. That being said, the customer service could use some work. It would really help to have each customer attended to as they come in so the customer knows the status of their order but I understand that's a resource the business cannot afford. Also, I placed a GrubHub pickup order and it wasn't until I got there and waited about 10-20 minutes before the restaurant informed me that they didn't have what I ordered. Now that is fine to not have the food available. What wasn't fine was the person I was speaking with ended it at "we don't have it" rather than ask if I'd like to order something else or list out what else they have. read more

Friendly staff, but that's about all. The food is way over priced compared to other Nigerian restaurants in the area. The Jollof Rice tasted like it had been warmed in a high powered microwave. You could taste and smell the electricity in it. The beef was old and dry, and so were the plantains. I wish these Nigerian restaurants would stop using microwaves to heat the food. We can tell!!! The Suya was decent. Unfortunately I found myself on the toilet several times the next day. $50 for dry plantain's, microwaved rice and old dry tough beef, along with Suya is ridiculous. Stew with White Rice; Walked in Saturday a little after 6pm, placed my order for "White rice & stew" per the menu. Only the menu and the tv display menu price listed was $14.99 for beef or chicken stew. I place my order and she asked my meat option, which I chose "chicken"....Turns out they have increased prices, therefore my 14.99 chicken stew was now $18.99 (per my receipt), initially confused But I simply repeated my order and paid. I just got off work & didn't have the energy! My order was ready fairly quickly, probably sooner than the 15mins she had quoted... Okay so I get home, open my order & see what I paid for $20.13 (after taxes), oily tomato paste and brown rice! Which I like brown rice but for $20 and the small portion/serving size of the sauce they provide. At least give your customers white rice, I would say atleast let me enjoy the small stew in luxury(white rice) lol. Nothing was enjoyable about the stew anyways so yea. It's like they blended onions/tomato/peppers to water consistency added A lot of tomato paste let it simmer & called it a day. That's it, it taste sour as hell but how could it not lol. Maybe I ordered the wrong item I-D-K oh but there was so little effort on that "stew", a simple dish I'm deterred. Printing 1-2 menus & laminating them to post up would cost you very little, updating the tv PowerPoint display would cost u even less.
