Right off the main road, easy to find, and the family vibes are real. It's the kind of spot you want to linger in. If you're navigating dietary restrictions, this place is a quiet goldmine. Strong gluten free options, a genuinely vegan friendly menu, and plenty of vegetarian choices too... so everyone at the table actually gets to eat something they're excited about. That's rarer than it should be. The food? Solid. I went with the raw tacos, sopes, and huarache; all filling, all fairly priced for the area. The raw tacos especially surprised me... fresh, flavorful, and not in a "I wish this was a real taco" kind of way. These hold their own. Service was quick and most of the staff had a warm, genuine energy about them. The one small snag; the cashier seemed to be having a rough one. A little gruff, made me feel like my first visit was mildly inconvenient for them. It happens, we all have bad days, but first impressions do stick a little. Overall though, I'm absolutely coming back. There's more on that menu calling my name and an atmosphere that makes it easy to slow down for a bit. A really difficult review to write. On the one hand, decent food, and decent environment On the other hand, very dramatic and poorly managed "community" space. I was poisoned there with food that I am allergic to by a spiteful employee. Management not only never apologized, they never did anything. The results were lab tested. I would say, it's lovely healthy food in the style of Mexican dishes, but didn't really have a Mexican flavor profile. Definitely elevated and delicious, but don't expect the same spices and preparations. I had the goat cheese and veggies tacos, taquitos, and fresh chips and salsa. The chips and salsa were incredible and super fresh. I loved the homemade hot sauce as well. The star of the show for me was the seasonal persimmon smoothie. Amazing food that exceeded my expectations! It was hard to decide what to order, but we ended up sharing the sopes and the goat cheese & veggie tacos, and everything was incredibly fresh and flavorful. Their corn tortillas are to die for. They also have plenty of gluten-free options, which was perfect for my mom who has celiac. We even got a delicious gluten-free peanut butter cookie to finish. Haven't had sopes since being in Mexico and these were surprisingly delicious! Bigger and more filling than I thought they'd be. The flour they make it with is thick and so good, I just wish they had knives sharper than butter knives to cut them. I kept struggling to cut a bite and then cutting through and eating the paper... lol. Salad looked great but unfortunately was super oily and I didn't end up eating it. We had such a great experience our first time here, we decided to stop by again. We only had a few people in front of us, but it took a long time to order. I waited for the cashier to call me and she looked at me oddly for waiting. We ordered a smoothie and a tonic. We grabbed a seat, the first table was filthy and had hair on it, so we moved. There was no air conditioning and it was almost hotter inside than outside! After waiting almost 30 minutes I walked up to see where our order was. The same cashier was by herself and again gave me an odd look. She asked if I'd ordered food or drinks and before finishing her question read back my order. She went in the back and walked them out to me stating they've been really busy. The drinks tasted good! However, no fun decoration for the smoothie like prior. Cauliflower Tostada (4/5) - would have been perfect except whatever they make the tostada out of, I think they didn't mix the salt enough because I would get random bites that were pure salt! Otherwise, really nicely flavored and savory. Dirty Chai (3/5) - wow this was so bitter. Some spice they put in (maybe star anise? or allspice?) was just a tad bit too overwhelming. so my wife and I decide to eat at the farmer and the cook since my wife is vegan and I'm open-minded. Now I get the fact that I love so Mexican food unfortunately I have an allergy to cilantro, which makes my ordering kind of truncated. With that said who served me not quite sure what exactly I ate, but I was still hungry afterwards. also the meal came out somewhere between cold and look warm. My wife's food was along the same lines. no, I'm not sure if this is the norm for this place or if we just had stuff that was served at the wrong temperature. Between all this and the cup of mocha coffee, we ordered which honestly just tasted like a cup of water down hot chocolate with very little coffee resemblance in the cup. Needless to say we were underwhelmed and truth we're not gonna go back. The market seem well put together and I'm guessing if you live up in those neck of the woods and that's the kind of food you like shopping for this would be an ideal place . Maybe we ordered the wrong thing. But serving food at that temperature without warning, and also the interesting fact that you order at the counter and they bring the food. We got the chips with guacamole and salsa, peach iced tea, huarache, and the tamale. Everything was great portion size and the food tasted so fresh and filling. We also got the peanut butter and oatmeal cookies, both were good but a very coconut taste (which I'm not a fan of but if you are then these are your cookies!!). Been wanting to try this place for a while now and finally got the chance to. It's a cute place with a market in the front and then the remainder of the building seating for the restaurant. They have a great outdoor are that you can sit at surrounded by beautiful plants and it even wraps around from what I believe. The service was mediocre. The gals taking our order were very dry and didn't seem to be very helpful which was a bummer, but we only talked to them to order. The food itself was simply delicious. To have so many healthy, vegetarian, and vegan options and pull it off is something that I can respect. I ordered the cauliflower tostada, which I was a little nervous as I am not a super big fan of cauliflower, but it was soooo good! I have stopped in here 2x while in town for work. I had heard great things about the restaurant and market and wanted to give it a fair shot. Both times the cashiers were very short with me and were annoyed that I had questions. On the second visit I ordered a green tea late and they gave me a matcha late. When I asked for them to remake I was told they couldn't make the green tea late so that's why I got matcha instead. The small market is overpriced but I expected that since it's organic and small. Was in Ojai the other morning and stopped by Farmer and The Cook for breakfast. I ordered the huevos rancheros and it was delicious. Everything was cooked perfectly and all the