This restaurant is a staple in my family and I am shocked I have not written a review. I have eaten here countless times. The food is consistently delicious and the service is always good. It's a large restaurant, very pretty. Had a bar area and a private room. I actually had my bay shower here. Was fantastic. Everyone had the best time. I will write this review for this past Sunday night's dinner. There were 8 of us. We were seared right away with our reservation. Server came with menus and had my daughters high chair set up upon arrival at the table along with a kids menu and crayons. I think they have an updated kids menu and it's pretty large. My daughter ordered the organic chicken with French fries. She enjoyed it. It came with apple juice and ice cream. She was thrilled to have the ice cream at the end. My grandmother and I ordered the grilled jumbo shrimp. Was delicious! I loved the spinach and the perfectly crispy potatoes. My grandmother loved hers as well. My grandfather and father ordered the scallops. They both thoroughly enjoyed their meal and where so happy to have 8+ scallops. They felt it was a good portion. My mom ordered an eggplant pasta that she really enjoyed. My husband ordered the veal parmesan. It came with pasta on the side. He ate everything and loved it, but was full. My grandparents split a brownie with ice cream for dessert, was very good. The coffee ice cream was the perfect pairing for it. Will be back again and again read more

Great place for Passover dinner! They have a Passover 3 course prix-fixe menu for the first two nights. It includes a mini seder plate, matzah, chopped liver, gefilte fish. It was very busy the first night, including a large table of over 20 people in a semi-private room. Loved to see it! There are no haggadahs given here. I saw some groups bring their own and it was fun to overhear them going through the seder steps. (We did not bring a haggadah.) The matzah ball soup - the matzah ball was very good but the broth didn't have much flavor. Tasted the celery etc more than chicken broth. Everything else was very delicious! The beet salad is one of our favorite dishes. Our Passover menu mains: brisket, salmon salmon. (One person also had the ribeye that was on the regular menu and said it was amazing. ) We had one of each of the Passover desserts (flourless chocolate cake, warm apple cobbler) and they were SO GOOD that I wish I had more room to eat more of them! Cons: our waitress didn't know how to pronounce "seder" and pronounced it like "cedar". Bread was automatically put on our table instead of asking if we want matzah instead. One of the staff took our seder plate without confirming if we were done with it (we only wanted our appetizer plates replaced.) I told the waitress not to bother replacing it at this point (though I wish I asked for more haroset), but said to let the staff know for other guests benefit that it should probably stay on the table until the end. read more

Came here for a wedding event. The ambiance was pretty but the servers were really slow with everything except the drinks lol. We just had Shirley temples. Bread basket was small for the table of people. The cornbread and butter was good.. The house salad was okay it needed a little more dressing. The chicken Marsala was honestly pretty disappointing and took more than an hour to appear. The gravy needed some help and they should have added mashed potatoes or something more substantial than just a few wedges. Also they only have two chicken strips. Veggies were tasteless. My SO had the shrimp risotto but they only gave 4 piece shrimp and a ton of rice. Cappucino was good and came with a small almond biscotti. Surprisingly this place is still popular and packed on a Wednesday evening. Did notice thst the clientele was of the senior set. The huge selection is sure to please any picky eater. It was packed prob because it was lobster nt. Unfortunately I didn't notice the price. I had the Linguini al pescatore which was a generous portion of shrimp, mussels, clams, scallops. It was delish. Service could be improved but it was a busy nt. Had to ask server to clean up table from mate's errant runaway rigatoni and bread crumbs and refill water. We had a good brunch experience several months back but when we went for dinner the other day, it was a bit of a miss. Crab cakes were pretty tiny and not the freshest. The salmon burger was just ok. The Cornbread also wasn't as good or warm as it was for brunch. Paella was probably the best dish we had and my spicy cucumber margarita was delicious. Service was adequate, ambiance was nice. Came her for a late. working lunch. It was not busy so we were seated quickly. They have a 3 course lunch special. And their menu is not too overwhelming but there seemed to be something on there for everyone. O had the Buffalo spring rolls. It was light and cheesy could of used a little more seasoning for me on the chicken itself. but not bad over all they don't carry ranch which was a disappointment for me cause I do not like blue cheese. I had the pecan crusted chicken salad. It was pretty good again the chicken itself was a little bland a could have been more seasoned. At the start they have there corn breads those were delicious. Reservation was made and we were seated promptly. When we were seated our waiter was very friendly and attentive. We were a large party so I can understand any frustrations. Our waiter had help from another waiter who had a very interesting personality who seemed to get mad when we changed the order. We had told him we had a birthday and expected a candle when the dessert came... no candle. I'm not sure what direction is given to the busboys/support staff, but it needs work. The bus boys were rapidly cleaning the table all throughout our meals. Is this a sign for us to leave? As far as the food, it is okay... nothing amazing. I've been coming here for years with my grandparents and extended family. We went last night for my father's birthday. Wow the menu has become more expensive. I ordered the halibut which was seasoned and cooked well could've had a bit more veggies but the spinach and mash were good. For appetizer we had the goat cheese salad which everyone enjoyed. I ordered the veal parm which was good, although they forgot my pasta so I had to remind them about that, but otherwise it was tasty and crisp. The sauce is a bit on the sweater side. For dessert I got the chocolate ganache cake which was a HUGE portion, but I think the cake was a bit dry. Service was ok. Food came out quickly but after we were server, we weren't really checked up on and the place wasn't that busy either. Overall, it was a positive experience. The restaurant itself is quite lovely. Came here for a celebration dinner so can really only speak to the catering menu. First, I'm not sure which menu was chosen but looking at the options online even the cheapest option is quite pricey for what we got, so that was surprising. Started with a bread basket. This was nothing special. There was a strange yellow bread I wasn't familiar with that dominated the basket. The Caesar salad was fine, a little over-dressed and very underwhelming in the plating/appearance. Went with the salmon. This had a nice crisp to the outside and was seasoned nicely. Again, the plating of this left a lot to be desired with the three potatoes, 7 string beans, and 2 carrots. The service at first was pretty attentive to water/etc., but this quieted down as the meal went on. The wine list has a good variety and is actually pretty reasonably priced. Overall, it was a very midlevel fine meal. I probably wouldn't plan a celebration for myself there but would attend others there. read more

