Jollof with baked chicken and plantain
    Tifani M.

This is the first west African restaurant I tried in the DMV area. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food. My favorite was the spinach stew. It was very tasty and the okra stew was also pretty good. My cousin enjoyed her jollof and baked chicken. I wasn't a fan of the egusi. I've personally had better tasting egusi so I won't be ordering it again. I will definitely try all the other stews on the menu. This restaurant doesn't have a sitting area but apparently is coming soon. The African lady that took our order was nice but somehow unhelpful when my cousin was unsure at how to order the food. I literally had to step in and explain how the jollof and chicken came lol. Her demeanor was kind of like "what are you even trying to say?" Besides that I think it's a nicely operated restaurant and don't have any complaints. Update 1: I went back on a Saturday and the restaurant was in chaos. It was people everywhere waiting for their food and they ran out of everything I went to order or even attempted to try for the first time. The okra stew second time round was very watery. Go on the weekday for a better experience and more options. Avoid the weekend

    Chicken Shawarma

We waited over an hour for three items. I was disappointed in the service and the quality of food for the price. We ordered the Jollof with stew chicken, plantains on the side, Egusi with fried fish and Chicken shawarma. There was a hotdog in the chicken shawarma! A whole hotdog! I nearly lost it. There was a few pieces of shredded chicken in the shawarma but it was mostly hot cabbage and hotdog. The Jollof tasted burnt and the egusi was ok. I did enjoy the pounded yam. It tasted really fresh.

I didn't realize where the restaurant was located beforehand, so I was a little surprised when I arrived. It's in a very urban area, which may or may not matter depending on your comfort level. There was a decent amount of seating inside if you choose to dine in. The restaurant was okay in terms of cleanliness, but personally, I'd opt for takeout. I originally planned to eat inside but changed my mind once I got there. Unfortunately, the customer service wasn't the best. I wasn't greeted when I walked in, and when I received my order, the takeout container wasn't fully closed and was placed halfway into the bag. I'm not sure if it was just an oversight, but it didn't leave the best first impression. Now, the food, that's where they won me over. Everything was well-seasoned, and the suya had just the right amount of spice. They were out of the vegetable I originally wanted, but I'm actually glad I tried the corn because it was absolutely delicious. And that suya butter sauce? It was the star of the meal! Overall, while the location and customer service weren't my favorite, the food was flavorful enough that I'd come back if I were in the area and craving suya.

This won't be my top pick. The price was like $24.99 for each entree and I feel like you can get other nicer restaurants in the area for better pricing and quality. Coming from one West African to another. The food doesn't have any spice a mild flavor. They give you pepper sauce on the side. The ambiance is very casual!

The juice was great, the ginger tasted of great quality and was very spicy, but was mellowed by the pineapple. They sell other juices in bottles at the counter as well. The food on the other hand was a little disappointing. The okra soup came with rice, the soup, and a small dish of pepper sauce. The rice was very hard and dry, which made it difficult to chew. The flavor of the soup was okay, but there was a lot of bone fragments and a thick layer of oil on top, which I wasn't a fan of. The pepper sauce was very good though, it was extremely spicy and had an addicting flavor. If they sold a jar of it, I would buy it. If I came again, I would try their other juices, but probably skip the food.

From the moment we walked in, the service was great and you can tell that they care about their customers. The African decor is also very beautiful! Something fun to look at every corner. As for the food, we got the Okra Soup with paneer and fufu, Chicken Chu and Jollof. It was my first time trying fufu and I really enjoyed it. I had a recent dental procedure that prevented me from being able to chew so it was honestly the perfect meal for me, as traditionally you're supposed to swallow the fufu. My husbands chicken chu was very flavorful and totally new to us. As for the jollof I felt it was lacking a bit of flavor and the grains of rice were a bit too el dente for my personal liking. I have had jollof at other places that I liked a bit more. Overall great spot! I love trying new West African restaurants and would recommend this to others!

HATED IT then, but I gave it another shot (well, many now), and I'm so glad I did. Recently went there for lunch and did takeout of what I enjoy the most: white rice and stew with chicken and spinach (nothing spicy, please). The portions are LARGE; the food is well seasoned and very tasty. The location is within a mall, decor is takeout style, nothing spectacular. It's a small place with a huge sign. I usually take my food to go. They have small eating tables inside and outside (inside the mall) if that makes sense. Their service is decent. They always allow me to test some items to ensure it's not too spicy. They are nice, not welcoming, but not mean. Their faces always have a perplexed look like they are trying to figure you out and not judge you (scrunched up face). As you're ordering, you can also take a quick peek behind the staff serving you to see what and how they cook the food. I like that. You pay behind a glass wall, but they bring your food out directly through a side door. Overall, this place deserves 5 stars!

Ah ah so THIS is what we are doing now in the DMV? But seeing them attempt this buffet concept for Valentine's Day, Easter Sunday (when I went), and now again for Mother's Day this Sunday? I actually respect the initiative Everybody is always shouting rubbish this ____, and rubbish that ___ meanwhile OUR OWN cultural foods are sitting right here in Silver Spring looking delicious and full of flavor. When I say all the staples were THERE, I mean THEY WERE THERE Amala Moi moi Pepper soup Jollof rice Fried rice Everything hot, fresh, flavorful and tasting like somebody's mother entered that kitchen with warning And can we discuss the drinks please?? Non alcoholic but SWEET, refreshing and pairing perfectly with all the food. Very family friendly atmosphere too. You can bring auntie, uncle, cousins, everybody Now let me tell the truth small because you know I don't lie for reviews The wait time? Hmmm. Table organization? They can improve that one too because people were kinda just standing around confused at moments. BUT no wahala this is still a new venture for them and honestly I can already see the vision. The most important thing for me? Their service was AMAZING and they accepted feedback very well instead of doing attitude. That part matters. I actually want to see this succeed because we need more innovative African food experiences in the DMV that push our cuisine to the forefront instead of acting like only tacos and burgers exist outside Jollof Etc Silver Spring, Maryland

I would recommend trying the Silver Spring location where the receptionist/hostess is far more polite, respectful, and committed to finding a resolution.