ingredients, especially the avocado, tasted fresh. Unfortunately, when I was drinking my coffee I got a big gulp of coffee grounds. The bottom of my cup was layered with coffee grounds. It was disgusting. Offers quick bites that satisfy like proper meals and interesting pastries like a raisin non- cinnamon bun, ojai inspired scone flavor like lavender honey or some such thing. A couple of miles from downtown, you'll find this charming gem. A true farm to table concept, even their flowers are from their nearby farm. The menu is limited but varied enough to satisfy even picky eaters. Service was merely fine despite a lot of people seemingly working here, but bring your patience. Nobody is in any kind of hurry here. We got the acai bowl and a smoothie and headed outside to wait for our food. Again, be patient. It was 12-15 minutes before our order was out, which is on the longer side for these two menu items, but this did not surprise us. Both of the menu items we ordered were good, but neither was anything special. Imho, they were overpriced for what you got. I did expect larger portions based on the price. I've been meaning to review this place, but finally getting around to it. I love this little place for their vegan/vegetarian food. Their menu is different than most places near by. I've tried their açaí, Mexican foods, and raw tacos, and pastries. They sell fresh juice and smoothies also. Pretty tasty. The only downside is the parking. It's always hard for me to find a spot to park. They also have a really nice thought out market with packaged foods and fresh veggies. read more

Second time here, and I'd have to say that the men in my party were not impressed but my daughter and I enjoyed our vegan entrées even though the items are definitely pricey. My son-in-law thought the veggie burger tasted like cardboard and he would've preferred a McDonald's hamburger. The cauliflower burrito was very tasty with a spinach wrap tortilla and I liked the seasoning in it but 1150 seems pretty steep for a vegetable burrito. The gal at the cash register was extremely slow and didn't know any thing about the menu items when I asked her questions. It seems she hasn't tried any of the items. It took her forever to charge us for our food. Maybe she's just learning. Just don't be in a hurry . They said that they were out of the fresh loaves of bread that they bake every day, but I happen to go back to the kitchen, or they bake the bread to ask them if they had any bread left, and I happen to run into Steve and he proceeded to take me right into the kitchen and find me a loaf of bread and he sliced it for me in the bread slicer and told me to go ahead and pay for it upfront. That is what I called. Good customer service! I really like the picnic atmosphere here and the options for eating inside or outside or among the fruit trees along side the restaurant with the picnic tables. Eating here is like eating at a co-op where you do all your own busing and waiting on yourself except that they do bring your food out to you , it's kind of like going back to my college days and reliving the 1960s. I love the versatility of this place. It's mostly a vegetarian restaurant, but is also a very successfully designed mini market, with awesome bakery items/desserts, beautiful juices/smoothies, neat swag and a raw vibe. Pulling up in our car I could immediately read the festive vibe this place had going on. There were regulars scattered amount the outdoor picnic and patio tables which signifies the steadfast quality and joy this place provides to the surrounding community. The mini market had fresh fruits and veggies and all the YES PLEASE items at the grocery store consolidated in a few racks. I want to take everything in this store home with me. The swag was so NATURAL with a clean, laid back feel. Lots of fun goodies. They had some local drinks in the fridges as well as ice creams, açaí, and other good treats in the freezers. It's hard to not want to get it all! Their seating options are diverse from inside the "cafe" (if I may), to the outside patio under the shaded overhangs, to the table on the lifted deck, to picnic tables on grass to the side of the building. It really brings together the eclectic vibe: a place for everyone. The tables and chairs were moderately clean, what you'd expect from an "of the earth" kind of place. Bathroom was similar. There is a fun chalk wall outside while you wait for the one person bathroom. Now onto the food: After much debate, I got the goat cheese tacos. It may seem like they have a small menu but when everything on it looks so good it makes it impossible to pick! And when we asked about the special menu item the employee couldn't tell us what it was because she hadn't seen it yet and wasn't explained to her. So some more knowledge/communication between the kitchen and servers/cashiers would have been helpful in that scenario. None the less, my husband got the veggies burger; my dad got the enchilada; and my mom got the cauliflower burrito. The tortilla chips came out right away and we're tasty. Less than 10 minutes later the food came out one by one. The goat cheese veggie tacos were fresh and light. Very good. And the beans, rice and pickled cabbage that came with was good as well (a little under warm, would have liked all the food a bit warmer). They have the right amount of all the ingredients in there in good harmony. To start, my husband was pleasantly surprised by the side salad that came with his veggie burger. However, the burger itself l was not his style so I ended up sharing my 2nd taco with him and taking his veggie burger home for dinner. I liked all the components of the burger separated and deconstructed it to eat it. Was not a huge fan of it all together because the bread and patty together are too dry and hard to swallow. But individually, the party is very tasty, and the bread is fresh, filling and flavorful. I really enjoyed the yellowish sauce on it and the red onions really shined a wonderfully sweet note. My dads enchilada was filling and a tasty mix with a small kick of spice. My moms burrito was really tasty looking and she finished the whole thing so it must have been good. I liked the tortilla color (greenish). Made it feel like an earthy burrito which matched the vibe. To finish it all of I got a date walnut chocolate chip cookie that melted in my mouth, very delicious! From the look of it, any and all the desserts are a good choice. I'd come back for those for sure, and to enjoy the vibe of this place again. Just make sure you bring company that appreciates farm to table vegetarian style cooking; our guys felt a little out of place. But they do have pizza for those that need a more classic teeth sink.
