Listen, I have worked in the food industry in the past for a few years and know good and bad service. And currently working at a healthy/food customer service based industry. We came here on 8/24 for dinner-it was my first time eating here. The food was great although the service is TERRIBLE. Once we were seated our server never came to take our drinks.. we sat there for at least 5-6 minutes just for the manager to finally acknowledge us. He took our drinks and orders which was great then our server thank god "finally" came to only drop off chips and salsa. Not even a hint of a smile. We never saw her again til our food came and asked if we needed anything else which by this time we were not happy with the service and needed nothing else. Throughout dinner, my fiance NEVER had a refill which he looked around constantly to see if our server was anywhere near and she was not. Talk about eating good food for half an hour with nothing to drink. The table next to us had a great server too bad ours wasn't like theirs. Overall, the food is great the service is bad. If you want customers to come back- have great customer service especially when they are new. read more

We stopped here for an early dinner one evening. We started with the espinaca dip. It was okay... not spectacular, not awesome, more meh than anything. It was kind of bland. It consisted of queso blanco, spinach, and some kind of flavoring I can't quite put my finger on. The chips and salsa were good, so I pretty much just snacked on those while waiting for our entrees. Our waitress was amazing! She made sure to keep not only us, but my girlfriend's 2-year-old entertained throughout our dining experience. She was bubbly and generally fun to talk to. She was also a great waitress and very attentive to our orders. For dinner, I had the vegetarian fajitas. There really isn't much for a vegetarian to eat here other than a bean burrito or fajitas. The fajitas were surprisingly bland. They definitely could have used a bit of spice, but there was more than enough food to make three meals out of them. Overall, I wasn't very impressed with the quality of Mexican food here, but the service was awesome, so I'm willing to give it another try sometime. They really need to work on their vegetarian options, though! read more

Wanted to have chips and salsa tonight so decided on Jose Peppers in Olathe. The happy hour menu is from 3 til 5 pm Sunday thru Friday. Ordered the queso and chips plus the soft taco and also the chicken quesadillas. Service was quick and friendly and being a Friday night it got busy real quick. Recommend if you are in the area!! My husband and I had dinner at this location last night, and was thoroughly impressed with the food. Their Espinaca is always wonderful and as usual I ordered the Monterey chicken burrito. Our food came out pretty quickly as well as our drinks, but the one thing that I was disappointed in was their lack of protective equipment for their employees. Many of the employees were wearing facemasks, but on several occasions I noticed them pulling them down to talk to people. We were sitting outdoors but it kind of defeats the whole purpose of wearing a mask when you just pull it down to speak to people. I even saw the manager do this once. Our servers were very attentive in our food came out hot and we were never without a drink but I was kind of disappointed in that. read more

This is your average American Mexican restaurant chain with great service, good chips and salsa, cold beers and queso dip that is worth spending the extra couple bucks more. I've been here several times and nothing really stands out on the menu but my wife does like they're creamy steak enchilada because of the yellow sauce they put on top. Downside to this restaurant is that if you get here during normal dining hours a parking spot can be very difficult to find. I hope that you don't encounter any issues but over the course of dining here many times we've run into a couple issues and the restaurant was great about taking care us when we had issues with the quality of food and also the wrong order on a takeout. read more

We love Jose Peppers. We wanted a break from cooking and help a local business out during this horrible time. We were told food would be ready in 45 minutes. Showed up at that time. Someone in parking lot gets your name. We sat for 45 minutes waiting, watching everyone else get their food. I finally called, no reason, no apology. Probably just our luck. The food had been carried in the sack incorrectly and everything all rolled on its side together. What concerned us was, even though they were wearing gloves, they would take sacks to a couple cars during one trip. They would also have several people sign on the same clipboard using the same pen. If you choose take out now, make sure to at least pay over the phone so you don't have to sign anything. We'll be back, but not until this pandemic is over. read more

I have been to this restaurant several times. Food was always good and fresh. However, the last visit, about 10 days ago, was awful. I ordered what I usually do, crab and shrimp enchiladas, which was always loaded shrimp. This visit there were 3 very small shrimp, drowned in cheese sauce and no crab in sight. I asked for the manager. I explained the issue and opened the enchilada so he could see. He acted vey cavalier, like he could care less. He said they make the mix up in the morning and you get what you get. What?! He did offer to not charge me. That's not what I wanted nor asked for. I wasn't looking for a free meal. He did remove the charge so I left the total amount to the server. Very poor management. I won't go back. read more

