Just had one of the heating and air guys out to our house to take a look at our unit. Not only was he able to arrive early, but was very pleasant and worked quickly to establish what was wrong with our indoor unit. He was able to get our heat going in the meantime, while waiting on a quote for a replacement panel by tomorrow. He was knowledgable about what size system we should have for our house and able to offer more quotes if we wished to replace the unit entirely because of the many problems we had before and the fact that it was small for the size of our home. I had a number of bad experiences with this company over the years they serviced my unit fit about 5 years . Atvthe beginning , in 2021 the customer service was great but it rapidly went downhill over the years . Communication is poor , there were disputes over billing and even after the owner agreed that I'm entitled. For a refund it took months to get it and the billing person was extremely rude every time I spoke to her . I think her name is Sharon . Suffice to say that I stopped using the services if this company about a year ago because even their great technician Chris who serviced my unit and he was the only reason i stayed with this company this long , even he couldn't make up for all the issues that I had with this company . There are much better companies around . Go shop for them elsewhere if you want good customer service and good communication. read more

If I could give ZERO stars, then I would. We have been a customer with Albemarle Heating and Air for 6 years. Started out as a quality company for us. Now, fast forward to August 2025-worst customer service imaginable! Here's what our experience was on Wednesday, 8/21/25. Our 7-year old AC unit stopped working this evening. At 6:49 pm I called the Albemarle Heating and Air's 24/7 ADVERTISED after hours' service. The operator states, "If you don't receive a call back from the on-duty technician within one hour, then call us back." REALLY???? At 8:00 pm I still have not received a call from on-duty tech. I called the answering service AGAIN. The operator who answered said he had no idea why the on-duty tech had not called. He sent another text message out to have the on-duty technician call me. At this point our house is 80 degrees inside. We are miserable and so is our 7-year old dog. At 10:35 pm I receive a call from the Albemarle Heating and Air "back up" tech. He tells me he is the back up to the official on-call tech. He did at least offer to come help me, BUT HE LIVED ONE HOUR AWAY FROM OUR LOCATION!!! This was when I reached out to the OWNER of another HVAC company--a company we have never used before and we have no service agreement with. The OTHER HVAC COMPANY'S OWNER personally showed up at my doorstep on Thursday morning, 8/21/25, and had my AC running within 5 minutes! That OTHER COMPANY was MONTICELLO AIR. We needed a new motor for our HVAC unit (about $1,000 all-in). While we had a good experience with the service technicians, we were ultimately disappointed. The TL/DR is this: They don't honor their coupons. Pros: -The initial visit was prompt, the technicians were courteous, and the problem diagnosis was accurate. -The motor was repaired to our satisfaction (so far, at least). Cons: -We were told the repair technician would be out the following day; however, the technician didn't show up the following day, and we didn't receive a call updating us on the new motor's status. Better communication would have helped set expectations around how to plan my day. -Our biggest issue was the billing. When it came time to pay the bill, I presented them with a coupon that had been sent to the house discounting "any HVAC Service Repair by 20%." I was told that they would not honor the coupon they sent me because I had not told them of the coupon before the work was done. Nowhere on the coupon or anywhere on the postcard mailing does it say that the coupon needed to be presented before service. I told them that this was not mentioned in their mailer, but the young woman (who was very nice) said she was told not to honor the coupon. We had already paid the diagnostic fee and initial service call. We were looking for the 20% off of the actual HVAC service repair, which would have been a savings of $150. What is the point of sending coupons without a plan to honor them? Even though we now have a service plan with them, I am seriously considering not returning to them and would not be likely to recommend them to friends or family, unfortunately. read more

I'm having mixed feelings about AHA. We needed a replacement system and Dan the sales representative was knowledgeable, friendly and upfront with our options. We made our selection and paid 40% upfront. The installation was scheduled and the installers arrived on time. They were both professional and efficient. Both guys had great attitudes were easy to work with. However it's the after the installation that my view of AHA has changed. We scheduled our quality follow up appointment. The day of the appointment they never came or called to reschedule. After contacting the company we were informed that we were not on the schedule at all. The "excuse " was perhaps a software problem or update. The wasted time I spent at home can never be returned. I had things that I should have been doing instead of waiting for a no show company......I only hope they can make the next appointment.. read more

