This is a very nice campground. I appreciate the shrubs and trees between the campsites. They're kind of spindly yes but it does define where you are and it makes the stay feel a little bit more private. They have lots of things to do for the kids and I imagine it is just perfect during the summertime. The bathrooms are clean and well functioning. Here's the best part about the campground. We had dinner at their cafe. We both ordered a wedge salad and sandwiches. The salad was fresh and tasty. The hamburger was the best my wife ever had. Fresh cooked bacon, great tomato, blue cheese. Large burger cooked perfectly. If I lived in the area we would come here often for dinner. Check in was the best I have experienced. He was waiting for me at an entrance kiosk as I drove up. A staff member greets you at the front gate, checks you in and leads you to your site. There are lots of trees and most are trimmed; however, we did snag a couple on turns when we left. The sites are gravel and dirt, and they could definitely use more gravel. We were in a "deluxe" site. A pull thru with a brick fire pit, a couple of adirondack chairs and a glass topped table with 4 chairs. All the chairs and table were dirty. This was not a $95 deluxe site IMO. The site was plenty long enough for a 45 MH and tow vehicle, and we did not need to unhook. Sites are nearby with some grass and trees between sites. There is no privacy. Some sites have more space between them than others. Some sites are on Swatara Creek. It's a pretty wide for a creek and a big attraction for swimming and kayak/canoe. Sites on the creek are parallel parked (head to toe not side to side). Be prepared for lots of mosquitoes. This KOA attracts many weekend warriors and kids (there are many activities for them). There is lots of stirred up gravel dust when cars/RVs go by. We didn't try the WiFi as it has very limited access. They also have cable but we didn't try it. It is very noisy from I-81 and Lickdale Road with loads of souped up trucks. They have an on-site deli that serves wings, salads, sandwiches and burgers. They also have Turkey Hill ice cream in all sorts of flavors and sundaes. The store is fairly well stocked with RV items as well as grocery essentials. There are a couple of fast food restaurants within walking distance. There are also a couple of gas stations. Good Verizon coverage. read more

This was a nice KOA to stay at. It was clean and the playground was nice and big and kept the kids busy. My only complaint would be the "restaurant." It was basically gas station food. If you've ever gotten a burger or pizza from a gas station, you know exactly what I'm talking about. read more

Overall, we had a good trip to this KOA. We chose this location due to it's proximity to Hershey (30 minutes) and Lancaster County (45 minutes). The staff was friendly and the campground seemed pretty well kept. I didn't experience any of the poor treatment from the staff referenced in previous reviews. In fact, they went out of their way to be helpful. The store is well-stocked with very good hours. The ice cream stand is great. There are several reasons for the average rating. The camp spots are what I refer to as "KOA close." This is not abnormal for KOAs, but our fire ring was so close to the adjacent site that there was no way a camp chair could be placed between it and the neighbor's slide out. With a little more thoughtful placement of things, the sites may seem a little more separated. There was a lot of road noise - more than expected. The fans in the shower areas seem to be operating at about 10%, so it was hot and humid in the bathrooms. There seem to be several long-term campers here. I ran into 2-3 people who were not friendly at all. I don't suppose everyone has to be friendly, but it sure would be nice. They have a spray park, but no pool. Finally, like most campgrounds, the Wi-Fi is bad in certain locations. With all this, I just didn't see the value in relation to the prices KOA charges. We'd return if there were no other options, but I think next time we'll try somewhere else. read more

It's okay but could be better. The sites are decent size and they do have a stuff for kids like a playground, waterpad area and some other things. The employees in the store are not personable and a few of them actually seem rude. The cooked food is kinda pricey. The shower/restrooms are nice and so is the laundry room. We have stayed in KOAs in many states, this is one of our favorites. The staff is extremely nice and accommodating, has a well stocked general store, and beautiful grounds. What won us over was our first morning watching them carefully disinfect each of the recently vacated sites. They have a golf cart with cleaning products and they clean everything. So nice given the covid times we live in. Can't speak for every location but our pull-through was gravel and was level. Yes it's ~20 minutes further from Harrisburg than we might prefer, but it's an easy drive down route 81. It is near Indiantown Gap but it's rare that you will hear noise from the base. I grew up ~15 mins from here so that was consistent over a period of many years. Very close to Swatara State Park and we enjoyed both the north and south loop. We do not use on-site laundry (although the room was clean as we walked by) or bathrooms. read more

