Small unassuming seafood place that reminded me of old Florida. Our server was very friendly and served us promptly. I ordered the captain's platter and Keith, the grilled scallops. Both were very fresh and prepared perfectly. As I was finishing up my dinner our server came out with two more friend oysters and scallops that I guess were not ready for my original order so we had oysters and scallops for dessert. What a pleasant surprise in Blue Ridge! we were absolutely overheating after hiking so we popped by Jolly Roger for some grub and drinks... I ordered the fish sandwich and it was tasty going down, but incredibly heavy on the digestion. my son was being a bit of a terror that day and the staff was extremely patient with him. Great fish and sides. The food is fresh & cooked perfectly. They don't serve alcoholic beverages. The waitress we had was very nice however we went in the last hour (I think they're only open 4 to 8 anyway). The downside was the pressure of the obvious we want to get out of here early mindset. It was literally said to us several times. We were seated by 7:20 - not exactly last minute. When you're paying about $25 for a meal, the atmosphere should be a little more enjoyable and less stressful, especially since we were not walking in at the last minute. Our table of four spent about $150 plus tip. Please be aware that it's not polite to stress people out about your closing time. We almost walked out & went elsewhere. If you want to close at 7 o'clock, then make that your hours, but don't say your closing time is 8 o'clock and then at 7:15 you're trying to hurry ppl. Not the customers fault. Glad we stayed. Firstly, I have eaten there many times, and the food is great. Now, this past weekend was my birthday, and my wife and kids were planning to take me out to eat for my birthday. Since it was a holiday weekend, a lot of places were already closed. My wife called JR to ask if they were going to be open for supper, to which the girl replied, "yes, we will re open at 4:00 for dinner, come on over". We live an hour and a half away, but we like their food enough to make the trip. Left about 2:20 to get there by 4:00. Got there about 10 minutes early, and while waiting in the parking lot for time to open, a girl comes out to tell us that "since lunch was a little slow, they decided not to open for dinner". I was very ticked off after making the drive, especially after calling to verify before. That's no way to run a business. read more

Not impressed! The food was ok but not great. It was way over priced when you consider the atmosphere and the food quality. The waitress was nice. The straw that broke the camel was the watery catsup. They peeled all the labels off of the catsup and made their own or watered down store bought either way it was disgusting. I love catsup so for me this was a major "no go!" to use military lingo. read more

Never had bad service or bad food at Jolly Roger! The popcorn shrimp are fantastic, the fried okra is delicious, and the servings are plentiful. If you're in the area I highly highly highly recommend you give it a try. read more

Have eaten here several times this year, but the last few times we went to JR were only because I did not feel like driving to another restaurant in Ellijay. JR is only open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and they stop seating customers 20-30 minutes before their posted closing time. This is because they want to close the grill, and clean up and go home. I know that other restaurants will seat customers even if they come in at the exact moment of closing time. The owners have told me!!! The comments in other reviews were very interesting! The customer who said JR removes the labels from the catsup bottles is right. I was told by a waitress that JR buys big cans of catsup to fill up the plastic bottles, but I can't tell if it is watered down. The cocktail sauce in the squeeze bottles is not good; it tastes like some horseradish sauce is mixed together with the catsup. That's all!!! Not the traditional recipe! The story about the woman who left her to-go box on the table but came back in 2 minutes to find it had been tossed out really says a lot about JR! What's wrong with keeping the box for the customer for a little while, or better yet, seeing if the customer is still in the parking lot? A little effort can give you a happy customer who will return many times. But the response from JR's owner shows that building a base of happy customers is not important to him. Would not recommend this place for my dog to eat at Has the worst customer service, better not ask a question about how the food is cooked cause you will have an attitude and not get waited on. Disabled Veteran with Service Dog refused service! Cannot rate the food as they profusely, rudely and arrogantly refused service to a disabled veteran with a service dog by staff and owner, they continued to argue that the "dog" was not allowed. Even when the ADA laws were mentioned, the owner continued to refuse and stated to take your business elsewhere! This is by far the worst I have ever been treated anywhere but in Northern Georgia... We're locals that decided to give Jolly Roger a try tonight. We had 8 people and were sat at 2 separate tables next to each other. When asked if we could push the 2 tables together we were told no because they were short staffed.... (???) The server that told us that was at one table and we had a different one but were waited on and served at the same time.... Guess they couldn't figure out how to keep the tables separate if they didn't see a physical separation??? All of the other tables were leaving btw, so it's not like it was a space issue... The service, rice, and corn were good but my scallops were way too salty to eat. Saltiness was a complaint from others at the table as well. I read others reviews about their run ins with the owner/management of this place which is why I chose to put my review here instead of go to management while there. I did not deal with them first hand so I won't comment on them directly.....You can look at the other reviews and draw your own conclusions just as I did and see why. If anyone is looking for wonderful seafood with staff friendliness and an owner that makes their rounds to the tables and actually cares about their establishment and customers, head on over to Mike's in Blairesville!! Totally worth the drive! Get there early though, because unlike this place, Mike's has a line out of the door of people waiting! read more

My husband, a disabled veteran, was denied seating at this restaurant because of our service dog. They tried to put us in a separate room by ourselves where there were no tables - only narrow high-top bar stools with no back support (which would have been very difficult for him) at a long narrow bar; plus we had another couple joining us, and it's kind of hard to have a conversation when you're four people at a bar facing the same wall. This owner needs to read the ADA rules which state, among other things, that "People with disabilities who use service animals cannot be isolated from other patrons, treated less favorably than other patrons, or charged fees..." We have eaten at almost every restaurant in Blue Ridge and have never been treated this way at any of them. In fact, we are often praised by staff about how well-behaved our dog is - no one else is even aware he is in the room until we leave and he comes out from under the booth. We are active in the local veterans' organizations and have since found out from others that this is apparently not a first for this restaurant. Please avoid this place if you support veterans or people with disabilities. read more

Ate at Blue Ridge restaurant tonight and had the best seafood I have in a long time. There were six of us and we all got something different. Everyone was happy with their meal...I had fried shrimp and fried tilapia which was absolutely delicious. The service was excellent and the prices were in line with the huge amount of food on each plate. We appreciated the good food and excellent service so much that we will be back very soon!! read more