Had a horrible experience and extremely unsatisfied. I scheduled someone coming in for an estimate, the person was rude and was not sensitive to COVID protocol as I was explained to on the phone. He was condescending, disrespectful, and was not willing not help. I ended up had to do the heavy lifting work (checking the furnace heater on the attic and such). Did not provide a thorough explanation, the actual estimate was poorly written and poorly explained. Felt like I was serving him, WOULD NOT recommending this company. read more

This review is going to be rather long, it will be worth the read if you are looking to have your HVAC replaced. So to start we reached out to Albemarle Heating and Air based on a recomendation from a smaller HVAC company in the Charlottesville area. They raved that for the large scale job we needed completed this company would be perfect. I contacted their office and an appointment was made. Justin came out completed his "inspection" I put inspection in quotation considering the fact that he did not even get measurments of the underneath of the house while on site. I find it would be difficult to provide a proper estimate for a full HVAC and duct replacement without having the measurments for the area you would be working. Inspection was completed on a Tuesday. By Friday morning when we had not heard anything back we reached out to Justin and received no response. I reached out to the office Friday afternoon. I spoke with a woman who I beleive her name was Debra or Debbie and she told me she would try and reach out to Justin. Monday came and went and we still had heard nothing. I called the office again on the Tuesday, now a week after the assessment was done. Spoke with the woman again and she told me that she would personally reach out to Justin and figure out what was going on. Tuesday came and went and we still heard nothing. We finally heard back from Justin 10 days after the assessment. I am also in the industry that provides estimates. We have never waited 10 days before reaching out to a customer. Even if the estimate was not finished we always keep in contact. When Justin finally reached out he still did not have an estimate and told my husband that he had not started an estimate because he did not have measurements of the underneath. He threw out a price between $18,000 and $20,000. Mind you this price was given based on a half crocked inspection. TO THIS DAY we still have not received an estimate. Our inspection happened weeks ago. We contacted the orginal HVAC company who reccomended them and told them we would never work with a company that was this careless. The HVAC company came out the next day, did their assessment and provided an estimate that was $10,000 CHEAPER. $10,000 that is insane. My husband and I were fully prepared to spend the $20,000 to have the unit replaced. Just to be ignored. I am so glad things did not work out with this company and we are having the orginal company complete the work. I certainly hope this is a direct reflection on the tech who did the assessment and not the company as a whole. read more

My children told me that the AC wasn't working upstairs where their bedrooms are located. It was 91 degrees outside and it was quickly heating up inside. I called Albemarle Heating and Air. They found the technician who had serviced our home for the previous owner. He spent 20 minutes on the phone with me and walked me thru a number of steps that enabled me to get the system working again. He gave me his cell number and encouraged me to call him at any time if we needed additional help. I can't describe how professional and impressive the technician was. The woman who answered the phone was also super pleasant and helpful. My children are sleeping upstairs in properly air conditioned rooms as I write this. However, Bill checked everything out and made some excellent recommendations. He was also knowledgeable about the home from previous owners. They may be one of the biggest HVAC companies in the area, but they won't stay there long with the customer service they have demonstrated in my case. We had our home HVAC on their annual maintenance program. Faxed in my annual renewal a month ago, and wrote right below the CC #, "call me at XXX-XXX-XXXX to schedule my seasonal tune-up" never heard from them. But, they had no trouble reading my credit card # and charging me. Maybe their staff is numerate but illiterate? Over two weeks ago I called to schedule my appointment. The scheduler was not in, so I left a voice message with all my details and call back info. No call back. Got hot again, and I remember they never called. I called again to schedule my appointment and they said the next available tune up appointment was THREE WEEKS out. I called that company that has the annoying jingle with their ads and they gave me my choice of times within 48 - 72 hours. Hmm...three week wait for someone who acts like they don't need my business or someone who can't wait to help me. Called AHA to cancel my contract. They had the nerve to ask if there was anything the could do to keep my business -- hmmm...maybe read the information I sent with payment. Maybe return an appointment request call left a week ago. Maybe not tell me I have to wait three weeks when you blew the first to chances to keep my business. The service industry is all about how you recover from the mistakes you make. Making more of them is not recovering, it's compounding. read more

