Brisket and cornbread side with baked beans ‍

Love this place! If you're feeling bbq in Ojai this is the spot to hit! Amy is one of the most passionate people I've met and they also serve up food on Wednesday at the Ojai brewery if you're feeling bbq and a nice cold one with music.

Brisket. Get the full pound...it will go fast.

We are solid BBQ fans and Joplin's is the best we have had in SoCal. Granted, its not Texas or Carolina good, so keep it in perspective. The brisket was good, but could've used a little more smoke. The pulled pork is the real standout--moist, flavorful and pulled just right. Its a small place with good service and very good BBQ. Side note, get the garlic slaw but skip the fries--tasty, but a tiny portion.

Such a gem. Unique rock n roll ambience and menu with chef Saw's take on BBQ. Loved the brisket noodles with garlic chili oil, sausage and fries. Excited to come back next time we're in town!

My husband and I came in right when Joplin's opened, and instantly fell in love with the gothic rock-and-roll vibe. It's such a true reflection of the owners--cool, welcoming, and absolutely full of personality. This is the kind of place where you instantly feel safe and included, where all people are welcome (yes, even the pop lovers). Now, the burger... yes. It's so good I genuinely considered ordering a second while I was still eating the first. They know how brisket should be made, they know their sides, and they clearly know what they're doing in the kitchen. Ojai is lucky to have these two dedicated hospitality talents. They're bringing a much-needed edge to the community, and you can feel how much heart they're pouring into creating something special for everyone to enjoy. Highly recommend.

BBQ Chicken Caesar salad and BBQ Brisket Ramen.

Exactly what I want in a BBQ restaurant. Funky fun decor, always love a Pink Floyd poster, comfortable outdoor picnic tables, dog friendly and the food is amazing. The hostess was very knowledgeable and helpful with food choices, she also had a sassy attitude which we enjoyed. My sister got the Caesar salad with barbecue chicken and I got brisket Ramen. The Caesar salad was delicious, a tangy dressing with crispy lettuce and chicken was perfect. I am still thinking about the flavor profile of the Ramen from the jammy soy egg to the best BBQ brisket, noodles with the chew I love and oh the broth. We were doing our food happy dance and talking about our next visit to Joplin's.

Came in for opening night- it was FANTASTIC. We will be going back again soon to try the rest of the menu! Reservations (RESY) Recommended! We sat in a booth in the smallish inside dining room, which was nice, but look forward to trying the patio as well! Tonight we did the Korn Ribs, Joplin's Burger, The Salmon, Cardamom Glazed Carrots, Collards, and Baked Mac n Cheese. The flavors are unexpected and off the charts. It's not just a good burger. It's a burger that you bite into and start asking yourself, "What is that wonderful flavor going on there..." (think I would've appreciated the bun toasted, but that's me); the Carrots were a flavor-bomb revelation; the Salmon was House-cured and then broiled to perfection, the corn was spicy salty savory and delicious. The standout hit was the baked mac & cheese, sprinkled with perfect crispy breadcrumbs, it was the creamiest, tastiest, most comforting homemade Mac I've had in forever. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive, the whole staff seemed really nice and were having a great time. Music overhead was classic hard rock which was a really fun vibe (Bowie, AC/DC, Janis, Korn, Ace Frehley, Zep). Bathrooms are decorated to the teeth with classic band bills, flyers and posters. Welcome to Ojai, Joplin's!

The Brisket burger that ruined all burgers for me.

Every single thing they serve is quality. The chef and founder's got a cool story -- you can look up a short doc on YouTube. It's Bermese food mixed with American. The Biryani, Crispy Rice Salad, Potatoes, Breakfast Plate, Granola, Congee, and Spicy Chicken & Waffle are all great. Ask if you can have a side of their chili oil -- I believe it's made in-house and they even sell it to take home. I would've gotten a bottle but they were sold out! Their cafe is also awesome. We got their chocolate chip cookie, croissant, danish (forgot which one), and sourdough and they were all good. Drip coffee is good + their caffeinated black tea (also forgot the name)! Lastly, the customer service was top notch. Your server will check up on you every 10ish mins or so. Always very accommodating and very friendly, too. Best believe we'll be back sooner rather than later! Thanks The Dutchess Crew!

