Normally eat/order from the Jose Peppers at 143rd & Metcalf, but we were close by, so figured let's get it and get home. Ordered the food online @ 11:12, with pickup time of 11:35. Arrived before 11:30 and parked on the back row in spot 15. Watched the carry out people go to cars up front, talk to the people and deliver their food. At 11:35 I called to tell them we were there, and our spot #. At 11:46 the carry out person finally came over to get our name. They apologized, saying they were short handed. At 11:52, after watching another row of cars in the front spots get their food ahead of us, I told them to cancel our order as I was already going to be late to work. They said our food had been sitting there and that we were next. The carry out person went in, came out and went to another car to give them their order at 11:55. I started backing out, as I had to get to work. They then ran over to the car to give us our order. We had ordered chicken fajitas, espinaca and chips and salsa. The food was cold. The onions were barely cooked, they weren't crunchy, but they weren't what I would consider grilled. There was one bite of salsa that tasted like something was rotten in it. Overall a horrible experience. I have ordered from our normal Jose Peppers at least 4 times in the last three months, and have never had a bad experience. In my opinion, it is a problem with their management. If an area is falling behind because they are swamped or short staffed, management should shift people around, or jump in and pick up the slack. Getting food 20 minutes late, and cold is inexcusable as well as waiting on cars that are closer to the front door instead of in order of arrival. I will not be back. read more

Wow! This is our new favorite Mexican Restaurant. The salsa, the guacamole, the enchiladas, burritos, stuffed peppers, and everything else we've tried have been delicious! The service is great and the atmosphere is good. We keep going back and are never dissatisfied. read more

Was sat at dirty table, not a big deal. We asked the waitress if she could wipe down the table for us so she brought out our chips and salsa on a tray in her left hand, with a dripping wet rag in her right hand, while wearing rubber gloves. She wiped down the table (still while holding the tray of chips/salsa) and dried it with a napkin (which left napkin pieces all over the table). She then picked up our chips and salsa WHILE STILL WEARING THE RUBBER GLOVES and laid them on the table. She then took our drink order, which she never brought back while we choked down dry chips. Food was average, service was slow, the waitress was extremely rude to us after we had to track down someone else to bring us drinks. Won't make it back to this place anytime soon. read more

We usually love Jose Peppers, especially for close to home carry out. However, the last time I ordered online, PAID online and when my husband went to pick it up he added a side of guacamole. He was told that the original payment was canceled and given a new total for our original order plus the guacamole. I think the salsa has addictive properties. The whole menu is pretty solid; my favorite are the carnitas taco, spinach enchilada and the Baja burrito. (And the 2 for $8 margaritas!) The waitstaff is all very friendly. I've come here with a large group on a Friday night. We called ahead. While I appreciate good Mexican food, I must first tell you that I'm originally from Texas so mexican food is ranked high on my list for choices of food to eat. That being said, I was presently surprised by Jose Peppers. Their known for their inexpensive plates, their cheese dip (which is amazing!!!). I love that spinach and tomatoes are added to the dip. It's really outstanding. I wasn't a big fan of the cheese enchiladas, though. The tortillas were hard (burned) and the cheese was a big, thick glob once it cooled. It was hard to cut with a fork and knife. My second trip to this place was better. The Mahi Mahi tacos are amazing. You get HUGE pieces of fish in each taco. I could barely finish one at the restaurant. Overall, 3 stars- you should definitely try this place! :) read more

We live close by and used to love Jose Peppers when we lived here about 15 years ago but man, have they gone down hill. We gave this place several tries but each time we were left so disappointed. The service is usually poor, seriously, you can't leave a table at a Mexican restaurant without drink refills. This is consistently the case. We've had several young and rude servers. I don't know what it is about this location, or if its all Jose Peppers, but there servers look so dirty...hair in their eyes, more than once our servers fingers and hands have been in our food when they brought it to our table, dirty shirts and I can't say much more for the restaurant itself. There are constantly chips all over the floor and the tables never seem to be well cleaned. The food has been consistently very disappointing as well. We've experienced being given the wrong order more than once, our food being cold, ridiculously small portion sizes with barely a spoonful or rice or beans. I don't understand this as Mexican food is cheap, especially the rice and beans. Our plates have never been brought to our table full of food but instead with scant bald spots on the bare plate. We've had trouble very often with the food being so spicy that we couldn't eat it. I get it Mexican food is spicy but when you can't eat your meal, its bad. This is also happening consistently. I wish they would do better, I know they could if they tried. Not sure if its a management issue but you have to wonder when consistently the same problems repeat themselves. Sadly, we are without a favorite Mexican restaurant now in KC. We've been so disappointed so many times at Jose Peppers that finally we got smart and gave up. My advice, save your money. Nasty food and rude waiters food didn't taste right at all never again will I waste my money here

