This was an absolutely traumatizing experience. I went to the Murray Hill location to get my roots done and tone my hair, which was a mix of strawberry blonde and old highlights. I showed the stylist a reference photo and explained that I wanted a copper tone, not too dark, just something to even everything out. When she finished, my hair was nearly black. I was shocked. I immediately said this wasn't what I asked for, and instead of acknowledging the mistake or offering a helpful solution, the stylist insisted that I had asked her to match my roots. I hadn't. She got defensive, combative, and started yelling at me. The receptionist stepped in and was more empathetic. She agreed something had gone wrong and offered to send me to their uptown location to fix it. I asked very clearly if I would be charged, and she said no. I even asked again before leaving, and she repeated that I wouldn't be charged by either location. I paid out of pocket to Uber uptown. The stylist there, Gary, did fix the color, but made sure I knew how busy he was and treated me like I was lucky he was making time. He gave me a condescending lecture about showing reference photos, and when I told him I had, and that I had been very clear, he brushed it off. I've been getting my hair done for years. I understand the process. I know how to communicate what I want, and I always come prepared with photos. That wasn't the issue. At one point, when another client joked that her scalp was burning, I tried to lighten the mood by laughing. He turned to me and said, "You're laughing now, you're going to have it a lot worse." He was right. My scalp started burning so badly I cried. It was a long and emotionally draining process. The color looked better by the end, but I now have a scab on my scalp, most likely from the chemical treatment. And then, despite being told repeatedly that I wouldn't be charged, Gary tried to make me pay more than the original salon visit would have cost. When I told him that the receptionist at the first location had specifically told me it would be free of charge, he said, "She made a huge mistake if she told you that." He then went on to argue with me, saying even his family pays, and made me feel like I was being difficult for not wanting to pay after everything I had been put through. After going back and forth, he agreed to charge me $150, which I paid, even though it felt completely unfair. I called the receptionist at the first salon afterward to tell her I had been charged. She denied ever saying I wouldn't be, which felt like the final blow. After all of that, I felt completely gaslit and taken advantage of. I left with a damaged scalp, out time and money, and genuinely shaken. I've never written a review like this before, but I think people deserve to know what kind of experience I had. Just tried this salon for the first time to get a keratin (Magic Sleek). Have loved the results. Price is reasonable and they seem to really care about the outcome. Tyger is the best!!!!! I think the pictures speak for themselves but I have to give him a shoutout! I was a hair color newbie but I saw what a great job he did with my sister's hair so I knew I was in good hands. He made me feel totally comfortable and at ease and I couldn't be happier with the results. I've gotten so many compliments. Tyger is a genius with color and he is so detail oriented. Sometimes it seems like he is paying attention to every hair on my head, lol. I trust him implicitly and I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for quality hair color. I am not one to write reviews EVER and I even had to reactivate my Yelp account to write this one because I'm so upset. I had a friend recommend this place to me for a simple layer cut and face frame. I asked for just that, face frame below my chin and long layers around my head. Once the man was done chopping away, he proceeded to half blow dry my hair with just his hands and two blow dryers (no brush), leaving it damp and frizzy. Not even close to a blow out. FFWD, when I got home to finish drying it myself, I come to find that my hair was completely chopped into short "curtain bangs" (I used quotes because they do not flow and are totally uneven). I have never gotten such a bad and disappointing haircut in my life. Usually I'm the type of person to say "It's hair it'll grow back" but it's so uneven to the point that when it does eventually grow back, I'll have to find another stylist to cut it again as it's inevitably going to grow back uneven. I've never been so upset / disappointed with my appearance after a haircut in my life. I'm in my best friends wedding next month and I can't even imagine what we're going to have to do to make sure it doesn't look completely trashed in pictures. I refuse to show up to even try to get it fixed (as the only fix would be to cut it even shorter than it already is) and I'm afraid of what I would possibly say to the hair dresser if I did go in. I even had another friend send pics of my hair to her stylist to see if she could fix it and she said that it was so bad, the only thing I could do is let it grow out and deal with it when it does. This place is completely unprofessional, does not listen to what you want, and I will NEVER go here again. I'm telling many people about this experience, including my friend who referred me (she get's highlights and cuts twice yearly, and will no longer be going back either). DO NOT COME HERE if you want even decent looking hair walking out. read more