Overall good experience, but could have been so much better with a few tweaks. Pros: not far off of interstate 81 and the area has gas and a Wendy's if you want to grab a quick bite. Several things to keep kids entertained for a while. Clean, quiet and decent sites. Cons: all staff we encountered, office,store, ice cream, were very young and not very helpful. 1st time ever checking in that we had to find our own site. Very young girl who checked us in just gave me a map and that was it. When pulling a 5th wheel you don't want to take a wrong turn in a tight space. Young men working in ice cream area were very nice but wearing dirty koa shirts which wasn't very appealing. So overall good experience and if a more mature staff were in place would have given 4-5 stars. read more

We recently stayed there early March 2022. Park was littered and roads were muddy, no lights and huge stones placed on corners. It was nearly impossible to leave in the dark without any lighting. I got hung up on one of them. Sites are close together and they put another rig right on top of us in the middle of the night while the whole park was vacant. Girl on phone was rude and the young boy in office was arrogant. The only good part of the stay was the young guy who lead us to our site. He was very polite and helpful. I did a review on the official KOA website for Hershey/Jonesboro but they deleted it. I would not recommend this RV park. read more

We were happy to find a year-round campground since it's January. It's a nice enough campground. Usually KOA campgrounds have better stores than this one. Amenities that are important to me: cable & wifi which are both good here. They do restrict bandwidth but that didn't hinder us. I was shocked to discover the water pressure is almost non-existent in the restrooms. This was while no one else was using either restroom, I was the only bather. Do not try to wash your hair if you have thick hair, you'll just be frustrated. On the upside, the bathroom was very clean. We travel for my husband's work so his dirty clothes are actually dirty. The washers are "meh" and the dryers really only work for half a load. Its a pleasant campground with lots of trees and a nice playground. The kids in the office are friendly but the older lady who answered the phone after the office closed (7:30pm, called at 8pm not realizing Ofc was closed) was most definitely NOT. This KOA is good what what we did, stopped for an overnight on the way somewhere. It is right off the interstate with several gas and food options close by. The staff was friendly and the campground itself was nice enough. I would not want to park here for more than a night or two and certainly would consider it as a destination but as stated, it was a good place to stop for the night after a long day on the road. read more

The campgrounds were just recovering from river floods. Literally within minutes of our arrival our riverside camping spots were opened. All is well with full hookups. Our first day we traveled 1 and 1/4 hr to Intercourse for the shoppes. Very nice and full day. Will go exploring to Hersey tomorrow. Each evening we get ice cream from the KOA office and sit on the rocking chairs. Enjoying this place more. read more

The four of us loved everything about it!! Enjoyed miniature golf, running through the splash pad (even us adults!), the incredibly well-stocked store and it's beautiful porch, the clean showers and laundry room, as well as the patio setup of our campsite right by the water. It was peaceful and incredibly well maintained and the staff was great! Couldn't find a thing wrong with it, except that it is about 25-30 minutes from Hershey Park, so if that's your destination for the day and you don't have a car, expect to pay about $35 one way for an Uber. But Ubers are readily available, so it really wasn't a big deal for us. Would come back anytime! read more

This RV park is older and has some, well, many long term residents. But it is pretty well kept and friendly. The lady in the office was very nice, and let us stay an extra day as we had a tire problem and couldn't get back on the road on time. It's not upscale nor does it have lots of amenities, but it has large enough sites and is a good place without spending a fortune to explore Hershey. read more

