I've been buying from Jos. A. Bank for about ten years and this was my first time visiting the store in Columbia. It's the typical Jose. A. Bank with an extremely friendly staff and the store is well kept. Unfortunately the store seems to be understaffed at all times. I've been in twice to get fitted for a new suite and both times I had to wait in excess of one hour. Maybe it's just bad luck on my part, however management should consider properly staffing the store. The last time I was in the store (today 08/14/2019) there was one gentleman and the taylor. The one gentleman did his best to manage having 7 different customers in the shop, however it was a failure. Jose. A. Bank is typically an outstanding organization however if possible I'd say try another location where they properly staff the store. We purchased a custom tuxedo for our wedding at a different Jos. A Bank location. When we went it for measurements and alterations, they did not listen to our requests and basically told us they couldn't make any changes. A week before our wedding, we called the Columbia location and they instantly let us come in, made all the alterations that the other store said weren't possible and got it done for us in only 5 days. Mister and the woman who helped us were kind, helpful and incredibly knowledgeable. We highly recommend this location!! read more

I do get and understand the other reviews here because service at one of these stores, including Men's Warehouse, could be luck of the draw. I walked into this place and instantly was greeted with professionalism and kindness. The store manager, Charlton, had incredible knowledge and customer service when helping me with my suit selection. Not only did I get two amazing suits that fit me perfectly but he educated me on a few things for suit etiquette. By far the best suit shopping experience in my life. Best place. Period. read more

Worse experience. We went the day before and the store was slightly crowded. We went over to the area which looks like it is for the rental tuxs and etc... however no one in the store spoke to us. We stood around for about 5 minutes or more before we had to finally approach someone. Which basically the one guy said well, since you are renting a tux we only have one person to handle that so I can't help you. Couldn't even explain the process to us. We had to ask someone else if we could do an appointment and filled out some basic paperwork. Where who knows where that went to. We came back today for our appointment and once again we had to wait. However, the young man who runs the Tux rental portion is actually very nice. The other gentleman who work for Jos A Bank who could use to some serious work in customer service. At one point, I assume this other guy is a manager or something (maybe) walks over to us interrupts us and tells the young man well I need to use your system. Doesn't say excuse me to us or even acknowledge that he was currently helping us, because he and his customer were more important. Which meant we had to wait while he interrupted our service for his needs. Also after reading the many other negative reviews that makes me think twice of having my fiancé utilize their service, if they can't even provide proper customer service. While we were there, many other customers were upset and many left angry and or upset! I can only imagine that this is a regular occurrence at this Jos A Banks location. read more

Terrible experience renting a tuxedo. When I returned it, and started to complain, the sales rep handed me a card with a general customer service e-mail on it. I'm not even sure this place has anyone accountable. Here were the problems: 1) The tuxedo didn't arrive in the store for pickup until Friday afternoon, 3/22, the day before my event. They had promised it no later than Wednesday, in case it needed to be adjusted. Arriving Friday allowed for little margin for error. Further, I had to call several times to get an update on status. 2) When I arrived in the store to try it on and pick it up, the fit was not good - the jacket was too small, and would not even button. Someone on the floor actually asked me who measured me, and told me that there was no tailor available. It seemed like the best option for me was to make due, given the short notice and my limited availability on Saturday. 3) The shirt was actually ripped, which I didn't notice until I was dressing on Saturday before the event. The tear was located in such a way that the stud would not stay on the shirt, and I came close to losing it on several occasions during the event. Also, several times the shirt itself became unbuttoned, creating embarrassment. 4) Finally, after being told numerous times, both the day I was fitted and the day I picked it up, that it was due back to the store on Monday (not Sunday, which was the day after the event), my account showed a late charge. The sales rep did ultimately waive that charge, but it sure seemed to indicate that renting tuxes is not their specialty. I e-mailed the customer service address, and I am still waiting for a response. I'll never again go to Jos. A. Bank, I guarantee. read more

