Came here for a client meeting and what a good surprise in that the property is on the sand in Santa Monica. I've only been to the downtown JC and that's OK too. The JBC is on the beach in Santa Monica beach, 3 floors, with conference rooms that have ocean views. It's calm here, the service is 4 star, the views 5 star. The entire place has a vibe of California beach casual, not high end, service oriented, clean and nicely maintained. I hear the Easter brunch is good so gotta try that next and will report. For lunch you can pick from a variety of light spa entrees, salads, fish, short ribs, organic chicken. Had the sand dabs and they were pretty tasty, the sauce a bit dense but good. For the great scenery and service, will come back the next invite. The service attention here is really 4 star, the property is about 3.5, the views are 5- star.. Visits: 1 Tip: If you come here, have lunch or dinner in the dining room on the 1st floor it opens on to the sand and you can walk to the water..........super nice Fire pit outside.

I was a guest for a special event here and was totally impressed. It's easy to find and there is valet parking for a fee. There is also a large parking lot next door for a lesser fee. The valet were organized and had our names on the list. We were directed up to the penthouse for cocktails. There is a huge outside area and there was a nice bar set up. I was so impressed with the view of the beach that spread from Santa Monica pier to Malibu. The sunset was beautiful. Tasty appetizers were passed that included lobster ceviche (my favorite), chicken wrapped in prosciutto, artichoke and cheese on toast, and steak and tomato skewers. There were several bar top tables to stand around and the waitresses were nice and friendly. Dinner then took place at tables that were directly on the sand. The dress was beach casual with sandals which was perfect for a warm evening. There was adequate amount of room for posters, displays, and entertainment. A buffet was set up that included freshly made grilled burgers, hot dogs, and veggie burgers with all the toppings. Baked beans, baked potatoes, and salad was also provided. I enjoyed all of it! There was also a nice coffee station with an assortment of cookies. I went back for seconds on the cookies! The bathrooms were clean and close enough to get to easily. There are also nice tennis courts at this beach club that can be used for other events. This was my first time here and I was happy with everything. I would love to go back again some day.

I love the Jonathan Beach Club! When I visit LA, I enjoy hanging out here at the beach club in Santa Monica (and staying overnight at the clubhouse in downtown LA). The private club atmosphere (esp. at the downtown club) is very East Coast meets West Coast with grand sumptuous salons and dark wood-paneled walls. Here at the beach club, the atmosphere is more airy and casual. One can lay by the beach, swim in the pool, play tennis, or have a delightful meal al fresco.

The JBC holds a special place in my heart - I grew up here, went to beach camp, attended summer events, family had their graduation celebrations over a nice dinner and even attended a wedding! This is very much a family oriented place if you want a nice beach outing. There's a playground for the kids and a place for the parents to hang out before everyone heads to the beach. We would do this in the morning, get a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch (my favorite!), then head to the beach. They also have a very indoor and outdoor area for food and drinks. It's common to see business professionals holding meetings over cocktails or families celebrating an occasion. My college gradation dinner was here as well as my brother's high school graduation celebration! If you want the indoor private room (holds around 11-14 people) make sure to book it in advance! While I never learned how to play tennis, I often swam in their indoor pool. It's pretty big, has many lanes and runs 9 feet deep! You do have to rinse off beforehand in the nearby bathrooms. Amazing place! And parking is right in front of the California incline.

We were lucky enough to dine on the terrace as guests of a member. The view was spectacular and the food was solid. I had never been to the Jonathan Club before and for some reason I expected it to be .... well.... nicer. Considering how much money people pay to join and spend on a regular basis, I would've expected everything to be in better condition. This is the type of place to be seen and clearly, it'll never be for me (not that I can afford to join anyway). It was fun; however, to enjoy it for just a moment.