Came in with the girlfriend on a Sunday night after wine tasting on Long Island. Not worth the money as they are getting too many things wrong. . Strike 1. Bread arrived and were shaped like twinkies and tasted sweet. We asked for "regular" bread which we were told they had, but unfortunately "no more" that evening. Really? It was 7:00 pm. Strike 2: Appetizer a goat cheese and beet salad with crusted pecans in a basil vinegrette dressing. Sugar, sugar sugar! Way too sweet as the dressing was sickly sweet AND the pecans were coated in sugar. NO BEETS. Some black currants but NO BEETS. Plus: Top neck clams were delicious appetizer! Plus #2 : Coconut Margherita - great drink for coconut lovers with toasted coconut on the rim. Yum. Minus: "Italian Margherita" take this off the menu or lower the price - it fell flat. Entree: 3/5 stars for the flatiron steak with "Jumbo" prawns. This was a 10 oz steak with a decent chimichurri sauce accompanied by 3 large prawns. It was represented ( by our waiter) as a 12 oz steak with 3 JUMBO prawns ( 2 inch or larger) not jumbo, but large. Tasty dish but NOT worth $54 and nothing special. Suggest you upsize the steak AND the prawns. Waiter attentive and kudos to management who changed our waiter and upgraded our table when the first waiter ( Mine) was inappropriately rude. Note: I'm a chef and former restaurant owner who RARELY gives 5 star reviews. I enjoy spending money on quality, but refuse to suffer mediocrity for my $. Sugary sweetness s/b saved for dessert and is a mark of LOW quality in main dishes and appetizers. Also is bad for health. The dining rooms are partitioned into separate smaller sections. We were seated in an area with 10 other tables. Food: traditional American/Italian/German? fare ... We ordered: Cornbread - complimentary and delicious! Baked Clams - 6 clams served in a pool of butter. Each clam is garnished with a piece of bacon. 4/5 Fried Calamari - moist and crunchy, but a little lacking in flavor. 3/5 Schnitzel - thin and perfectly battered and fried. Tricky review to write - if I'm rating on drinks and appetizers, it's an easy 5. If I'm rating on the mains, it's probably more like a 2. The Apple Cider Sangria is worth the trip alone - it is absolutely delicious! One of the most enjoyable drinks I've ever ordered. The Caesar salad and buffalo chicken spring rolls were also phenomenal. For the main, I had the chicken caprese and while I asked for no balsamic, I didn't realize that would mean it would literally just be chicken, mozzarella, and tomato with no sauce whatsoever (not the basil olive oil as advertised either) - making it pretty bland. My friend had the rigatoni melanzone and the sauce was very watery knocking down the flavor of the dish. Lesson learned - go heavy on the apps! read more

Jonathan's Restaurant is one amazing place. I don't exactly how long they've been here but the last thing I remember in its' place was Howard Johnsons. They are a fixture in our community and a constant participant in our charitable causes. Mix that with great food and that is a sure fire recipe for success. They have a great bar room which is the perfect place to hangout before dinner as well as after dinner or to just stop by and meet some friends before heading home. The are very conveniently located on Jericho Turnpike just west of Herrick's Rd. They have a parking lot behind the restaurant. Your greeted by a smiling hostess as soon as you walk in. They can get pretty busy so we always make reservations. Our last meal was during restaurant week. As always, we entered said hello, got checked in and were seated pretty quickly. There is a certain electricity in the air at Johnathans. People come here to really enjoy the dining experience, not just the great food. It's easy during restaurant week as the special menu's get a little shorter. We started the evening with a buffalo chicken spring roll and a pear salad. I just love the pairing of the gorgonzola cheese with the sweet pear just work so well together. Two delicious appetizers. My wife had the Chicken Marsala while I had the broiled Cod. Both of these dishes were so perfectly cooked. The cod, while a simple fish had such a great taste of the wine-butter sauce. The Chicken Marsala was tender, well cooked and has a amazing rich-tasty marsala sauce. I am sure we would have passed on dessert if it wan't for restaurant week. But hey, you can't turn away a Johnathan's dessert. My wife and I shared an Apple Cobble (YUM) and a whipped Chocolate Mousse, also a solid YUM. The service was impeccable throughout the entire dinner. The only thing I realized when we left is that we don't come here enough. Guess we'll have to break that habit. Second annual family Easter Dinner service - the food was superb once it managed to make it out to us the place of course was extraordinarily packed & reservations were delayed by over 30minutes ( good thing none had other plans to work in to their schedule) Under normal operating conditions Jonathan's is charming & even elegant affair between the beloved Mrs & myself.
