Stopped by Jorge's today and thought it was pretty good. I ordered the California burrito, which is usually the staple of what I order. I normally choose that first and expand to other things on future visits. The carne asada was pretty tasty, and tasted different from other local Mexican spots near my area. The fries are a bit unusual but taste pretty good. They come in potato chunks and have pretty good taste to it. Food is pretty good and I really don't have any complaints. One thing I wish was a bit better was their salsa. I didn't care too much for it and was hoping for a better compliment. Other than that, no complaints. Ok so I get it, prices are over inflated because it's Encinitas but at least match the quality so that it's worth it. I recently started working in the area and I was craving a burrito on my lunch hour. I decided to try this place out to see how I like it. I came in and there wasn't very many people in there... I decided to go with the veggie burrito until I saw that it was $6.50 and doesn't even come with guac!!! WTF. How are they gonna do us (vegetarians) like that. Literally for that price you are paying for rice, beans, and some lettuce. Then when I confirmed with the guy at the counter that it really doesn't come with any guac he started laughing talking about we always have to pay extra for things now a days.... So I changed my mind at that point and I told him I was going to go with a breakfast burrito and he said "nope" and pointed up at the menu and thats when I realized that they only serve breakfast until 11:30, and I was there an hour after that. So back to the veggie burrito since there isn't really anything else on the menu I could go with..... I told him I didn't want the beans and he said he would exchange the beans for the guac which I thought was a nice gesture. Then I went on to ask him to add potatoes to make it taste better. I figured 50 cents maybe even 75 to add them....NOPE, $1 extra. Then he went on to recommend cabbage in the burrito instead of lettuce and I went with it. The cabbage is cut in huge chunks just as a heads up, not thinly sliced (wasn't a fan). There also isn't a salsa bar which is wack for a Mexican joint in my opinion. He did include some salsas with my burrito but I didn't really like them and would have preferred some green salsa. I haven't been here in years and it's not close to home. I was craving the famous chicken soup so I drove down to it yesterday. Ordered the large to take home. $12.28. Pricey but I expected awesome. Got home a couple hours later, took it out of cooler and poured into a pan to heat up a little. It was a huge disappointment!! 3/4 of it was rice!!!! Not at all what I wanted to nourish myself with. Called and person who answered and he said to call today (Sunday for the owner) and of course they are closed. The charge went through sadly. I had hopes they'd void it. Anyway, the hassle goes on. I had read that Jorge's Mexicatessen had an excellent Chicken soup, and yes, they were right! Since I discovered this restaurant, every time that I feel under the weather, I go here and get a Large Mexico City Chicken Soup for take out. It is large enough that I get 2 large bowls out of 1 large soup... Delicious, and makes you feel better when you are sick. I have also tried their chicken with mole and it is good as well. This review is just for the soup which seems to be the popular hot item at this location. It has been chilly and I thought why not? This chicken soup was a bit disappointing. I was hoping for more Mexican flavors but it just tasted like regular chicken soup with chicken breasts that tasted like it has been sitting out in the open for awhile. The only Mexican thing about it was the bit of salsa in it and big floating pieces of avocadoes (always a win). However, I'll probably order it again if I'm sick and need something warm. I just shouldn't expect it to be anything special. This is by far the worst Mexican food restaurant I've ever been to. I had been up working for twelve hours without eating and still thought this food was horrible and definitely not worth stopping in. I paid 7.25 for a Rolled Taco Thursday special. Beans were nasty and watered down. Rolled tacos were tiny and I guess they thought I was lactose because there was no cheese in sight. Also, I purchased my girlfriend a cheese enchilada and the red sauce was dark brown/tasted like pennies. Very let down by this place and will never come back. The cashier looks at us all bothered and tells the lady behind us to cut Cus " they're not ready, you can order ahead of them" big fat Mexican dude , I'm Mexican I've never been treated this way by my own kind , does he feel superior to other raza because he works fast food in a predominantly Caucasian city? For over a decade, I have eaten at and ordered take-out at Jorge's. I always ordered the Chicken Tortilla Soup until it became so salty, it was uneatable. And, sometimes, it was almost all rice and very little chicken. I gave up on your soup and started ordering burritos. My standard order became a Pork Burrito and a Fish Burrito. Today, after a 45 minute drive home, my husband and I opened up the take-out bag to find a Fish Burrito and a Shrimp Burrito. Neither of us eats shrimp. When we unrolled it, there were mostly chunks of white onion. It went into the trash. We shared the Fish Burrito. It too, was mostly chunks of white onion and too spicy. When I phoned you, and asked if you had given me the wrong order, you told me that it was my mistake. YOU heard me say shrimp, even though when you gave me the order, I again said, a Pork Burrito and a Fish Burrito. And, you said yes. My only mistake is giving you my business for all these years. My loyalty has meant nothing to you. During this COVID-19 struggle, I have made a conscious effort to support local businesses. I'm going to be %100 honest with you. This place is mediocre forsure as far as food and pricing. You could literally go just about anywhere else and find better deals for more authentic food. The staff is great and really friendly but I am always not very impressed with my food at all. I tried ordering something as basic as rolled tacos and what they had gave me could have been made by a 9 year old kid. The tacos looked microwaved and they only put a skimpy amount of guacamole nothing else. If I wanted to have lettuce, cheese, or sour cream just like every other mexican food joint they want to charge me 75 cents for each item. Disappointing, I'm not in the same position as the average encinitas local who has nothing worry about besides what beach they're going to hangout at. So yeah I will drive the extra 2 miles from my favorite park to get food at a different restaurant because I've given this place plenty of chances to prove me wrong but they only keep disappointmenting. read more

I love coming here for lunch. It's just right across the street from my work, and I tried their famous Chicken Soup and it did not disappoint. Chicken soup is usually isn't my first go to soup, because I've had bad experiences, but I finally tried theirs for the first time today and it was amazeballs. I have tried the Carne Asada burrito, California burrito, Carnitas crispy taco, beef crispy taco, chicken crispy taco, veggie crispy taco, taquitos, and the cheese quesadilla. The Carne Asada burrito was one of the best I've had. The tacos are amazing as well, you have to get the crispy ones those are the most amazing crispy tacos, I drive from Oceanside just for those..I also recommend trying the veggie taco even if you're not a vegetarian it's really good.
