My husband and I went for lunch today and really enjoyed our first experience. We ordered a sample of what we typically like to see how it compared to our other favorite Mexican restaurants. To start, the chips and salsa were really good! We also tried the queso blanco, which was also great. I had to try a margarita to see if we would want to come back an a weekend and we will be back. Not too sweet and a perfect amount of tequila. We ordered off the lunch menu. My husband got a ground beef chimichanga with queso blanco on top. It was delicious! Lots of cheese inside. I had a cheese enchilada and ground beef taco. I liked the enchilada sauce and the taco was so tasty. I won't order a taco when the shell looks store bought. This passed my taco test. Stopped in for dinner here on a Saturday night and we were pretty impressed! We were greeted and seated as soon as we walked in. The margs are delicious and the perfect size! The food was also really good. We did have a change in plans and had to take it to-go, but it was still good nonetheless. I got the carne asada quesadilla and it was great and a great portion size. My husband got the nachos and he reported that they were okay, pretty standard. The one thing that held this place back from 5 stars was the service. Our server was not the kindest (rolled her eyes when we asked for it to go, slammed the check down, etc. ). It was very off putting because everyone was so friendly when we walked in. We'll definitely go back and try it out again, hopefully next time the service will be a little bit better! read more

This place is great! Get a reservation if you're going on Friday or Saturday night. We got there at 5 pm and still had to wait 30 minutes for a table, even though there were several empty tables, because those folks had reservations. Our server, Brian, was excellent!! He kept all the drinks full managed multiple requests, always brought us more chips and took great care of us. We were are party of 6 and everyone enjoyed their food. My niece had the tamales and she loved them. My nephew had a special plate of spicy beef and peppers and he loved it. Both had enough leftover for lunch the next day. My wife had the grilled chicken enchiladas, which she loved! I had the soft tacos, 2 beef and one shredded pork. Excellent!! I'd get 2 pork next time. It was SO good!!! It's pretty loud in here, but the atmosphere is fun. The staff has a good time. We have been here a few times and always enjoy it. The cheese dip is excellent, but $10 is a little steep on the price. The drink prices are high too. Those are my only complaints. But rent and labor cost money. I get it. read more

Went in for some Friday evening dinner, and it was definitely an impromptu dinner because we didn't want to drive far for Mexican food and stay in downtown Lees summit area which is a cute hot spot for locals to take in some shops and local pubs. We sat at bar and the service was great right from the start. The bar tender let us try their house margaritas as samples and she was creating the most amazing cocktails at the same time. We got the chicken fajitas, I would recommend these and they're shareable. The shells were homemade. I got corn my husband got flour. I can't say enough about this place it was fantastic. If you're in the area go grab your self some food here, you won't be disappointed. read more

2nd time visiting and would highly recommend. First time I came, it was for lunch. Ordered the chimichanga burrito with chicken off the lunch menu and it was delicious! Atmosphere was nice and quiet. 2nd time came for dinner. The atmosphere was much busier and louder but it was the perfect amount of noise. Ordered the chicken enchiladas and the shredded beef flautas (taquitos). Both were divine. The flavors came out perfect. My mother is a very happy Latina woman now that she had delicious taquitos. If you want delicious, authentic Mexican food, come here. The service is excellent as well. We stopped in for an early dinner on Friday night. Restaurant located on a corner in downtown Lees Summit. Nice brick building from outside but inside seem to be a dive. Casual atmosphere. Their margaritas are great and it just happens to be $5.99 for happy hour. I only wish it was in a glass, not plastic 8oz cup. Food was okay. Portion was large. I have absolutely NO idea what the below 4 star reviews are about. I had a restaurant that was my favorite Mexican food for years, but moved away. I've been searching for that taste again and never found it until I went to El Plato Mexican Grill & Cantina. EVERYTHING was delicious! My original favorite restaurant has been owned by a Hispanic family since I was a kid and I'm 64 now. That was true Mexican food and so is El Plato. I had the Carne Asada Street Tacos, rice and guacamole. It's what I've been missing for so long! Don't listen to the nay sayers. Try it first yourself. You'll be glad you did. read more

