I was so excited to try their famous matcha affogato and I was not disappointed. It is quite small inside and they also have limited seating so keep that in mind when stopping by. It was very busy when I stopped by too but I only tried their matcha affogato. It was perfectly sweet and the matcha paired beautifully. Definitely give it a try!
Charming little café with a very cute side patio. Counter service vibes. Grab a number and they'll bring the food right to your table (we love efficiency). Fresh-baked pastries staring at you from the case (dangerous), plus a thoughtful pantry and wine section for when you "just came for coffee" and leave with extras. Ordered the savory toast, a baguette topped with soft egg, anchovy, aioli, pickled mustard, and chives. And yes, it works. If you're a savory lover, I recommend. Paired with my usual iced vanilla latte, perfection. Cozy, unfussy, and exactly the kind of spot you want to gatekeep but won't.
I found Rory's Other Place on TikTok because everyone was raving about their matcha affogato, so during our Black Friday stroll through Ojai, we decided to stop in. So glad we did! We got lucky and were only third in line, because the line grew super fast after us. The matcha affogato absolutely lived up to the hype--rich, earthy matcha poured over soft serve ice cream... loved everything about it. It's definitely a must-try if you're in Ojai. The shop itself is tiny, though, and the flow inside could be better. The cashier didn't say anything about where the line should form, so when more people walked in, they just stood around confused. Seating is also very limited both inside and outside, so be prepared to grab your order and go. Overall, amazing treat, great find, and worth the stop--just expect a bit of a wait and tight space.
Came here w/ my mom during a day trip to Ojai! Just stopped by for the matcha affogato and also grabbed a hot apple cider. We came on a Saturday afternoon and man this place was busy! You can't make reservations here so you got to be lucky to be able to grab seating. There's very limited indoor seating and limited outdoor seating. Service to order was quick and we got our order in about 5 minutes. There was no outdoor seting unfortunately for us so we crammed inside the corner seating by their wine section. Matcha affogato 4/5, genuinely good! The matcha blends well with the vanilla ice cream though the ice cream does have random ice chunks in it??? this is quite large and can be shared by 2-3! Pricy for what it is though extremely aesthetic looking irl and I can imagine this is why this place is so trendy Hot apple cider 3.5/5, this was just okay. I would have liked it more if they had added more spices to this as it predominantly tasted of hot apple juice ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
came here for the matcha affogato! i was happy with the matcha, which was high quality and had a strong flavor. however, the soft serve was a little icier than i liked, which made it a little less enjoyable to eat. line can get long on the weekend, there's a cute outdoor seating area, but there aren't a lot of spots so i would recommend getting there early!
I really wanted to like Rory's Other Place, but this was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. The ordering area is a narrow little corridor that can barely fit two people side by side, so if there's even a small line, you're basically standing shoulder to shoulder with strangers while trying to decide what to eat. I ordered the Korean bowl with pork belly, and it was... rough. Everything on the plate besides the pork and rice was pickled...kimchi cucumber, kimchi, pickled bean sprouts, pickled cabbage. It was all piled together so that every bite just tasted like -- well kimchi. The pork itself was bland and completely drowned out by all the acidity. There was also a soft boiled egg plopped in the middle that was so undercooked I genuinely don't know how they were able to peel it without it collapsing. To make matters worse, they give you soy sauce to pour over the entire dish, which somehow made it even saltier The cracked bowls didn't help either. It's hard to enjoy your meal when the dishes look like they've been through a few too many dishwasher cycles. It just didn't feel clean. The area to sit is hardly shaded, and on warmer days can be uncomfortable. The silverware and water station are sitting in the same unshaded patio. The water was warm, no ice available, and served in metal cups that also harnessed the beautiful warm California day... I usually try to find a silver lining, but this one was a total miss. Between the uncomfortable setup and the truly unpleasant flavors, I left unbelievably disappointed.

