First time trying this Mexican place and we will give it another try, the reason for the 3 stars is due to the service being less then satisfactory. We sat at the bar and waited for a bit before someone asked us for a drinks. The salsa bar was cool and the chips and salsa was good. The food we picked was also good. Tho my husband does like onions there were onions in the chicken chimichanga. I had the al cart bean burrito with an enchilada both were tasty but super small. Next time we will try a new entry that my neighbor told us about the ribeye tacos with bone marrow. Ordered cheese dip to start with, plate and bowl were chipped that it was served in, extra plate for fajitas had 3 chips in the plate, blinds were broken. steak for fajitas was not great and had mostly onions and peppers. Disappointed! read more

Actually stumbled upon Don Chuy's thinking it was a different restaurant, but happy we did. The meal was delicious and the servings were plentiful. The only reason I went with 4/5 instead of 5/5 was because the hostess was less than welcoming. She stood what felt like half way across the room and instead of greeting us, she held up fingers asking the number of people in our party and then walked off and we didn't know she was showing us to our table. It was very odd. The only other thing was the drinks were so full that they were spilling out all over and instead of helping clean up the mess that was made by setting them down (not even in front of the people who ordered them), the waiter just left a stack of napkins. But I guess at least they didn't skimp on the drinks! read more

I think this leans more towards American Mexican rather than authentic, but still it was petty good. I thought Don Chuy's is def not the best, but it's pretty solid for Lee's Summit. The service was nice and communicative when it comes to getting drinks and more chips. They have nice decorations that give floral vibes with and diy get you own sauce stations ala carte. New Mexican restaurant alert! Service is a struggle point. Slow and delayed. We had to ask for water refills numerous times , more chips etc. However, the people are nice and they are trying. Training is needed though. The food was good, nothing to complain about. Generous servings and all meals came out hot. The gold was similar to El Maguey, La Fuente, and the other places around. Their drink and shot prices are up charged by a lot. A shot that is usually $12 at most Mexican restaurants they told us a shot would be $35 ... that's right people . That was beyond ridiculous for the price of the actual bottle. I would give them a little more time to get things in order before visiting again ! read more

Oh my goodness my favorite Mexican restaurant. Could eat there everyday but don't. Lol. Love anything that has their chicken in it. It's not spicy nor bland just fantastic. Crazy about the smashed avocado appetizer it's just smashed avocado but it's got to have something else it in because it's delicious. Prefer it to their guacamole. Great food and great service. I'm from southern Californian where choices for Mexican food are near endless. Since moving to the Midwest, I've experienced too many "Americanized" Mexican restaurants. This place felt like I was back home, I could order and converse with the staff in full Spanish, my order was not messed up or lost in translation, and the chips and salsa were great (keep them coming)! I'm only basing this off of what I personally have had from here which isn't much as I'm not a big fan of Mexican food overall. Have been here a few times and it's a great atmosphere, center bar with a few tv's, Mexican music playing overhead, and most servers are Mexican too and speak Spanish. Service the last time me and my grandparents went a couple weeks ago wasn't the greatest but I'm not holding that against them as they seem short staffed. Again I have not had much from here but from what I have had here, it's all been great, salsa is really good, they also have a salsa bar next to the bar on the right side that you can go to at any time and get your own salsa which they have many types. Cheese dip is great too, just a white cheese, but tastes amazing, had their bone in wings with buffalo sauce too and it has a kick but is really good. The first time I went I got a steak from here, don't get it, they aren't a steakhouse. Every time after though I've gotten their steak quesadillas which are amazing, always juicy steak in them and it's always hot and they have house made tortillas too. Rice and beans aren't anything special, not bad but kind of bland. I'm giving this 4 stars mainly for the pricing, it's nothing outrageous but you will pay quite a bit most likely, and bring cash too as they don't charge as much if you pay like that, since they don't get all those fees that comes with paying card. And on your receipt too when you pay, it shows the total you pay if you do cash and if you do card, it's always gonna be a couple dollars cheaper if you do cash, which can add up if you come here frequently. read more

