. I scheduled this visit after experiencing positive results from following the guidance in his book, which helped me significantly manage my acid reflux. Because of that success, I felt encouraged to seek his care after many years of consulting other physicians. When Dr. Aviv entered the room, he greeted me and asked how he could help. I began by thanking him for the impact his book had on improving my reflux symptoms and then started explaining the issue that brought me to the appointment. While I was speaking, he turned to his computer and began entering information and speaking with his nurse. I paused, and he then said he would return to me in a moment. Although I initially felt concerned about not being heard, I chose to be patient and continued with the visit. Eventually, he asked about my previous medical history, including which doctors I had seen and when my last chest X-ray had been performed. I explained that I had been seeing various doctors since 2008 and that my most recent testing may have been around 2021. When I said it had been "a couple of years," he corrected me by saying that 2021 was more than a couple of years ago. When I could not recall the exact date of my last scan and mentioned that I would need to retrieve that information, he responded by saying--while rolling his eyes--that it was important for me to come prepared so he would not have to "start from scratch." I explained that this was exactly what I had hoped he could help with, since prior treatments had not resolved the issue. At that point, the tone of the conversation felt increasingly dismissive and condescending. The eye‑rolling, interruptions, and sharp responses made it difficult to continue the discussion in a productive way. After several attempts to explain my situation, I decided to end the appointment. I stood up and said that it was okay and that I no longer needed his help, thanking him for his time. As I left, he called after me. I responded that I felt he had been very condescending. His reply was, "Perhaps that's why you haven't had anyone help you." In my 65 years, I have never walked out of a doctor's appointment, even when I felt uncomfortable. This experience, however, felt so dismissive and disrespectful that I felt it was the only appropriate choice. What disappointed me most was that the interaction was so different from the positive impression I had formed from his work. Unfortunately, that impression was erased in the brief time I spent in the office. I am sharing this feedback in the hope that it may help improve the experience for future patients. I would strongly advise against seeing Dr. Aviv. Within 2 minutes of my appointment he was extremely disrespectful and condescending, so much so that I had to get up and leave. I would advise women in particular to stay away from this doctor, or in the worst case bring someone with you. read more

Part of a successful practice is the front desk. I gave this 3 stars because of Dr Aviv. The front desk deserves a ZERO. After sitting for 1 hour and no one acknowledging I was waiting for an hour I said something. Only then did they check. I was left in a small windowless room for another 30 minutes. Dr Aviv was very pleasant and professional he spent alot of time w/me. When I followed up to get my meds called into the pharmacy I choose which I repeated 3 times they never followed up. I needed to call yet again. Extremely frustrating. Called to speak with office mgr on the phone for over 8 minutes only to find out there is an emergency and not available. Why not tell me when I initially called. This kind disorganization is bad for their practice. read more

If you think you have random symptoms, from the neck up, look up silent reflux and see if that fits the complaint bill. If you have it, there's no one better than Dr. Aviv (I went to other Drs, most said it was nothing, one said it was silent reflux and don't change or do anything....huh?). He's an expert on the subject, dare I say he wrote the book on it? I only write about Drs who I find competent, curious, interested and knowledgable. Dr. Aviv is one of those medical professionals (and you don't need all fingers on one hand to count those I put in that category). I had bought his books but decided an in person visit would be optimum given I was so frustrated with my endless Dr visits every few months with seemingly random symptoms that were getting increasingly worse. Dr. Jonathan Aviv was just the specialist to see when I having issues with my voice as it turned out I had silent or throat reflux, and I appreciated his more holistic approach to solving the problem as opposed to reaching for prescription medications. He's even written a book on the subject, which outlines lifestyle and dietary changes that wasn't expensive at all. The speech pathologist he recommended Andie Schneider was also terrific and went above and beyond. His referral to a GI specialist for baseline testing also uncovered more pathology I would never have expected. If I could put