I've had probably almost 10 Brazilian blowouts by now over the years and Studio 34 is my favorite place I've had it done - twice now! I don't even live in NYC, but I'll now wait until I can get to NYC for my next treatment. The salon is cute & trendy. Everyone is very nice, always offers water, tea, coffee. Tim did my hair this past weekend and he was great! Definitely knew what he was doing, was fast and efficient but not in a way that made me feel like he was rushing. Studio 34 also charges a much more reasonable price for their Brazilian. In less than 2 hours and less than $200, it's the best BB I've had. I went in a for a trim and did not realize that the stylist who agreed to cut my hair was already in the middle of coloring someone else's hair and planned to squeeze me in while their color set. The stylist rushed through a 5 minute trim and completely missed trimming the top and front, so after wasting $50 on half a haircut I went home and finished trimming my own hair. I went because of all the good reviews, so I thought my long hair was in capable hands. I requested long layers and showed multiple photos to convey exactly what I wanted, checked with the stylist to make sure he felt it could work on my hair texture, and he assured me he knew what to do considering the type of layers I wanted. I ended up with this absolute botched mess of chunky, uneven, jagged layers despite showing him exactly how I part my hair. It's messed up no matter how I style it (curled, straight, blown out). I'm so upset. This is not at all what I had asked for and it wasn't cheap. It's so bad I don't even know how to disguise it. The whole staff is so friendly, tiger the manager is so knowledgeable and friendly he is so amazing with Brazilian Blowout treatments. He is fast delicate and gentle with the hair. My stylist Velibor is absolutely my favorite. He is an expert In Balayage, and color. He took me from a very dark brunette to a subtle ash blonde. Without the use of bleach! I frequently visit the salon just for blowouts, they offer olaplex treatments which greatly improved the feel and integrity of my hair. They are available some days with short notice appointments, I would trust any of the stylist there to work on my hair. They all share a common love and passion for the business. They have such a great energy and happiness about them, Unlike other salons I don't find myself getting bored waiting for my color to process. I am getting millions of compliments. I can say that it's my best haircut ever. I returned a week later for balayage. The gorgeous receptionist took my coat upon entering, and offered coffee/water. Great and friendly welcome. I had no wait whatsoever to see Tyger, another plus. He was very diligent in establishing how much hair to cut, and I feel like he really listened to my needs during the consultation. I have never colored my hair before, and I was very nervous about it looking unnatural. I wanted the most subtle change and I expressed that to Tyger who did my hair. I got a full head of balayage - and he is a master!! My hair came out AMAZING super subtle and natural and sunkissed just as I asked for. I have gotten so many compliments on my hair. My friend did her hair at the same time as me and she got balayage as well but she wanted something natural but slightly more blonde and noticeable and she got EXACTLY what she wanted as well. Needless to say, Tyger is able to accommodate to anyone's needs and requests and really everyone at the salon made me feel comfortable despite how nervous I was to change my hair. Not impressed. I did a root touch up and the girl who washed my hair barely did the bare minimum to take the color out - basically just applying shampoo and immediately rinsing it out. No effort to properly clean the scalp from color whatsoever, even after I complained that my hair was itching from the color. Conditioner was applied and also immediately rinsed out. So, even after the " shampoo " and now that my hair is dry, my scalp still itches: pretty sure she didn't properly remove all the color. Disappointing, as after many hairdresser visits I am sure that the shampoo is an important step to remove an irritant (hair color) from your scalp... read more

I went to Studio 34 very friendly staff but they didnt offer anything while I was in the waiting area. Jennifer did a good job however I felt Im used to people spending more time on my hair I was finished in less than an hour including washing of my hair. it just felt a little rushed and in my opinion it wasnt quite worth what they charged me. I may use them as a backup but I'm still searching for a hairdresser that will give me the results I'm looking for. read more