TLDR: 4/5 - Decent portions with reasonable prices, a nice patio with plenty of seating and something for everyone to enjoy. Came here for the matcha affogato and left without it but still had some pretty good hits! Ordered: - Ham and Cheese quiche: 5/5 - Definitely the best quiche I've had. It was full of flavor, incredibly moist and pretty fluffy actually that was big enough to split for 2 people if you're sharing something else or for one if you want a filling meal. - Tinned Fish board: 3/5 - This is coming from two people who are in their tin fish era, I simply think there could be more sauces or condiments on the board to help with the loud textures on the board. You have relatively dry fish and then with it are crackers (could have more) and pickled veggies. Some type of sauce could help break up the textures and add variety to the pairings too. Also didn't love that we quite literally got the tin opened because there's just a lot of risk spilling oil trying to pour it out so I think an option of whether you want it drained or not would be helpful! Otherwise they have so many tinned fish options to try for the board so that was really nice. - Dirty Matcha: 4/5 - Good! Not very sweet either which I needed. - Sandwiches: 4/5 - The best thing about it was the bread but otherwise fairly substantial despite the size. Service: 3.8/5 It was just fine? It is a cafe but also feels like a small breakfast joint so it feels less self service and more of a dine in experience so I feel like it could've done with a check in or two. Like some things were self managed like cutlery, water, but then they buss tables so wasnt really sure what lane they wanted to be in. Mostly we just didn't have a heads up on our sandwiches for quite some time. We did see they were mass prepping in the back which is fine but we did have to go in to ask about the status. Other: - Street Parking - Very limited seating inside but a nice lowkey patio space in the back - We have heard things sell out here depending on what it is so get to it while you can! - Such cute merch but $45 for a t-shirt depressed because I did like it Otherwise I'd come back ultimately, I think its a happy medium for not breaking the brunch bank if you want to save it for dinner while still having enough options to be filled.
Got the breakfast burrito (without chorizo) and it was mostly just cheese. Was too heavy I couldn't get more than halfway through. Would skip totally skip. I had totally dismissed even the thought of getting the Korean rice bowl in this definitely not remotely Korean place but I tried some of my friend's and had such order envy!!! Don't know what was Korean about it- the pickled cabbage might have been an attempt at kimchi (?) but tasted like a milder sauerkraut. The egg was perfectly poached though and the mushrooms were delicious. My coffee came in an interesting ceramic cup with no handle. Why the sacrifice of function over form at trendy places? I'll never understand. At least it tasted pretty good. This was like 9AM so unfortunately, no one in my group felt up for the famed matcha affogato so early so we didn't get to try.
I came here specifically for the matcha affogato since it was so hyped up online, but I left disappointed. There was no matcha flavor and it tasted like regular soft serve, so for the price point, definitely not worth it. Also, the service was not good. After we got our order, I went up to counter to ask for spoons and the 3 workers saw me and didn't acknowledge me until wayyy later. By then, my ice cream was all melted. Also, they have an area outside where you grab your own spoons but it was out in the open, so leaves kept falling in the spoons and most of the spoons were still dirty,
visited ojai for a quick weekend trip & had to try out Rory's Other Place! We got their tuna sandwhich, ham sandwhich, & matcha affogato! Everything was absolutely delicious! It's definitely a smaller spot with a few tables so you may need to wait for a table to open up if you plan on eating there, but luckily we found a table pretty quickly. The staff is very good at cleaning down the tables quickly after a guest leaves.
Cute little brunch-type spot in Ojai located on a street with a bunch of fun little shops & eateries. You place your order at the counter inside and can pick a table on the small patio area outside. I came here around 11 AM on a Monday morning with my partner, and there seemed to be a steady flow of customers. Some were grabbing a meal while others stopped by for a quick drink & pastry. We ordered the breakfast burrito (unfortunately, they didn't have any chorizo available) and the Korean rice bowl. The Korean rice bowl was definitely my favorite of the two, as it had more variety in terms of taste and texture. The food here If I were to return in the future, I'd be curious to try the butter and ham sandwich, as that seemed to be a favorite of some of the regulars. I'd also want to grab a pastry as the scones and cookies in the case were quite enticing. Overall, flavors aren't anything out of this world, but it's a nice spot to grab a meal and people-watch if you're in the area. read more

Super charming!!! Came here for the viral Matcha affogato and was very pleased! There was plenty of parking spaces on the Main Street where this is located and it's surrounded by alot of cute shops to explore. There were a few bar styled seats indoors but most of the seating was outside, great for when the weather is nice out. Will need to come back to taste more of their things. Our dessert came out fast and everyone was super friendly. MATCHA AFFOGATO $12 - (9/10) So beautiful AND delicious! Was pleasantly surprised that the matcha taste really came through. I was expecting this treat to just be a pretty trendy item but it is actually VERY GOOD! It wasn't super sweet and the matcha had a perfect tea taste. The matcha on top of the ice cream also had a satisfying crack. If you're in ojai you must stop by to get the matcha affogato. Literally looks heaven sent. Delectable. I also got the chorizo breakfast burrito and a hojicha latte and my friend got a tuna sandwich and a blood orange turn up cookie. The breakfast burrito was big but nothing to write home about. The hojicha was watery and also nothing to write home about. This place is more known for their baked goods so def give those a try. The patio was cute though. I liked eating out there. I think overall my experience was good. The matcha was what I was there for. Would I drive 2 hrs just for it. But if I'm back in ojai I would stop by for it. read more