anything less than one star I would. My experience at the ENT Allergy and Associates Grand Central location was the worst medical experience I've ever had. I checked- in, waited for an hour, and then spent another half hour with the nurse waiting for Dr. Aviv. He finally arrived and began to ask me questions, but just as he was going to begin the vocal chord exam, the receptionist knocks on the door. She proceeds to ask for my insurance card and then regretfully informs me the doctor does not take my insurance. I was sitting on the exam chair, had been prepped and sprayed with the sinus clearing solution, and keep in mind, I had been waiting in the waiting room for an hour and none of this was addressed! The misunderstanding could have possibly been forgiven, but unfortunately the events that followed were the most unpleasant part. Dr. Aviv very rudely explained that I have two options. Either pay out of pocket or find a doctor that accepts my insurance. After I asked how much the fee out of pocket was, Dr. Aviv fled the scene never to be seen again. The nurse was apologetic, but little to no effort was made to make- nice for this clear act of negligence. Dr. Aviv disappeared when he discovered he didn't accept my insurance without so much as a second look. I've never felt more uncomfortable and de-valued in my life. I would highly recommend finding another doctor; one who sees people as humans not dollar signs. read more

He was so thorough and took the time to explain things so clearly. He looked at my issues in a way none of my previous doctors had. I left with a very clearly described plan of how to move forward. i saw this man 9 years ago when i got dysphagia again. not only was he rude but he insisted i did not have dysphagia and started to scream at me! it was so bad that his assistant followed me out and apologized for him. i was later after a barium swallow diagnosed with severe dysphagia. I have lived on puree and liquids for the last nine years. one may ask why on earth am i only now giving a review- i have trauma from all the years of sickness and this man's treatment of me is something that comes back as a bad flashback. What a rude arrogant man. I will say that his assistant at the time following me out and telling me that anything is possible with god and not to give up was the bright spot- Imagine how bad this was for me to remember it to this day. oh by the way dr aviv. you were wrong. i do have dysphagia. and i pray that i will be healed . Oh, and he gave me anti acid meds and my other doctor said i dont have acid reflux in fact i had too little acid. i see the other women here said he berated them. yes i can say this is true. I have never been talked to by any doctor the way he talked to me. I work in midtown; had an ear infection; found this practice with a convenient location. I chose a doctor randomly based on my schedule but I really lucked out with Dr. Aviv. He is the nicest guy and so skilled. He took the time to ask about my symptoms and really listen. He was always polite and respectful. When he had to suction my ear, he told me ahead of time what was going to happen and he was mindful of my comfort level at all times. He was dedicated to finding out what caused my infection and how to keep it from coming back. I would recommend anyone to seek him out. I went to dr aviv because a friend of mine said he had helped her. I was suffering from acute heartburn every night, plus difficulty swallowing. The medicine I had been give. By another dr was not working. Dr. Aviv spent over an hour with me, explaining acid reflux and how t deal with it. He used his FEEST test to correctly identify my problem, prescribed medication for the problem, and I left feeling a lot better as well as relieved. It's been about a month since I saw him, and my symptoms have all but disappeared. He is a fantastic, caring, competent physician, and I am encouraging my husband to go to him as well. I came to dr Aviv because I heard good things about him and after 6 months of a chronic cough I was desperate for help. I'm also an RN and I knew it was acid reflux related. First of all, I spent an hour and a half waiting to see him. I was about to walk out when they called me. Then he came in and the second he entered the room he was condescending. I told him the symptoms and he scolded me for being a nurse and not knowing better to get a chest X-ray. That was the nice thing he said. Then he yelled at me for not knowing my primary dr information whom I've only seen once about 2 years ago. He went on about how he remembered everything and everyone including those that are dead (I'm not kidding). I said well goodie for him. Then he continues to berate me and practically telling me how stupid and clueless I am. He had absolutely no respect for me and I was in the medical profession so imagine how he treats everyone else. I had never in my life been spoken to by anyone like this especially a doctor who's suppose to make you feel better not worse. Within those horrible 10 