I'd like to start off with the fact that I, nor my family, ever expected or wanted a refund from this place. I would instead hope that with this review, future potential customers of Jonestown KOA are aware of this place's unprofessional and rude attitudes toward their customers. I rented a travel trailer at Jonestown KOA and stayed there with my parents from July 4 to July 7, 2020. As soon as we arrived at the site, we went to the office to retrieve our keys before finding the trailer. The doors were unlocked upon our arrival, but we noticed that the keys we were given were not the right keys, causing us to not be able to lock the doors. We went back to the office and were given another set of keys, in which upon coming back to the trailer, noticed that they were once again an incorrect match. The facilities of both the site and the trailer were okay. The problem lied in the cleanliness of them. The travel trailer had a distinctive moldy smell, almost like an old cellar. It was clear to the naked eye that the place was not cleaned properly. Ants and spiders were crawling around, spiderwebs were laced around the corners of the room, and there was even a large dead mosquito left stuck on one of the cabinets. We asked the worker if it was cleaned and he confirmed that it was, but offered us a cleaning lady to be called. When she came, the only thing she brought with her was a duster and did nothing more than wipe the dust away from the top of the surfaces in the trailer before leaving in less than five minutes. Despite our commentary on the state of the trailer, the owner came by later and offered no apology and instead just told us that if the place was not up to our standards, we can receive a full refund within an hour of our stay. The travel trailer came with a bed and an air mattress. There was a hole in the air mattress, causing me to have to pump air back in it every 10 minutes. The air mattress, combined with the ants that were biting me throughout the night, resulted in me not able to get a fair night's sleep. My mother took out a pot to make coffee the next morning. The whole handle was made of very heat conductive material (thin plastic-like metal). Not long after she placed the pot filled with water onto the stove, she slightly grabbed the handle of the pot. The pot was so hot that she let go of the handle, causing a large first-degree burn on her hand. We then took the pot and went to the office, clearly expressing our shock and frustration. Safety risks should be considered, and it is common knowledge to use the handle of the pot to move it. As soon as we told her about the situation, the worker immediately said with an attitude in her voice, "So you want a refund." Her first words were that. There was no "are you okay," or "I'm sorry." She immediately went in asking if we wanted a refund. I followed up by asking how could you say that first when someone got hurt. She replied with, "So you don't want a refund." After that, I went through a heated argument with her. During this conversation, my mother (who speaks Korean) asked me to relay that we didn't bring this pot here to fight, but to instead notify them about the harm this pot could cause to future customers and don't want anyone else getting hurt the same way. The worker kept talking back, saying that she couldn't do anything until the owner came. I asked for her name and the boss. She told me the name of the boss (Tammy) and her own name (which I forget). She followed up by, "I'm the owner's daughter. Why, did you want to report me? Cause that won't work, other people tried that too." I said that we just didn't want this to happen to other people. The owner came later that afternoon. Again, without any apology, she provided us with another air mattress, the correct set of keys, and a pot. The only thing she said was, "That's all you need, right?" The third day rained extremely hard. We were told on the first day that in a situation where it rained, the awning on the outside of the trailer needed to be closed. While trying to close the awning, we accidentally pressed a button that retracts the expandable part of the trailer, squishing the bed to the point where we were not able to get across. When we tried to extend the room again by pressing the button the other way, it would not budge. Because the button was not working, we called someone over to help fix it. He strongly stated that he won't do anything until the rain stops. Fortunately, it stopped raining after one hour. He came back and manually expanded, and because we were still thankful, we gave him a tip. Overall, the lack of respect and attitude the workers (and owner) showed toward me and my family was not acceptable. Customer service is a given for such businesses and if they are too prideful to even offer one apology, I do not want myself or anyone else to spend $160 a night benefiting this business. read more

I think in a different spot I would give this park a much higher rating. Like others have said there is loud road noise (to be expected for the convenience close to I-81). We were "assigned" no. 28. My opinion it's the worst spot in the park! Keep in mind, this is off peak and only about 1/4 full. When asked about the creekside spots I was told "you just ask for them". Seems to me you wouldn't assign the worst spot when your park is mostly empty. How would I know to ask? read more