Orders are placed at the register and pastries are given to you right away, and you'll receive a table tent so they can bring your coffee out. The pastries were really good, with a nice variety to choose from. The only thing that would have made them even better is if the savory pastries were heated. The coffee, however, took quite a while to arrive. We had already finished our pastries and our table was cleared before it finally came out. I went back to grab a few more pastries, and while I was away, a gnat flew into my coffee. I brought it back to the register, and they graciously replaced it without any issue. The second cup came out quickly and was noticeably hotter than the first. It seems like Saturdays can get pretty busy, so it might be a better experience to visit during the week if you can. They are wrapped in a fried and crispy shell and were so much lighter. The tea leaf salad was a must get as well. So many different textures between the pumpkin seeds, peanuts, and greens. There seems to only be one server so things can take some time but otherwise, the service is good! It's located in a small strip mall with relatively easy parking but some spots can be a bit tight. All the starters were delicious choices and, although the paratha was a little oily, it went super well with the peas and curry. The prawn curry was a flavor explosion with the prawns being perfectly cooked and the gravy rice was packed with veggies and a good amount of gravy. Some people in our party are vegetarian and everything besides the prawn curry were good choices for them. For desserts and drinks, we ordered RC Trio Delight, Smashed Strawberry Drink, and Rangoon Milk Tea. The RC Trio was a little on the sweet side but refreshing and the smashed strawberry was a delicious yogurt drink filled with strawberry. The Rangoon milk tea is delicious and a not too sweet option. 10/10 would recommend. Already thinking about the next time we come back.

One reviewer described the place as "barren," and honestly, it is quiet and low-key. But that's part of the charm for me. Not every restaurant needs to be another overly curated, gentrified "hip" spot with hip signs and then charge an arm and a leg for the food. Something is refreshing about the tranquility here, a calm place where you can actually enjoy your meal and conversation. The place is also very clean. The owner is also incredibly friendly, and I enjoy chatting with him. This place has soul. My rating is solely on the food, consistent with all reviews. More importantly, the food delivers solid value, especially given that everything is halal, and the menu blends Malaysian, Burmese, Thai, and other Southeast Asian influences. Kueh Teow Goreng - 3/5. This dish is essentially the Malaysian/Indonesian cousin of Pad See Ew. The noodles were well-balanced in flavor - savory without becoming overly salty - and the beef was tender and paired nicely with the dish. The rice noodles are fresh. While it didn't quite reach the smoky "wok hei" heights that make the best versions unforgettable, it was still satisfying and thoughtfully prepared. Goat Curry - 3/5. I also tried the goat curry, which I enjoyed quite a bit. They use the right cuts of goat meat: tender, bone-in pieces that add depth and richness to the curry. The spice balance was good and comforting without overpowering the dish. I do wish the curry had a bit more tang and heartiness to push it to the next level, but overall, it was flavorful and enjoyable. The naan served alongside it was fresh, though I personally would've liked it a little fluffier. Overall, Mutiara Food & Market serves good, honest food at affordable prices. It may not be flashy, but it offers something increasingly rare: comforting halal Southeast Asian food in a peaceful, unpretentious setting.

We've thought about going a few times, but something always came up, or it was Sunday when they're closed. We had a school event at our son's school, and we really didn't want more PTA pizza. Our son wanted McDonald's, but we asked him to try something new, and I'm so glad we did. He loved it so much and already wants to come back! I noticed there was a coupon available on Restaurant.com for Yoma Myanmar, but the owner informed me they are no longer accepting them and have already contacted the site to be removed. I was initially bummed because the coupon was a great deal and I'd already purchased it, but its always a good idea to double check before ordering. I'm certainly glad I did! I asked for recommendations, and the owner was wonderful - she explained the menu, which regions of Myanmar the dishes originated from, and what she thought we would enjoy. We decided to start off with some Fried Samusas ($14.99) and the Tea Leaf Salad ($16.99). For our entrees, we shared two mains: the Beef Curry ($19.99) and the Shan Noodle Soup ($15.99). The owner was so sweet; I think she felt bad about the coupon situation because she gave us some complimentary rice and a Coconut Jelly for dessert. The Fried Samusas were quite good and a perfect appetizer to share. I've always known Samusas to be of Indian origin, but the Burmese style is smaller and crispier, featuring a milder blend of spiced potatoes, onions and lentils. For those who enjoy a bit of heat, the dipping sauce served on the side is quite spicy and serves as a great complement to the samusas. The Tea Leaf Salad is a crunchy, savory Burmese dish made with fermented tea leaves, assorted nuts, toasted sesame seeds fried yellow split peas, fried garlic and chopped tomatoes. I loved the texture of this dish; it was highly addictive, and I couldn't stop eating it! The flavor profile is a wonderful mixture of savory, sour, and earthy notes. This is definitely a dish I recommend giving a try. The Beef Curry was smothered in a rich sauce was absolutely delicious - it was my wife's favorite dish. She even mentioned that she'd definitely come back for this dish alone. The meat was incredible tender and flavorful. Shan Noodles is a popular Burmese dish originating from the Shan State, made with rice noodles. The garnish includes toasted peanuts, sesame seeds, fried garlic, chopped cilantro, and green onions. We chose pork as our protein, and it was a solid dish that both my son and I really enjoyed. Because the noodles are served dry with the soup on the side, you can add the broth to tailor the dish exactly to your liking. This is a hidden gem in Monterey Park that is well worth visiting. We'll definitely be back to order these favorites again and explore more of the menu.
