The ambiance is absolutely perfect for a sunny outdoor lunch, and ordering inside is fast and easy. I got the quarter chicken plate with garlicky potatoes and cauliflower as my sides. Honestly, these might be the best potatoes I've ever had in my life. They were cooked to absolute perfection--super soft on the inside, a little crispy on the outside, and topped with an incredibly flavorful garlic sauce. Everything was of great quality and had great flavors. The muhammara and pita were the stars of the night, just really phenomenal food. Overall, we really liked this place and will come back again. Ojai Rotie came highly recommended by a few friends, so my partner and I were excited to give it a try. We arrived around 8 PM on a Sunday evening and there were a few parties still eating. We decided to order a half chicken as that was recommended as a good amount for 2. Since it was nearly the end of the night they only had a few pieces of pita bread left, so they gave us some sourdough to supplement. The pita bread was definitely tastier and paired more seamlessly with the chicken than the sourdough. Taste-wise, I enjoyed the garlic dip that accompanied the chicken, however the flavor of the chicken itself wasn't anything out of this world for me. I normally love potatoes but I wasn't huge on the taste and texture of the ones here. I thought the orzo was ok, but would recommend trying out their other options for side dishes. The baguette came out first which was delicious, but the butter itself tasted a little old? It had a cheese-y aftertaste which usually means it's been sitting on the fridge for a while. Hummus was next, which was delicious and whet our appetites for the main course. The highlight: the chicken. All of us agreed it was so JUICY...especially the CHICKEN BREAST ITSELF!!! We all wish that our normal chicken breast was that juicy. Loved the garlic dip that also accompanied the dish. The Our Slaw was also great and wasn't a traditional coleslaw but had more of a salad taste -- which I appreciated since I'm not a fan of coleslaw. Our other sides that we chose included in the picnic included Orzo Salta and the Caramelized Cauliflower which were also solid sides. Although the sides were all supposed to be large, I felt like the side we ordered on the side was actually larger than those included in the picnic combo. I went on a Sunday afternoon and had to wait in line for about 40 minutes. I only later found out that if you just wanted to order to go, you could walk right in and order. The line is for seating. Once you get seated, you have to go inside and order and then sit down and wait. I ordered the lamb kabobs, which were absolutely amazing. We also ordered two of the quarter chicken plates that came with two sides each. My chicken was pretty dry and it took about 45 minutes to come out. I loved the potato salad. The orzo was very bland. The harissa carrots were nice and flavorful. The tabouli was refreshing. I think I would go back for the kebabs and maybe the potato salad. Avocado toast is huge with lots of avocado and other veggies. It's visually impressive. But not as flavorful as it looks. Roti chicken: the skin is very tasty. I ordered the quarter chicken and expected it to be leg and thigh. But it was wing and breast. To my surprise the breast was juicy! But if you prefer dark meat I guess you have to tell them that. With the chicken you can get 2 sides. Potatoes (mentioned above), and tabbouleh salad, which was my one slight disappointment. It was made fresh that day - which, I find, makes it less flavorful and harder to chew the parsley than when the salad is allowed to marinate in the dressing overnight. A couple of minutes later, he came back with the same plate and a small bowl of dressing. I added the dressing and started eating, but the lettuce was so chewy it felt like kale. The chicken didn't wow me. I think our chicken was slightly undercooked. I saw some pink. The apricot sourdough was very hard to chew and it lacked that sourness that I love in sourdough. I walked by Ojai Rotie when I was in Ojai last month, and it was totally packed during the weekend lunch rush. I was curious about it, and got a chance to check it out when I was back in town last week. I met up with some other folks for an early dinner before a 6:00 event at Bart's Books. The place was quiet at 5:00 on a Wednesday and ideal for our particular needs. We had our pick of tables on the peaceful, attractive patio. Service was friendly, very informal. We were seated and supplied with menus, then ordered at a