I think that there is probably nobody in NOVA that I trust to color my hair as much as David. I usually go to his flagship Springfield location, but will happily drive 40 minutes to Fairfax if I can get an appointment with him there faster than in Springfield. I have gotten full color, highlight, highlights with lowlights, and streaks. He advises me based on what the shape of my hair is at the time, and always gets it perfectly. On top of that, his cuts are superb, framing and flattering the shape of my face. I know that it is a lot pricier than a Hair Cuttery... but you do get what you pay for. read more

I absolutely loved the haircut and hair color I received from my stylist and I went to her for about a year. She did a great job and her prices were reasonable. But for some reason we just didn't have a good rapport. I'm not very chatty but I'm certainly pleasant and I tip very well. I started to dread my appointments. Well, apparently I wasn't the only person who dreaded going to see her because I overheard her telling the owner "I just don't like her" meaning me. Although it was mutual my feelings were hurt. I went in on the recommendation of a friend and scheduled an appointment. Scheduling by e-mail was smooth and they were able to accommodate the time range and stylist I requested. There was no wait, and I was brought back to get my hair washed. The attendant was very nice, and all-in-all it took less than 10 minutes. Then I went to get my hair cut. I have long thin hair. The stylist was a bit curt... she barely asked what I wanted, mentioned how she was 'very busy,' and that was the extent of the conversation. The entire cut took 5 minutes, and the blow dry another 5. No adjustments were made after the blow dry. I was not shown the back, barely shown the front (my seat was too short to see it well), and when I got home I discovered one side was about half an inch longer than the other side. I know I don't have much hair to work with, but it felt like a rush job...something I could have gotten at a barber shop for a lot cheaper. When I went to pay, I was surprised that the bill was much higher than the $63 quoted online. The receptionist said, 'You have long hair. That price is for short hair and then it goes up.' If you pay by credit card, there's also an extra charge. My cut was literally 5 minutes long, and not even in the end. Beware the up charges. For a 20 minute experience that came to over $80 (with tip), I will not be going back again. read more

I have no complaints with the Fair Lakes salon. I've seen Olivia for several years and she and the staff are always wonderful. I was rather disappointed in my visit today, however. When I went to pay, I was charged a fee for using a credit card. I understand many businesses are doing this. The company I work for is doing it. But there was no warning to clients and there was nothing to tell me until it was a done deal that I would be charged this extra fee. A good business practice would've been to put a sign up a month or two before this change was made to let clients know that the next time they came in they would be subject to this fee. There should also be a sign at the desk now, letting us know about this before we choose our payment method. At the very least, perhaps the receptionist should say something. The only notification is in the bottom right corner next to the front door 2 inches above the ground. Seriously, who looks at a sign on the floor? I hope this business will be considerate enough going forward to invite other kinds of payment such as Venmo. It's not very good customer service to be hit with this fee without warning and when it's too late to do anything about it. read more

I've loved getting my hair done by Saliha, but it's been over 2 1/2 years of being rescheduled after booking MONTHS in advance. The past 3 appointments I booked 3-4 months ahead were ALL rescheduled 2 weeks-a week in with every excuse possible. First, her schedule changed to Monday's and Wednesday's, so they asked to reschedule. Next appointment, I was told she was busy and cancelled all her services that day. Now this week they call me to say she's canceling AGAIN because she only works Saturday's and the Saturday I booked MONTHS ago, she's busy. This upcoming appointment was for my birthday, and I lost patience with constantly changing MY schedule to accommodate my stylist. I really loved coming here, but I can't recommend this place to anyone that actually wants their appointment to follow through. read more

UPDATE I came in last year some time around April-May to get my hair dyed red. Recently I've been wanting to go back to blonde (slowly of course - I am aware red dye is extremely hard to remove from your hair and bleaching it will be a challenge) so I've gone to several hair stylists who have done a bleach test strand on my hair. After doing a test strand every one of them (3) has told me that it's red box dye in my hair; the test strands came out blotchy which indicated box dye. I've never once dyed my hair at home let alone dye it red any else where. I was left completely clueless up until now. I can't believe I paid ~$260 for a hair dye and cut at a professional salon just to now find out that they used red box dye on me. read more