One last stop in the states before crossing over into Canada. Hubby found this place and wanted to check it out. As soon as we pulled in, we were impressed with this KOA resort. This is not your average KOA. It has tubing, restaurant, ice cream parlor, General store, panning for gold, tubing and the list goes on. The sites are extremely well maintained. When the sun disappeared into the mountains, kids discovered the abundance of firefly to chase and make their hands glow as if fairies when captured. The staff was extremely helpful and happy to automatically guide us in a golf cart to our spot. She quickly hopped off to, greet us with a smile, and ask if we had any questions. Pull through site in a well shaded and very leveled area had a concrete area with picnic table and fire ring ready to go. The playground area is good sized with a swing bench for the adults relax as the kids burn energy. Bathrooms and showers were very clean but the laundry room has a very bad odor. I have stayed here two times and plan to return. The staff was friendly and inviting both times. The sites are gravel and level. The spacing is pretty good, too. I highly recommend their food delivery. The chicken and BBQ were good and they brought it right to our site. We ordered and the food was there as soon as we finished our hookups. The first time I stayed there, I arrived close to closing time for the food delivery. I called to place my order and got a very pleasant woman (no attitude about it being close to closing time) and the food was hot and fresh when it arrived. Next time, I may request a site along the river. I prefer the convenience of being close to the highway. But, sometimes you can hear some traffic noise. Would love to say we loved it. We had some of the regular camping experiences. When we were hooking up to leave we had a catastrophic failure in our trailers suspension. We had to add a day to our trip and deal with thousands of dollars in repairs. We spoke with the owner about leaving our rig overnight. We shook hands and I thought we were good. The next day I see he charged us for another day. Well thanks a lot. You could have told us before we started our 4 hour trip home. So now when we come back to get our trailer from the shop we will find another place to stay. Kind to your face while taking money from your wallet. Well it's back to mom and pops for us. Excellent experience here. Everyone friendly and helpful. Extremely clean, landscaped, no muddy spots. Nice gravel on spots with frequent use. On site restaurant can deliver 3 hot meals a day to your trailer. Also has ice cream place. Friendly staff. Kids playground. Great dog park- clean, no mud, lots of room to run, securely fenced, bags and trash can provided. It's by a road but we only heard road noise in the dog park. Our site was on the river with a great view. They offer Shuttle service to Hershey Park. We did 3 loads of laundry and machines worked perfectly. Cleanest laundry mat I've seen in 10 states. Big tables to fold laundry. $1.75 a load. They offer a storage parking lot if you want to leave your RV a few days and take a side trip. We were baffled by the bad reviews and asked a seasonal resident, who said they really turned this place around. We are definitely coming back. read more

I was so disappointed in how the owner of this business treated myself and friends who were tubing the swatty and getting out on his property which we've done for years with no problems. Not once have we left trash or used questionable language to make campers feel uncomfortable. 5 of us got out of the water and we're walking to our truck when the owner came up to us and insulted us immediately asking if we were retarded for parking there and getting out of the water on his property. His demeanor was crude and belittling. We apologized through clinched teeth and left.... Thinking that was the end of ever dealing with the owner, we came back up to our water side property which a few weeks later to find our gate was taken down and a van backed up to the stairs that lead to the water. With who else driving it..... The owner of the KOA. He has the audacity to charge campers $30 to break the law and access private property take a tube and go downstream to get out where we got out. None of this would have been such an issue if he would have treated people with respect and wasn't hypocritical ass that he was a few weeks earlier. There are million other camp grounds around lickdale within a 20 mile vicinity, I would avoid his at all cost. read more

This is probably the best KOA campgrounds we have stayed at so far, in our 6 years of camping. The pads are gravel, but level. The full hookup was within easy reach of the RV. The park was full of yhings for children to do, jump pad, water pads and swings, slides, etc. The food was delicious and the hosts were informative and friendly. I will try to plan my future trips around stopping here again. By the way, the shuttle to and from Hershey Park is reason enough for staying here overnight! read more

Rather small, family owned KOA but the owners will go above and beyond to make you feel like their family. The on-site ice cream stand and carry-out menu is a bonus. The sites are not very private - typical of many KOAs we have stayed in but they are well-kept and clean. The bathhouses and other facilities are also well-kept. The Swatara Creek flowing along the perimeter makes for a very scenic atmosphere. During Guard weekends, the noise from the overhead military helicopters can be annoying but that is out of the owners' control. Lots of activities planned for kids of all ages - We camp here several times a year for their events and proximity to hiking the Appalachian Trail and near by county/state parks that are accessible from a campground trail on the property as well as the tubing. There is no pool but swimming in the Swatara is permitted. As others have stated, it is easily accessible to I-81 and is open year round which makes it very convenient for travelers but you will encounter some road noise. However, it doesn't usually bother our group that camps there. read more