A couple of my co-workers today had Mexican leftovers for lunch and it got me to craving it. My husband and I were planning on going out before a concert so I said "How about Jose Peppers?" When we got there, the parking lot looked packed, but we were on a time crunch. I went in to see how long the wait was, and there was no wait at all. I have never had trouble with the service here. Our server was great. We had barely even dove into our bowl of chips and he already brought us another one and more salsa. The sangria swirl margarita was soooo yummy! It was just a tad bit too sour, but I still thought it was good. We never seem to have to wait long for our food. I ordered the enchilada trio, but I got two beef and one chicken instead of getting an all cheese enchilada. They are so filling, I could only eat half my meal. My husband loves the fish tacos. I love that Jose Peppers is so close to home. We sure do love Mexican food! read more

The food is great. We went twice in 2 weeks and the booths were DIRTY! They fixed it but in general, the hygiene for the restaurant is no good. They don't fix it before giving you the table. You have to "ask" them to clean it every single time! read more

GREAT TIP AT BOTTOM OF REVIEW to cut calories and save money! This is our favorite Mexican restaurant. We have two favorite meals here. The Monterey Chicken Burrito and the Cheese Crisp Salad. The Monterey is a burrito with grilled white meat chicken inside with rice and tomatoes inside. They dump the white cheese spinach espinacha all over the top and my wife is particular and started asking for the cheese sauce on the side so it doesn't make it soggy. I tried it and prefer the cheese sauce on the side now. It also helps save on the calories too. It comes with refried beans and rice, we always get black beans as we like black beans. The second favorite meal is the Cheese Crisp Salad: It is a soft tortilla bowl, they take it sprinkle chess on it, bake it (not fry it) and then add lettuce, black beans spanish rice and a ranch tomatilla dressing. Now the money saving tip and calorie saving tip: Jose Pepper's will let you split any meal in the kitchen for $1!!!! For the dollar you get the main entree halfed and your own serving of rice and beans. Plus the free chips and salsa. THis makes the meal the perfect size, especially for those that are counting calories. They will even split the salads in the kitchen, But if you split the salad ask for it to be put in the bigger bowl as sometimes they will split it and put it in a tiny bowl and it is a mess to toss it in a bowl way to small to contain it's contents. I like the lesser calories. Our whole office orders meals to go and splits in the kitchen and everybody is full. LOVE THE CHEESE CRISP SALAD, LOVE THE MONTEREY CHICKEN BURRITO. LOVE TO SPLIT IN THE KITCHEN, as it makes us not leave so full! This is our favorite Jose Peppers. The crew here is awesome. read more

Jose Pepper's is soooo mediocre. I know people around KC love it, but the few experiences I've had over the years have been "meh". Service has always been good, but the food is not that good. I hadn't been to one in a couple years, but my wife and I went for lunch. I got chicken fajitas with black beans and rice, and she got some baked chicken with a metric ton of cheese on top, also with black beans and rice. My fajitas were okay - they weren't sizzling, which was odd, but were fairly hot. The chicken wasn't great quality, and there were a ton of onions so they must have been cheaper than peppers, of which I was given only a few small slices of. My wife's chicken was somewhat dry and the cheese seemed to overpower everything. Black beans were not great, rice was dry as the Kalahari. As I mentioned, service was good as usual, with drinks constantly refilled. But I'm reminded how mediocre Americanized Mexican food is, and Jose Peppers is one of the more mediocre in the area. read more

"OK" food. "OK" margaritas. If you're looking for authentic Mexican food, look elsewhere. This is more of a "On the Border" type of restaurant. The inside looks like a sports bar with flat screen TVs everywhere, all muted, most without subtitles. It's very loud inside and they usually have top 40 type music playing over the ceiling speakers. The margaritas are pretty expensive, even though they try to sell the "2 for $7" deal pretty heavy. You basically get a 12 ounce beer mug completely full of ice that is then filled with a pre-mixed margarita from the tap. They taste surprisingly good, though, for a basic sour mix margarita. Not even close to the best I've ever had, but far from the worst. The food tastes pre-made...specifically the burritos. Most plates are just under the $10 range. Again, if you're looking for that chain restaurant type of Mexican food, this is your place. Nothing too authentic about any of their dishes...which doesn't mean they taste bad...just not authentic. My wife and I went here weekly, sometimes twice per week for months when we first moved here. Mainly because it was close to our home. Their chips and salsa are good and their "espinaca" dip is a must. To conclude...it's a good place if you want americanized Mexican style food. If you want some authentic food, go to "Chapala" just west of this place off Clairborne at I-35 and Santa Fe/135th. read more

Believe it or not, though I'm from here, last night was my first time ever having Jose Peppers. I loved what I ordered (the steak burrito bowl). There was really good customer service. My toddler loved her food (she danced with excitement during the entire meal), and I was happy to have more than just the usual kid's menu options. The restaurant isn't necessarily the cleanest place, but you can tell they try to maintain their facilities well. They even provided sanitary wipes to clean the baby changing pad). I definitely say it's worth a visit! read more

This review is only regarding the outdoor patio seating - avoid it - too may flies. Next time we go, we'll sit inside even it if it is a beautiful evening. The food and service were fine, they both get more stars. Lesson learned, next time we think about sitting outdoors we'll look first to see if others are swatting flies. read more