The bar has plenty to enjoy, including a pool table, fireplaces, and various games. The bartenders are organized and efficient. Don't expect a lot of engagement, as they're typically very busy, especially when the place gets crowded. Most of the bars are dive bars in downtown Santa Monica, and parking is quite accessible for this place. So I'd recommend for that reason. In terms of the drinks, I'm a huge fan of cocktail but I would say their menu selections are a bit limited. Nothing in the signature cocktail looks interesting to me, so I had the bartender make a classic cocktail instead. He's very attentive and friendly, didn't take forever to get a drink either, no attitude. Drinks aren't watered down either. Nice! You come here to grab quick drinks when you don't feel like being at a loud dive bar in the area, it's in a hotel but not too upscale, no strict dress code. Music is not loud and they have couches and booth if bar table if not your thing, you don't have to yell or pretend you hear everything to hold a conversation here (lol). ** Keep in mind 20% gratuity is automatically included in bill, it's my first time here. But I think I've other spots I'd prefer to be in, even at Santa Monica. Wouldn't be self-motivated to come back because there are better places that specialises mixology, and there are also better upscale hotel bars to be at. But if you're around the area it's a great intimate bar for date night that's not overly pricey. Wouldn't travel all the way to here just for this (if you know what I mean).

Once we arrived, the service only got better. Our waitress, Courtney, was an absolute superstar! She did the work of five people, providing superior service with a warm smile all evening. We also had a minor issue come up, but the manager, Niko, was fantastic and resolved it instantly with total professionalism with his stellar team. We greatly appreciated how well taken care of we were.  The ambiance here is stunning and versatile. They feature a lovely open-air balcony that catches a perfect ocean breeze, with comfortable couch-style seating options as well as standard tables. It feels like the perfect spot for a romantic dinner or a lively girls' brunch (and I think they have a DJ or sort of live music on Saturdays). For logistics, while there seems to be valet parking for the building, we opted for the large self-parking lot right next door, which was highly affordable and convenient. The restaurant is on the top floor (there are elevators and escalators). Now, the food. The chef deserves a massive round of applause! Every single dish was gorgeous, tasted incredibly fresh, and was extremely delicious. Our group had a mix of dietary restrictions, including: vegetarian, vegan, and some gluten-free guests. LouLou's menu offered choices for everyone, and we were able to find something spectacular for every diet. On a previous visit I had the salmon which was delicious. This time I had the ribeye flambée which comes with a show. Have your camera ready! The steak was tender and perfectly seasoned to allow the taste of the beef to be the star. I also tasted the tomato burrata, and the Greek salads. Both were yummy. I can't wait to come back and try the truffle risotto, my friend said it was the best. Another friend got the salmon pizza which looked delicious and I will also have to give it a try! We had an amazing night and will absolutely be back. Thank you so much to the incredible team here!

I first came here as part of our stay at the hotel, and it has a surprisingly lively atmosphere throughout the day. There are quite a lot of people working on laptops or studying, which gives it more of a community café feel than a typical hotel restaurant. Parking is valet only at the hotel and costs $22 for up to 2 hours, which is steep. However, street parking nearby is metered and not too difficult to find if you're willing to walk a few minutes. The food is definitely on the expensive side, but the quality is generally very good. The standouts were the Proper Breakfast, acai bowl, shakshuka plate, and breakfast burrito. These felt thoughtfully prepared and satisfying. The salmon bagel was just okay and didn't quite justify the price. I also had a smoothie that was very good, but at $20, it felt hard to fully justify ordering again. I was especially interested in trying their Cowboy Cold Foam coffee, but unfortunately it wasn't available during our visit. We also ordered takeout for dinner, and that experience was strong overall. The mushrooms and onion soup dip was excellent and one of the highlights. The Caesar salad and vodka pasta were decent but not particularly memorable. Overall, La Palma delivers a great atmosphere, strong breakfast options, and high-quality food, though pricing is definitely premium across the board. It's worth visiting, especially if you're staying at the Proper Hotel or want a beautiful place to relax, work, or enjoy a leisurely breakfast.
