We stopped into Sam's place prior to dinner to have a drink and a snack. Sam was behind the bar and was not only incredibly friendly - giving us great tips on local spots - but also made some of the best craft cocktails I've had in a very long time. It's clear that this bar prides itself on making great drinks and delivers on it. My wife and I tried 3 different drinks each and every single one was absolutely delicious. If you love good cocktails, you have to come to this bar.

Honestly! Sam is the best bartender in town. Definitely worth visiting. You won't find a better drink in town.

They have two great options. They have a four choice wine tasting, which allows you to choose any 4 from the current list of 8. Or, you can indulge in the full monty which is where you get tastings of all wine currently on the menu. They are both very good values when comparing wine tasting rooms. The air conditioning was on, and we were happy. The music, the wine, the vibes and there was a wonderful employee working that day (I'm sorry, it's only been 24 hours and I cannot remember his name) Anyway, the whole experience was great. I would definitely return again.

Great local artwork all around the tasting room and a fun painted upright piano. Our tasting host was very friendly and provided short tid bits of information of each wine. My husband did the $19 four wine pour tasting and I did the $36 Full Monte pouring of their entire eight wine tasting. I enjoyed my first Grüner Veltliner white wine, 2024 Grunay (a hint of sweetness yet still crisp to the tongue and a light body). I also enjoyed their Tempranillo red wine, 2023 Taransay (well balanced medium body, slightly on the drier side but not too much, and had some nice tannins), this is the full glass I ordered after the tasting. I was not a fan of the 2021 Soay (Red Blend of 70% Granache, 15% Petit Verdot and 15% Petit Syrah) - I really wanted to like it as I typically like this blend, however there was a strange aftertaste that reminded me of water that was rinsed in dried rice. From 4PM - 6PM on Saturdays and Sundays, there is a local musician. Today was a singer-songwriter who played both acoustic and electric guitar and was accompanied by a lovely bass guitar player. They performed a few lighter versions of rock music and a handful of originals. Overall, great value and good music.

So much so, that we signed up for a membership! Pricing is more than reasonable, in my opinion. Especially for natural and organic wine... That is so hard to find here in the states! Aaron (who I believe is the manager?) led us thru a great tasting and shared a few nice stories about the wine and the winemaker and the history of The Naturalist. Lastly- you're always going to win my heart over when you invite our dogs in!

He's an Ojai local with a kind calming demeanor. He spun some vinyl, gave us some tips about Ojai, and poured our wine. I loved how he gave us alone time to sit with each other and really taste the wine instead of talking over every sip and trying to sell us what to think. I like white wine, but I cannot drink it because it always makes me slightly nauseous, but Josh assured me that this white wine would not do that. I could tell the minute I smelled it that I was going to be fine. Instead of that stainless steel I smell in white wines, I could smell fruits and florals. I've had organic wines in the past, but this winery goes way beyond that. The Naturalist is a pure winery, and that is quite rare in California. I had a hard time choosing my favorites, so I joined the club and I figured they could pick which four they'd like to send me every season. Josh said It is a very flexible club, so we were quick to join. Joining is free, deferring shipments is an option, and changing the wine choice to also, however you wish. Can't wait for our first shipment!

We actually ended up squeezing in the far right table close to the bathroom. Once you get seated, you stand in line to order. Between 10 of us, we ordered two Pick Up Picnics for 4 and added half a chicken, and Our Slaw. The baguette came out first which was delicious, but the butter itself tasted a little old? It had a cheese-y aftertaste which usually means it's been sitting on the fridge for a while. Hummus was next, which was delicious and whet our appetites for the main course. The highlight: the chicken. All of us agreed it was so JUICY...especially the CHICKEN BREAST ITSELF!!! We all wish that our normal chicken breast was that juicy. Loved the garlic dip that also accompanied the dish. The Our Slaw was also great and wasn't a traditional coleslaw but had more of a salad taste -- which I appreciated since I'm not a fan of coleslaw. Our other sides that we chose included in the picnic included Orzo Salta and the Caramelized Cauliflower which were also solid sides. Although the sides were all supposed to be large, I felt like the side we ordered on the side was actually larger than those included in the picnic combo. Food came out within 10-15 min of ordering, which is impressive given that we came on a holiday weekend. They did forget the baklava for the one of our picnic meals, but they were able to bring it out quickly once we reminded them we were missing the dessert.