ABSOLUTELY NOT RECOMMENDED! As one who holds a law degree (Juris Doctor), and a federal investigator, I deal in facts and not sentiments. Here are the plain facts. This company sent a service tech to my house to deal with an AC problem. Just a few days later, the AC malfunctioned again. I asked the company to send a tech back out to correct the problem since obviously the issue had not been effectively resolved considering that the AC malfunctioned again just a few days later. I communicated with both the front desk person and the tech who came out to my house, explaining that I would not pay the "evaluation fee" since this was a quality assurance call. When the second tech left my house, he told me that there was nothing he could do and that I should consider purchasing either a new AC unit or a remodeled unit from their company, either of which would be several thousand dollars. The front desk clerk ignored my attempts to follow up with her for well over a month. I subsequently contacted management. That was totally useless, as they were clearly not interested in "making things right" by me as they promised. As it turns out, my tenant -- who is not an AC tech -- actually discovered that the problem was simply debris accumulation and he simply took a few minutes to clean the pan out. The AC has been working fine ever since (two months or so ago this summer). I paid the $95 "evaluation/assessment fee" just to avoid damaging my stellar credit record. The bottom line: This company tried to sell me a product for several thousand dollars when their tech, a so-called professional, failed to competently detect a simple debris problem and fix it. The company made no reasonable effort to correct the situation, which could have avoided this negative review. My tenant, himself a businessman in Charlottesville, has decided that he would never use this company following this experience. I would NEVER recommend Albemarle Heating & Air. Furthermore, I would caution any reasonably intelligent person who cares about saving potentially thousands of dollars and getting top quality service to STAY CLEAR of this company. Don't be fooled by superficial courtesy. It may cost you plenty down the road. read more

The technician arrived before 4:00, diagnosed and addressed the problem within an hour and gave us a general assessment on future work that may need to be done (it is an old unit and getting a little quirky so this was helpful and we are considering some follow-up preemptive maintence so we don't end up without A/C on another very hot day(s)!) I've been lied to repeatedly and still have the same problem no one seems to be able to fix for over a year now. Adam S. gave my heating system a tune-up today, advised me on how to prolong the life of my old unit, how to prepare for the inevitable with a free estimate by Albemarle Heating and Air, and took the time to explain to me how the unit works (no one had ever taken the time to do that before!). He was friendly to my son and very communicative, calling in advance with his ETA, and while he was in my home he kept me informed of what he was doing next. Adam also noticed I had a dehumidifier that is known to cause fires and alerted me to that and helped me sign up for a free replacement which will be shipped to my home! I've never had such a friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful heating and A/C technician before and highly recommend Adam (and therefore Albemarle Heating and Air). read more

The second time, I got as far as a conversation with a customer service rep, who offered me a service appointment. When I wrote back to take it, apparently nothing happened. We used to be very pleased with their services, but this summer has been a nightmare! Two visits and $800 later and the unit still doesn't work. I couldn't get the technician to even look at the unit last time. It was "too hot". I understand that it is really hot but that is why I need your help in fixing our AC unit! They installed a complete HVAC system and I said I would add an electronic air cleaner later. When I could afford the air cleaner, I asked for a price through Trane. Nothing. I went to the office 3 times, exchanged phone calls. No price. A year later, again I asked for a price through Trane. Nothing. A week later I went into the office again. They said they would ask the parts man to get a price. Nothing. My system broke down on a Friday night. I called for a technician. He said he could come out and look, but would not fix it until Tuesday, after Christmas. I now do business with a different Trane dealer. read more

Extremely happy with the service. Bryan and other techs that have helped us get our system fixed up have been great. When you get an ESA contract, they will call you and get this scheduled prior to the heating and cooling season unlike others. Also, they really diagnose and solve problems unlike the random parts replacement method that other providers use. We will stay with these guys! read more

Contacted AHA about a leaking air handler. First diagnostician needed to talk to "Carlos", who was supposed to then call me. After a couple days with no call, I called Carlos, who had no idea what I was talking about. Carlos then needed to send a 2nd diagnostician out to the house, meanwhile the temperature is 100 degrees here in Virginia, and I am without a/c. I called Carlos, and left a message but he never returned my call. 2nd diagnostician comes out and apparently fixes unit, but I had questions for Carlos, since I was not at the house when the 2nd guy worked on the unit. I left another message on Carlos's voicemail several days ago, but have yet to hear from him. I also left an additional message for Carlos during the early days of the ordeal. Suffice it to say that Carlos apparently does not return any of his voicemails, so better hope you never have to deal with him, and he is apparently the boss! read more