My husband and I went shopping here today and, after reading the horrible reviews posted, you wouldn't know it's the same store. Wallace, who helped us, went overboard to be supportive. He is a model employee and we look forward to dealing with him again when we return which we shall. Another employee approached us shortly after we walked in and inquired if she could help us, too. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IN THE WORLD. I need to get this off my chest - I HATE this Jos A Bank. I've been there several times (why?why?) and each time, I have a tremendously terrible experience. This time truly outshined all other visits. We first arrived and got in line at the register to get fitted for a suit for a wedding in August. We stood in line for 15 minutes before we were called to the register. Once we got there, we watched the salesperson answer the phone EVERY time it rang, and then listened while he spent time answering each person's questions. NUMBER ONE RULE OF SALESMANSHIP IS TO ATTEND TO THE PEOPLE WHO ARE IN YOUR FREAKING STORE. Finally, he put down the god damn phone and asked how he could help us. We told him that my husband needed to get fitted for a suit for a wedding. The salesman asked us to hold on and then proceeded to walk around the store for 10 minutes, helping other customers. He came back and asked us again what we wanted. We repeated ourselves, and he directed us to a computer where he told us he would search for the wedding. Here's the kicker. He couldn't find the wedding in the system. We repeated the name of the bride and groom several times. He even stated that he remembered them coming in and picking out the suits, but for whatever reason he just could not find their order. Then he asked another salesperson, who is apparently an "expert" with the system, help us find the order. Our new salesperson then took 2 freaking phone calls. Finally he came over. And surprise, surprise, this expert couldn't find the order either!! Another 20 minutes of sitting and waiting while all other customers are prioritized over us, and finally they decide to just take my husband's measurements and then figure out which suit they need to order later. I swear my husband or I waste at least an hour an a half every time we set foot in this place. Big mistake to use them for my wedding tuxedo rentals, and to buy 2 suits from them. I guess the suits we bought in the end were nice and a good price, but not worth the wasted time. I will never go back here for another "good deal" because of the amount of time wasted and the frustration as well. Their biggest problem is their lack of organization/communication amongst each other. Anytime I called or went into the store to ask about my wedding party or the suits, they had no idea what I was talking about and it took at least 5 minutes just for them to find us in the system. We didn't have a complicated order or anything.. jeeze. The staff is nice enough, they just don't seem to know what is going on...ever. Incredibly disappointed. My brother chose Jos A Bank for his wedding tuxedos for the whole wedding party - and every single person had mis-measured sizing issues. One had a shirt that wasn't even close to the right size - and when they had to overnight the correct one that arrived on the wedding day - it was completely the wrong color. Seemed completely disorganized and not up to the task of getting all nine of our tuxedoes correct. Plan on using someone else if you are thinking about renting tuxes from them. read more