minutes that I was in the room with him I knew this was not the doctor I wanted to be treated by. Can you imagine going regularly? If I wanted verbal abuse and being demeaned I would've stayed with my ex husband. I walked out on him. Never did that before. This guy needs some therapy and psychiatric meds. He has issues. I saw Dr Aviv, or Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde as I call him now, twice in 2019 because of the inflammation and the lump sensation in my throat . He was very nice and helpful, and after almost three years of suffering from this problem I thought I had finally found the doctor who would help me. How wrong I was! I saw him again last November because I'm still having problems. As soon as he entered the room, I noticed his attitude was completely different from last time, and when I told him that although I was feeling better I was still having my throat problems, he became very offensive and rude. He suggested I was crazy and I needed a psychiatrist, and then he said I didn't understand anything. And how come? He was even contradicting himself saying things totally different from what he told me last time. I was tempted to leave the room, I'm still wondering why I didn't do it. Awful experience x 2. Never even got to see the doctor. Waited 1.5 hours first time in the office. Had to leave to go to work so I rescheduled. Came back two weeks later (first available-ridiculous) and waited 45 min and had to leave again. While exiting the receptionist exclaimed that she was "surprised I hadn't been seen yet and that it was so bizarre because she thought I was called in a while ago". Well, I wasn't. And a quick glance at the waiting area would've told her that but she was too busy not caring. I was more than understanding the first time. I rescheduled and came back. Two times-just an obvious lack of consideration for patients who are taking time out of their busy schedules to try and see Dr. Aviv. It's utterly frustrating as I really needed to meet with this doctor to get to the bottom of my issue. read more

this doctor was nasty and unpleasant. when i interrupted to ask questions he told me to "keep quiet." when i continued asking questions where i did not understand, he threatened to stop talking, write all down and make me read it after the visit!!!! he was arrogant and condescending! then he mis-diagnosed me with a paralyzed vocal chord. he told me to do an mri, do his program of allergy testing, and his months of speech pathology and to read his book. after the mri and 2 other mds at nyu and cornell, his diagnosis was declared totally wrong!!! i have no paralyzed vocal chord!!!!! in fact, nothing was found wrong with my vocal chords!!! this md is out to take you for as much money as he can make off you with all his many services and books!!!! stay away!!!! try dr. amin at nyu or dr sulica at cornell -- both great mds not out to sell books and make a max of money on you. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Aviv for two years and am being treated for acid reflux and vocal cord issues which had previously gone undetected by other physicians. I am grateful for the treatment and recommendations I am receiving. Dr. Aviv makes the exam relatively pleasant since he has to examine the inside of my nose and throat. I've been a patient of Dr. Aviv's for a few years now and I'm so happy I found him! He's a fabulous doctor! I was doctoring with several doctors prior to seeing Dr. Aviv and no one could find out what was wrong with me. My first visit with him, he knew exactly what my issue was. Not only was he able to help me, I brought my mom to see him for a spot on her sinus that was found on an x-ray from a different doctor. He then sent my mom to a sinus specialist and I can't thank him enough. He saved my mom's life as she ended up having a large tumor growing in her sinus attaching to the skull. Not only is Dr. Aviv a wonder doctor, but the book is as well. My husband has had trouble keeping his meals down for a couple of years. We went to a number of doctors and he had many procedures and then to Dr. Aviv. We live in Central Jersey so going to a New York doctor is a bit of a trip for seniors, but so well worth it. At the first visit Dr. Aviv told us about his book and gave us the diet sheet. We followed the diet through the menus and recipes in the book and within ten days my husband was able to eat in comfort. Within a month he had almost no problems with meals. Since I do the cooking in the home, it just meant that I had to alter my recipes a bit, but that was no problem. Everything was written out clearly and simply. We have gone back four times now to Dr. Aviv and it is a year and a half later and my husband rarely has problems anymore with meals. He can enjoy his food once again. We did and still do follow the expected foods that are allowed. At any rate, if you are or know someone who is a sufferer from acid indigestion, GERD, or some such issues, go to Dr. Aviv, you won't be sorry. Thank you Dr. Aviv.
