Ordered a California burrito the other day, sour cream was completely curdled and rancid, it's was unreal that someone would put this in a burrito and serve it, it looked and smelled unmistakable, we wanted to support this place because it's near by and we have heard good things. I know things may not be super fresh considering corona virus, but this was a safety issue that was complete unacceptable. I called and the gentlemen that answered was very nice, but he didn't offer to fix the situation, he kept telling me to substitute guacamole next time or ask for more cheese. Very disappointed. Also just found this review from The other location. I didn't mention this in my review because the curdled sour cream was the issue I had let people about due to safety. But this is elegantly what happen to us, $21 was our total, we were charged $41. Unacceptable. read more

Purchased the Carne Asada Chips, probably the worst I have ever had from a restaurant. Unfortunately they looked good when I opened the box, all though I will say they sat on the counter for about 5 - 8 minutes after they came up from the kitchen. Meat and toppings okay, it was primarily the chips, the base for the meal, kinda like getting a burrito and the insides taste great but the actual tortilla tastes bad. Chips tasted stale and like they went into a microwave, everyone I know would never put chips in the microwave, its Mexican food it should be fresh, deep fry that stuff and top it off. This place has really declined in the quality, taste, and serving size of their food :( Ordered this carnitas burrito, last week, paid $13 and some change only to get what's pictured... immediately called, the gentleman in the front was super nice and very apologetic and asked me to come in and speak to a manager... Did that, and, the lady in the back cooking (manager) was beyond rude and super defensive. She told me, pretty much, too bad because that is their serving portions and nothing she can do. Surprisingly good for a little Mexican restaurant located in a shopping center. I'm usually skeptical of food in strip mall-ish places as it's usually pretty bland.. But Jorge's is an exception! I came in on a Saturday afternoon around lunch time and it was busy but the line moves quickly. You order at the counter and 5-10 minutes later when your food is ready, they will call your order number. I ordered a fish taco ($2.75) and a taco salad with beef ($6.25). First. The fish taco was actually huge! I was full from this alone. A huge piece of fried fish inside a tortilla with onions, cilantro, and some sort of orange-spicy-remoulade-ish sauce. The taco salad was also very good. On first look, it appears as a traditional taco salad inside a taco shell bowl . After digging in.. I found the beef to actually be like stewed beef in Mexican spices.. Rather than a simple ground beef. Definitely unexpected .. In a good way! It's great food for the price.. This restaurant located across from the Scripps Encinitas Hospital has some of the best chicken soup! Unfortunately, the California Burrito leaves a lot to be desired. Now, this isn't a one-time fly off the handle review. I actually ordered this burrito on 2 separate occasions to give it a chance. The first time was around 9:30am and the nice employee suggested it because I wanted the carne asada meat with some sort of potatoes. I thought, "great!" Then added guacamole to the order making the price around $10 and change. When I got home and began to eat all I tasted were potatoes. No kidding, there was barely any meat - so sad. Not only that, the potatoes were old, reused and lukewarm. I've made country potatoes many times and a cook knows when potatoes have gotten old and stale. I chalked it up to one bad experience but I wouldn't let that stop me. About 3 days later I had the same craving so I went back. But this time I asked them to go easy on the potatoes and add more meat. Let's not forget the guacamole! When I got home...ugh! The meat potato ratio was not 3:1 but 1.5:1, still plenty of reused, stale, lukewarm, horrible potatoes! The carne asada meat - some of the bits were burned. Ugh, again! I'm done and disappointed. Highly recommend their Texcoco soup. Both locations offer consistently good food. Their fish tacos are always fresh and stay crisp. The staff is great about special requests for orders and unlike many other taco shops has always gotten our requests for our somewhat picky daughter correct. This is the best spicy chicken soup in Encinitas. I have tried the others and this place is always 5/5. Their salsa is soo spicy and delicious - I recommend getting a tub to go and a bag of chips. The chips will last in the pantry for 3-4 days. The crispy chicken tacos are also good. Not greasy and packed full. This place is great for what it is but I'd stick with the soup, chips and salsa, and crispy chicken tacos. The quesadilla and carne asada are fine but way too greasy. There's better carne elsewhere. I might be getting ahead of myself cause I have only eaten here once but they may have the best crispy chicken tacos I have ever had and I've had well over 100. Typically grease is running out the back end, shells fall apart and it's an unhealthy mess. These were just the opposite, super clean w a good amount of guac and the rice and beans didn't taste like they were made w a pound of lard. I was in the area and found this cool taco shop right off the freeway. I tried the Tuesday Special which was delicious tangy pork chile verde, rice and beans, corn tortilla, soft drink, all for under $10. The whole meal was perfect and I'm looking forward to trying more of the menu and specials. But for Tuesdays, I'm sticking with this Special. Parking is decent, staff is great, location is nice. Our favorite restaurant in Encinitas, period. Food is always fresh and tasty. Terrific spicy salsa. Sweet and friendly proprietors. We want them to stay in business forever. Now that they take phone orders, it's easy to get your food without hanging around. Recyclable cartons, minimal packaging. The worst thing that's ever happened to me here was that on a really busy day, I was given a beef taco and chicken enchilada, instead of chicken taco and beef enchilada. I LOVE the chicken soup here. I got food poisoning last year and I lived off this soup for three days (without the spice). It was the only thing I could eat and I swear it has healing properties! :) Every time I am nearby I come in and get it to go - a lovely staple. I ask for extra onions and cilantro and ask for the hot sauce on the side. They are very nice and personable here, too. read more

The California burrito was dry as a bone and the adobada burrito was more like a chile rojo burrito--I only know it wasn't what I ordered. Below average quality Mexican food here pairs well with poor customer service. The guy at the counter did not crack a smile for any of the many customers that came in here. Food was also not very good at all. I got the rolled taco plate that came with beans, rice, and a drink. It was the Thursday special for $6.25. The rolled tacos only came with guacamole that was more runny than creamy. They were actually pretty good. The beans were very bland and needed some salt. The rice was dry but had potential for flavor. They have coke products here. Their water from the soda machine came out brown tinged (see picture). There are a few seats outside and some inside as well. The chairs aren't very comfortable outside, but it is shaded. Parking isn't bad at all. We won't be back here for a second try. read more

4.5 This review is for the chicken soup. I have not physically been to this location, but my colleague swears they have the best chicken soup and promised to bring in a sample. So today, she presents to my office with a cup of chicken soup. The soup contains chunks of chicken breast, onion, tomato, green onion, Serrano peppers (I think), cilantro rice and avo. WOW!!! The flavor is amazing, and yet, so hearty!!! I also ate a side of tortillas, which were also amazing. The chicken soup is homemade and made fresh to order. Veggies still had their crunch and the broth is very flavorful. I heard at times there is a wait just for the soup! I cannot wait to try other items on their menu. I'm very critical of Mexican restaurants as I was raised on this food. But the food at Jorge's made me feel like I was eating my moms home cooking. We had a carne asada burrito, beef taquitos, caldo de pollo, and a quesadilla. The carne asada was seasoned well and the quesadilla and caldo was not greasy at all. All the food was so delicious. Stopped by Jorge's today and thought it was pretty good. I ordered the California burrito, which is usually the staple of what I order. I normally choose that first and expand to other things on future visits. The carne asada was pretty tasty, and tasted different from other local Mexican spots near my area. The fries are a bit unusual but taste pretty good. They come in potato chunks and have pretty good taste to it. Food is pretty good and I really don't have any complaints. One thing I wish was a bit better was their salsa. I didn't care too much for it and was hoping for a better compliment. Other than that, no complaints.