A charming little shop offering baked treats and a wide selection of drinks. I stopped by for the matcha affogato, and it was the perfect dessert for our trip. They also have outdoor seating and a cozy back patio. Conveniently located on Ojai's Main Street, it's an easy walk to nearby shops. The service was great. We got our order fairly quick. read more

the matcha affogato was insane!!! I waited all weekend for it and it was worth every bit. the wait can get a big long on the weekends so I would recommend coming earlier. There are many great options for food but they do make their burritos and eggs earlier in the day so it is already premade. My friend asked for an over easy egg which they couldn't get her since they were made earlier but they should've clarified they didn't serve it. The place is super casual and limited seating hence the coming earlier. read more
3.75 I got the soft serve swirl affogato. I loved trying this for the first time but felt like it was a little too pricey. I wish the price was a little lower when using soft serve instead of gelato. I also wasn't a fan of the bowl since a lot of the espresso fell out of the bowl and I felt bad seeing it get wasted. Other than that the space was really cute with indoor and outdoor seating. read more
I tried the famous matcha affogato and it did not disappoint. The softserve is extremely rich and creamy, and the matcha adds a nice nutty flavor. It's also the most aesthetic ice cream, and the restaurant is so quaint and cute. The soft-serve came out really quickly, and I will definitely be back to try their lattes and other food. read more
Very cute outdoor seating area. They had a great shop filled with lots of fun niche food things! They had a bunch of sardines options as well as syrups and stuff. Lots of delicious looking pastries. We tried the citrus olive oil cake and it was so moist and delicious! The matcha affogato was everything and more. I took my wife on a day trip to Ojai for Valentine's Day and our first stop was at Rory's Other Place for brunch. This small market/cafe is located along Ojai Ave next door to their restaurant Rory's Place (opens at 5pm for dinner). As for parking, it's either going to be street parking or in the nearby public lot. At Rory's Other Place, you have your choices of sandwiches, pastries, and salads. For drinks, they serve coffee, matcha, and beer & wine. My wife went with Savory Toast with an iced matcha while I had the Tuna Conserva Sandwich with the bubbly hibiscus limeade. The food is made in-house with local produce and tasted so fresh. There's a few high top seats inside or you can sit in one of their two outside patios. Given this was our first time in Ojai, Rory's Other Place was the perfect place to start our day trip. The customer service was so outgoing, we felt like this was the go-to town cafe. Should we come back to Ojai, I definitely will be making a reservation for dinner at Rory's Place. read more

What are cute hamster spot I was out in this area for work and got to stop in and grab some breakfast The burrito was really good. I was surprised and the latte was super delicious. The outdoor seating is very comfortable inside. Could get a little snug because it's busy but overall great customer service service very sweet plants. They sell other cool. When you're in Ojai, you have to stop by Rory's Other Place! I ordered the Korean Rice Bowl with Pork Belly, Savory Toast, Lemon Poppy Seed Cookie, and the Matcha Affogoto. All the main dishes were super delicious, and I absolutely loved the cookie since it was light and thin. It didn't make me feel heavy after. I'd say the matcha affogoto was a bit disappointing because it didn't have much matcha flavor. The matcha was mainly on the bottom. It was pretty for the aesthetic though. The overall ambiance is very relaxing and I loved seeing all the dogs that came! Highly recommend stopping here if you're looking for a brunch spot, but be aware of limited seating. read more