This is not even remotely related to Mexican food. Fajitas have zero seasoning on them, fish tacos didn't even have black pepper or salt, not to mention anything else, not sauce either. Tamales didn't have corn husk and they told us they had removed them.... Ha? It is like having dolma with no grape leaves.... I mean it is ok for people who don't know better, but very boring and uninspired food. I guess when you live in Texas, you are very picky about your Mexican... I stop in here for lunch on Saturday. It is a small place but it was halfway full. I was greeted and seated immediately. The food prices are reasonable. I always judge a Mexican restaurant by their chips. This place had non greasy, very crispy chips. The salsa was ok but nothing amazing. I ordered the Combo B which includes chicken enchilada, pork tamale with rice and beans. I also added a hard shell beef taco. Everything was good though the taco was greasy. Thought we were early enough to beat the Saturday night crowds but we got the last table... Had to do with a high top. Hard for my wife to sit at and while normally fine for me ... We were there long enough my leg fell asleep . We had heard this was one on the must authentic Mexican places in town and not Tex-Mex (as if that's a bad thing)... Frankly the food here is not that different than other places. I've certainly had more "authentic"... My wife got a nacho plate and no objections .. just because the place was very busy we had a but of a wait. The wait staff certainly favored tables drinking the margaritas. I ordered a bottle of beer and was forgotten. I reminded our waiter twice... Finally was told they didn't have Pacifico in a bottle but I could get a Budweiser or something on draft. She seemed surprised I said forget it. Place was very busy and noisy. Glad we weren't standing waiting at the door where there is no room to wait... I wouldn't wait... I'd go down the street. Everyone was having a good time. A couple seats opened at the bar when a table came open... I got a combo plate. The chicken Flaunta was nice but the chicken was dry. My chicken tostada was really very good. My beef taco was also perfect. The beans were dark colored. My wife thought they came out of a can... I'm not sure. They were only partially blended so a mix of whole beans... And they were fine but seemed to need some flavor. I think they were not cooked with any fat. At least they were not overly salty. The rice was just rice. I saved the rest for tomorrow's lunch. So overall the food is good. Prices are reasonable. Typically you're gonna walk here because the street parking will be full. But not too bad of a walk. We had a good experience... I think we had just heard such praise we were expecting more. I love this building and the atmosphere. The previous Hispanic restaurant here was more authentic though. Maybe next time with lowered expectations and less crowd we can sit at a table and get more attentive service. Who knows... Another local gem in Lees Summit. Many friends have told us about El Plato and we finally made the time to go. The drinks are great, service was quick, the chips and salsa are so good. We ordered the grilled chicken plate (with cheese) and probably one of the best we have had in LS. I could eat that all day. I want to come back and try their guac. So many tables were ordering it. Started with a Modelo and delicious berry mixy! Chips and salsa delish (ask for the special hot sauce if you like spicy.) The street pastor tacos were good but a little on the salty side. The nachos supreme we asked for fajita style but carne asada was the closest next. Queso was the highlight of that dish. Service was very quick and friendly. Visited for the first time today and we'll definitely be back. Chips and salsa were tasty, the top shelf margarita was good though still seemed to have a lot of regular margarita mix in it. My wife had the dragon berry lemonade and said it was great. Entrees were the chicken flautas and beef fajita burrito. My wife thought the flautas were great and my burrito was really tasty - came covered in a red sauce and shredded cheese. Both were brought out quickly and plenty hot. The only complaints I have were that they didn't substitute black beans for refried as my wife requested and I had to ask twice for a side of hot salsa. They did bring a side of black beans when we reminded our server, and she brought two kinds of hot salsa, both of which were really hot. Overall, this was better than other recent Mexican restaurants we've been to and is going to earn a spot in our regular rotation. read more

What a tremendous disappointment... We first visited this restaurant about 3.5 months ago on a Saturday evening. It was busy but we were able to get seated very quickly, which made us happy. However, more than 15 minutes went by before we were even brought water. We tried to flag down a server, no avail. I finally went to the bar and spoke with the bartender. The food was good. I chalked up the poor service to it being a busy Saturday night. We decided to go again today for happy hour (with the thought of staying for dinner. It's a Monday so not that busy). WOW, what a massive disappointment, again! The service was horrible. Add to it, we ordered frozen margs only to find out they aren't on happy hour, despite the advertised "happy hour marg" deal. I KNEW what was going to happen. They offer a regular marg, glass OVERFLOWING with ice and a splash of marg. I asked for light ice and the server was like "okay" but when she returned, it was like she had no clue. I mentioned it and she seemed clueless. Needless to say, we did not order an appetizer or dinner as planned. I am literally so disappointed in this place. Once again, I had to flag down the server for our check. They really seem to have a total disregard for their customers. I am no longer planning to be a "customer ". I'll go somewhere where the customer is valued, not ignored. I'll end with this -it is truly unfortunate their service is so bad because the one time we ate there, the food (except the watery salsa) was pretty good. read more