You never quite know what you're going to get when you visit a brand new restaurant during their first two weeks of business. I was thoroughly impressed with Don Chuy's! This is a conversion from an old Applebee's similar floorplan but considerably lighter and open feel than the old Applebee's. A fairly extensive menu with a full bar and freshly squeezed lime margaritas. Tonight, I sat at the bar had to Dos Equis chips, cheese dip and an entrée. One differentiator is they offer a fresh salsa bar with a variety of sauces to choose from to spice up your chips and/or meal. Although I was dining solo I can attest, to the meals being delivered around me, that the food offering is massive incise and artfully prepared. To be honest, the size of my meal and the others around me would surely suggest that everything could be shared however the woman to my left with somehow able to consume her entire nacho platter! Keep in mind, that this is a brand new business and you may expect some hiccups but tonight they looked staffed and ready to please. Their chips and salsa are a corn based chip and the salsa that is offered is mild. The white cheese dip is a basic variety dip however the menu offers a multitude of variations. For dinner I had the AC Tex which is a classic dish with the various proteins presented on top of a bed of rice with cheese sauce poured over the top. Unlike some restaurants, this one offers a variety of options and tonight I chose the one that came with steak chicken shrimp and chorizo. It was really good! I have a feeling that this place is going to become a favored for mini in Lee Summit and worth a trip to give them a try. read more

Not to be confused with Chuys.....this is its own animal. I really wasn't expecting much from another Mexican place that probably has pretty much the same menu... using the same ingredients as all the rest of em. I was wrong. The fact that it was built in a former Applebee's didn't help get my optimism going either....and again I was wrong. The inside is phenomenal....especially when you compare it to their competitor next door (Carmen's, shots have been fired...step up your game). Theres some hand painted Dios de Muertos murals that are worth the trip by themselves. My enchiladas and burritos tasted like countless other Mexican places. The Mexican corn was perfect and the rice was the best I've had at any other restaurant locally. Don't let the remodeled Applebee's fool you. Ok I've been here enough times to say with certainty, that Everything here is AMAZING! From the chili rellenos, to the Charro Beans to the moist, flavorful (probably the BEST I've ever had) Chicken Flautas! And the service is up there with the best. I forgot to mention I was allergic to Dairy this round, and just asked for the queso dip and sour cream on the side. The brought it out with a chipotle sauce on top and the waitress immediately took it back when I told her I was allergic to Dairy after she found out the chipotle sauce has sour cream in it. I love a restaurant that goes above and beyond to accommodate their guests! Don Chuy's has become my new favorite Mexican restaurant in Lee's Summit. read more

How About a Salsa Bar! What is the best way to replace an Applebee's that committed suicide through impersonal service and overpriced deteriorating food quality - Bring in a Tex Mex Restaurant that is a bit more Mex than Tex, has great food, ample portions, and is working to provide all the things you might want. That is what Don Chuy's brought to MO 291, just north of Highway 50 in Lee's Summit! Being two blocks from Highway 50 puts it, and its private parking lot, in a very accessible position. While you can still see some "hints" of the former inhabitants in the layout, you cannot help but see their improvements! It just "feels" better. Once seated at their horseshoe bar or in one of their booths or tables the differences jump out at you! Our server appeared almost immediately with complementary chips and salsa. Should you care for something different, there is also a complementary "salsa bar" with more options than I could name! Their menu is extensive! Care for a steak rather than tacos, they have you covered! The only issue I had was one of my own shortcomings: my Spanish language capabilities consists of what I picked up in Panama and Honduras barrooms during the 1980's, so reading the menu put me at a loss. Altho he tried, our server appeared to have similar handicaps, but we soldiered on. (I hesitated to drop a star for that, but am willing to watch it continue to improve.) But that shortcoming lost its relevance as our food arrived. Everything, and I mean everything, tasted outstanding! Even mundane things like the refried beans and rice had exceptional flavor, and worth the trip on their own merits. Judging from the smiles all around the restaurant I am sure that most others would agree. The margaritas from their full bar only added to our satisfaction. Prices are more than reasonable, with ample portions, and the large selections available. Overall, I would say it is the perfect place for a Taco Tuesday, an enjoyable meal with friends, or for sure a happy hour! So if you are in the area, you might owe it to yourself to experience what can happen when Applebee's is replaced by a quality restaurant! read more

I actually really enjoyed the food here. It was super busy when we ate here and the service was still really awesome. The wait staff worked together to keep drinks filled up and things moving.
