This is the Chicken and Jollof rice, just a sample plate.

I had the pleasure of meeting the owner/chef of Jollof Kitchen and you can taste the love the food is prepared with. The flavor is fortified and complex in the mos delicious way. It is undeniably low and slow build and development of flavor. It's the bite you take and your entire body experiences it! I can not say enough about how delicious the food here is the rice is cooked to perfection it is not over or undercooked it is bursting with flavor, the chicken is tender falling off of the bone. Chef Kimmie is guided by the ancestors in her preparation of this food from the gods.

Finally got to try this place! They were in the San Jose Jazz Festival, and i ordered a combo of the spinach and chicken. The tablet mentioned no beans was included but noticed I got beans anyways which made me happy. It's a lot of food packed into the container! The jollof rice is smokey, and i really enjoyed the spinach paired with it. Next time I would ask for hot sauce!

With an abundance of taco trucks, it's refreshing to find some Nigerian food. As the name implies, the focus seems to be around Jollof Rice with various protein pairing options. Haven't had much Nigerian food before, but left a fan. Jollof Rice w/ Chicken: 1 chicken leg, 4 pieces of plantains and a bunch of rice. It's super tasty. The jollof rice had a nice smoky and tomato-y flavors, with undertones of other great spices going on. The chicken leg had nice firm edges, like it was BBQed just right, with a tasty red sauce on top. The plantains were sort of sweet. Very satisfying, albeit quite carby. Vegetarian Jollof Rice: No meat, but still managed to be $23 when all was said and done. I heard other people complain that the goat was really tough, so glad I went veggie this time. The jollof rice was smoky delicious as always. The spinach was really good too, like how did they get so much flavor in that? And the protein was black eyed peas with nice flavoring. Plus a few fried plantains for a sweet edge. A really good mix of flavors and no tough meat to gnaw on!

Why this place has less than 100 reviews is beyond me. As the good people of the Bay Area like to say, Jollof Kitchen "smacks." I walked by their truck today and felt tempted to try it out. It seems like Jollof has been all the rage these past few years, but I never got around to trying it. The 20 dollar price point almost scared me away, but I'm glad it didn't. I got the veggie plate with jollof, plantains, and spinach. In less than 10 minutes, my order came out, loaded past the brim! The chef clearly cares about not only the portion but the presentation, which can only be described as a brilliant array of yellow, red, and orange. As for the taste, it was equally brilliant. The plantains were phenomenal. Lightly crispy on the outside and perfectly moist, I could have eaten ten of these. While I am not a fan of spinach, it was well cooked and flavorful. The rice was rich and tomato packed. The flavors are not overpowering, but all individually distinguishable. My favorite thing was the fact that you can taste almost each grain of rice, meaning it was well washed beforehand. But my favorite part was the beans. Each one seemed to carry a microcosm of the dish itself: comforting, buttery, rich, slightly sweet, tomatoey, and well salted. They strike this perfect balance between adding their own flavor while soaking up the flavors from the rice and sauce. By the end, I was full and ready to nap; a testament to any meal done right. As I like my food spicy, I do have one small request. I wish they let you pick a spice level as a little more kick would truly this make it exceptional. In short, I believe Jollof Kitchen justifies their prices with portions that match. I couldn't have asked for a better introduction to Jollof. Thank you Jollof Kitchen!

My first time trying Nigerian food and it was so good! The Jollof Kitchen food truck was at the Tavaral Night Market in SF so had to check it out since they're usually in Oakland. I got the jollof rice, chicken and plantain plate. The jollof rice and chicken had so much flavor! And the plantains were sweet and the ends were a little bit crispy, it was so good. Great meal, I really enjoyed it.

I was excited to see a food truck with Nigerian food. I ordered the beef, jollof and plantains and the taste of the rice was smokey and delicious. There is cow skin (ponmo) in some of the beef dishes. The food wasn't hot at all when I got it so this is always a major let down. Especially when you're excited to grub down so it made me wonder how long it had been out of the hot temperature. The beef was incredibly dry and hard. You'll see the burnt pieces I was given. This was disappointing because as delicious as how the sauce was, I wouldn't serve dried, and burnt meat to customers. I was very let down because the quality just wasn't there. It was very tough and would not recommend this dish. I'm hoping it was an off day because I got this dish since another review mentioned the tender beef they received during a festival. The staff were nice and you can order through a tablet at the front. Nice to see more diverse food trucks in the bay, especially since there aren't many African restaurants.

First time ever trying Nigerian food and I fell in love instantly with the first bite! The amount of flavors that explodes in your mouth left me speechless craving for more! The owner and staff is super nice and welcoming making my first experience even better! I can't wait to go back for more and I highly recommend this place!

We had this for lunch today at Tesla and let me tell you, I was pleasantly suprised. The rice was so flavorful, but bland at the same time, in a good way. It was not overpowering. It was so rich and thick, and the flavors were really blended well. The fish was fried perfectly, and it was seasoned like crazy! It was so good. It tasted so good together. The plantains were a nice way to finish off the meal. Hands down one of the best lunches I have had here in 7 years. I will absolutely eat here again!

Jollof Kitchen was at a festival in downtown Burlingame this weekend so I tried the Jollof Rice Chicken & Plantain plate. The chicken was tender & spicy - expertly balanced blend of spices. The rice was smokey with great texture & the plantains were cooked to perfection. It's the type of food that makes you feel grateful after each bite. I cannot wait to have another meal from this truck!!!

I had their food on their food truck at a community event and it was so delicious that I had to find the restaurant. I cannot wait to order. I'm probably going to order tomorrow for dinner.!

Inedible beef so hard and dry
    Karen T.

I picked this truck to try based on yelp reviews, it was a failure for me. I got the beef platter, it was $29! If the beef was moist and delicious, I wouldn't care about the price as much. I paid for super dry inedible beef pieces that were super hard and stringy dry. The rice was just ok, a bit too salty for me. What i did like was the plantains, those were perfect.

I had the salmon, fried prawns, mac and cheese, and cabbage. Everything we tried was flavorful, fresh, and cooked with care. The standout items were the blackened shrimp and the crab. The butter sauce covering the crab was absolutely delicious and packed with flavor. The salmon was cooked exactly the way salmon should be--moist, flaky, and tender. Too many restaurants overcook salmon and dry it out in the center, but Chef Smelly's got it right. The fried prawns paired perfectly with their sweet chili sauce, which was a nice change from the usual tartar sauce. The sides held their own. The mac and cheese was creamy with great texture, and while I won't call it the best I've ever had, it was very good. The cabbage was excellent, but the collard greens were the real surprise. They reminded me of my mother's homemade greens, and that's not a compliment I give lightly. If you're from the South, you know how hard it is to find greens that taste like they came from someone's family kitchen. The service was attentive, friendly, and hospitable throughout the meal. More importantly, the food was consistently good from start to finish. Bottom line: Chef Smelly's is worth the visit. Great flavor, quality ingredients, and food that feels like it was made with pride. We'll definitely be back and would gladly recommend it to others.

But the hush puppies with collard greens stole the show...perfectly seasoned and cooked to right consistency. Overall atmosphere was nice with big windows that allow for plenty of sunlight in the day time. I like the music but it was just a tad loud for my taste. Otherwise we plan to visit again and get the oxtails next time.