This store has a serious problem with their staff. I think they must have a place in the back where they take a nap. It takes forever to get someone to answer questions and then it is yes,no with no other explanation. An example is are the travel suits good in all climates? Do they hold up in very humid climate? Are they comfortable in humid weather. What about in cold climate, how are they?The answers were, uh, uh yes, uh, uh, uh yes, yeah, uh,uh,uh, yeah. The whole time the salesperson was yawning and rubbing his eyes like he just woke up. We left the store and considered buying a dictionary for the salesman, but decided he wouldn't know what to do with it. They may have nice clothes, but the help is frm Walmart. They have screwed up 5 out 7 tux rentals - including the grooms!!! 3 of the guys were fitted, ordered and paid and their info 'just wasn't submitted'. At 3 different stores!! The "customer service" number says they can't see orders placed in the store, so I asked who I needed to talk to about a problem with a store, and you know what they said? This number. Ugh. Michelle came over to us immediately and was incredibly helpful. We were looking for dress shirts and ties, so she gave us our space while we were browsing and checked in on us from time to time. This store doesn't even rate a 1 star, but the site requires it for the review. I'm usually a Mens Warehouse kind of guy, but my company has a corporate disc out with Jos A Bank that I thought I would try to replace some of my suits with. This particular location had to be one of THE MOST unprofessional stores I have ever been in. From the time I walked in the door, 3 different salesman, acknowledged me with their nods, and continued about what they were doing. I finally decided to just stand on the end of one of the racks till it was so painfully obvious that I might need something that one of the guys gave a huge stressful sigh that I was interrupting whatever it was he was doing. From there it just went downhill. He kept telling me that I needed to get measured and I continued to wait while he did many other tasks. After he finally decided it was worth asking what I was looking for (I was looking for the clearance racks for a quick sport coat and slacks), he decided that he wanted to show me the full price suits. Once I was able to get him to focus on what I wanted, and not what he wanted, he proceeded to tell me that they could have the tailoring done in about 30 mins while I waited............so I tried on the suit, had the tailor come out and fit it up............then after about 15 mins of waiting, he proceeds to come out and tell me that it will be 3 days because the tailor is just too backed up. Mind you, I'm already an hour and half into this excursion. The salesman actually stood up for me at this point and got who I assume to be his manager to go to the tailor and see what the hold up was. He comes out and tells me that there is no way to make the tailor do what I needed without all the customers ahead of me "getting screwed over in the process". After that, he tells another salesman to ring me up and provide me the name of a tailor across town that "might" be able to help me. uuummmm, NO!!!! So I asked if they could find that suit in the inventory of another store location, and he says, "I'm sure you could, but you'll get the same answer from them." It's not the answer I was worried about. It was the level of customer service. Finally, after about 2 hours of non-sense haggling, I walked out and told them I was going back to Mens Warehouse. If you continue to read my profile reviews, you'll see I went to another location where the difference was like night and day. My son was looking for a couple of slim suit sets. After searching online I found Jos A Bank to have the best deals. I purchased 2 suits then another a few days later. The next day the suit was on sale and without my knowledge I had a promo code to use. This was $100 savings! I contacted customer relations and they were very helpful. I did not have to cancel my order as I thought would be the solution. They credited my account without any hassle. Saving money and customer service is always top on my list. Do NOT use this location. I had a very negative experience with the Columbia, MD Jos A Bank location for my wedding group tuxedo rental. Most notably, I would like to point out the store manager, whose name is Charleton. I initiated the group and placed an initial $40 deposit to create this group back several months ago in late Spring. When I opened the group, I notified the individual (whose name I do not recall -- possibly Sam?) that I was going to be having these shipped down to the New Orleans, LA location. He told me that would be no problem. I only recently came to find (only about 6 weeks out from my event date) once an individual from my group went in for a fitting, that the New Orleans location is a franchise and does not have tuxedo rental set up and therefore would not accommodate such a request. How this information got overlooked and I was not notified of this prior to one of the members of my party going in for a fitting is absolutely ridiculous.In addition to that, I had multiple conversations with Columbia location representatives, including Charleton, who claimed they would call me back upon looking into concerns about issues I was having with this account. Multiple times however they failed to call me back accordingly. Overall, it is because of the lack of thoroughness and a failure to perform their jobs well, which is why I ultimately had to cancel my group with Jos A Bank last night, ultimately losing my business completely and the business of the rest of my wedding party. read more

I browsed the suit selection for a good 10 minutes, looking around for a customer service representative every so often, but no one made an effort to speak to me. I ended up leaving when I realized nothing was about to change. Are you serious? I came in to do an exchange and only I guy can do an exchange but he's selling a suit so I get to stand there and wait 45 minutes to exchange large shirts for medium shirts. Just spent $400 the day before. Needless to say I returned everything and left with my money back. Do not go here. And now the credit card machine won't credit back the $400 so they offered to mail me a check in 6-8 weeks. Are you serious? This place is a scam. read more

