I visited Joseph Battisti salon in the upper east side recently and had a beautiful blowout done by stylist Megan Richardson. My hair looked fabulous! My only wish is that I had somewhere fancy to go that night :-) The salon, although smaller than others I have visited, feels just big enough and really delivers on making you feel special and appreciated. It is beautifully decorated and smells so good inside. My blowout began with a nice shampoo and head massage. Megan really took her time on my blowout and she gave as much love to the last strand she dried as she did to the first. My hair had volume and beautiful curls at the ends. I felt fabulous. Bout a Gilt Deal...I liked the woman who cut my hair (forgot her name). I am in need of a new person because my stylist moved (so sad). Anyway...this stylist was great she was able to talk me through my indecisive hair woes and really worked with me to explain why I shouldn't get the haircut that I think I want. At the time I was just over the conversation but I tell you, now I am so happy she was adamant. My hair feels thicker, it looks better than it did before...all from changing how I was cutting my hair! I take away one star because she talked a LOT!! I kind of wanted to chat a little then just enjoy my hair cut. Then...I wasn't offered a glass of water, wine, tea..etc until I saw someone else get it, I had to ask for it! And the blow dry was not the best...in fact I hated it. (YIKES, I feel bad saying that). Everyone wants to blow my hair out with a small roll brush and make these Shirley Temple curls. I am like 90 .... no one wants that!! EVER!! I go in asking to come out looking like J.Lo and instead I look like a frizzy 9 year old girl. Among a city of a million places to get your hair done, this place is a gem! I came here for a consultation for the Magic Sleek treatment was expecting to speak with a stylist for ~15-20 minutes. About an hour later I walked out with both Magic Sleek and Keratin treatments on two small sections of my hair to test each of them. This was done directly by Joey himself. He was phenomenal - honest, patient and super thoughtful in answering all of my questions. Ultimately he wanted me to understand that everyone's hair reacts differently with each of the treatments and therefore see for myself which was right for me - if either of them. I've never had a cut like this before. The owner might be good, but if so, he shouldn't let the stylist I had near his reputation. I don't think she's been to classes for hair at all. In advance, we talked through what I wanted, which was a trim of the cut I had to remove dead ends. That seemed mostly okay, but after washing, she only combed part of my head and sort-of half-did a part that wasn't straight. Didn't ask about where I parted it and gave me a little attitude when I asked if she could make it straight. Then she proceeded to snip from left to right all the way around and not once did she move my hair around to check if it was straight! (Spoiler alert, it's definitely not) No combing it to the back to make sure it's even across the back, nor forward to check the front. The part stayed undisturbed the entire time. I mean, lord, I've watched a Tabitha show once or twice so even I know you're supposed to cross check it. What really makes me give 1 start is that when I asked that she even it out, she was insistent I was wrong, and wouldn't even try to do anything about it. After asking a half dozen times I gave up and left. Oh, and also the "blowout" I received... everyone knows to point the hairdryer down the shaft or you get flyaways... everyone but her. And she used zero product. Not even hairspray or volumizer or gel or anything. Honestly, this was such a ripoff. I had friends in college who made a better show of it. I would never, ever suggest this salon to anyone. Very disappointing. read more

I bought a girl deal for highlight and blow dry and had an iffy first experience with one of the Stylists (not Joey) BUT BUT BUT Joey had me come back less than 24 hours to fix what I wasn't happy with and I left feeling SO much better and with my hair looking great. He, the woman at the front desk and June were all wonderful. So friendly and really kind. Joey did a wonderful job listening to what I like and wanted about my hair and made my hair look great. I absolutely recommend this salon, even after a not perfect (but not horrible) first time. Joey quickly worked his magic and made me feel and look good.