I have been going to see Sasha R. for years (since about 2017 I think, I have lost track!) and cannot recommend both her and the salon enough. Everyone is incredibly polite, the salon is always sparkling clean, and Sasha always makes sure my hair is absolutely perfect. I have gone from natural blonde, to platinum blonde, to reddish brown, to blue, and back to platinum, and Sasha gets it spot on every time. I am currently pregnant, so did not want to do the standard full bleach, so she took the time on my most recent visit to do a million babylights all over and I have already gotten multiple compliments in just a few days. Olivia is amazing. I always have anxiety when trying a new hair stylist because I've had so many bad experiences before. I asked for a simple haircut, trim, and added layers. I decided to just call the Clifton location and see who is recommended and that is how I met Mary. Talk about 1. Feeling like I'm back at home 2. First time I walked out, it was gorgeous... best part I wasn't charged insane amount of money to fix my hair color ( hair is only a little past my chin) some places were quoting me a STARTING rate of $300!!!! And wanted to bleach out my entire head first! Are you kidding me.. I have deep dark hair, super thick, and would simply break off if that was done. I have been back to Mary again for root touch up and she always styles my hair before I walk out the door. Even if I don't have an event. So frustrating - been going to the same stylist at Jon David Fairfax for almost 7 months, so 6 cuts but every time it's like the 1st - she doesn't remember a thing, and ignores what I ask for, cuts it to some other style. Every cut is a different issue - she just doesn't care enough to listen I guess. And the cut is awful - one side is shorter than the other, she "can't" blend it so that there's no "shelf" of hair. Let me start by saying I haven't had a hair cut in two years, I had been trying forever to find a stylist that I loved and just never seemed to be able to find someone, so I kind of gave up. My hair was long - below my shoulder blades - and my split ends went on for days. We just moved to Centreville and I was at that point where if I didn't find someone, I was going to chop off my hair myself. I did some research online and Jon David had great reviews. I requested an appt. in the morning and was able to get one for that same afternoon with Steve. Steve was awesome. I told him how long it had been and clearly, my hair was very damaged. I told him what I wanted and how much I wanted cut off. He listened to me and after making the first cut (about 5.5 inches), I told him that I wanted to go even shorter. He said he would, but he also gave me his opinion. He said lets cut your hair at this length and then after, if you really want to go shorter, then we will. I'm REALLY glad I listened to him because I definitely wouldn't have wanted to go shorter. Yeah, I wanted to chop off all my hair, but once it actually happens, it's a little shocking. I just really appreciate that he voiced his opinion and didn't just do exactly what I said. He also gave me really good advice on how to take care of my hair until my next hair cut. I will most definitely be going back...way before the next two years is up :) read more

I saw Alison and she was quick and did great work! No one tried to sell me products until I asked for recommendations and then they recommended a few products and let me pick one. I had a great experience here! I made a last minute appointment on an unexpected day off to get a cut and a small amount of coloring. Steve was my stylist. He listened to me when I wasn't sure exactly how to describe what I wanted, and worked with me patiently to figure it out! (I wanted a cut and a few subtle red highlights). He did exactly what I was going for - maybe too well - because I love the color, and I want to come back to have a few more highlights put in! I had made the appointment for a cut and partial highlights, but he consulted with a colleague and charged me for a cut and a quarter color ($25 for the color instead of $60-70 for partial highlights) - I wouldn't have known any differently - so I really appreciate him charging me honestly for the amount of work that was done. It ended up being a lot less expensive than I had anticipated. The cut was exactly what I asked for, and the whole experience was relaxing and lovely. He also didn't try to sell me on any products, which I appreciated, but he did give me some general product advice. I haven't had a specific hair stylist in almost five years, but I think Steve will see me becoming a regular! The whole experience and results with him at this salon was much better than more expensive salons I've been to in the area! read more

As always Jon David Salon deserves 5 stars. I usually go to the one in Springfield, as it is one of the few hair salons I visit in the DMV area. But while I was in the area I decided to give this one a try. I recommend getting a women's hair cut with David , he offers professional advice on which hair styles fit your face shape the best and he's great at creating fabulous hair cuts. For some reason every time I do go to a salon and get my hair dyed red, it comes out all wrong. Anyways, I went to the Jon David Salon after recommendation from a good friend. I was hoping for a nice Auburn (think Emma Stone in Easy A), but instead came out looking like Evie Marie from the WWE. Yeaaaahhhh.......definitely was not what I was going for. I was disappointed in the results being that I even showed the stylist a picture. I was offered a 20% discount on my next visit, but unfortunately I don;t think i will be cashing in on that. read more