I have only been camping for a few years and typically try to stay with a KOA. The one thing you need to realize about this property it is literally on a main road. The road noise is awful and you feel like you are parked on the side of a freeway. The actual grounds are as bad as it gets , poorly maintained and nothing attractive in any way. I also had an incident with the owner , she is beyond rude! The staff was very helpful but after meeting her and asking a question she was beyond embarrassingly nasty! When I told her I was going to call KOA corporate she said she couldn't care less. Property and Management stink!!!!! read more

Oh boy...where to start! I drove cross-country to be with family and then was driving back to go home. I am unfamiliar with the different states and what they have to offer. I wanted to pull off of the road early because of so much deer country. I saw the KOA sign and decided I'd better get here to see if anything was available for a tent before I went to have dinner. The young guy was so helpful and friendly. He took me to my tent sight and showed me where I was going to stay. I told him it was very nice and went to eat at the McDonald's. I got back to the site and started to try to get Wi-fi and called a couple of friends to let them know where I was. I noticed that there was nobody else around and the closest RV/trailers were pretty far from me. It was pitch black with NO lights whatsoever and I was closer to a river than a stream. I called the office and the owner answered (Tammy Bulch). I explained to her that I was out by myself in my car as nobody else came here in a tent and I felt unsafe because I couldn't get my Wi-fi to work. I told her I would like to move closer to be with everyone else or I'd have to leave. She immediately was rude and told me that she couldn't understand why I was having trouble with the Wi-fi since nobody else was having trouble. She also told me that I could leave, but without my money. She lied and said that I chose the site by the stream and that I had been there for several hours. I told her I knew nothing about a stream until I was shown my site and I was not there for hours. So, I moved close to the office and I called the police's non-emergency number. She called me back while I was on the phone with them and left a message that she would be charging me an electric hook-up site price if I stayed. I called back and got another woman who I tried to explain what happened, that I called the police and that I wanted a refund so I could leave. She wasn't very nice either, but she told me she would talk to the owner and then she told me that the owner would be by to refund my money. I waited a very long time. There were three young guys around their car and everything was closed. I waited more and finally an older man came by in a golf cart. He told me that I was being refunded the money except for a $5 day charge because I had been there for so long. He also told me that I had to leave NOW. He then talked to the young men and I got my things together and as I was driving off, the guys waved at me. I don't care because I wouldn't want to stay there anyway after the way I was treated. In hindsight, I think they took so much time because there might be a time limit in which they can charge that day usage. I drove off and slept elsewhere out later than what I wanted. But, there is another KOA and I wish I had driven a bit longer to reach that one. So, as soon as I could, I called the KOA Corporate office. I spoke to Rebecca and Skyla. They told me that KOA Corporate takes no responsibility for treatment of KOA customers because the campgrounds are not theirs. They are under the KOA name, but not their jurisdiction to do what KOA wants them to do. I repeated that it is still KOA's reputation out there and still, there is nothing they can do. So, this owner and whoever the guy is, can treat people with such disrespect, keep some of their money AND continue to run a KOA camp! KOA Corporate owner!!!!!! Hear this!!!! I DO hold you accountable for this. There is no way a customer should be treated like this. I drove many states in 6 days so I don't need "streams" or to be close to Hershey Park which I'm not visiting, or to be left alone without any lights and not be able to feel safe in a campground with YOUR corporate name on it. This owner is a bad owner and needs to be held accountable for her actions...She was rude for the simplest request...wanting help with the Wi-fi and giving me a SAFE spot to stay. I don't think that is a reason to be treated less than a good, responsible customer. Whatever your issues are here at Jonestown/Hershey KOA, you need to get over them. For the public, just drive a little bit further to another KOA camp. Maybe I need to write to Hershey Park and let them know that a campground that has visitors because of its close proximity to them is bad and they should maybe consider having a KOA park of their own. read more