Found this place on Yelp as we had some time to spare before attending an event. What a lovely cafe! Liked everything here. Located next to Rory's Place. We mistaken Rory's Place for this place. I'm glad we looked harder and didn't walk away cuz Rory's Place opens in the evening. It's more like a restaurant & bar kind of place. While Rory's Other Place is open during the day and operates as a cafe. Compact/limited spaces inside with outdoor/patio seating. Inside is like a mini marketplace with display of pastries and some savory items. Love the sandwiches and can't wait to try the Savory Toast and Quiche with Salad. They offer so much good stuff. SERVICE: No issues. Everything was fine/went well. One of the cashiers also answered my question about the sandwiches and had high remarks for the Tuna Sandwich, which I did get and liked. FOOD: Tuna Sandwich 5/5 Ham & Butter Sandwich 4.75/5 DRINKS: Cortado 4.5/5 Not sure what kind (which region) of coffee beans they use. It's a little more acidic than I liked, but overall it's a good cup of Cortado. Solid choice. Iced Vanilla Latte 4/5 Bf liked it. Thought the slight sweetness was just right with subtle vanilla flavor. I thought it was fine. Typical iced vanilla latte. Sparkling Hibiscus Limeade 4/5 Another okay/safe choice for refreshment. I was in town for a friends wedding and thankfully all of my other friends just new where to go in Ojai because this was my first trip here. Rory's Other Place is a branch off of the restaurant, Rory's Place (also v good). It's a cafe that sells tinned fish, unique pantry goodies, and baked goods from artisan bread to pastries that tempting you through the glass display which parallels the counter-service queue. While there is a small patio out front, seating can be slim pickings but from what I experienced diners are considerate to eat and leave so tables turn fast enough. The establishment itself is cozy and intimate, navigating the store's retail and local offerings requires a modicum of friendly banter to get around but the vibe seems to attract friendly folk. Like most places that takes quality to heart and not minced with optical, literary cliches -items will sell out. This is true for the Breakfast Burrito I had. Rory's is simple: Egg, crispy potato, and green chili cheese. For a buck more, you can add chorizo. I did. Well worth it. As a Southern California resident, I feel credible to speak on the importance in proportion and just overall quality when it comes to burritos. There's certainly a time and a place when greasy and filling are part of the expectations but the quality in each ingredient here at Rory's makes it stand out. It's not a massive burrito... no, this is not the place for the biggest but this will certainly stand up to flavor and textures -qualities that make this well worth its money. Little nuggets of crispy potato maintain its bite against the fluffy and perfectly cooked scrambled eggs, tucking the chorizo into the crevices making way for the green chili cheese -tightly wrapped in a lightly toasted blue corn tortilla. The separate but equal elements is far superior than the haphazard hash of convincing yourself that the bite was egg, cheese, potato, chorizo or all. For me, this hits. They also have a salsa that is neon red-orange. The tang and spice is truly everything nice. It's incredibly complementary and not just some thoughtless scoville bomb that emaciates the palate. Don't let that color fool you, it's damn delicious. Simple and delicious food done right. read more

My vanilla latte was so good! My friend and I didn't enjoy the scone as much but the banana bread was good and moist. Very cute place with good service. Would definitely go back for the coffee it was the best we had while in Ojai. read more

Stop here on a recent visit in town after a few friends referred me here. We ordered the veg sandwhich, tuna sandwhich, a matcha, cappuccino, and a cookie. All staff was extremely friendly and kind. Place is small inside with nice patio seating. Very "vibe" worthy and simple. 9/10. The veg sandwhich is made with a very unique seeded bread which my wife loved. You can see the whole seeds and food in it, which really give a homemade taste and feel. Super unique, good tasting, and health conscious. The tuna sandwhich was just ok, not amazing but not bad. I think it's mostly because I don't like capers, but the texture was really hearty and a touch dry...again not bad but not amazing. The cookie was good, not the best but very good. We're spoiled by some great cookies in the LA area and this can stand up to most of them. Food 8/10 Then we get to the drinks. Matcha (didn't get a pic of) - Right when it was delivered my wife said how deep the green was and instantly new it was high grade matcha without even tasting it first. One of the staff (super friendly) came out and let us know it was a high end Japanese ceremonial grade matcha which confirmed our suspicions. The Cappuccino was REALLY good. That stood out and I would definitely come back up here just for the coffee. Smooth, robust, and deeper than most which I like. We stopped by on a weekend afternoon and the place was quite packed. You order at the kiosk and seat yourself, and then they take your order out to you. Indoor seating is pretty limited, but there is a cozy outdoor patio with more seating available. We ordered the Matcha Affogato, which was delicious. The vanilla affogato was creamy and rich, and had an almost stretchy texture to it. However, the matcha flavor was definitely lacking, and for the price we paid, I was kind of expecting a larger portion. Overall, its a small, cute, and pretty sweet treat perfect for a hot day, but is a bit overpriced. If you are expecting a strong matcha flavor, you won't get it. If you want ice cream, I think Ojai Ice Cream across the street is more worth it. read more