We always liked eating here until we got a violent waiter. All we did to set him off was to ask for another waiter. Of course he was snippy and argumentative before we asked. So he was already in a crappy mood. By the time it was over my 5 & 8 year old were crying, scared and wanted to leave. My husband was ready to leave. And I was in total shock. The manager of the location apologized and refunded the meals we never received or ate but all our drinks and everything we received (eaten or not) had to be paid for. It was really crazy. All of us see the effects of this CV-19 virus slowing down businesses. But the wife and I still wanted a good Mexican dinner. That means Jose Peppers. We did our online order and payment, and I headed over a few minutes before my scheduled pickup time. On arrival, people are checked in by the manager and one other individual. I was parked in front of the delivery door and watches 5 or 6 workers carrying food out to the assigned locations/cars. My order was delivered to my car within 2 or 3 minutes of my assigned time. Absolutely delicious Americanized Mexican food. I've been eating here for 10+ years and still love it. At this point, I've probably tried most everything on the menu. Some of the most popular are the pollo magnifico and Monterrey chicken burrito. A few of my personal favorites are the spinada enchiladas and chicken tortilla salad. I love that instead of rice and beans you can get a side salad. If you do - get it with the ancho honey dressing, it's yummy. This place is always crowded but they do a good job getting food out of the kitchen so tables turn fairly quickly. You can call ahead and get your name on the list if there's a wait, which is great. They've got a few large tables and booths so it works for bigger groups too. Don't miss out on the espinaca appetizer - always coupons floating around for it! read more

We ate there for the first time a couple of nights ago. I'm from Texas and have grown up with great Mexican food and haven't really found any place that has "wowed" me with their Fajitas and Guacamole. We are always a little leery of trying a new place, especially if it's a chain Mexican food place, so we were very impressed from the minute we walked in the door. Staff was very friendly, chips were light, fresh, crispy and tasty. Salsa tasted good, but I am personally not a fan of "chunky" salsa. The guacamole was very good! I ordered the Fajitas Del Trio - felt like I had died and gone to Heaven! The shrimp was to die for, the chicken and beef were tender, but not dry and had a great flavor. The beans were a little on the spicy side (left an after-burn in my throat), but tasty, as was the Cilantro rice. The Montequilla butter was fabulous! My Strawberry Margarita was ok - I didn't think it tasted like strawberry, but it wasn't a deal-breaker. My husband had the Cheese Enchilada plate - he said they were very good, but he did think the chili powder in the sauce was a little on the heavy side. He said he would still order it again, though. We were also impressed with the fact that our first waiter came over and introduced our second waiter and asked if that was ok, since it was a shift change. Most places don't do that, and we did appreciate that. Our first waiter even came over and checked on us. The staff was attentive but not intrusive. We got there after the dinner rush, so there weren't too many people there, which was nice (except for the booth of women behind us that were extremely loud and obnoxious). Have been a loyal Customer on average 2 times per week for the last 11 years. Have ordered House Margaritas for both myself and wife with "little ice" every time. Last night (6/23/15) I placed the same request. Bartender Amanda stated "she could not do light ice on $2.00 Margaritas night because we would get more than anyone else in their Glass. Really? We have been getting drinks and food here on special evenings and normal evenings. Being Chastised by that Employee while we sat at the Bar was not well accepted by us or the other couple setting next to us. Known Bill the Manager all through this time.Never ever, ever have we had a problem. This one Employee has change all of it for us. Will never darken their doorway again. We had to constantly ask for drink refills, chip refills, etc. Bartender wasn't even able to take our order, someone else had to he was so busy. Delicious Mexican Food. They have great favorite Mexican recipes. But they also have great healthy alternatives. You can substitute fruit, side salad, or cottage cheese instead of rice and beans at no extra charge! I love the Cheese Crisp Salad. Huge portions for a low price. The Espinaca Dip is really good. This has been our family's favorite place for over a decade. But lately it has slipped in service and quality. Most Recently we attempted to feed a large party, and called well in advance to see if calling ahead would be help. They were quick to say yes. However upon arrival, they did not have anything ready and had us keep waiting for people to leave. After 45 min of the seating associates ignoring us, we asked if they would offer incentives for parties already paid that were just sitting there (never mind I think people like that are rude). The lady in a tone of obvious annoyance that we would dare be troubling her, said that no they couldn't do that. So they were willing to make a party of 16 leave instead of maybe incentivizing a small table of 2 to leave? It was obvious the front staff were annoyed at us and took it out on us. Terrible Mexican food! I had the chicken diablo tacos (the special of the night) and every bite of chicken had a piece of gristle or fat in it (obviously they were not trimmed very well by the "chefs") The diablo sauce was more like a can of stewed tomatoes and they topped the tacos with about a cup of cheese on each taco (I like cheese but not that much) . The rice was dry and the beans were bland. The only reason I am giving them 2 stars is because our server was the best I have had in a while. read more

I do not have enough positive things to say about Jose Peppers. The salsa? Magical. The Espinaca con Queso? Magical? But the Tortilla Soup... my, Lanta! Nothing in life is more pristine and magical than the Tortilla Soup. It comes with a smidgen of cheese quesadilla, and, of course, I would recommend requesting a small cupful of Masa. DW and I had dinner here. It was very busy, but we got a table in a reasonable amount of time. DW is kind of picky about her food and I don't know why we bother coming to a Mexican restaurant when she doesn't like onions and peppers, but we did anyway. Long story short the service was awesome and our server & the manager did a great job in making sure we had great food. The food is Americanized Mexican food, but pretty standard of what you find in most Mexican Restaurants. The service here was the best I have seen in a long time and the prices are very reasonable. I haven't been here for a longgggg time. Overall our experience was great! I was greeted with a fabulous surprise... $2 house margaritas! You can't beat that! I was buzzing after my first one! We started with the complimentary chips and salsa and orders a half order of guacamole. Not my favorite guac but it satisfied my craving at the moment. The. I ordered the steak enchilada which was pretty delicious. My fiancé ordered the pork chimichanga which he enjoyed as well. Not the most authentic Mexican restaurant but we still enjoy the food.
