At the time, it seemed as though there were none available in Chicago, but surely enough Ij's Cuts Barbershop was open. Via Booksy, I booked an appointment with Vito, and drove to Melrose Park all the way out from the west-side of Chicago after experiencing those two cancellations. Ij's Cuts Barbershop sits within a small strip of businesses along a trafficky North Ave. With the shop being a shared barber space, the vibe felt very lively with music blaring and commotion amongst barber to barber, and client to barber. I always pull up my desired haircut via Booksy from the barbers' portfolio to give the barber an idea of what I am looking for. Most of the time, it is the rating and pictured haircuts that build the interest for my visit. I noticed that Vito confirms what you are looking for prior to moving on to any portions of your hair. He is professional, sociable, funny, and puts genuine effort into his work. And he did a great job cutting my hair in spite of me booking within hours of my visit. I would gladly book Vito from Ij's Cuts Barbershop again in the future because of all the aforementioned. I most definitely recommend it, if you are looking for the same. The top, sides, and crown are all different lengths, the crown is choppy, and the shape doesrit match on either side. The haircut only looked "okay"in the shop because my hair was styled and sponged in a way that hid the mistakes, When I got home, washed and styled it myself, the uneven areas were obvious. I reached out 'espectfully, and instead of taking responsibilty, he tried to charge me again to fix a mistake he made, A professional barber stands behind their work. The back is lopsided and 2 different lengths and he has bangs that remind me of when I cut my own hair when I was 5. 90% of beard trim is okay except it's not lined up. One sides about an inch lower in than the other. For $40!!! I actually think they only use their left hand here. 2/10 don't recommend.

I requested my barber specifically for a 1 & 2 fade and keeping the middle part long. Instead, she gave me a bowl cut in the back and below the bowl, everything was a pretty much a 1 shave. I had to go to another local barber and pay $30 more dollars to get it fixed. He also pulled strings of hair by my ears, as it was left unshaven. I asked for a refund weeks ago. At first, she was nice about it. She gave me the option of getting my refund once she returns to the UIC salon (she works independently in other locations). She said she'd text me on her cell phone to let me know. Unfortunately, after 2/3 weeks she still hasn't reached back and I've texted her few times as a reminder. Poor quality/Poor Service

She is simply fantastic. She has a high level of communication, always checking in with you before she does something. And $12 for a haircut is a very decent price! On top of it all, she is really, really good at what she does. She always cuts my hair perfectly. Usually there isn't a wait, but I do recommend calling ahead to get a reservation. She does three cuts an hour - at the top of the hour, 20 minutes after and twenty minutes to. Also, because she's located on the UIC West Campus, her downtown is when school is not in session, so if it's the winter break or summer break, etc. it's best to call ahead to make sure she's in. They have four chairs set up, but I have only seen Maria cutting hair there - and to be honest, if someone else came in, I'm not sure I'd abandon Maria. Sure the shop itself doesn't have the most modern decor. In fact, it looks kind of run-down. And the fact that you have to find it in the basement makes it kind of an adventure. But these negatives aside, she's worth it. Also, bring cash - she doesn't take credit cards. My search for a barber is over and I'm so glad I found out about Maria.