For anyone reading this, have you ever walked into a department store looking for assistance only to walk out after being yelled at, demanded to leave the store, and have a purchased item literally waved in your face by a store manager because she wants you to leave? Yeah, me neither. Until it happened to me at this Jos A bank in Columbia just a few days ago. I came to exchange a belt that I've been having trouble finding a match for with my off colored dress shoes. That exchange took place at a branch from a different location than today's visit. After shopping around I found the right belt from the local mall instead. So I'm set, I decide to just take the wrong belt in for a return, simple. When I got there the manager, Gwen, gave a cold vibe even before saying a word. Just looked at me without a hello, how are you, hi, whats up? Nothing, she just took my receipt and proceeded with her computer. After concluding that this was an "exchange receipt" rather than an original receipt she refused to give me a refund. Calmly, I question her reasoning. I proceed to dispute her refusal since we can clearly see the original purchase on her computer, the original item clearly printed on my exchange receipt along with the exchanged item, i have the card with me used to purchase, with the item clearly in new condition since it was never worn. Still she refused and said I needed to provide my bank statement for proof of purchase? Gwen, oh Gwen... What a a temper you have. The rude attitude from this woman and the ridiculously poor customer service skills she displayed on that day were enough for me to write a public lashing and warn anyone considering being a customer here to think twice, very hard. She has angered me to no end as I have never in my life had an employee yell and demand me to leave a store immediately. I will be contacting her district manager in the hopes that my experience will prevent a similar incident from occurring here. But I can't say that I'm optimistic based on the experience I have had with this business. read more

I have never felt more helpless and frustrated in a customer service situation then when I went to this store to order my son's bow tie for a wedding. This issue spanned across many Jos A Bank locations. The issue was that Jos A Bank told the bride that the groomsmen could go to any location to place their order using the wedding account. When I arrived at our local Jos A Bank, they acted like this was compelely unheard of. I left and confirmed with the bride that this process was right and came back. All of the sudden they were able to help me. It was a nightmare from there. They told me the bowtie would cost $140 to rent. I refused to pay. They said it was an error by the person who created the wedding account, but there was nothing they could do. I had to pay $140 for the bow tie even thought it should be $30. They kept calling me "young lady" and patronizing me, offered me no solutions. Finally, they allowed me to make a $30 deposit on the bow tie until the ordering store cleared up their error. When we attempted to pick up the bow tie at the store near the wedding location, they told me I had a $110 balance for the bow tie. They also agreed it should only be $30, but that the ordering store messed it up and there was nothing they could do. I told them there was no way I was paying $140 for a BOW TIE for two days. They finally let it go. THEN, when we returned the bow tie, the store again tried collect $110 for it even though they knew a bow tie is only $30... SUCH A NIGHTMARE! To top it off, they also ordered the groom's tie in the wrong color. Every person we encountered was so unhelpful and unaware of store process. Fast forward months later, my husband is a groomsman in a wedding and needs to order a suit from Jos A Bank. Every member of the bridal party who has gone to the store has gotten the run around. Horrible experience will never go back to this store. Went in to get my son a tuxedo for prom. Had gone yesterday to do this but was told to come back today when someone else was available. So today's second visit store was mildly crowded - I was immediately told to wait and be patient and Don walked away. We finally got a drop of help - but Don repeatedly helped many people at once, including people just walking in while we stood and waited. Over and over. And over some more. No time to ask any questions or get help. My son was given a pair of pleated pants and walked away. Given a jacket, walked away again. Finally got super frustrated and annoyed and asked salesperson what the problem was. He told me how busy he was and I have to be patient (again). I said I have been patient but this is inappropriate and ridiculous. I ended up letting him know I would be leaving a review on yelp and never coming back to any jos a bank store. He gave me the manager's card - as if I could care less at that point complaining to his manager. More waste of time. Go to Men's Wearhouse or Macy's - who now rents tuxedo's also.
