I was at Jose Peppers Friday night for a dinner pick up and was surprised by answer I received from the girl who handed us our food. She apologized for the wait time and that they were"volunteers". I was surprised but continued to chat wondering if I was misunderstanding what she was talking about. I said "at least we all have jobs" and she responded"well most of us are on the unemployment and then volunteer here". I don't want anyone going without during these times, but her response makes me want to question as to why you are using your workforce as volunteers. Is that pass the workforce payroll to the tax payer while still using said workforce? I don't 1 star because I don't know if that's the case, but would like to hear an answer to this review from corporate. read more

Have visited this restaurant numerous times and it has always been a good experience. However, went late on a Wednesday evening and was very shocked at how dirty the floor was. The picture attached is my view under my table. Saw food on floor in quite a few areas. Food was good and service was good. Perhaps they are under staffed due to Covid. I purchased a chimichanga from them. It was good until I got to the paperclip in the center of it. I tried to get things worked out with them. I took pictures and talked to managers. They really don't care about the customers. The times I have ate in there it hasn't been very clean. I have gotten take out and had to wait forever even though I called ahead. Not very happy with the establishment. If you do choose to eat there though, just ask for your paperclip on the side......just in case! read more

Depending on what time of day you come here can be a hit or miss. By far one of my top 5 Mexican restaurants to eat at when I'm back in town visiting. When you go, make sure to order the espinaca dip, trust me you are going to love it! My favorite drink deal that they have is the margaritas 2 for $6 you can't beat that deal. The best thing on the menu by far is the Monterey Jack chicken burrito with rice and retried beans. The portions that you get there are very large, so you will have plenty of left overs. One of my favorite things about this place is that you do have a main server. But they are all about teamwork there, so if anyone sees that your drink/food is ready they drop it off. Parking is sometimes a pain because they get so packed all the time. Worst times to go is at lunch and on the weekends. So make sure to make reservations ahead of time if you can! read more

Even with COVID awareness we were sat at a dirty table which still had the previous customers credit card slip. We informed the manager and she walked up to the table and looked at the table and says "its clean we leave the slip for the waitress." There was chips & rice under the table and a dirty napkin. I was absolutely impressed with the way our server, Candace, and then the manager, Bill, answered our 20 questions game of dietary needs to our absolute satisfaction, and at a rather reasonable cost. Will we be back? Oh, you BETCHA!! For two vegans to walk out absolutely satisfied on all levels in a KC Mexican joint is no easy feat. And hot tip for spice lovers: ask for the extra habanero blend salsa... fabulous! If only our drinks had come out a bit more quickly it would have been 5 stars all the way. The food was amazing and a generous portion was delivered exactly when then they said it would be. They had part of the team checking who you were upon arrival and then they brought it right out. Horrible service. Go here often. Have walked out because of ZERO service in the last two weeks. Waitress walked by me twice. So went to bar. Same thing. Bartender finally shows up and starts telling me what I want because she thinks she knows me. Had to correct her on everything. She does not know me. Service is hit or miss. Only reason I keep coming back is the help changes so quickly there that I give a month or so and most of the horrible servers are gone. Also the food is always good and cheap price for lunch. Although we had poor service today, we had great food as always. Waitress would come and ask us if we needed drink refills and then she would come back empty handed we would have to remind her again each and every time. The final straw was when she told the kids that she would make a ice cream sundae for them because they were being good we waited 30 min. Several waitresses would come by and we would tell them that we were waiting on ice cream and drinks then they would disappear. We finally got ahold of a waitress that brought out ice cream in less than a minute and I asked to speak to the manager. The manager said it was unacceptable and would find out what was going on..... waited 10 min and never heard back from the manager so we left. Went here a few days ago, the restaurant was clean, staff friendly and they let us stay after we ate (didn't rush us out- that was SO nice!) However my issue was with the food. I ordered the Pollo Magnifico. Unimpressed, it was really super bland. Was chicken rolled in a tortilla covered in cheese. No Mexican spices, no jalepeno cream sauce. It basically tasted like a chicken quesadilla, which isn't a bad thing if that's what I ordered, but it wasn't. Hoping this was a mistake and if I return again that the food is seasoned. Horrible Front-End service. Front end folks totally disinterested in serving. Rather clean and update a chart or something. Too bad, the JP's in Shawnee was excellent. I was looking forward to this dinner. First table they tried put me at had a brooms at it. Hostess didn't even notice. Wasted 10 minutes waiting for a server, anyone, to even say I'll be right there. Obviously a communications problem; lack of training and supervision. I walked out. I spoke with 'manger' on way out. He said "don't go, I'll take care of you." Doesn't get it. I'm alone, laptop in hand. I'm not paying anyway, company is; don't need to be 'taken care of'. Just meet, you don't have to exceed, expectations. I am a Jose Pepper's fan but the Lee's Summit location is probably my least favorite. I recommend the Belton or Overland Park locales.

I love this restaurant. The spinach cheese dip is amazing, but my very favorite thing here is the jumbo stuffed jalapenos. They are to die for, and I can't find anything as good anywhere else. If I lived closer I would come here every day just for those. Service wasn't the best which is the only reason I'm leaving 4 stars instead of 5. EDIT: After several bad experiences in a row, I am changing this review to 2 stars. Their spinach cheese dip has been room temperature and thick the last three times we've came. We've had terrible service, especially when we've been ready to pay and our server NEVER COMES BACK. Our orders have been wrong. A family member of mine ordered something and very specifically asked for an allergen to be left off of it. Our waitress apparently didn't care because it came to us with the allergen. So we sent it back. So we didn't get to eat together, I was finished eating before his food came, and they did nothing at all to make it up to us. Nothing has gone right the last 3-4 times we've been here, so we will never come back. read more

Although I really enjoy Jose Peppers (in Overland Park and Shawnee), I won't be returning to this particular location. Here is why: As a single diner, I like to be cared for just as well as if there are three or more other guests with me. This was not the case. I received my first and only glass of water at the beginning of my dining experience, placed my order (which they were quick to bring) and was brought the bill minutes later. Never to see my waiter again. The peppers were under cooked (and I've had them several times and know what they should look and taste like), the water was never refilled and management had to pick up my tab for the waiter to ring up. Oh.. and did I mention I was seated at a corner 6+ person booth? Why there and not the other empty normal booths & tables? Maybe because it was in the back next to the noisy kitchen and wait station. As a single diner, I also tip VERY well because I know my tab will always be small. My waiter was lucky to get what he got. (No.. I wasn't cheap but I got the point across) And finally.. why you, Jose Peppers of Lee's Summit, deserve a single star... your establishment smelled like a dirty 12 year old mop. YUCK! read more

This was our first time at Jose Peppers, and we are glad we went. It was good, but not the best, Mexican we have ever had. The food still continues to be a favorite, but what happened to the margaritas?!? The anniversary margarita was always exceptional at Lee's Summit, but the last 8-10 months it has tasted like nothing but sweet mix. Best guacamole in town. I always choose the Tacos al Carbon. They are amazing! Each time we come the kids meals are a bit confusing. Sometimes the servers bring yogurt other times my child is offered ice cream. Once a server had no idea what. Was talking about when I mentioned the ice cream. The espinaca dip is cheap and good.