Unfortunately the manager's response was awful - "very embarrassing but out of our control & it happens, so are you still hungry or do you want me to take your food away". I've been eating at Jose' Peppers since back when there was only the location on 103 and Metcalf. They have THE best Mexican desserts around! The Sopapillas are SO good, as well as the Cookie Monster and Fried Ice Cream. The prices on their desserts are less than I've found at other area restaurants, plus they taste better! My family enjoys picking up several Espinaca dips (only $1 each) and dessert to go. It makes for a cheap, (yet tasty) date night! read more

I sure miss those coupons for free Espinaca Dip at Jose Pepper's. They have great chips and salsa, too. I actually waited tables at one of their locations a few years ago - and this is still one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in town. My favorite dishes: Monterey Chicken Burrito, Chipotle Mushroom Burrito, Pollo Magnifico and Carne Burrito. And just a brief summary of what's special about each... The Monterey is smothered with their famous Espinaca. Mmmm.... The Chipotle Mushroom has a wonderful smoked chile (chipotle) sauce on it. The Magnifico is deep fried with jalapeno cream cheese on the inside. And the Carne has beef and pork, and smothered with queso sauce. Is your mouth watering yet??? They also have margarita drink specials. I think it's 2 for $7, or something close to it. I'm personally not much of a drinker... Check it out! read more

Love Jose Peppers for one reason. The Margarita's. I am kinda strange when it comes to how I order my Margarita's I like them no salt, no ice, not frozen. Pretty much just tequila, lime and the margarita mix in my drink. When you order a Margarita like this most places just give you a shorter glass and charge you the same as a big mug. But Jose Peppers gives you the Big Mug and the full amount of this heavenly drink!!!! Love them!!!! The food is good but the drinks are super. I went there on Cinco de Mayo with a co-worker and we each ordered a Margarita with our late lunch, then another Margarita. When we got back to the office we realized about 10 mins later when I couldn't stop giggling, that I drank twice as much as he did. Ended up he had to drive me home and call my husband and explain why he dropped me off and that my car was at the office. This is the best place in town for Margarita's. read more

Not bad. It's all preference. If I had to eat at a Mexican restaurant similar to this, I prefer Mi Ranchito. But on a friend's request, we stopped here and I didn't want to slit my wrists. I went with my two kids, 20 and 17. It would've been a great experience, had our server paid any attention. Had to repeatedly ask for silverware, water and chips. Extremely rude hostess working 2/22/19 in the evening. Told us a 30-35 min wait. After waiting 40 minutes went up to kindly check on how much longer the wait would be...she got annoyed and was sifting through tickets and said there's 11 parties in front of us. I reminded her (again, very kindly) that she told us the wait was 30-35 min. She said "uh, I told you 35-40" as if that changed anything. I politely told her we would pass, and gave her the beeper back, and she rolled her eyes and didn't say anything. We have been HUGE Jose Pepper's fans for years and frequent the location in Shawnee. I had some business to conduct with an employee here, but they weren't at work when I arrived, so I opted to have lunch. $1.99 margaritas was a good deal. I got hornswaggled into some cheese dip that was $1.99, but the bartender neglected to tell me it was $1.99 only if you purchase an entree. Their menu boasts about the Poco Pollo Magnifico, so I ordered it. #1: the mesa here is very good. The rest of the meal was nothing special. The entree was really dry actually, but since the bartender gets taken away from the bar to put together all the to go orders, I never got checked on and didn't get to voice my opinion about the food, so I just ate it. The manager Joe was nice enough to put my laptop in the office safe. I was dropping it off for repair by the husband of one of the employees. The food and service were mediocre, but the experience and 4-star rating were all in light of the personal touch by the manager on duty, Joe. The $1.99 ritas would bring me in again, but I'd probably just stick to the chips and dip and treat this more like a happy hour place. The bartender (young lady with a widow's peak) was pretty funny. I have always had friendly, high quality service here, and have nothing negative to say about any of their food that I've tried! I just had the cheese crisp salad and loved it! First of all, it was huge (which made me happy, as I always love being able to take extras home), and the addition of the feta cheese made it a really nice change from the usual tex-mex salads. Their chips are really light and good to snack on (similar to Chili's) and the salsa has a fresh cilantro flavor. Really enjoyed coming here! read more

I must say honestly been going here a coupe years but I've noticed as a single person sitting at the bar there's certainly favoritism . I've always given good tips and been very nice but the female bartender w the long hair Russian I think she has a bad attitude. I hate to say it but I work hard and was going to treat myself to dinner and a jovial atmosphere. She will ruin it w bitterness don't waste your time. If you have a date particularly male your safe. If you have not had it, it will change your life! With so many locations around the Kansas City metro, it has truly become a staple!! read more
