Jonathan is great. My dad always taught us that we should do all our own painting (Mom taught us to clean our own house). So it seemed extravagant to have someone come in to do something i could do. Silly me. The quality of Jonathan's work is so superior to what I could do, so much faster, quality prep work, quality materials, the works. Once I got over hearing my dad lecturing in my head, we had Jonathan seal our wooden french doors, then he painted the exterior of our home, painted the whole interior. I'm out of things to paint! I tasked Jonathan with 4 projects on my property. 2 were done exceptionally well and 2 were extremely disappointing. The good: Jonathan did a good job power washing outdoor balconies and stairs. He also did a wonderful job staining the front door of our house. The bad: Jonathan did a terrible job staining the garage door. It looks uneven, unappealing and I've already contracted a new person to strip out his work and start again. Jonathan also delivered an incomplete job staining the front of the house. He blames the uneven stain on the previous stain job. I find that ridiculous! The house shingles were stained 9 years ago and when you're asked to stain them again you're supposed to power wash them first and make sure they're clean and even before applying the stain. Here too, I am contracting a professional company to fix his mistakes. The reviews claim exceptional attention to details and I question that! I have at least 4 areas Jonathan left behind with the following: 1-Permanent oil stain on the balcony tiles post power washing. 2-Oil stains on some of the window trims and door trims. 3-Major oil stains on the main stairs leading to the house. 4-Broken roof tiles from power washing left in the backyard for me to pick up. Lastly, Jonathan made unqualified and unneeded comments on the property that ended up costing me additional money. He claimed that my roof is separating and needed urgent attention. I called Mclaren Roofing and got an inspection done on the whole roof only to hear that there's "no problem" with the roof whatsoever. I never use yelp for projects like these but I was compelled by all the reviews and find it only "fair" to write my own and honest version after this experience. I had 2 competitive bids on the house and chose Jonathan because of his nice personality. Unfortunately, he delivered an incomplete job and blamed it on everyone but himself. I would definitely not use him or recommend him for future readers. read more

His expertise and skill meant we ended up just doing the areas in need of caulking / painting and blending into the areas that were fine. I contracted with Jonathan Bassil back in Jan 2018 to do some indoor painting and also asked him to refinish my front entry way. Mr Bassil agreed to perform this work on my door, with the assistance of his subcontractor. However, since no definite start date for that work was established, we left it out of the original contract. He and his subcontractor, Stu, did a decent enough job on the interior work to be sure, but declined to refinish the front entry way at that time because the weather was too cold. He promised to do it when the weather warmed up. I agreed and said that I would contact Bassil Painting once the weather warmed up in May. Now to be totally fair, it was Stu who expressed an interest in that job, and Jonathan said he would help as I recall. Jonathan (not Stu) called me again in March to see if they could do that job at that time-but the weather was still too cold for me to risk the door sticking from the varnish. Fast forward to May. I called Mr Bassil because the weather was now warm enough to finish what they said they would do in January. After several calls to Mr Bassil to try to get a date that was mutually convenient to finish the job he and Stu had agreed to do I was told that he was "too busy" for my job and was no longer interested. He offered several excuses-most of which centered around contracting for bigger fish than my job-but the bottom line is that after saying they would finish what they agreed to do, I am now left without a contractor. There were also excuses made about his partner's heart condition-but as a doctor myself I am familiar with that condition (I will not divulge it here), and its nothing that would prevent performing the promised work. Don't allow yourself to be in this position if reliability is one of the factors you use to choose a painting contractor. Avoid Jonathan Bassil Painting! Addendum: regarding the agent Mr Bassil claims is now "banned" ( how can his partner use a "banned" agent?) and would have been needed to strip the varnish from the door, that's another excuse. I have contacted other contractors who have put in bids on the job and they had no problem with the chemicals needed to strip the door. So either they are proposing to use a banned agent, or they have found other means to get the job done-as Mr Bassil should have done-such as a water-based product by 3M called Safest Stripper. As I told him, my father taught me that a man is only as good as his word. Avoid this company! read more
