I had a great experience here! I made a last minute appointment on an unexpected day off to get a cut and a small amount of coloring. Steve was my stylist. He listened to me when I wasn't sure exactly how to describe what I wanted, and worked with me patiently to figure it out! (I wanted a cut and a few subtle red highlights). He did exactly what I was going for - maybe too well - because I love the color, and I want to come back to have a few more highlights put in! I had made the appointment for a cut and partial highlights, but he consulted with a colleague and charged me for a cut and a quarter color ($25 for the color instead of $60-70 for partial highlights) - I wouldn't have known any differently - so I really appreciate him charging me honestly for the amount of work that was done. It ended up being a lot less expensive than I had anticipated. The cut was exactly what I asked for, and the whole experience was relaxing and lovely. He also didn't try to sell me on any products, which I appreciated, but he did give me some general product advice. I haven't had a specific hair stylist in almost five years, but I think Steve will see me becoming a regular! As always Jon David Salon deserves 5 stars. I usually go to the one in Springfield, as it is one of the few hair salons I visit in the DMV area. But while I was in the area I decided to give this one a try. I came here last minute because my regular hair stylist broke her wrist. The salon was recommended by a friend. When I walked in I was greeted very nicely. The lady who was doing my hair came over shortly after and brought me to her chair. I told her I was going somewhere important that night and wanted a few foils around my face and then blow dried with beach waves. She then proceeded to brush my hair and tell me how terrible my hair dresser did on my hair. After washing it, I again told her I wanted it blow dried with beach waves... she said "well not sure what your going to do because I can't do that" she started blow drying my hair straight. I told her I didn't want it straight so she took out a plastic round brush and started blow drying it with that. I think at this point she could tell I wasn't happy and said she would find someone to do the waves... so instead of blow drying it with the waves another nice girl came over and curled my hair with a curling iron... went to pay... and they charged me to curl my hair... super annoyed because everyone OTHER than the girl I had seemed great and up-to-date on things... On a whim I made an appointment with David for a partial highlight and cut. He did a really nice job. I LOVE my haircut and color. I have drugstore color on my base and he took the time to make sure the highlights came out even and bright. His assistants were all wonderful and the communication between all parts of the salon was great. The salon was bustling even on a snowy day and every client I saw leaving looked lovely. My total was $135 (I used a coupon for $70 partial highlights) which is a great price. It is easy to see why this salon has multiple locations. I will definitely come back. read more

I love my haircut and I love Olivia! She is so sweet and really knew what she was doing. I didn't really have an idea of what I wanted for my hair, thinner and shorter was pretty much all the instruction that I gave her. She really listened to my hair dilemmas and past history. She offered amazing advice with how to keep my hair from splitting and getting frizzy. Kat is insanely easy to talk to, and I -never- talk while I'm getting my hair done. I'm one of those awkward turtles who just stare bewildered at themselves in the mirror. Yet when Kat was doing my hair, I couldn't shut up and she was styling it different to what has been done in the previous years. I can honestly say that Kat gave me the best haircut I've ever had. There's no exaggeration about this. I'm so sad I came here just this week for my engagement shoot to get my hair curled and makeup done because I have had wonderful experiences at the Springfield location. I was told upon booking the appointment that my hair would be washed prior to styling and by the time I got to the appointment I was informed the only way my curls would stay in was if my hair was dirty. I should have listened to my gut because by the time my hair was taken out for the shoot it fell completely flat and there was so much product in my hair it made my hair look extremely greasy in all the pictures. I have been to the salon a few times and have been very pleased with my haircut. Mariela has done a great job giving my a cut that is easy to manage. I had an appointment to get my haircut today but instead left with wet hair. I arrived 10 minutes before my appointment and was told Mariela was working on a someones color. At my appointment time they brought me back to get washed and then sat me in a chair and told me she would be with me. While my washing was taking place there was a conversation with David about me (im assuming about Mariela being overbooked) but nothing was ever relayed to me. While I was sitting in a chair off in the corner, I noticed Mariela starting someone elses haircut. After 45 minutes and no one acknowledging me waiting or updating me I left. I am disappointed with the service I received (or really lack of) and will be on the mission to find a new salon. A simple call prior to my appointment asking to reschedule would have fixed this but I guess communication is too much to ask for. Update The general manager has reached out to me to make things right and apoligize for the service I received. I have increased my rating to 3 stars since I have liked my haircuts in the past. read more

