Jose Tejas is one of those places that proves a busy restaurant is usually busy for a reason. The portions are huge, the drinks are strong, and the prices are surprisingly reasonable for how much food you get. We sat at the bar, ordered way too much for two people, and enjoyed every bit of it. The empanadas, which are clearly a crowd favorite, absolutely delivered, and I loved that there were vegetarian options not just for those but across the menu more broadly. That made a big difference. Yes, it's crowded, and yes, you should think about reserving before you go, but the wait is worth it. The staff was also really helpful and kept things moving despite how packed the place was. If you're in Iselin, Jose Tejas is an easy recommendation.

Jose Tejas earns 4 stars overall. The service was friendly, attentive, and kept everything moving smoothly, which definitely made for an enjoyable visit. The food was a bit more of a mixed bag. I tried the quesadilla and the steak fajitas, and while they were decent, they just weren't to my liking (the fajita taste like it was soaked in Mesquite or some other liquid smoke)--I'd rate those dishes closer to 3 stars. Even so, the great service and lively atmosphere helped make up for it. I'd come back and give some other menu items a try.

This is my go to Mexican spot in nj, the food and service is good and the interior is really nice. I came here on a Friday night and only waited about 30 mins. Everytime I come here I always try something new. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Love how they give complimentary chips and salsa

I've been coming here for 26 years. This place is a must go to when in Jersey. The fajitas are bomb and the blackened dishes are so flavorful. Chips and salsa are addicting. Service was prime. Extremely busy 24/7.

Jose Tejas is a must try for tex mex. Been at this location for years and the food always remains the same quality. It's fresh, service is quick, and if you come on a weekend or Friday night there will be a wait. The dark lights inside make it cozy, it's not a huge location but in the summer they offer outdoor dining which accommodates more seating. Highly recommend if you're in the area, definitely check out their margaritas.

On a random Friday I was craving Tex Mex for lunch so I decided to check Jose Tejas for take out nd I wasn't disappointed. I ordered the Gauchos Chicken & the Blackened Salmon tacos, both were super delicious and packed with authentic flavors of Cajun Tex Mex cuisine your taste buds will definitely take a trip. I ate the food so fast I forgot to take pictures that's how good they were. But the highlight of my lunch were these Strawberry Margaritas I ordered as I waited and I was feeling nice after two drinks. The bartender was also great. S/o to him. So definitely come check them out!!

The food was pretty mid and honestly way too salty for our liking. It is fairly priced, so I guess you get what you pay for. The vibes and drinks were great, and the staff was pretty friendly.

Jose Tejas never disappoints! You can't go wrong with their margaritas! Always delicious and perfectly made. The complimentary chips and salsa are fresh and addictive, and the steak and chicken fajitas come out sizzling and full of flavor every time. Fun atmosphere, great food, and consistently good service. Always a solid choice!

Went here with my fiancée and we both got food poisoning (we both had chicken fajitas). Eat here at your own risk.

Food was ok, the beef taste like rubber. Didn't melt in your mouth like most TEXas restaurant fajitas.

Ask the Community - Jose Tejas

Do they take reservations on the weekends?

They do not take reservations on any day.

Do they accommodate party of 20? Do they require all the members of party to be available before assigning the table?

Yes. Plan ahead as it gets packed everyday for both lunch and dinner

I work in the area, can one person have a meal at the bar?

    Absolutely

Does anyone know if the Carne Asada is still on the menu?

    Yea, it is. Enjoy!

Is Jose Tejas back to its full menu for dine in or are they still doing a limited menu?

Limited menu with no chance of substitutions

Before I go...is Chicken Guadalajara with cornbread and Chimichurri steak available for dine in?

No! Those are my and entire family & friends favorite. Needless to say, none of us - about 10 people have been there since they took those 2 off the menu. So sad. We would go almost every week.

How many different items are they serving since opening back up from COVID? I heard it's very few....

    Full menu!

Is there outdoor dining with heaters in the cooler with her months?

    There is an outdoor tent

Are the seafood enchiladas back on the menu?

There's quite literally 12 things on the entire menu. It's awful. Seafood Enchiladas aren't one of them.

Does anyone happen to know if they've gone back to the full menu or is it still only like 9 entrees and 5 apps?

