OVERVIEW:
1) Failed to glue PVC drain together.
2) Caused severe leak and ceiling fell in. Blamed leak on customer and declined to repair ceiling until a third party contractor inspected & photographed the leak.
3) After being caught in an untruth, repaired the leak they caused.
4) Lost my trust because of this and cost me additional money because I had to hire another HVAC company to inspect/correct because I could no longer trust JH&A.
DETAILS:
It makes me sad to share this. JH&A initially were very friendly and helpful. They even brought over a loaner window AC until they could service my home.
But the day we scheduled service, two men I had not met before showed up. They were polite but had to be reminded to do something. After they left, I realized they had done a minor thing incorrect and due to time constraints, I fixed it myself.
Fast forward about five weeks. My ceiling fell in due to a leak. My AC is in the attic. This time, Mr. Jones himself came out to inspect. Here is where the serious trouble started.
He initially blamed the leak on my pan, said it had "micro" holes that no one could have seen when they inspected/serviced my system a few weeks earlier.
At that time, he refused to repair the severe damage to my home office/guest room. I had JUST finished mold treatment a few DAYS prior to this new leak. I had also just renovated the room. So, serious money thrown at mold is now at risk of being futile.
Mr. Jones said I would need a new pan. This was absurd and I think now that he was just trying to get more money from me rather than the situation costing him money. A new pan would be very costly & the AC is already 16 years old. With the cost of a new pan and the service I had just paid for, I could have basically purchased a new system.
So...in a total state of panic, I had a contractor come on an emergency visit that evening.
His first words were: Why is the AC leaking to begin with? The pan is just an emergency feature but it shouldn't have a leak at all.
He inspected the AC in the attic and discovered that when JH&A installed a P-Trap, they FAILED TO GLUE THE PVC TOGETHER!!!! They also installed it in a way that was placing pressure on the pan and causing it to not be level. Mr. Jones had noted it not being level but blamed it on something else. Once the P-Trap was strapped up, it was fine. Totally level.
The leak wasn't even entirely over the pan, most of it was dripping straight onto my insulation and ceiling. Mr. Jones LEFT IT THAT WAY. He EASILY could have glued it when he was here. Why?
He cared not about how stressful this was to me. If he had just said, "I'm sorry, my guys made a mistake but I've fixed it and we're going to take care of the damage" then I would not be writing this bad review. I would actually still be their customer. Everyone makes mistakes, but how we deal with them reveals our true character.
Mr. Jones chose to leave my PVC unglued, the ceiling finally completely fell in on my husband and a BRAND new mattress while my husband was in a Zoom work meeting at a new job. Go ahead, laugh. We can now.
FINALLY, AFTER I sent Mr. Jones a picture of the PVC pipe leaking, with a drop of water on it, he THEN said he was sending a drywall person to repair the work AND he flew right over and fixed the leak. It took him less than five minutes to fix the leak and about .30 cent in material.
The drywall person he sent was EXCELLENT. He did an amazing job and you can't even tell it's patched. He repainted AND sent a cleaning team. He did the right thing but only AFTER he was caught in a lie.
We lost use of the room for about 9 days. We have to have the mattress cleaned ourselves. But all in all, this would certainly not have been a huge deal. But, it was made far more stressful than necessary. Full disclosure, I had NO patience for this after a summer of difficulty with contractors during a renovation and a relocation. I was totally stressed out by this point. I'm sure I wasn't pleasant to deal with. Repeatedly being mistreated will do that to a person.
What IS a huge deal is Mr. Jones coming out here and gaslighting a customer who he knew was on the verge of a nervous breakdown. I can't recommend a company that did this. He either initially lied OR he was unable to diagnose why my AC was leaking. Plus, the initial work was sloppy (boots too low for ceiling, PVC unglued, P-Trap not strapped).
Either way, it was sloppy work that was handled poorly so, sadly, I do not recommend this company. read more