Steve is an artist! First of all, I got my hair cut about three weeks ago at a cheap place in Maryland that was recommended to me. Not sure why I trusted a $17 hair cut! The girl cut my hair way uneven and didn't listen to me the three times I told her where my part was. Now, on to this place. I recently moved to the area and was in desperate need of having the train wreck that was my hair fixed. I called on a Sunday morning to ask if they had anything available that day. They said they could take me about half an hour later. So I went, was greeted immediately (this is very important to me) and asked to write down my name and phone number. Steve came up shortly after and introduced himself with a handshake (bonus points in my book) then sat me down in the chair. He asked me what I wanted and then stated what he wanted to do. I know nothing about hair so when I get my hair done, I usually just trust the artist/stylist. So he started by washing my hair then cutting, he did one snip initially and showed me how much he was cutting to make sure it was alright. The entire time he would explain what he was doing and why. This was awesome to me especially after having such a disaster at the last salon I went to. I'm a tapper when I'm getting my hair done and he carried every stupid conversation I started like a trooper. He gave tips to me too. Like, everyone raves about coconut oil in your hair but apparently you shouldn't use it during the summer because it can damage your hair instead of moisturizer it. Did you know that? I didn't. In the end he matched my highlighted color to the colors had in my hair already that had grown out. He styled my hair in a low maintenance but feminine and beautiful way. I'm 100% happy and pleased with my experience there. He was awesome. read more

I don't normally go to this salon but I needed a root touch up for my balayage and my ends lightened and toned to look ashy. My natural color is black and I emphasized to the stylist that I wanted my dark roots to be lightened. She said she could do it with no problem and that she's done it before. Well my ends turned out warm, brassy and patchy- light in random places and after she had spent the time to get them done...she didn't start working in the roots.... I asked her again to lighten the base to a brown (because black roots straight to blonde ends looks horrible). She said she was hesitant and that the blonde looked good as it was, and that she was afraid it would be too warm... I reassured her to do what I asked since I get this done every 3 months at my usual place. She went to work and another hour later, my roots were exactly the same. She said she didn't know what happened. I don't know either because in the two years of having a balayage, I've NEVER had this problem. She said she'd try again next weekend but I don't need to sit in the chair for another 4 hours to walk out looking even worse than when I went in. I tipped her for her time, but decided to talk to the manager for a refund. I called the salon and asked to speak to the manager, receptionist said she'd pass along the message and he'd call me back...he never did. Needless to say I've learned my lesson and I'll stick to professionals. I would avoid this place if you are looking for complex styles and treatments..if you need a simple trim or haircut then go for it. read more

Before I met Kat, my hair was a disaster and I didn't know why. I had been seeing the same stylist for several years, but I hated what he did to my hair the last 3 visits. It was streaky black (I am a brunette), and it only seemed to get worse over time. The first time I booked with Kat, she looked at my hair and diagnosed the problem (well water), offered a solution (replace shower head with strong filter), then set about working for HOURS on my hair to peel away the black streaks, color me back natural, and frame my face. This was my first visit to JonDavid Salon in Clifton. (or anywhere). I met with Sarah L. a few days before my appointment was set, to discuss what I wanted and what my thoughts were. Right away I felt as though she really understood what I was looking for. On the day of my appointment, I was treated like a princess. Water, coffee, tea cocoa? Need anything? Done! I got a full-color transformation, including full color, highlights, and a toner. This took about 4 hours, which is exactly what I had expected. Everyone in the salon was professional. The music was upbeat, but not too loud. The staff was friendly, but not nosey. The shampoo tech was a magician with the head massage. And the best part of the whole day? My hair looks amazing! My regular salon closed a few years ago. After trying many different salons, I finally found my home at Jon David. Scarlet is fabulous. I am almost afraid to share her name because she's already hard to get an appointment with. She always listens and makes sure you are receiving what you asked for. I feel like she actually gets the right shade of blonde, which can be very hard with my hair. The price and quality are perfect. I have also had my hair done by Olivia when Scarlet was on maternity leave. She is also wonderful. In fact, I don't think you could wrong with any of the stylists at the salon. I was told they all train with the owner. He is always there when I get my hair done and it's fascinating to watch him go from chair to chair.