As of when I went a few weeks ago it was still a limited menu

    Do they cater?

Unfortunately, Jose Tejas only offers Dine-in and Curbside pickup.

How much time in advance should I call to reserve a table?

    They don't take reservations

Do they have indoor dining now in 2021?

    Yes they do.

Can you have a party of 6?

    Yes

    Do they have full menu?

They have a good assortment of thing to choose from but menu hasn't changed for as long as I can remember .

    Is the meat halal?

    I'd say no, it's more like a Tex-Mex restaurant .

    Do they accommodate vegans?

Probably not. They're menu hasn't changed in years.

I heard they don't accept Discover cards, is it true?

    Yup, don't take discover

What is the approximate wait time, specifically on a Friday evening?

Depends on how many in the party, what time you get there, and a bunch of other variables, but usually an hour at minimum. Great part is that you can just stand at the high top tables near the bar, enjoy a drink, and eat some chips and salsa which…

Deciding if going for a birthday..they don't serve desserts?

They do not serve desserts! But the apparently allow you to bring your own cake if you want

And I'll defer to the town elders about whether if I'm being unfair to a place that might be the heir to Maxwell's because of a "me" problem. I expected more of a "standing bar" venue. There's a main seating area that seems designated for full service food and drinks. The smaller seating area on the right felt like more of a VIP area. There were no signs, fences or bouncers stopping me from sitting in these places. The unambiguous standing area was quite small. I'm unclear on the ethics of whether it's required to buy drinks considering the delightfully low $10 cover charge. But I did enjoy a Down East cider and more shockingly, a loganberry hard cider from Canisteo, NY's own Cross Creek. Still, the DIY vibe is more refreshing than City Winery charging more than Live Nation to get through the door, tacking on $25 minimums and seating you with strangers. The men's room is currently out of service so I used the modular set-up outside (flush, not porta, but my rating on this sub-section of the trip varies depending on whether the light is working!) On the bright side, there's a great assortment of cover bands and originals on the calendar. I was here for Ashtray Floors, who had a stellar homage to The Replacements. I never thought I'd hear Left Of The Dial live again. And REM tribute band The Ones You Love also rocked the joint. Crossroads deserves credit just for hosting these shows but also for good sound quality whether it was the haunting echoes of the late Bob Stinson or the mandolin in Losin' My Religion. My family and I had had the fresh bluepoint oysters as an appetizer and they were phenomenal! I had the lobster bisque soup and Greek salad to start, and pictured below are all of our various main dishes. My Chilean sea bass was good, but the chickpea/ mushroom fushion was really odd and I could've done without that part of the dish since it came with sautéed spinach and potatoes. Overall, the service was excellent and I do really recommend this restaurant if you're in Westfield NJ and looking for a great seafood spot.

Excellent meal at this long-time Westfield spot…read more It's a storefront restaurant, with a dining room to the left, and one in the rear, with the kitchen central. BYOB so don't forget to bring your favorite wine. As the name would suggest, the menu is heavy on seafood, although there are a few options for the landlubber. We had the advantage of visiting with a couple who have been coming to Limani for years and are on a first-name basis with the team. Needless to say service is impressive. Warm bread is served immediately, with olive oil for dipping. Crusty, fresh bread and nicely seasoned oil - the perfect start. I opted for one of the specials, Bronzini. I chose the de-boned version. The fish was perfect. Crisp skin on the outside, tender and juicy flesh on the inside. A wonderful medley of spices enhanced the sweet, flaky white fish. It's served with roasted potatoes cut into chunky logs and wonderfully garlicky sautéed escarole. Mash up those potatoes to soak up the white wine sauce and juices from the escarole. Yaaaas! Others ordered crab cakes. 4 large cakes to the order, adorned with scrumptious remoulade sauce, with a mound of garlic mashed potatoes, and that sautéed escarole. No filler in these crab cakes, it's all crab - encrusted and fried to a brown crispy perfection on the outside with chunks of succulent crab on the inside. To celebrate a birthday at the table, the house comped us small slices of baklava. Delicious filo layered with chopped nuts and honey. Their prep here isn't too much honey, so the result is both sweet and tart. It's a disappointment that I don't like closer to Westfield - this is the kind of place to return to again and again, to experience everything on the menu. Go! You'll LOVE it.
