Tonight's temperature was minus 5 degrees. Jimmy North and his Team at AirFlow Systems in Charlottesville, VA installed an entire new system in my home in February 2017. Not only has my electric bill dropped by almost half, the comfort of our home is unbelievably consistent year round. He had NO PRESSURE sales and does NOT RIP you off or over charge. His prices for the EXACT same system was several thousand dollars less expensive than TWO other competitors in the area. Once completed there were no up sale tactics. I love my new Trane AC/Heat Pump, Trane LP Gas furnace system. It barely runs and keeps the home toasty. Thank you Air Flow Systems for getting it right. Also, prior to this new Trane system, AirFlow Systems has been regularly maintaining my old system. When it needed parts he did not mark them up. When I asked why Jimmy said he didn't believe. I doubled checked the relay they replaced one time and a capacitor another time and I could NOT find it anywhere on the Internet cheaper for the EXACT same parts. An OVERTIME visit was QUICK and $25 more than their normal hourly rate. When the old system went down, I asked for an estimate to replace and upgrade the entire system...and well you've read the rest of the story. They were great to work with and we never had reason to suspect their business practices in the past. Something has changed, though, and now we wonder how a small equipment replacement could possibly come in over 200% higher than the cost for the same installation seven years ago. We understand inflation has increased cost as well as supply chain issues, and we support and hope employees are receiving competitive wages, however, inflation over the course of the past 7 years amounts to about 31% , not 200%. The bill we received was priced as one lump sum and when we requested an itemized breakdown of labor and material, we were told the bill was itemized. This review is not about the quality of Airflow's work, which remains high, but rather their business practices. To avoid misunderstandings, even if you've worked with them for many years, it's best to request a full and complete estimate of their services before they begin work.

I called and An appointment was scheduled, promptly, for the next day. Our service technician was Leo, who was very courteous and knowledgeable. He performed a diagnostic check on the unit and after a short period of time, had it performing perfectly again. He took photos to show the problem to be a loose connection, most likely from the manufacturer. The upstairs is now cool again. I really appreciated Leo's kindness and explanation of the problem! I am grateful for his expertise and will recommend Robertson's and Leo to anyone needing expert service for their heating and A/C needs!

When my AC went out again with the same issue (blowing, no cold air), they said I needed a whole new unit. Again, it was quick, on time, but very expensive. When my heat went out WITH THE SAME ISSUE (blowing, no warm heat), they said I would need to replace my furnace. I knew that was not true because I had heat upstairs. I will leave it to you to decide whether you think they are incompetent or they ripped me off... or both. I would never use them again nor would I recommend them. They are not trustworthy. I can't have people IN YOUR HOUSE who are not trustworthy. And I can't do business with people who think that I am too stupid to ask questions. It's now 6 months later and the same issue is happening again. The new HVAC company is telling me that the new unit is fried because it was incorrectly wired. The new outdoor unit that they installed is incompatible with the indoor unit so the computer can't speak with the other one. It's also too big for my duct work, so it can't work and has to be replaced.

We had several quotes and ultimately decided to go with AHA because they contract with Trane. My experience with their service has never been an issue. All of their technicians are fine. We had one instance where our motor went out during last years ice storm and had to go with another company who could use their own personal 4 wheel drives to get it us to replace the motor. My experience with getting the quote from Dan was great. He is very knowledgeable and approaches quotes in a very helpful and common sense manner. I valued his input and how thorough he was. My experience with the technicians who installed our HVAC was great. They were wonderful to have in our home and we enjoyed interacting with them. My one and only issue with AHA is with their accounting person, Sharon Jenkins. About a week after the HVAC was installed I received an email from Sharon asking for more money for the install. I explained to her that the quote was $x and the final bill came out to be LESS THAN THE QUOTE. I even supplied the final invoice that I paid in full showing the difference thinking "oh she just needs to update her side to reflect the final amount". This is not uncommon and actually speaks volumes of Dan to over quote by just a little and have the customer a bit happier. After explaining the nuances of her job to her she was outright rude and refused to understand HER job. She incorrectly tried to say that the quote is the contract amount but didn't acknowledge the final invoice. Unwilling to go back and forth I contacted their customer service and was immediately told I was correct and my account was zeroed out. My advice to AHA is to part ways with Sharon. After reading a lot of reviews and speaking with people in my neighborhood it is a common theme that their only issue with AHA is having to interact with her. One person in fact said they went with another company solely because they refuse to ever speak to Sharon again. I would also suggest that AHA do a full investigation into her previous interactions with other customers. Were there customers in the past that didn't know any different and she was able to get that extra $$? Is this a systemic problem? Are their books in order? Where is this extra money going? As a customer it is not my responsibility to explain basic accounting to the accountant. I see her behavior as a giant red flag for any business. This review would be 5 stars if AHA had a different accountant who was actually kind and knew how to do her job.

Communication is poor , there were disputes over billing and even after the owner agreed that I'm entitled. For a refund it took months to get it and the billing person was extremely rude every time I spoke to her . I think her name is Sharon . Suffice to say that I stopped using the services if this company about a year ago because even their great technician Chris who serviced my unit and he was the only reason i stayed with this company this long , even he couldn't make up for all the issues that I had with this company . There are much better companies around . Go shop for them elsewhere if you want good customer service and good communication.
