It was so terrible that I reached out to a friend who's hair is always immaculate and he pointed me to Oak & Steel. They did not disappoint. I have a big interview Friday, and my hair looked like three different haircuts. Carlos covered all the uneven lines, mismatched sideburns, large chunks of uncut hair and left me with exactly what I wished I had the first time. 10/10. Also, they have a bar upstairs. I asked about a kid's cut. He asked how old and scheduled us for first thing Sunday morning. I brought two photos - both similar, but my son really wanted a part in his hair. Upon chatting, he said that he had his storefront for the last 7 years, and came from a family of barbers: his father and grandfather before him. He put on a Nat Geo-type show for my son and got to work. Koko was meticulous and patient. He spent an HOUR resculpting my son's thick hair. It looks amazing - he clearly took onto account the photos, but also the anatomy of my child's head and the previous haircut (which he said wasn't good, especially on top). But in 2-3 haircuts, he says that the top will look better. He clearly has an artistic eye and is meticulous. There were no long stray hairs, and the end look doesn't look artificial or forced (like the straight-across bangs my son got elsewhere, mehh). In fact, it looks SO GOOD!! The cost was half of what I paid at the last (good, but not great) barbershop. Incredible. We have absolutely found our new barber. Thank you!!

He's very personable and listens to exactly what you want... and knows how to get the result you need. I then sent a text and Mr. Lopez responded. We set up a mobile appointment with one of his barbers for 5 pm today. He did not ask for my address and when I asked him if he needed it (since he was traveling to my hotel), I didn't get a response which raised a red flag. 5 pm comes and goes and I didn't hear from him. I reached out to ask if someone was coming, but I never got a response. I was disappointed because the shop's reviews were so positive. If you couldn't accommodate an appointment or had to cancel, just communicate that. No need to waste people's valuable time with horrible business practices.

For a fade that uses no guards and razors, I normally go to the city. It just so happens that Imperial Cutz is a true barber shop where all of the barbers are from the city. I got a tight zero fade side part for $25 with 10% off after a Yelp check it. My barber, Junior, shaved my hair to the skin and faded the rest to the top which takes skill. He's opening up a second location in Palatine if you are further up north. Imperial Cutz is bringing urban flare to Schaumpton and they are for realz, yo.
