Came here for my friends birthday only to be yelled at and belittled by management over cornbread. God help you if you even say the words "to go" in this place. After accepting the no to go policy, we changed our minds and wanted to eat it in there instead because they have no desserts. What do I say that hasn't been said? There's an obscenely long wait, like I've heard 3 hours before, insane. Delicious margaritas, cheap, I mean dirt cheap to eat here. If I could actually get a table in a reasonable amount of time I would eat here a few times a week. Food is delicious but salty. No dessert, not take out, super huge soda and water cups so they don't have to refil. Food is out in 7 minutes. They want you in and out!! The owner really is brilliant. I have been going to Jose Tejas in Woodbridge, for close to twenty years, and enjoying it, but with my latest visit, I'm rethinking staying a customer. Yesterday, my wife, sister and brother in law, our friend Geri, and myself went to Jose Tejas, waited the normal hour and a half for a table, and tried to have dinner. (While waiting, we stood at the bar, and had drinks and chips.) When we were finally able to sit down ,order and eat our dinner, my wife and sister in law felt that they were kind of full from the previous drinks and chips, so when their order came, they couldn't eat it. The custom in many restaurants is to let the customer take home a "doggie bag" , so they can eat their meal at a later time. At this particular time, the manager, Elizabeth, told us that she could not let us take those meals home because it suggested that it would look like "take out". The manager, Elizabeth, would not let them start to eat their meal , even a small portion of it, and ordered that both plates be thrown in the garbage! The manager, Elizabeth, refused to let us bag our meal, that we were going to pay for, home with us. As long as we have been coming to this restaurant, we never had this issue with Jose Tejas, or any other restaurants that we have been to, and there are no signs posted to inform the public of this ridiculous rule, nor was it explained to us, or anyone else, that this was a Jose Tejas policy. The manager, Elizabeth, was very rude to us warning us not to tell her how to do her job, while we were trying to get answers as to why we would not be allowed to take home our uneaten meals. Instead of allowing to pay and take home our uneaten meals, they took the uneaten meals, reduced our check, and threw away both meals! My next question is to the owners of this establishment, and I would assume, this assinine and ridiculous rule...who wins and who loses? The answer is simple. Jose Tejas is the loser here because:(1) you just wasted food , (2) you just lost the profit you would have realized from that meal, and (3) you just lost many loyal customers. There are plenty of great Mexican restaurants around, and I assure you, I will be frequenting them. Goodbye and good riddance Jose Tejas! read more

Came here with my family just asked a simple question about if we were able to order food to go as well and was told no. Continued to order our regular food that we were eating when the manager Yadira Lara came and physically took the food off of the table and returned it to the kitchen when we asked why she said because she ASSUMED that food was to go. It was on our table and we were eating it. How dare she???!!! We were 6 people ordered 6 entries and 2 appetizers, how was that food intentionally ordered to go??? I recommend coming here soon after opening since wait times can get really long during dinner (I've waited over an hour at times). Huge potion sizes and pretty cheap for the amount of food. Chicken fajitas and pastelitos are my favorite items. read more

This is our favorite Mexican restaurant but there is always a line no matter what time you go. They have amazing fresh food which is delicious. My favorite are the Chicken Fajitas and Quesidillas. They give fresh homemade chips and salsa which is always a plus. They offer a variety of Mexican drinks and there lemonade is delicious. I also love their shoe string fries that come with the entrees and their staff is always on point with amazing service. If the lines weren't so long up to 2-3hrs on the weekends we would come more often. Please open another location soon! read more

Decent Mexican food for New Jersey. Non-Jersey residents may not be that impressed. Always packed, with waiting lines, people waiting outside for up to 1 hour for a table. Lots of New Yorkers on their way to and from shopping along Route 1. Service was polite but food too salty. Too crowded but good location. They don't rush you out the door but looking at all the people waiting for a table makes you feel sorry for them and want to finish up quickly and leave. read more

Very good food the waiters are busy but they do not forget you... the food come HOT ... nothing is like warm and I love that in a restaurant. it's always extremely crowded that is the only reason why I gave a four! Jose Tejas is amazing! This is one of the only real Tex Mex places around where I live and I love it! Every time I have gone, they not only have excellent food but excellent service. Their fajitas are amazing!!! I get them every time I go! Only bad things- no reservations so I often find myself having to get there extremely early to get a table. If you go with a bunch of people you might want to send a couple people there at least an hour early in their busy hours to make sure you're not waiting all night. Amazing food for cheap. What else can I say? It's prepared and tastes like it would cost $25+ per entree. But when I come with friends, I spend $15, tip not included. The staff is very friendly, and they bring you free refills for your drinks at random, which is very nice. Food doesn't take too long to come out, and tastes delicious. The chips with salsa served when you first sit down are simply amazing. Only drawback is that it's always busy. But I can't take away any stars for that, they can't help it. read more

This place is horrible my son who is autistic went with his class to eat here and they refuses to seat them said we don't have any room meanwhile they sat a party of 12. They did not want to deal with disabled teens and adults. This is disgusting and I would not recommend anyone to go there. This place is amazing . Their margaritas are perfect. They come out with warm chips and dip. I ordered empanadas and chimmichiri steak and was in heaven. This place is so busy that you might have to wait for a little to get in but it goes fast. This is not a place to go on a date because it seems they want you in and out as fast as possible.