counter. The food was then brought to our table in a timely manner, though we had to eat fast to make it out to Bart's. It is possible to get a quick bite here, but it's probably better suited to a languorous picnic-style meal. The food was delicious, the menu built around Ojai Rotie's fantastic rotisserie chicken and handmade sourdough. We ordered a few of the snacks and a chicken meal, which came with a bunch of sides. It was a nice, nourishing dinner, and everything was easy to share. I enjoyed the spread of snacks at least as much as the chicken. I loved both the lebne and the muhamarra. The lebne was a lush, thick strained yogurt with charred lemon, olive oil, and zahtar; the muhamarra a flavorful spread of roasted red pepper with walnuts, breadcrumbs, tahini, and pomegranate. Both came with Rotie's excellent grilled flatbread. The lamb kafta was lovely, too, hearty Lebanese meatballs served with lebne, cucumber, radish, and harissa. The chicken meal came with free-range rotisserie chicken, choice of two picnic sides, pickled turnip, whipped garlic, and grilled flatbread. Everything you need for that winner winner chicken dinner. The chicken was superb, tender and juicy with a pleasant char to the skin. I preferred the dark meat, but it was all good, especially with that fatty garlic spread. We got the carrots and cauliflower for our sides and these were both fine if not that memorable. Cardamom carrots came with red quinoa salad, sumac chickpeas, harissa, and parsley, and caramelized cauliflower with turmeric, pine nuts, golden raisins, baby kale, and orange. They were both cold and crunchy without being pickled, a subgenre of vegetable preparation that doesn't appeal to me personally. I was impressed with Ojai Rotie and would highly recommend it for a relaxing al fresco meal in Ojai. The food is top notch and there's alcohol, too, a robust list of beer and wine, much of it pretty local. Next time, I'll order a glass. read more

We got the Picnic for 4 meal which comes with a whole chicken, 2 large sides, and some other things. I must say, this was probably the BEST rotisserie chicken I've ever eaten (but tbh most of the rotisserie chickens I've eaten come from costco for $5 lmao). It was seasoned so well and was so flavorful; the skin had a great crunch and the meat was extremely juicy. With the first bite, I was amazed. I would come back for just the chicken. The other parts of the meal were just alright in my opinion but a good complement. The service seemed subpar in my opinion - not that it was bad or anybody was rude. It's just that there is basically no service here. You line up yourself to go order at a cash register. I had to fill up my own pitcher of water for a few minutes and bring cups to my own table. When I went inside and asked for togo boxes at the end of the meal, they told me to go get it myself and that they were outside. The workers honestly seemed annoyed that I was disturbing their conversation when I asked, or maybe it was a stupid question... This seems to be one of the more popular restaurants in Ojai and I'm glad I gave it a try. This place is definitely popular for a reason. All seating is on a cute outdoor patio. We ended up waiting 20-30 minutes in line on a weekend afternoon just to get seated. Customer service is very minimal. You go up to the counter, order and pay for your food, and then get your own utensils, water, and plates as you wait for the servers to bring out your food. After being seated, the service was so slow--we waited probably 40 minutes for our food to come out. And when it came out, they gave us the wrong order? They gave us the whole chicken platter and baklava instead of the picnic meal, so we were missing a lot of items + they gave us the wrong sides, and wrong size of sides. We then had to wait another 10-ish minutes for them to bring out the extras, but in the meantime, they did not clarify whether the food on our table (which we presumed was probably someone else's order they got mixed up with ours) was okay to be eaten by us, since we didn't know if they were going to replace the whole thing or just add more items. We had a poor service experience, spending over an hour total of just waiting to eat at this place. The only saving grace for this place is its delicious food. We ordered the Pick-Up-Picnic for four, which was more than enough for three people, leaving us stuffed and with plenty leftovers. The chicken is juicy and generously seasoned, the sourdough is fluffy and is perfect with the creamy butter, and the potatoes are soft and savory.
